Reviews N Lee Bakery

There are very good reasons why there is often a line out the door for the N. Lee Bakery in South Melbourne, and the fabulous Banh Mi are one of them. With the freshest of ingredients and friendly service, regulars will queue quite happy for one of these beauties.

I ordered a spicy pork belly banh mi and my five minute wait was so worth it. The baguette was fresh and crunchy, the salad was crispy and the pork was sweet and tender. I particularly love the cucumber and shredded carrot, and the coriander adds a lovely flavour.

The staff are always so lovely, and despite the fact that they get quite busy, are always smiling and happy. Getting a banh mi or sweet treat from N. Lee Bakery is one of life's simple pleasures that doesn't cost a lot, but really does make you happy.

N Lee are our favourite Bahn Mi rolls in Melbourne. The Collingwood store is still the best and a little cheaper but this is great too. everything so fresh!!

What lunch can you possibly get for under 10 bucks?

Yummy patty, fresh filling, the chili gives your tastebud a ride! The BBQ PORK banh mi is my all time favourite. If you love something special, visit on Friday they have crispy pork banh mi and people always line up for it. Super affordable lunch.

Usually hit up Collingwood but have been coming to south Melbourne more often and had to check it out. Best banh mi in Melbourne. Always consistent, not to expensive either. Grilled pork everyday 👌

Not cheap, and probably it's better for the consumers if they have more competitors. However their banh mi is good. Slightly smaller than the usual banh mi but the bread is super nice. I had grilled chicken banh mi on the last visit and I totally enjoyed it. The chilli was nice too, thumbs up

Needing a quick refuel, I’m grateful to have stumbled upon N. Lee Bakery. I’m always down for a good Bahn Mi but often find them to be disappointing; not today!

It’s tempting filling of hot, fresh chicken breast packed together with crisp and flavoursome veggies layered upon a beautiful paté all encased in a light, crunchy yet oh so soft roll. Needing to finish with something sweet I chose their Nutella filled dounut, fluffy and filled with chocolate hazelnut goodness. My taste buds are still in love.

Best Bahn Mi I’ve ever tasted hands down. N. Lee in South Melbourne is small and unassuming but delivers on quality. With a little people watching whilst eating my lunch it’s easy to see why N.Lee is popular stop for lunch.

Really great tasty banh mis. Grilled pork is my favourite, but can also order simple salad rolls with your choice of fillings. Coffee is also pretty good and love their Nutella donuts! Really friendly staff as well.

Nice joint to have a lunch quick fix. Several selections of Vietnamese or traditional sandwiches. Probably not as tasty as other Vietnamese Bakery joints, but it felt light and clean. Had the Pork Loaf Banh Mi, crisp and yum.

The Grilled Pork & Pork Belly Bahn Mi's here are tremendous, the bread is so damn fresh and delicious! Doughnuts and coffee however are pretty average.

Food mod's recommended - Extra meat.

Solid Vietnamese bakery in South Melbourne. Tasty and fresh bahn mi varieties served up at a reasonable price for this side of town. Didn't try the other food, but all looked good. Was also quite popular with the working crowd around Clarendon, which is always a good sign.

Always a long line for Banh Mis here at lunch hour peak times and there's a reason for that. It's fresh, fast and tasty.
On Fridays, there's a special Pork one which is very good.
The staff are friendly and the sweets are not over bearing and quite mild!

I ended up spending a surprising amount of time with N. Lee Bakery Cafe on Clarendon Street. A short stroll from the desk. How can you say no to freshly baked bread, savoury meat rolls, delightful pastries and generally great value? One of the lunch options with a constant queue (not that the final wait is ever that considerable, mind you) these meat rolls are a real people pleaser. I typically go for the Grilled Pork Banh Mi ($7.50). All Banh Mis have a similar treatment including the likes of salad, pate, butter and sauces.

What I love best about N. Lee is their rye vietnamese rolls, which are flavourful and keeps me full for longer (a problem for most Banh Mi for me).  The rolls with grilled pork and extra chilli (one of the few places that takes me seriously when I ask for extra chilli) is just to die for.  If this place was anywhere close to a private area I would stand in a corner making inappropriate sounds eating it.

