We ordered the sweet and sour pork with fried rice, Singapore style sweet chilli chicken with rice and Shanghai style dark vinegar pork trotter with egg noodles from Vegie Mum and overall they were good.
In particular the flavours were nice and the sweet chilli chicken had a kick I wasn't expecting. However, the "meat" didn't actually taste like meat, in my opinion. The chicken was a bit too spongy compared to what I'm normally used to, although I didn't mind because it made the meat fairly easy to chew. The pig trotters also didn't look much like meat, although the person that ate them said the "meat" was still tasty.
It was quite filling despite being in standard size containers and looking almost small, and the level of fullness came almost all at once instead of a build up.
Tasty food served with fried rice (with or without egg). Recommend.

Came here with my hubby on my birthday, I have to say it’s over my expectation. I didn’t know that veggies could be so great. The signature tofu is a must try. Peking duck is yummy. We will try more dishes next time.
We got takeaway from here and were very excited to find another all-vegetarian menu. I had the peppered beef which was delicious with just the right amount of spice. The fake beef is seitan-based so it has a lovely flavour and texture. My partner had the honey prawns which were large and very realistic in taste and texture.
Booking on Zomato is not recognized by the restaurant...even I have got the confirmation email...when I went to the resturant...the waiter doesn't have my booking on his list.
Food wise is good considering it's vegetarian...especially recommend the Taro ring with sweet sour "pork"...best dish of the night.
Price wise...we paid average 22 per head...very good value
Great service and great food. Every time I've been here the quality has been consistent and exceptional. The food is bursting with flavour too. Although the mock meat doesn't always taste like what it is trying to imitate, the mock meat still tastes really good nonetheless. Definitely recommend eating here, especially trying the Nonya Fish.
Amazingly surprising to believe the food is vegetarian. Had the sambal beans, olive minced meat tofu, fried fish with coconut sauce, yam ring and oysters. All are fantastic and the taste are well-balanced.

Having not been back here for many years, we felt it was time to return for a vegetarian meal. It certainly was a novelty seeing all the mock dishes beautifully presented.
We opted for the banquet which was reasonably priced. We added a nyonya fish to the mix with no regrets. Everything was interesting and tasted lovely. We were amazed by some of the textures achieved by using various ingredients . Sushi skin to mimic fish skin and gelatinous pieces were like pork belly. Their home made tofu was silky smooth and yummy.
Service was warm and friendly. The meal here almost made me consider being a vegetarian permanently....almost!
The food was amazing! Really delicious and I say that as someone who has lived in China and Malaysia, I was really happy with everything I tasted. The service was great, the manager is super friendly and they were happy to make all dishes vegan. Was a really happy experience, this is definitely my new favourite restaurant!

Delicious food, good serving sizes, fast service, nice people. Only complaint is the vegetables, tofu and fungus dish had like 1 mushroom and 2 pieces of tofu in it. Could do with a bit more. Also the Chinese mushroom and pak choy dish is a little expensive. Fried rice not a bad price and so yummy. I'll definitely come back I'd love to try more dishes especially the veggie meats.

I have been CRAVING laksa ever since I went vegan three years ago, while it’s easy enough to make my own at home it was so nice to be able to go out with friends to an entirely vegetarian based restaurant and have a vegan laksa. My partner enjoyed the lemon chicken which is another staple favourite of mine whenever we used to get Chinese take away, it was crumbed perfectly and the texture was insanely close to the real thing! I’m excited to come back here and try more delicious items off the menu. Staff were absolutely lovely and very friendly, I thanked the girl at the front endlessly for the delicious food and we had a little chat about how nice it is to be able to come out and eat super affordable and vegan which can be hard to do. Highly recommend 🙌🍜
A vegetarian friend brought us to this place, and we fell in love with the tofu. If you haven’t tried Vegie Mum’s homemade tofu, you should totally go for it. Also ordered the sweet and sour mock fish, and it was delish. Staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. 5 stars to Vegie Mum!

I came to Vegie Mum with one of my close friends at a lunch time late last year. The dining area is very modest, and appeared to be a cash only premises. A bit of bright decor here and there lit up an otherwise bare room. For somewhere that seemed so plain, it was extremely busy, with one party of around 10-15, and many tables full. We were lucky to get seated close to the register.
The food is all vegetarian and vegan faux-meat. I am not sure why anyone would come here expecting anything different with a name like 'Vegie Mum'.
The dishes I sampled were the honey "chicken" and the stir fried chinese broccoli, both of which I felt were excellent. My friend, however, tried the "duck" and did not at all enjoy the flavor. However, as someone who has tried a lot of meat alternatives, I found the duck to be just fine. Perhaps it is because my friend has been vegetarian so long, that the "gamey" flavor was unappealing to her, so I am giving the restaurant the benefit of the doubt.
The portions are large and the prices very fair. The service is extremely quiet, and you are likely to need to ring up the manager for the bill if it is busy.
Definitely worth a try, though.

