Stopped in for a coffee and a cake on the weekend. Shared the paris brest, opera cake and vanilla slice with my sister and boyfriend. All three were amazing and the almond milk latte was great.
Came here for a quick lunch, but as usual, I got distracted by the pastries and cakes on display. I managed to keep myself in line, and only ordered a Tim Tam cronut and a quiche Lorraine while my partner took the indulgent route and went with a croissant filled with mushrooms, fried egg and a side of bacon. Simple yet filling, and pleasantly delicious. Though I must agree with Timinmelbourne that the croissant wasn’t very good. A little too dry and tough.
A bit of a hit and miss with the coffee. We ordered two lattes, mine was good but my partner’s wasn’t. His latte was lacking in microfoam and wasn’t as enjoyable as mine.
The service was A+. Friendly and welcoming. Grab a table in the florist for a different twist, or all the way at the back for some privacy.
The current rating doesn't do it justice! Great service and delicious food. Not a massive fan of fritters but their zucchini, corn & halloumi fritters with a poached egg, avocado, spinach, spicy relish & sweet potato crisps - I could have this every morning. Loved the French inspired atmosphere and interior as well!
Super nice atmosphere! If you’re studying or just want to go to a cafe to read a book etc, this is the place. It’s super chill and they have window seats if you just want to look at people and not really do anything. Coffee was great!
I had a veggie burger and I would choose that again next time, delicious! The menu was quite unique but they still had classics like smash avo and toast. They also have donuts/muffins/croissants.
Staff was excellent as well. Would recommend!
I've found my new fave "golf widow on a solo Saturday morning" breakfast spot! Good vibes, sweet tunes, delish food, and great service! I sat right where the cafe joins onto a florist, so I was surrounded by the beautiful smell of fresh flowers which made my time there even better! While most Melbourne cafes are trying to cram a million people in, this place had a genuinely relaxed atmosphere, and it's laid out in such a way that I had that whole area of the cafe to myself the whole time I was there. The staff were attentive, but not pushy, and I felt no awkwardness about being on my own, and never felt pressured to hurry. They also had a whole counter full of enticing pastries which I didn't even get to try because my French toast was to die for!! They make their own "pain raisin" and it is a cinnamon lover's dream! I had such a lovely experience, and I will definitely be back!!
I was in the area and I saw this nice looking cafe. The service here was really good, a nice friendly barista.
My coffee was perfect, not too hot, the right amount of froth and good flavour. I ordered a crossiant against my better judgement as they didn't look too good. I was thinking they were soft and doughy and I was exactly right.
They had a deal for $6.50 w a coffee. Mmnn haha I should have listened to my inner voice! Don't get a crossiant today Tim.E lol
The rest of the pastries etc looked delicious, but I got swayed. This cafe had a really good fit out, and it shared an open space w a florist. So you could order coffee etc and eat in the florist. That's different haha
I'll come back for a coffee and a ? next time..: happy days 😊
A lovely coffee maker thanks drew this for me, u make my day。all the stafes was really nice ,beautiful shop.coffee always good.i really love this place
Stumbled across this little cafe as we were trying to find a place for coffee late on a Saturday afternoon...and ended up with flavoured scones, fruit danishes and nutella donuts as well! Lovely place with windows seating, seating in the neighbouring florist as well as out the back with new antique style furniture (like you are having tea with the Queen!) Service was friendly and efficient and everything tasted delish! The photos of their breakfasts and salads look amazing, so might have to pop back another time for a real meal! Definitely a winner being open later on Sat afternoon with options for between lunch and dinner.
The atmosphere of the cafe itself, joint with the florist next door provides a lovely and open space for customers to explore, especially the upstairs area (highly recommended for seating during the evenings)
The customer service and the interior is what first kept making me want to come back and try more things off their menu - ended up having lunch here with my boyfriend and it was exceptional like a serious OH MY GOODNESS
We both had the grilled minute steak and shoe string fries, one with the sourdough and the other (mine) with the baguette, he had a mocha to accompany his meal whilst i had a pressed orange juice. With this meal, I really liked both but i preferred the baguette if you like a flavoursome bread to have with the tender steak.
A sweet little treat i love getting at this cafe is the Paris Brest or what i call 'the donut', I personally dislike sweets but this dessert just caught my eye during one of my first visits - no mistake it was the best decision, bit pricey ($7.5) but it's all worth it, with the hazelnut feeling and the sweet pastry, some seriously good stuff.
I've taken two of my best friends here and they both have loved the experience here, and they are not the last that i would loved to bring here
It had been a long time coming before I got a chance to visit this place since had heard a lot of good things.
