I love my dosa but for some reason lately a lot of places have been disappointing now using sugar in their batter. Decided to give Palms a try again, and the dosa although a bit more expensive, was very crispy, fermented well and was the perfect combo with idli and vadai. Great value for money, and super friendly service as well.
This food court styled restaurant is the best , I love all the food especially the Indian ! I love the butter chicken here especially. Great ambiance and decently priced food
Had the murtabak, chicken 55, and teh tarik.
Interesting place with its own standalone location that serves North Indian, South Indian, Malaysian, and Chinese cuisine all under one roof. Good place for having multiple dishes from different cuisines as you rarely see this combination.
Murtabak was alright, filled with lots of minced meat and served with a side of curry gravy. The chicken 55 was something new that I came across on a menu and it came out really well, very fragrant and tasty with the seasoning and is slightly spicy. I wasn't expecting much from the teh tarik and sure enough, it didn't hit the mark but was still alright.
The variety, price, and tastiness is hard to beat here.
Very affordable family place, we chose the banquet menu and the food was delicious .
The quantity was more than enough for all of us.
Staff us polite and service was fast.
We felt we were looked after.
Will be back for sure
The recently renovated Palms Restaurant really is the ideal place if you’re uncertain as to what to have for lunch/dinner. Been here a number of times and have rarely been disappointed. There are extensive Malaysian, Indian and Chinese dishes to choose from and deciding can be difficult. Carefully selected menu with a lot of authentic options will make you wanting to come back for more. Ideal place to bring the family or to celebrate any occasion as they cater for most events with private secluded areas. Fully licensed bar with beers on tap and some exciting dessert options.
Oh boy this is my childhood favourite it's a shame that I've moved out of the area now :( however I always get the satay chicken, roti canai and fried rice and omgg it's amazing everytime and so quick plus it always cost me under $40 for a few days meals. Excellent keep it up please don't change.
The Palms offers a unique layout where within the restaurant there are four stalls each serving a different cuisine. I like to come here for a wide variety of choice owing to the fact that they serve Chinese, North Indian, South Indian and Malaysian cuisines which are all done fairly well. This time I ordered the chapati and dosa set($12.80) which also included a vadai, chutney and some curries. The dosa was light and crispy as was the vadai. I thought the chapati was ok but it was a bit dry. The accompanying curries were delicious and flavoursome but were not very spicy. Serving sizes are generous and you're sure to leave with a full stomach!
Although, there isn't much in the way of ambiance but the restaurant is quite clean. While I didn't find the server at the stall taking my order particularly friendly, the waiters were all very lovely and attentive. Pretty much a frills-free experience but worth it for the food.

For cheap, delicious and filling meal; head to Palms Restaurant!
Located super conveniently near Syndal station, this restaurant serves the most affordable and delicious food in town. My family is a regular here and we have never had any complaints whatsoever!
I am a huge fan! Absolute 😍😍😍
If you want to eat traditional Indian food this is the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne I have been to a lot of Indian restaurant that was the best place
Excellent services, great value ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nice spacious place with 4 areas to order from: northern indian, south indian, malaysian and chinese . There is payment system for card but cash is on the spot. Food also came out relatively quick.
North indian ordered the samosas filled with tossed potato, green peas and spices. Compact and filling. Butter chicken as the main dish. Generous amount of rice and the curry was watered down.
South Indian ordered the ghee masala thosai with chicken curry. Aromatic, flavoursome but average. Dosa is wellmade and has a tangy hit to it whilst filled with potato and spices inside.
Donkeys ago we got some take-away from here and were unimpressed, thus we've avoided visiting Palms, and I must say, it was our loss.
There is no doubt, this place lacks any sophistication or style, but honestly, some very good food helps overlook it, and on top of that, prices are reasonable considering the serving sizes.
Country hopping is fun here, skipping easily between Malaysia, North and South India and China, and even then, sometimes you may wander into Nepalese and Thai territory too.
My dining companions and I did flit about a bit. There are three locations to place orders, the China/Malaysia window, the bar for drinks, and the Indian counter. This saw my partner and I head off to either ends of the room twice.
The dishes we tried that were really enjoyed were a very generous double serve of san choi bow chicken, a vegetable option is also available. All the flavours I would hope, including a subtle lup cheong sausage background note. Chicken tikka entree was four very large chunks of still moist chicken, mildly spiced so it worked for the kids. Onion bhaji was a more modest serve, but I am told 'ate' very well. The chicken and sweetcorn soup and wonton soup were good too.