This was a wonderful dish. The fish actually tasted like real fish. Very yum and the sauce was perfect.
2- Pumpkin Cauliflower Claypot -
This was one more rich as the sauce probably had some coconut milk in it to give it that creaminess. Would have liked some other assorted veggies as the entire bowl was cauliflower (a very very generous amount though). The seafood was yum!

Absolutely love going to this Asian vegetarian restaurant. The servings are generous so great to share with family & friends. The staff are friendly & usually I ask them to recommend what dishes to get. I really love the Assam soy fish, bean curd hot pot, stir fried Hakka pork belly with fresh green beans, fried rice.. ok, basically everything on the menu is great.

Came here for my friend’s birthday dinner tonight. When we told the manager it was our friend’s birthday they made us a complimentary dish! That was such a lovely gesture. Service & food was fantastic as usual. Also found out that Vegie Mum 2 will open in Fitzroy soon next to Veggi Bar! Wow I can’t wait because it will be closer to home.

Not only is the service here great (i really love the head waiter... probably one of the funniest i've ever met), but the food is delicious. I always come here for their fish and olive tofu and it never fails me! Portions are quite big (expect to have some left overs the day after)
Was recommended by my brother to try this place out. We ended up going with 3 people and couldn't finish even 3 dishes (the waiter did say it was quite large portions).
Great flavours, the highly recommended tofu was superb, you could down a bucket of rice with just that one dish. We ordered the Fish, Special Tofu and a beef dish all of the items were off a different menu and was recommended to try as it was our first time there. Honestly the food was great and portions were great. Its good to find a family friendly yet good vegan restaurant. We ended up eating the leftovers for lunch the next morning. So two meals for the price of one, I'd take that any day.

Service was superb! Unfortunately the price just does not match what you get on the plate - which comprised of bland flavors and small serves.
This is one of the restaurants I used to visit frequently. The food is tasty, the owner remembers you and your favourite foods as well. The only glitch is that unless asked the mock meat pieces are very less and vegetables are more. I love the mock Chicken drumstick a lot, but it is not available at all times. I am reducing my visits to this place in recent times coz of this one reason. The price is bit on the higher side for the portions.

My sister and I love this place. We come here every time we are in the area. The staff even know our favourite order now. Staff are always friendly and inviting and quick to suggest something from the menu if we can't decide what to get. The green beans with abalone mushrooms is hand-down our favourite dish that we get every time we go there. The food is great, the decor is a little dated and it is loud and busy in peak times, so book ahead. Definitely recommend this place, even to meat-eaters.

We love our meat so I never would've thought we would love a vegetarian place - but the food here is just so good! It has a strong Malaysian influence and the laksa, char kway teow and mee goreng are some of our favorites - and exactly like you'd get with the best of Malaysian hawker fare in Melbourne - except they're vegetarian. What wins hands down is the whole fish though - it looks and (almost) tastes like the real thing. Hats off to the chef for his creativity and ability to make such delicious vegetarian food! It can get crowded, and we've been turned away for dinner before so I'd suggest making a reservation if you're planning to have dinner here.
What an experience! Roast duck, chicken satay skewers but not meat? Was so surprised at how good meat substitutes could taste. Definitely give this place a go if you're looking for a vegetarian restaurant as you won't be disappointed! And the wait staff so friendly and attentive and helped with choosing our dishes as we are quite inexperienced in the veg world!
I love this place. Used to come here often when I lived close by. My favourite dish is the Thai warm salad and their Duran ice cream. Will go back.
The restaurant was empty when we arrived which made us a little worried but it soon filled up. We have faux lemon chicken and a lamb dish. Both were very tasty. Generous servings. We'll definitely be back.
This was my first time to have vegetarian food in Australia as I was not really like vegetarian food. However, it surprised me at all. The taste of the food was really good and the texture of were perfect. I recommend the prawn and tofu duck which is shown below. Spent around $100 for 4 people.
It is worthwhile to visit Veggie Mum again since the unforgettable experience! Reasonable price with a big portion and attractive display like the sweet and sour fish! there is a set which is $88 for 4 ppl, soup, rice, fruit platter are included. But it is better that to eat with a bowl of rice coz the dishes are bit salty. For the curry chicken, it is not a creamy texture at all however for the coconut butter prawns is pretty good! Excellent service is also provided!
One of the best Vegetarian Asian food in the East. Have to try their signature hotpot Tofu, tender and tasteful! Most of their dishes are strong in flavour and their mock meat are done very well, especially the fish and pork. Always had great service from Steven, keep up the good stuff!