Finally got my chance over this weekend and I must say I was
not disappointed.
Amazing central location on the bustling Toorak Rd in South
Yarra. Loved the interiors of the place, it was fantastic and very modern. Looks like they
have renovated recently.
Amazing vibe and great food and drinks. The Mocha was to die
for!!
The missues loved the cakes on offer.
The staff were really friendly and prompt with their
service.
Will definitely be going there again.
I visited this beautiful french style cafe with my cousin, after a friend had recommended it to us. It was such a great experience and it certainly lived up to the hype. The food was absolutely delicious - We enjoyed the Black angus beef burger and the waffles with creme. The staff were warm and friendly and the cafe wasn’t too packed either. It’s actually the perfect place to chill with friends. I can’t wait to go there again! 5 stars from me!
I've been here a few times and I love this place, it is pretty nice. I love the food and customer service is excellent, the staff are friendly. The food is awesome and I don't have to wait too long. The location is fantastic and the interior is pretty nice. I'd recommend my friends to come here
Café de la Ville is one of my favourite cafés in South Yarra. The venue itself never ceases to delight, with it's mixture of modern style and classic French provincial decor. The staff are always friendly and accommodating and the cakes and pastries on display are quite exquisite to look at - they taste just as good, too! A little slice of French heaven tucked away in the urban streets of South Yarra. Highly recommended!
Mid week lunch cravings sent me walking up Toorak Road. Awhile back I was invited to an event at Cafe Delaville but wasn't able to make it. I was always curious about it and since it was so close to me at the time. It felt like it was my calling to go. Normally I don't like to go alone as I can never decide on sweet or savory. As much as I love sweets, I don't feel like my hunger is satisfied if I get just a sweet dish. So being along I ordered a savory dish.
We tried this French inspired cafe along Toorak Road and we were not disappointed. The interior is beautifully elegant. The chocolate and macadamia brownies with maple cream Chantilly and fresh raspberries was little too rich for our liking but definitely satisfied our chocolate cravings. The smashed avocado was average, nothing special. However we loved the smoked ocean trout salad; it was fresh and delicious. The pastry cabinet has a delectable range of pastries, you will be spoiled for choice!
Perched along Toorak Road, Café de la Ville boasts a beautifully decadent array of French pastries as you walk in, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that will have you feeling like you’re exploring the streets of Paris. Inspired by European eating, the menu offers French style cuisine focusing on quality. As expected of any good Melbourne café, the eatery prides itself on excellent coffee, working closely with Cottle on Coventry to provide a variety of coffee beans that have been carefully selected to guarantee a delicious cup of coffee.
Lovely fine dining spot in South Yarra. The Smoked Ocean Trout Salad with pickled fennel, roasted cauliflower and cauliflower purée, pink grapefruit and puffed quinoa ~ fresh and packed full of flavour, loved the cauliflower purée. And Up close and personal with the Cafe de la ville brownie dessert. Rich chocolate and macadamia brownie resting on Chantilly cream and fresh raspberries. Presented beautifully, tasted as good as it looked on the plate!
A gorgeous french gem in the heart of south yarra! Definitely recommend giving this cafe a try, whether you're just after a coffee, cake or a brunch you'll be pleasantly surprised! Loved the food served up here, definitely recommend the brioche french toast or the pumpkin galette

Café de la Ville portrays a certain elegance through its marble-patterned tables, decorative blue and white wallpaper and a contrasting dark and light theme with accents of gold, and a position near the intersection between Chapel St and Toorak Road seems like the perfect place for a French café. Mini sausage rolls, spinach and ricotta rolls, mini baguettes with poached chicken, slow roasted tomatoes, shredded carrot, fresh herbs, citrus mayo
Cafe de la Ville invited a whole group of Melbourne foodies along to sample their menu and be wowed by their incredible interiors.
We got to sample everything….smashed avo, ocean trout & vegetable salad, polenta, eggs benedict and of course dessert!
Cafe de la Ville has a very French feel about it and is a great addition to Toorak Road.
Check out the pictures below and go try them for yourself, and you can explore the South Yarra end of Chapel Street. Plenty of shopping and a very short walk to the Jam Factory.

The last time I was at 220 Toorak Rd was 15 years ago to pick up the keys to a property from Kay & Burton. This former real estate office has been beautifully transformed into the Parisian styled Café de la Ville. It appears that no expense has been spared with the fit out of this polished café in busy South Yarra. The blue and white wallpaper is gorgeous and is accented in the upholstery of the French styled café chairs. The lux marble counter and marble tables give this quaint spot even more chic with a gleaming coffee machine welcoming you as you enter.