Dish of the night, at least for me, was the paneer masala thosai, which came in all its glory on a metal tray - not big enough to contain the light and crispy thosai, generously filled with a delicious paneer and potato mix. The dhal was good, the sambar was great.
I heard nothing but praise for the Thai fried rice and satay chicken, and even a honey chicken - not a dish that would ever top my own list, was pretty nice, and the young one eating it liked it a lot.
Two kitchens means your food's unlikely to come out at the same time, in fact, even if you order from the same kitchen, food just arrives as it's done. Considering the surrounds though, it's almost to be expected.
Service from the wait staff is friendly, the service behind the counter was a little vague and lost at both food counters. I have never seen staff standing in a restaurant drying dishes, stacks of them, and about six staff. We were in early (this happened around 6.00 pm), just quite an unusual sight!
I can only imagine a lot of the food here is authentic to its roots, judging by diners who's background may well be similar. For us, authentic or not, most of it was really very delicious. I'd hate to leave it years before we popped in again.
LIT!: decently priced food. We had the biryani and butter chicken which was enjoyable. It's also a huge area for group parties.
NOT SO LIT: the environment echoes a lot which resembles to a food court
I love this place, the food is so yum while the price is very reasonable. There is nothing to complain about service. But, it will be awesome if they have a better variety of desserts
Being going here for over 10 years. The Malaysian roti and chicken curry is a staple. Every now and then we will have tandoori and also some fried rice and bbq pork. Had a recent refurb.
Set up like a food court there is the option of four different types of cuisine (or ALL four). I went with the intention of ordering from the North Indian section and I knew I'd be on to a winner given the restaurant was recommended to me by Indian friends. I was not disappointed. Butterry garlicky naan and creamy delicious butter chicken. I love that everyone in your dining group has choice and variety and while it's a casual type of place it's bloody good food. I'll be back
This is almost a weekly event for us. Great value, the food is really good and cheap, service is excellent. It's a louder environment that your average restaurant, more of a food court volume. But if you like to engage in loud conversation/laughter and not be restricted to whispering, this place is great!
I been visiting Palms Resturant as a child and I have seen it grow and develop over the years. It's always a family favourite because their is absolutely something for everyone. It's a common crowd pleaser. Over the years I have tried many different dishes mainly Indian, Malaysian and Srilankan which favourites. Sunday Hoopers is also a highlight. Recently visited for a lunch which I found was absolutely perfect in flavour and cooking technique. Love the improvements made to the overall look of Palms Restaurant.
Recently reopened after some refurbishment. Previously, the seating later were cramp and atmosphere drab. We won't eat there unless we ran out of ideas.
On Sunday, we took a snap decision to head there for lunch. Were pleasantly surprised by the make over. Seating are also better spaced so we thought there's hope yet. The only thing I don't get is why adorn the Great Wall of China wallpaper on the Southeast Asian kitchen side. Poor choice of interior consultant.
Food wise, we ordered diced chicken salted fish fried rice, egg rotund and the beef murtabak. Not sure why they use basmati rice for the fried rice but it does well in the taste department there. The roti is nothing special but the murtabak where I had high hopes for fell flat. The meat fillings were dry. I guess the mince has been around for a while. And for the life of me, I don't understand why they include spring onion in the murtabak??? If their cook is Malaysian or Singaporean, they ought to be sacked! If they are from South Asia, get them done training!
Overall, a better experience than the last. Gotta be the wallpaper.
Love this place. The food is great & reasonably priced. The staff are friendly. Clean but not the greatest atmosphere but you're really there for the food! Husband I go here regularly especially for the Indian food. Last night we ordered the banquet which was $21.50 per person & got a lot food! The samosas are delicious.
Ordered plenty of things, the whole place is a mix of 3-4 different kitchens. Ordered fried rice, chilli chicken, south indian thali, sambhar rice, palak chicken, naans, crispy noodles and drinks. Apart from the Sambhar Rice everything was good. Ordered few drinks as well, the chocolate milkshake was more like a Milo milk shake, not impressed with it. All in all a good experience.
Decent place for a variety of Indian cuisine, as well as Malaysian and Chinese. I've been here a few times and tried dishes from all stalls. The Indian ones particularly stood out due to the wide range of dishes available. I particularly like their thosai and masala (Indian stalls). The rotis were not bad too (Malaysian stall). I also love the mango lassi served here! Unfortunately, the Chinese food was a let down so don't bother. Also, they serve Hoppers on Sunday nights which are not to be missed!
