I love the bar area! The menu is simple but effective and the flavours are all really clean. The atmosphere is on point - cosy, sophisticated and quiet. It's the perfect place to have a drink when you actually want to have a conversation. The live jazz certainly helps to cement it as a great place to chill and have some excellent cocktails.
Very classy venue perfect for a romantic date :) great music choice! small sharing plates are amazing as well as deserts. My main dish of steam fish is blend and the only let down otherwise I’d given it a 5-star!

The atmosphere is so 1920s Paris, it’s really gorgeous too. Loved the duck liver parfait. We had the Côte de Boeuf as our main and shared 3 entrees being the parfait, crab crumpet and steak tartare.
Booked dinner at this place for a Friday dinner.
Ambience : 5/5. Love the interior decor. Dimmed lights and subtle jazz music instantly creates an intimate mood.
Food : 4/5. We went with the chef’s recommendation and opted for the pescatarian diet. Presentation was pleasant. Food was fresh and full of flavor although I felt the sauce has overpowered the flounder. The spanner crab crumpet and mussels were my favorites.
Service : 4/5. Got a table in the middle but requested to be seated at a cosy corner of the restaurant. It was very nice of the waiter to allow us to do that.
Highly recommended : The oysters, mussels and spammer crab crumpet.
Will definitely come back for the great ambience and fresh seafood.
Fantastic French Flair restaurant in the heart of the city. Started our night with a cocktail at the bar before being seated at our table. The staff were very attentive and really looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. We ordered the chefs menu and each dish was so tasty and beautifully presented from entree right through to dessert. A cozy , elegant place to eat topped off with a live band playing jazzy French music that makes you almost feel you could be in Paris.
Surprisingly cosy for a hotel restaurant. French brasserie feel with solid authentic dishes
All the classics done well and solid service to boot
Belated wedding anniversary lunch and it did not disappoint.
First the ambience and low lighting created the perfect intimate mood, with subtle tunes in the background.
We were fortunate it was not busy on our visit and got to sit at one of the booths, I love me a booth especially a semi circular one.
We started with half a dozen Merimbula Sydney Rock Oysters. A little larger than usual but full of flavour and perfect texture.
Next we had the caviar service. DIVINE!!! Siberian black caviar with the most delicious plump blinis with finely diced French shallot, and chives, and creme fraiche.
For lunch we got the express lunch which is indelible affordable and value for money at $35 per person. You can choose two dishes from entree, main and dessert.
We opted to get one entree, the smoked duck liver parfait with wood fired bread and it was phenom! Such a generous portion too.
We chose a main each of the steak frites (amaze!) and the fried gnocchi (lovely but probably the least favourite dish).
For desert we chose the mousse which was a layer of coffee, vanilla mascapone and chocolate mousse. Very rich and like the entree, generous so that it easily shared amongst two.
I had two glasses of Perrier jouët and hubs had two whiskeys. I also had a piccolo which was the best coffee I had had today.
Service was standout. Will definitely return.

The moment you walk in, you're greeted by a sense of old school romanticism and elegance. The staff here really know their stuff - friendly not casual, helpful not coddling.
Food was fantastic. Their spanner crab crumpet is still a beautifully fresh, tasty, and perfectly seasoned signature dish. The tartare is by the book yum. And amongst all the great other dishes, only the non-crunchy thick cut pomme frites disappointed.
Come for a special occasion and feel like you've just stepped back to the oldies but goodies.
Bianca: One of our last meals in Melbourne was at the recently opened restaurant The Mayfair. Sitting just below the Sofitel hotel in the heart of the CBD. It’s a harkening nod to the yesteryears of the 1930’s and as soon as madre and I step into the restaurant I’m instantly transported to the effortlessly designed but ultra stylised Hubert in Sydney.
Food was amazing something a bit different for the city. The tartar and oysters certainly the highlights. Great wine list that’s not outrageously priced. Service good and hospitable particularly from the maître d, a couple other need a touch more attention to detail with timing clearing filling water double checking tables but that’s quite critical by no means bad. Great place will be back
Interesting bar and bistro near the Sofitel hotel and the back entrance to Collins Place. It was doing good business when we arrived. They promptly and happily found us a table although it was quite crowded. Wine choices were good. The tapas style food was good, particularly the crab dish which was very expensive. Service was good as well. It has the feeling of a new business that’s on the up. Recommended.
Really like the ambience of this place. Really! Dined twice and had drinks once. The food is ok (entrees are better than the mains. Make sure you try a crab crumpet dish! ). In my opinion, the service needs to be improved. Both times we ended up waiting too long between teh coursees and had to ask if everything is ok. The waiting staff can also be more... selfaware, I guess. We found some of the staff loved to engage in long chats with customers, and this is great, but not when other customer are waiting. It really is a shame as the potential ot his this palce is good. The ambience is really great, have a imentioned that?
