Good service. Great macchiatos. Ambience in the cafe was pretty good, lots of room to read the newspaper and warm. Should throw some chill out on to improve it a little. Will be coming back to have breaky. Perfect place to stop by and grab coffee before gym.
Dropped in for a quick dinner and was blown away by the gourmet beef burger with toasted brioche bun. Amazing burger value for $12. Side of hand cut roasted potato wedges (modestly called "roast potato" on the menu!) was equally delicious. One of the best burgers in Melbourne, hidden in an unassuming little cafe. Staff were very friendly and took great care with the food. Will definitely be back to sample more of their dishes!
In the running for Melbourne's best burger. Coffee never disappoints and the service is friendly and neighbourly. Excellent reasonably priced food you can take to the gardens, tennis or the G.
Lucky to have this as our local
Come here for coffee every morning and it's amazing. Such nice people and recently discovered they do beers and tapas as well. Sensational!!
Great food, good coffee. Bread is amazing! Nice inside, nothing to absolutely rave about but would definitely come back. Lots of room for larger groups too.
Since making the move to the other side of East Melbourne, we've rediscovered a few more local brunch options. Mugs Alley is one of our favorites for its warm service, freshly squeezed juices, hearty food options and the fact that it serves really good gluten free bread.
Yes mugs has changed hands - food is a little different give it a go and make up your own mind. The previous owners were named Bridgland so I wouldnt take to much from Simon Bridglands review
As he is the son. - sad really
Great coffee warm service. Absolutely love my morning coffee at Mugs Alley! the blend is always consistent and perfect. the staff are wonderful. would recommend to anyone.
Great selection of good, health & tasty food, exceptional coffee & friendly staff. Welcoming & warm environment to destress in. Worth it!
Fancy-dress breakfast. I popped into Mugs Alley whilst on walkabout one Saturday morning because I wanted some good coffee and brekky instead of average, and this place looked upscale. The large flat white I had was full-flavoured and robust, as one would expect from a barista-driven place. Service was a bit slow because there was only one waitress working the front of the house and ringing people up at the register, plus the baristo working flat-out. The grumpy older chap referred to in one of the reviews (he didn't come across as mean to me) had to deliver food to some of the tables.
Mugs Alley isn't too strong in the pastry department, being more of a full-breakfast type of place, so I had a Moroccan chicken pie ($8.50) It was in another class entirely from the typical Aussie "rat coffin." It had some nicely folded crust, done up in a circular pattern with the leaves converging on the centre. Inside was chicken (a bit too dry), along with pumpkin, chickpeas and caramelised onion, all suffused with the exotic flavour of ras el hanout.
Mugs Alley looks like it draws its customers from the boutique hotels in this big end of East Melbourne. I haven't had coffee in any other place where I've been surrounded by so many blokes in business suits with neckties (on Saturday morning?) and women in designer print fabrics. It's got a chic modern interior befitting the jazz music playing in the background. If you go, dress up a bit, eh?
Great food, great value, great atmosphere. Great hidden gem in Melbourne's East. Had a chicken mushroom pie with cous cous salad on my first visit and second time had the spinach pie. Not too bad on the hip pocket and great aesthetics and ambience. Not without it's teething issues when first taken over but now well and truly worth a visit!
Agree...this place is not what it used to be. I live in one of the apartments above.....the business changed hands last year after a lovely family took over the place and decked out the place with an awesome renovation and introduced classy tapas and wine of a night time. After building up the business, they elected to sell it and pursue further opportunities. Unfortunately since then, the place has rapidly gone downhill. I would love the place to be revamped again and back to what it used to be when the previous owners completely changed the place and called it Mugs Alley.

Little gem on CBD fringe!. Had a meeting in the Oamps building today and popped out for a quick tandoori chicken salad and latte. The salad was beautiful, nice and fresh, a ton of fresh ingredients and a hint of fresh chilli made it an absolute winner. Coffee was spot on too and up there with anything in the CBD.
There is lovely outdoor furniture which is where I sat, overlooking the beautiful gardens across the road.
This place is a hidden gem and just a short stroll from the centre of town. If you're in the area, would definitely recommend you pop in!
Great coffee and food. The breakfast rolls are delicious and the service has been consistent throughout lockdown. Always a lovely place and the staff are kind and helpful.
My favourite local!! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee… very happy repeat customer!!!
Great coffee, great service and great location on a nice day. Parking a little difficult if busy but ..... worth a look if you are around East Melbourne.
The food and service at Mugs Alley never disappoints!! Their new menu is tasty and delicious (I particularly love the breakfast stack, the potato rosti is to die for).
Friday evenings are also a great time to visit with the cafe doing live music and tapas.. we really enjoyed our night out at Mugs and I am looking forward to the next visit!
Great food! Coffee is bit hit and miss. Sometimes it's lovely and other times the grind is off. Overall though these people are a trusted local business and I know I'll get something delicious and very reasonably priced for breakfast or lunch.
Family breakfast. Kid friendly place. Helpful and friendly staff. Great coffee and food, especially the house made beans!