Service can be a little haphazard although friendly and the food is served pretty quickly. I'll be back occasionally for convenient and good Indian food :)
Wonderful large restaurant with a lot of variety , I enjoy their Indian food most and their buffet on Tuesday's are amazing (all you can eat!) my favourite is their butter chicken. Good customer service.
Palms can do no wrong. Good service, good food and a food court style with options to choose from
Chinese, Malaysian, North and South Indian. Out of the 4 choices in cuisine, Chinese is my least fav here ( I love Chinese food but not in palms). Malaysian and South Indian food is simply yummy. A regular here to fix my Dosa cravings.
A food court with a difference? Come to Palms Restauraunt not far from Syndal station in Glen Waverley - includes plenty of parking. Yes everything is under one roof - a choice of North/South Indian, Malaysian, Chinese and traditional Italian-style cafe with sweets. Prepare yourself for mouth-watering confusion as no less than 8 pages full of tightly-typed food items lay before you in this extensive menu - so large families please make up your mind before going as the ordering system may drive you to tears while you wait to eat! My Beef Vindaloo was one of the best I've had but the Chicken Tandoori left my palate a little dry - saved by the Daal Makhani and Garlic Naan! The dishes are average servings and the price resonates with a slightly more expensive wage bracket, however the average couple will get away with an excellent meal for $60. A score of 3.5 reflects the high quality meals balanced with high noise level and medium to high prices.
Palms is one of the best restaurants in Melbourne. The quality of the food is out of this world. One of the features of this restaurant is it has four kitchens (North/South Indian, Malaysian and Chinese). The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are so friendly and happy. The manager is doing an excellent job and deserves every bit of success in this world. I highly recommend the North Indian buffet on Tuesday nights. All you can eat for only $17.50. Great quality, great value, great service and a fantastic establishment. What else can you ask for?!!!!:)
Expensive Delicious Habit.

This place appeals to a wide audience: there is a LOT to choose from, the portions are extremely generous, it is reasonably priced, and the food tastes fresh and not greasy. So much to like!
You know you're on to a winner when the people you're with grew up eating this food, and they enjoy it too.
The service was good, the food was good, the location suited me perfectly. Win!
Taste delight. The Marsala dosa is amazing especially with thali. There is so Mich good food here I could keep coming back for weeks without tasting everything. Decor is basic and can be noisy but its worth it for the food. Love, love it!

Good South Indian food, best appams (hoppers- on Sunday's only) and delicious kulfi. Friendly n courteous staff. Definitely coming back again
Tried Indian food (thali). Yummy food, value for money and very friendly staff.. :-)
Great value for money! Food was fresh and delicious. Staff helpful and explained the ordering process clearly
Excellent Ice Kachang at The Palms!!. Hello Everyone
I have been frequenting The Palms since it first opened in August 1996. I continue to go there on a regular basis (perhaps twice a week) for either lunch or lateish dinner. My wife, Rhea, also enjoys the cuisine there as she is from the Philippines and enjoys a range of Asian food.
Typically, we will have something from the Indian section which may be the ubiquitous Tandoori Platter or perhaps, my beloved, late mother's favourite, Prawn Malai. Alternatively, I am also a devotee of the Prawn 55 dish (with red, cooked chillies atop lightly battered prawns cooked in a delightful concotion of "55" spices), or, Curry Laksa, both of which are available through the Rasu Ka (Malaysian kitchen) which always seems busy.
Just recently, I noted the desert menu was expanded to include Ice Kachang, the well-known Malaysian ice dessert. Up to now, The Palms had the usual array of desserts including: gulab jamuns, mango pudding, coconut toffee, milk toffee, and an assortment of western cakes and mousses. These were all fine, but somewhat predictable.
However, when I saw that Ice Kachang had been added, I thought I would give this a go. I love this desert and have done so for years after a friend from Singapore (Chris) introduced it to me. But, generally, I find it difficult to find a really good one. Well, I can stop my searching! The dessert served up to me was indeed excellent for all the right reasons: I was presented with a nicely balanced dish consisting of the usual ingredients including red beans, corn, various jellies, underpinned by a small mound of shaved ice embued heavily with evaporated milk and rose syrup. Also, included was a small amount of peanuts and a dollop of vanilla ice-cream. Everything was balanced and no one ingredient was overpowering. It was the right touch, flavour, and finish to a very spicy meal!