Came here on a Saturday night. The food was good and the portions are quite generous. They offer complimentary fruits and jelly as desserts. The service was alright except that the staff seemed to be very impatient. They stood next to us while we finished the last bit so they could collect the plate.
Love their food here! Really strong flavours and addictive 'tofu' dish, we always needed to call in and reserve for dinner on a regular weekdays so make sure you give them a buzz! Very authentic malaysian food

Since vegetarian cuisine is all the rave atm the whole family revisited Vegie Mum after a long time absence.
To my surprise when I made the booking the restaurant manager still remembered my name and my preferred table right at the front of the restaurant.
The decor hadn't changed, the restaurant manager hadn't changed and the boss and the cooks also hadn't changed and that can only be a good thing cause the food hadn't changed either.
The vegetarian dishes are as I remembered them: Yummy, delicate, big portioned and very wallet friendly.
We had the Sweet & Sour Fish, Vegie Fried Noodles, Pork Belly with Green Beans, Tofu & Olive Leafs Hotpot and my favorite Vegies in Buddha's Bowl.
If you were blindfolded your tongue will tell you that you are eating a real fish with the taste/smell of the ocean from the seaweed wrapped bean curd.
The jelly like fat in the pork belly (Made from agar agar) is so real that it should get the heart tick of approval.
And finally the crispy taro from the Buddha's bowl beats any chips/crisps any day.
And with a free plate of fruit and agar desserts thrown in it all adds up to a very satisfying meal.
And for around $20 per adult you won't need to rob the next door restaurant either.
To make sure you get yourself a table booking is essential and you had been warned.
When the manager of the restaurant still remembers your name and face after a 3 years absence you know you are onto a good thing and Vegie Mum certainly delivered on all levels.
Where carnivores can feel comfortable. This place boasts a huge variety of mock meats which will leave you questioning your taste buds power of distinction. The sweet and sour 'pork' was crispy with a well balanced sauce which won't blow out your blood sugar levels:) the satay 'chicken' skewers were equally as crispy with a lovely well balanced sauce. The 'seafood' soup was not my favourite as the stock lacked any real flavour punch. The veggie stir fry was clean and crunchy. Dont expect atmosphere at this place, it oozes the standard Chinese takeout vibe, surprisingly busy so make sure you pre-book, seriously a must!! Staff friendly and entertaining. Mmmmmm will visit again.

I could never finish any rice or noodle dish for less than $10 each and there's plenty of leftovers for take away.
Highlight of the dinner menu is the sweet and sour (3 other sauce to choose from) fish which is made of fried beancurd, a form of tofu.
The other "must try" dish is the olive sauce tofu in a hot pot. This is delicious with plain rice. Good to see that they no longer use egg tofu for this dish.
I can be a bit of pain to dine out with. I generally steer towards pescatarian or vegetarian meals when out unless the providence of the animal can be vouched for. So it was a relief to discover Vegie Mum and walk and know that I don't have to scrutinise the menu to choose amongst slim pickings.
Great experience every time I came here. The manager is super friendly and attentive. He had no trouble recommending dishes for us when we didn't know what to eat. The way they serve they do the food here is with passion. Best vegetarian food experience in my life so far. Definitely recommend it to all my friends
Very tasty Combination Fried Rice Noodle and Char Kway Teow. The servings were big and we only needed to order two dishes among three people. Note that there is a surcharge for tea.
Came here for the Mother's Day set banquet, must say I left feeling incredibly full. Overall all the foods were fair it salty, even the shark fin soup. The combinations of the food and sauces were delicious, the sauces were just too overpowering. Dessert wasn't really dessert, it was just jellies and fruits. A bit noisy but definitely a family friendly restaurant
Best tasting vegetarian food I have tried. We ordered the duck, fish and pork dish. The sauces are full of flavour and quite tasty. The duck dish was a little bland for me though. The whole sweet and tangy fish ( not sure what it's actually called) was the star of the show. For those of you who are asking why they serve meats and a vegetarian restaurant, it's actually "mock meat" made from flour etc. Most dishes served here are mainly fried. Be sure to make reservation, they usually get quite busy on the weekends :)

