All the foods are Excellent , it doesn’t takes long time to come out. Very authentic Japanese taste , just like in Japan. Definitely will come again
EXCELLENT value. Great service and friendly staff. I eat the Takoyaki at least once a week. All dishes, including Sush, are hand made. Authentic Japanese people with great respect.
My partner and I had dinner here a few weeks ago after a show in the Comedy Theatre. Delicious food, and extremely friendly service. The atmosphere was very cozy and I would love to come back again sometime.
This place is simple, cosy and reasonable. I’ve come here for lunch a few times at 12pm when I’m feeling slightly healthy. Every time I get the bento boxes without fail. Great for small and larger groups.
We got the Yasai Bento Box which is very reasonable at $9.80 with beef teriyaki, seaweed salad and the chicken drumsticks, Tonkatsu bento ($12.90) with a delicious pork cutlet and Yamato bento which has tempura and the choice of chicken or sashimi for an addition cost. All their bentos come with miso soup and rice which is always a must. Love their fried tempura here, so Yamato is a great bento box.
If you’re looking for a simple, easy and delicious meal, give it a try!
I have been visiting Yamato semi-reguarly and I'm a big fan. My go to dishes are the Beef Nikusashi, Assorted Sashimi. The quality of fish is amazing and the rolls are always freshly made to order. Value for money is fantastic, two people for dinner being 70 without alcohol.
The bento box is very reasonably priced. I ordered the yasai bento, which is vegetarian. It came with miso soup, tempura vegetables, agedashi tofu and salad. The tempura is light and tasty. It's understandable that this place is busy.
Needing a quick feed before watching the amazing specialty known as Aladdin the Musical seeming as we spent more time in traffic than we had expected on a Friday night. Right next door was Yamato, surprisingly not that busy busy there was a slight struggle with service with only one waitress serving and a family who entered before us also asking million and a half questions as it was their first time having japanese.
She did an amazing job though keeping it cool, calm and collected. Food here was delicious having ordered the tempura that was bith fresh and crunchy and also Katsu curry which hit the spot. In saying that, it really could've done with some vegetables like carrot and onion to make it a little more wholesome. Other than that, it was great so till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!
I ordered the tonkatsu for $12.10. Its definitely above average. The pork crumble is very crispy. Regular speed service. My only concern is the portion size it's rather small for the price. But still a good place to grab lunch.
Being here many times and tried different options. Awesome! Enjoyable flavours and precision in every dish. Good points for fried stuff (tempura): never soggy nor carelessly made.
Excellent sushi , especially the chirashi.
Nabe hot pots are also well made . Although it's a dated , old world Japanese vibe , it's not too corny like others, and still stands up well ( it's been that way for at least 15 years) .
I like the paper screen windows, and paper lanterns. I also like the raised platform with a table behind the feature wall.
Food was great, very tasty. I had salmon and tobiko rice. Extensive beer and Japanese alcohol available. Very tiny restaurant, recommend booking! However, very cute and cosy inside.
$10 per bottle corkage is way too high however!! No point being BYO. And portion sizes are very small. Overall, a nice place
Good cheap Japanese food. We simply happened to find this little Japanese restaurant whilst looking for somewhere to eat. It’s really reasonably priced there’s a lot to choose from and the food ordered returned was plentiful and flavoursome. The bento lunches we really good as was our rice beer. Decor and fittings however really do need an update though. The staff were very friendly (almost shy) and looked after us as expected. This place is ok for a quick meal in a hurry, not for a special occasion and keeping that in mind in terms of value for money it gets a thumbs up from me and worth a second visit.
Highly recommended. Friendly service and great classic Japanese restaurant environment.
A small place for delicioues Japanese food, this restaurant was hidden in a small alley at the exchibition st at Melbourne, simply say it is diamon in the rough. You have to discover this small shop in the china town. The food is good and the price is very reasonable, the service is abit messy during the peek hour but for the good food I say it is worth it to wait.
One of the only places in melbourne you can get authentic Japanese food, made by Japanese at affordable prices. Extremely high quality and great service. Highly recommended!! ^^
Been here a few times with friends and has alway enjoyed my food. But went there last night and service wasn't as good because waitresses were clueless and didn't really know the menu. Food was still good but I wonder how hard it is to memorise how many sushis there are on an entree plate and a main plate.. Because I already know it by heart now since they showed us their cheat sheet lol