An excellent example of Ice Kachang.
AJIT - was the man who made this up for me and I must say, I was truly impressed. A simple, yet elegant way to finish off an Asian meal. I thoroughly recommend it.
Good job Palms!

Fantastic beef n black bean.... great coconut rice...
Kid friendly. Lots of choice from Indian, Malaysian and Chinese cuisine. Quite a noisy restaurant which is good if you have kids that are noisy too. Cheap eat. Good if you are planning to dine with a big group. Ample parking adjacent and on the side streets
So Cheap So good. Wonderful tasty south asian cuisine. Huge fan of the thosai!
Many options here.. Food quality is good. Fast service. Lots of complications in ordering in different kitchens.. Still value for money.
Had the Indian thosai here which was cheap and nice! Definitely value for money and will come back and try the other Indian offerings. Glad the food also wasnt too oily either, which is often a problem with Indian food
Hearty Indian Food at Budget Prices. Highly recommended place to eat. We ordered from the 'Tandoori' food stall.
The curry beef was nice and hot (in both temperature and spice)and the diced beef was tender and cooked perfectly. The korma vegetables was nice but a bit too creamy for our liking but we're not into creamy stuff.
The only disappointment was the tandoori chicken as the breast was very very dry. Other than that, we will come back again for more feasting.
The wait staff were friendly and attentive so I am unsure about the previous reviews.
South Indian Restaurant is awesome!. I love coming here with my friends as it has great kitchens that we can all choose from. My personal favourite is the South Indian restaurant as I LOVE the Masala Thosai. Service is always great too and we usually have a laugh with the waiters, nice and relaxed place with great food.
Although the service is terrible, the food is brilliant and the prices are affordable. This place is a favourite of my girlfriend and I.
South Indian, North Indian, Malaysian and Chinese kitchens, all in the one food court.
Cheap, quick, varied and easy eating.
I like the Indian kitchens the best.
Delicious. My friend and I used to eat at Palms years ago and we can't remember why we stopped going... We are back and the food is fabulous! When I say that the truth is we only get the South Indian as we can't trade on it as its so good and hard to find around Melbourne. You get a lot for our money and the thosai are enormous! Curries are tasty and accompaniments plentiful. For the first time tonight I got a coffee and I have to say I wasn't expecting much as coffee is so often so disappointing and the coffee firstly looked amazing and it tasted even better. I am SO fussy with coffee and this was excellent. Will be back again and again.
I have been going to palms for the last 3 years or so. Had tried dishes from all 4 kitchens and all of it is incredibly good. Excellent value for money, very good customer service- well worth the $15 or so you pay for a dish
Asian/Indian food court. Palms Restaurant is fairly close to my work so I have been there quite a few times for lunch.
It's basically a "food court" style hall with various vendors on each corner of the room, and a menu which lists food from each place. You choose what you want from the menu, go to the appropriate corner, order and pay. They deliver the food to your table when it's ready.
I almost always go for Greenlands which serves south Indian vegetarian food. They have a great lunch combo called "Curry and rice" which is a thali-style meal with 2-3 vege curries, steamed rice, yoghurt, salad and a vadai or similar fried product. It's a filling meal which offers a variety of tastes for a decent price.
I always go for the Indian food here which has been consistently good. Can't say much about the Chinese food, they never seem to tempt me with the looks of it. But I was glad to hear that my boss of Indian origin recommended this place for the Indian food as well. Keep up the good work!
If you want great, authentic south Indian + Sri lankan yummy meals you just stumbled across Melbourne's greatest. Sunday night Hoppers are to die for, char kway teow, masala dosai, naan !!!! You don't come for the atmosphere or decor , but fantastic, fresh food that is served with a smile.
Food has always been good but went there after they did their renovation. Wow. In terms of overall experience palms is great for a quick meal or a group get together. Cheap but great
Yummy South Indian Cuisine. This place happens to contain my closest South Indian cuisine. The servings are generous and the menu is extensive. It's also pretty cheap.
My family has eaten some of the other cuisines available here - from the Chinese and North Indian restuarants and they tell me it's ok. Nothing is tempting me away from the dosai and idli though.
Best dosai in Melbourne. Great affordable food with excellent Sri lankan/ south Indian dishes as well as the most tastiest flaky Malaysian roti ever! Super roti supreme from the rasa ku concession is a must. As one of the dosai conventions from the Sri lankan/vegetarian place. BYO wine no charge!