Cafe De La Ville is a ménage à trois of classic French style – cafe, patisserie and french cuisine. Located in the heart of South Yarra, the european inspired cafe reeks sophistication. You can imagine a haughty crowd, discussing the latest nanny troubles or how the activated almond diet, totes revitalised their soul. The sleek marbled interior is an instagrammer’s dream, ready for flat lays and monogramed wallets. From the porcelain printed armchairs that match the ceiling, to metallic gold rims, Cafe De La Ville is a destination for
My husband and I have been gone there four times now, the reasons for us to go back is the scrumptious food and detailed customer service. Last time I ordered the "Cassoulet baked eggs" and it was a bit too salty for us so I didn't finish it. The staff asked us about the food so we said how we feel. After a while, she came back said they tried our food and admit it's not the flavor it should be, she offered to buy our coffee (we didn't take it). Even later, the chef came to apology and said hope it'll not effect your opinion about our shop. We are impressive about their sincere customer service which I haven't seen anywhere else. We will definitely keep going back. I love their 3 cheese waffle and fresh juice, my hubby loves their crunchy bacon, spicy chorizo and coffee. :)
Great atmosphere; great staff and of course...great food! My favourite at the moment is their smashed avocado...decadent and delicious! Their range of teas is also fabulous...you must try their cinnamon...spicy, sweet, stunning.
This place is reaaaal cute. The wallpaper on the ceiling made my neck sprain because I was so mesmerised by it!
But that cucumber smoothie made my day! One slurp of that green shit made my eyes roll with delight.
Ladies.... You gotta check this place out! Also, look out for that cute waiter with an accent. I felt like putting him in my handbag and taking him home with me!
Enjoy bitches!
Don't judge a book by its cover. Haha. Speaking of Cafe de la Ville, it's the best sayings. Why say that? Two reasons. U r gonna impress on its appearance of retailer n inner decorations which takes u go to a luxurious palace. So according to the first impression, I step into this cafe. First time, I judged by its look. Then, I checked rating of it while I was waiting for my order, what I felt surprised was such a fancy place wasn't worth a good evaluation. So, I believed that. Oh, I started to be guilty that why not check Zomato firstly before entering. Hehe. What done is done. But, when I got my cappuccino n chocolate cake, they were good match n really lovely flavour. I love it. Again. Don't judge a book by its cover!
Cake"Angelina" tastes good, a little bit sour. It's the favourite flavour for me. French style Waffle and croissant, all good. A nice place to go with friends.
If you want a taste of Paris in the hustle and bustle midsts of South Yarra, this is the place to go. This cafe is nothing short of whatever you describe as "regal".. teas and coffees are plentiful, and there are croissants and crepes galore. The Nutella crepes are to die for! Great service.
Fast becoming my favourite café in Melbourne. Great coffee, friendly staff, and a beautiful fit-out. Highly recommended.
We came here with the in laws and our baby and it was a little Frenchy Cafe with amazing coffee and pastries. Wanted a sandwich but as I'm allergic to fish I couldn't as all the non fishy sandwiches were touching the ones with fish so coffee it was. Perfect for a coffee though.
I visited this cafe yesterday for the first time ,
My Croissant Farcis was outstanding & Coffee was amazing
Great start to my day and i had a pastry on my way out and that also was magnificent , very happy :):):) One of my favourite cafe shops in Melbourne
100% coming back
The cafe experience is above par, beautiful setting, friendly staff and a relaxing vibe! I have gone back two weekends in a row for brunch to try out different menu items and have not been disappointed. I am also a little addicted to their coffee blend! Will definitely be going back for more!
I visited this cafe yesterday and it was a great experience. The cafe is so elegantly designed and the staff are warm and friendly. I had the Nutella waffle and it was the most amazing waffle I have ever had. The serving was that big I couldn't finish it all. I would definitely recommend this cafe to everyone.
Very elegant classic french cafe in the heart of south yarra. Excellent coffee and I can say the best I had in Melbourne. Last Sunday tried their salmon galette and nutella waffle, and they were amazing. Definitely going back for more.
Excellent service. Had the Belgian waffle, it was amazing! Not a big coffee drinker, so loved the selection of teas also. Definitely coming back here soon! 😀
The food and coffee is outstanding. Been here a few times now and the service has been consistent and really good. Will definitely be back for more.
This place is brilliant! Very impressed with the service and selection! All the pastries are beautifully displayed and the coffee was perfect. We will be back for sure!!