For someone who is basically a carnivore, I was sceptical in coming here with my vegetarian friends.
However, my mind was blown.
Their food was very homey and tasted exactly now my Nanna used to make it.
Carnivores come out of your caves and release yourselves from hunting wild beasts to eat tantalizing mock meats. I'll definitely be crawling back to this place for more and to meet the outrageously friendly manager again.
The fried mushrooms come with a lattice of wasabi mayonnaise strewn on top. The mushrooms are juicy on the inside, and coated in a crispy, crunchy batter. Gaining ample kick from the wasabi mayonnaise...
Finally got to try this place. Good stuff. We had black pepper beef and kung pow chicken. Both really good. The "beef" in particular was probably the best mock meat I've had. Lot of great choices on the menu. Was hard to pick just two. Looking forward to trying again sometime soon.
Strange but truly delicious. I must admit I've always found the whole 'mock meat' thing a little strange. If you don't like to eat meat, why would you like to eat something that looks like meat? Fortunately Vegie Mum has plenty of variety on the menu, and I had a lot of regular Veg dishes to choose from. Everything is quick, wholesome and tasty, stir fries and noodle dishes are great. I just had to try not to stare at the vegetarian 'roast duck' at a nearby table, it was a work of art surely, but kind of weird. A very out of the way location, but don't let that put you off, it is a great experience! Not much room in there, so make sure you book ahead.
Delicious food and wonderful staff. We dined here for the first time this evening (1 vegetarian and 1 vegan). We were so impressed with the number of options on the menu and the food was great. The staff were helpful, offering recommendations which we thoroughly enjoyed. Make sure you book your table - we were lucky to get seated on a Friday evening without a reservation. We are definitely going to bring our family back for more. Highly recommend the satay sticks for entree and sweet and sour pork for main.
Unassumingly Delicious. As a meat eater I was very sceptical about what my tastebuds where about to experience, but my vegetarian family assured me it would be delicious and boy where they RIGHT :) This small unassuming restaurant is filled with warm hospitality and laughter. You are greeted with smile and a joke and then stuffed with the most amazing flavoured food. With the first bite of Satay "chicken" I was hooked.. (It made me wish real chicken tasted this tender and good) Then the tantalising flavours continued.. Crispy San choi Bow, delicious rice and Sizzling "steak" but my all time favourite Sweet and Sour "Pork" the crispy batter, the dripping sauce the tender vegetables (I will be dreaming of this dish for a while) All in all it is amazing value for money with the emphasis being on a great flavours in an fun family environment. It makes you feel a little better for the cows, chickens and little piggies too. Definitely be returning :)

uno was a 'fish', well sea weed and beans made to look like a fish

knowing god of a server! Seriously guys listen to your servers, they know their
Sh*t! The second dish was a special, silken tofu with mushrooms and pumpkin
dressing all over it - also delicious! We also got the usual spread of
irresistible spring rolls and other classic Asian delights, and a nice surprise
came in the form of the satay skewers! Seriously there was a lot of joy packed in those little
Kebabs! Anyway the food and service was amazing and I'll certainly be coming back for more!

That includes rice and green tea...really impressed!
Vege Haven. An excellent alternative when vegetarians and vegans are company. You can find many interesting and exciting dishes which will ignite your taste buds, fill you up and leave you satisfied without the need for meat. The service is friendly, vibrant and key driver to experimenting with new dishes suggested by the host. A must visit if you feel like an alternative to a meat dish, have stalwart vegan/vegetarians within your group or are just interested in what it's like.
Best vegeatarian/vegan food. Service is extremely friendly and the food is brilliant. The chef is very creative and constantly bringing out new and exciting dishes. The staple menu items are great too. My girlfriend and I love the harlok prawns.

I’ve been eating here for years and have always been highly impressed by the quality of food and service. As someone who grew up eating meat, became vegetarian, then vegan, I can confidently say that vegie mum has been my go-to restaurant regardless of diet!
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. It was nice to share a laugh and a joke. We were checked regularly to ensure we had everything we needed. Even the staff clearing the table thanked us for stacking the plates up and told us they appreciated it. We are from out of town and wish we lived closer because we had such a positive experience it was worth the trip just for that.
The staff checked we were vegetarian and when we said we were vegan they made sure they adapted everything which had options of egg or no egg, et cetera, without us having to reiterate. Everything which was recommended to us was delicious and we got extra to take away for later in our hotel. The food also came out really quickly and there was an extensive menu to choose from.

One of my go to locals - the crispy fried sweet and sour mushrooms 🤤 the owners of this place are next level friendly and make dining in alot of fun. The only slight negative is that the prices can be a bit much for what you get - but so worth it, as it's super tasty food!