I don't go often enough unfortunately, due to the discouraging queue.  Unfortunately due to the seemingly high turnaround in staff, some days the crews does them pretty quickly but other days not so much.  If I happen to go past it during lunch and found it without a queue, I'd walk in.

Great little lunch spot on Sth Melb. N.Lees specialty is their Banh Mi rolls - I've tried the pulled pork and meatballs. Bread is as it should be from a bakery - fresh and soft on the inside, crispy shell on the outside. The flavours of the fillings are superb, rich, full and with their signature, Asian slaw to compliment. The line can be out the door, but they pump the food out fast and the wait isn't as long as it might look.

The bread was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, absolutely delicious! I got the grilled pork as recommended by the staff member who served me and I was not disappointed. The sauce they used was ace! I normally don't like coriander but it wasn't an issue in this dish. Can't wait to go there on a Friday and try the Pork Crackling Roll!

The most expensive banh mi roll I've ever had but also one of the best. The French Viet rolls are baked in house and are crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. The Friday pork crackling special is tastalicious (although slightly fatty) but very popular with queues usually out the door.
Some staff are friendly but there are a few sour faced ones which I feel make the banh mi's that just don't taste as yummalicious as ones made by the friendlier staff!

We had the best Cappuccino in town. Only 3 bucks. The bread for the different rolls are home made and fresh. We will go there every time, when we use tram no. 12.

Great rolls. Baked in house. I really like the friday pork crackling roll special its a must try!

Bit over priced when comparing to Footscray but I’m sure the rent is also 10x the amount. So thats fine by me.

N. Lee is my go-to for a quick meal on my lunch break. I usually get the grilled pork banh mi. I'm not specialist, but its a great sandwich. Easily as good as most of the Victoria St shops, but a little more expensive - what do you expect when its new, clean, and the rent is probably much higher? I will be back again and again

Awesome Banh Mi, one of the best I've had. The bread is cooked to crispy perfection with so much flavor in the sauce and fillings, I recommend the grilled pork, can't go wrong with a Donutella and Vietnamese Coffee to go with as well, match made in heaven. The interior of the bakery gives the finishing touch to the experience, they've filled out the space with lovely interior, and to top it off, Tony & David provide great customer service day in, day out.Always a good feed at N.Lee, cheers boys!

Basic bakery for pastries, but SO inexpensive!. N. Lee bakeries seem more geared toward banh mi, but I like to pop into them for pastries to have with the macchiato coffees I make at home. That's my typical brekkie. Their croissants, etc. aren't knock-your-socks-off quality, but they're fresh and decent-tasting. The best thing is the price. It only cot me $4.50 in total for an apple Danish and a jam doughnut! I've paid more than that for a single Danish at lots of places. This N. Lee doesn't have as many pastries as the one on Collins Street -- seems to be more of a sandwich operation. But it certainly met my needs!

The jam doughnut was doughy but well-baked -- and big. I'd choose it over the more-hyped versions at Vic Market. And the pastry on the Danish was tasty, like it was made with real butter. I don't usually go for apple Danishes (I thought it was curds of cheese on there when I ordered it) but the chunks of fruit were soft and flavourful. Using a low-cost ingredient such as apples must help keep the cost per pastry low, and I like that.

Best Banh Mi!. South Melbourne is full of some impressive food but this one beats them all on not only taste but price! It's almost cheaper than brining your lunch to work. Love it!

So cruel that N. Lee would open in South Melbourne and not open on on weekends! Having sent hubby in on a random day of once in a while to pick me up a banh mi fix, a cheeky friday off to go to the GFWS worked perfectly with a tactical stop at N. Lee on the way for grilled pork loveliness. Oh the joy! So wonderful, crunchy baguette with that pork that we all love with the pink edges and the fresh carrot and the whack of chilli………. I’m in love with N. Lee!

If you get there around 1pm, be prepared for a queue, but the wait generally isn't too bad. They make the banh mi to order...

This place has the best Banh Mi in South Melbourne. The staff are super friendly, service is quick and the vietnamese iced coffees are a must try! The line starts to form at about 12pm as all the offices around break out for lunch, but it moves quite quickly. If you're not sure what to try first, I highly recommend the grilled pork.