Had a lovely dinner at the Mayfair tonight. A classy and old world design with knowledgeable staff and delicious French bistro food. For entree we shared a selection of oysters and the steak tartare. Then for main I went for the rockling with rouille, roasted fennel and pickled mussels. We also shared the rocket salad side as well as the confit tomatoes. The steak tartare was phenomenal- great texture and perfectly seasoned. I was also really impressed with the generous portion of expertly cooked rockling combined with the smooth and flavoursome rouille.
The place is nicely located near Sofitel but the understated entrance can be easily missed if one is not careful. Once inside , you can definitely feel the 'classy' vibe with classy decor to match. The wait staff were attentive and had good knowledge of the menu as well as the wine on offer. The food - very 'Frenchy' - embarrassed to say we had trouble reading the menu but the food was divine . We ordered a couple of entree to share between the 6 of us including the charcuterie n for mains the duck pie , fish and steak . Even though there were no kids meals - they were very accomodating and prepared pasta for the kids. If you are after a great classy experience - this place def ticked all the boxes and more
Have dined here twice now and the 2nd visit was even better than the 1st. The crab crumpet has to be there go to dish which we will have every time.
The staff were fabulous and knew there stuff, we had perfect charming service. Wine list is interesting and we loved our suggested Nocturne Chardonnay from Margaret River.
We tried the pork belly croquettes which were huge and full of pork and a great start. Next we had the crab crumpet then the tuna and asparagus which was really good.
Four of us shared mains of lamb special, truffle and cauliflower risotto, duck and the Saturday night dish of veal Pithivier which was really good. The risotto was delicious as were all the mains. Each dish seemed better than the last, they all had beautiful sauces and sides and we were all really impressed.
We drank few cocktails at the bar first, the room is perfectly lit really great space for a catch up. We really enjoyed the addition of live jazz while we dined too! Place has a great atmosphere and they have an awesome sounding late menu (10:30 - 1:00) that we will return to sample. Suckling pig sausage rolls anyone?
Some thoughts to share after numerous visits across weekdays and weekends, dinner time and super late supper, with friends and alone. The vibe is a wonderful hum. Intimate when it’s quiet but fun without the loud music and shouting match other restaurants make us endure. I’m the kind of person that feels a venue and I am so comfortable from the moment I step inside especially when there is jazz on (I can only think of 4 venues in the world that put me at ease like that). We love interacting with the staff and we are yet to fault any of the service interactions. They seem to be old hands at proper hospitality. We enjoy the drinks a lot (not surprising as we enjoy Joe’s drinks from Romeo and Arlechin too). The bar is a nice vibe and feels just the right amount of separation from the main restaurant. Enjoy the colours of the spirits and liquors on display as well as the subtle ceiling elements. We have had cheese and dessert in the bar as well - both were fabulous. We are cocktail drinkers so we can’t speak to the wine list or beers. We are due to return for a full dinner experience in a few weeks for a celebration. I have a feeling that the food will be good but short of it being inedible it won’t likely change my desire to return for the atmosphere. If you’re able to enjoy a restaurant when just having a dessert or cheese then it has done a splendid job. We are planning to take business clients here also.
I have not found many romantic places but this is surely on my list for a date night. We got there about 8pm and the place was full, luckily we had made a booking. We already had dinner so we were just after some desserts and drinks. They have plenty of choices for cocktails and wines but not really for beer and no ciders. The pineapple tarte tatin was really good, the pastry was thin and crispy and overall its not overly sweet. The silken chocolate tart was indeed very silky and smooth, couldnt ask for anything more really. The creme brûlé on the other hand was too runny, it didnt set enough so it was more like eating custard sauce with a spoon. We told the staff because we wanted them to improve and not really expecting anything. but the manager took it off the bill and said that he had deliver the feedback to the kitchen team, he also said that we have to come back to try their creme brule again. It felt really good when you give a feedback and the manager takes it seriously because they really care about their customers. I would say service was great although our waiter seemed to be everywhere and we had to remind her a few times about our order. Anw, we'd certainly be back!
We had some time to fill in between work and a new menu sampling so called in to check out The Mayfair up at the Paris end of Collins Street. Kelisi has seen this place come together over the past wee while in the former location of Pei Modern and was keen to check it out.
Walking past it you might think they had shut up shop but the shades are drawn to give a cool jazzy intimate feel. Menu was quite reasonably sized but given our limited time we sat in the bar area and ordered a Nevada cocktail (made with grapefruit, lime and bitters), G&T and a couple of oysters each to try the two varieties on option (coming from Merimbula & South Australia). The cocktail was super tasty but on the small side. The sauce that accompanied the oysters s was a marketable item... bottle it and sell it! Staff were friendly and good at what they did despite being only 7 days in since opening.
Would definitely come back here for more.
Intimate and classy, amazing wine list and superb entrees. Main (bavette) is a miss, but all is forgiven - great service, jazz band and the impressive wine list. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
