Beautiful location, amazing staff & authentic Italian food. The BEST Lasagne I have ever had... seriously
Beautiful location in a stunning Italian garden filled with fruit trees and herbs. The menu changes which is usually a good sign, using whatever fresh ingredients they have. Their pastas are amazing. Just be warned, the wait time is long. Both times I’ve been here it’s been nearly an hour for our food, and over 20 minutes for coffee. Freshly squeezed juice, however, came in normal time (
Most beautiful, unique setting in an old catholic primary school classroom-think high ceilings, polished floorboards, huge windows making the places feel so spacious. There is an oven cooking continental pastries fresh in front of your eyes...with the smell all around. The garden setting is truly beautiful with fig trees, fruit trees, herb gardens...so pretty and with towering bluesotne church in your view, it feels as if you are in a little village. You should make this a destination place for coffee...its so unique. Oh and the coffee? Magnificent.
Best pastries, hands down. Super authentic Italian, we’ve gone back countless times to have the custard donuts, sometimes even stopping to have two ! :)
This really is a hidden gem in South Melbourne - really wonderful Italian fare, including first class pasta dishes. It's run by charming Italian people and is family friendly. They bake bread and pastries on site. I'm going back ( I've walked past too many times - now I know )
This is a hidden gem.
But, no licence and no wine! In spite of a wine list shown under photos.
Great ambience, excellent food, genuine hospitality.

Just fantastic! Everything from the service, to the food and the coffee is just on point at this new cafe in South Melbourne. Amazing, will become my new local.
A real hidden gem. You wouldn't otherwise know this place existed. But it has an awesome courtyard if you have active toddlers etc. food is great.
Authentic Italy in South Melbourne - no need to say anymore but some of the best pastas, cakes from true Italian chef - our favourite and you could be in the middle of Italy

Beautiful simple Italian. The way it should clean refined space. Quality produce and preparation.
A hidden gem! Simple but incredibly tasty and authentic Italian cuisine. My extended family and I are big fans of this place- the best lasagne I've had in Melbourne! Relaxed and ambient atmosphere. We'll keep going back and would definitely recommend it!
A little hidden gem, an oasis in south melbourne, the food is fresh and of the highest quality, thankyou Andrea, for bringing your talent to our local neighborhood!
A great local find! BEST coffee, delicious bikkie and really friendly staff. The atmosphere was fantastic. I'm excited to have found my new local hangout! Grazie Mille!
Fantastic find. Probably the best coffee I've ever had. The food is made with love you can tell. I had been trying to stay away from pizza but could not resist and will definitely be back.
Andrea and his team are amazing and so accommodating & friendly. Held a morning tea function there recently for 100+ friends & the combination of the old convent school building and front protected courtyard makes this place the ideal group hangout. Freshly baked pastries & the canoli is to die for. Yum.
This is a fantastic cafe that offers classic Italian food amazing coffee and outstanding cakes. All cakes, breads and pizzas are made there with love. This great cafe is warm and you can be sitting there for hours enjoying the atmosphere. The choice to sit outside in the Presteigne garden in the sun or inside watching cakes pizza and more being made in front of you. It is open Wednesday to Sunday 8am-4pm. This is my favourite cafe.
I was lucky enough to discover this new restaurant via my Italian connections. Open only a month ago, Andrea Mantese has recently opened this establishment. Andrea is a renowned Italian pastry chef formerly of Caffe e Cucina and Il Fornaio. So what you can expect is the full Italian experience. Everything is made in-house. The menu is in Italian (on a blackboard as you enter). The feel of the converted church space is Italian. The beautiful outdoor courtyard feels like you are entering a northern Tuscan villa. I let my Italian amici order lunch which was a simple bowl of pasta threaded with deliciously sweet eggplant and softened garlic cloves topped with parmesan. It was the epitome of great Italian cuisine. The 'less is more' principle which I love. The dish was accompanied with a small margherita pizzetta. But you can tell the care taken in the dough of this simple dish. It was light and airy but with the chew of a dough you know has seen some love. Delicious. My friends would not let me leave without a sweet ending. So it was macchiatos all round (excellent coffee as I had anticipated) and selection of Andrea's delicate pastries....OMG. The pastries tasted as good as they looked. Fresh, crispy, sweet, creamy. I enjoyed a small strawberry custard tart. The custard wasn't overly sweet but a perfect texture and it sat on a delicate pastry case. The canoli my friends selected looked equally delicious. Simple perfection. This place will be discovered and it will be busy!
Best Secret Cafe we have found in Melbourne great hosts, great coffee, delush food some of the best pastries in OZ.
Hidden gem in South Melbourne, went with a friend for lunch and we were super impressed with the quality of the home cooked food. Will definitely be back! Try the freshly baked bread, it’s delicious

On the corner of Bank st and Montague street and hidden behind the tall red brick fence is a cute little cafe with plenty of outdoor seating and set inside an old part of the church. Cathedral ceilings and polish boards give the cafe a unique and spacious feel. A limited yet yummy menu with great coffee. Service is first class.

The best bruschetta I have had. Unreal little spot and beautiful garden. Beautiful Italian home away from home. The coffee is great —and the veg is so fresh. If feels like you are back in Italy in all the best ways. Bellissimo.
This was the first time my wife and I had been to Pietro e Paolo. We met on a Sunday afternoon with a group of 20 or so friends for coffees, snacks and sweets, and sat outside. What can I say? Everything was a thorough delight. As you can imagine we did sort of "overload" their sparse Sunday staff. But they handled it beautifully and everyone was full of praise about the food & drinks - and the friendly professionalism of the staff, including their absolutely charming and absolutely Italian boss. Highly recommend!

Great italian place to visit. Positioned in an old church garden and hall, it's perfect in any weather. Food choice is a bit limited, but everything on offer is perfect. Make sure you at least stop by for a coffee and something sweet!
