I got a pineapple fried rice with chicken for lunch. At first glance, it didn’t look like there was a lot, but there turned out to be a lot of chicken and I struggled to finish the whole plate. I would have liked some more pineapple though. A great affordable place for a quick lunch.

I have been constantly ordering deliveries from this restaurant with the same menu : Crispy Pork Kana Rice. This deserves more recognition. Juicy pork, amazing vegetable, perfect sunny side-up, and generous portion. Would order this repeatedly. It‘s a hidden gem.

Stuck in a bit of s rut in Dockland for lunch so decided I need to venture further afield. I came across a familiar name in Pok Pok Junior. I’ve been to the other Pok Pok many times but glad of s chance to try somewhere same same but different. Quite a hidden away location with a range of eateries that isn’t that obvious from Bourke Street. It was a busy wee spot but fortunately take away order was delivered quick pronto and I sat outside and enjoyed.

I ordered Kao Sai Chiang Mai with chicken (basically a coconut based chicken noddle curry). Though mild it did come with a significant number of chillies that could be avoided or blended, as I did. Mouth hummingly good. Plenty of delicious tender chicken and I loved the addition of noddles to the curry, added texture of crunchy noodles over the top. Would definitely come back here again. As service was fast and food was super tasty

Delicious Thai food, conveniently located at St. James courtyard. We started our meal with the Chiang Mai pork sausage, which is a Northen Thai style of sausage. It was spicy and definitely authentic. For mains, we had crispy pork belly with kana (chinese broccoli), pad cha with crispy rocklings and Kao Soi, which is kinda like a laksa but with thai flavours. All the dishes were delicious and we really enjoyed our meal.

The dishes were good and flavoursome. The portions were good as well. The crispy pork belly and the duck noodle soup were awesome. But the highlight for us was the spicy sausage. Full of flavours and packed the heat.

I was pleased to come across this having dined at Pok Pok Docklands many times when I worked nearby. Even more delighted to learn that they do that same massaman lamb shank I remember so fondly. Exceptionally tender and flavoursome. A refreshing coconut juice completed the meal for me

To try:
- penang beef cheek curry, my favourite dish to get from Pok Pok, it makes it hard for me to try the other dishes!
- flat rice noodles, seasoned well and very flavourful
- kao soi chiang mai chicken curry (pictured), a very hearty dish. Beware, portion is huge!

To skip:
- corn fritters, I think they're better described as balls of dough with minimal corn

A lunchtime favourite, Pok Pok always delivers a comforting meal.

I was quite impressed with the meal I got here. I had the Kao Soi Chiang Mai chicken curry as part of a Mealpal meal and it tasted so good. They gave a generous amount of chicken (succulent thigh, with skin), and I felt I could use a lot more noodles for the amount of chicken. The curry was very flavourful and slightly spicy, but not too much that I couldn't enjoy it, even though I don't have a high tolerance for spicy heat. I could have drank a lot more of the curry. There was a tangle of crispy wonton skin strips on top that wasn't very crispy when I got it, but that wasn't really their fault since I collected my food pretty late. Other than that, there were a few bits of vegetables in there but not much else.

The food strikes me as more modern than traditional, but with the taste I'm not complaining. The dish costs $15.50 at full price though, and for that price I probably would have liked a bigger portion (of noodles at least). Other than that I really enjoyed the meal.

Ambience wise, the outlet is packed during lunch as it serves the surrounding office buildings. Again, it has a modern vibe with tables both indoors and outdoors. Nice place to have a meal if you can find a seat.

I've had a couple of meals takeaway with pok pok, it is hit and miss but when they hit - they hit hard.

My favourite by far is the penang beef cheek curry - tender beef, flavourful curry - highly recommend. I also had the chicken rice that I didn't enjoy as much - probably because the beef cheek curry is so good.

A great location catering for the CBD crowd, quick service - worth a visit.

Second iteration of Pok Pok I was keen to try their Junior version because Docklands is so out of the way! We got their Chang Mai sausage (sai ua) to share and it came with of bunch of garnishings which you can pair with the sausage. As described on the menu, I could taste the lemongrass, kaffir lime and chilli which was quite hot!

For my own dish I got one of their special dishes which was crispy pork with noodles. Pork was beautifully fatty and crispy and the egg noodles were on the soft side. Overall it was a sweet dish and I prefer savoury, I also felt it was a little oily.

Still many appetising dishes to try out and is a favourite of nearby office workers.

Came here for lunch with my colleagues. The setting was very nice. The service staff was kind and friendly. The only down side would be the taste. It was slightly sweet probably just not my taste.

Overall experience was nice and comfort.

Will definitely come back again for more items on the menu.

One of the more reliable Thai lunch options in the cbd. All dishes are generously portioned, freshly cooked with spot on authentic flavours that are nicely balanced so you never walk away feeling too heavy for the afternoon session of work. A regular go to for me!

Pok Pok Junior is a Thai restaurant situated in the centre of the busy CBD streets. Located right next to all the offices, this restaurant gets really busy during the lunch time rush.
My colleague and I decided to order the curries- Massaman Lamb Shank Curry and the Green curry. The Massaman curry is certainly an impressive dish. The lamb shank is cooked until it’s tender, where the meat breaks apart so easily, and melts in your mouth.
The Green Chicken with curry was quite good as well. There was plenty of chicken, and curry to go with the rice.
As someone that doesn’t do too well with spicy foods, I would say that both of the curries were a bit too spicy for my liking. Not as mild as other the ones I’ve had at other restaurants, so I would take that into consideration. With that being said, the quality, quantity and taste of the curries were outstanding.

Another lunch time favourite. The food is quick, reasonably priced and the portions are large. I recommend it for a Friday lunch or even for takeaway. The food keeps quite well and is still delicious after a journey in a plastic container. My favourites are the Bangkok noodles and the Krapow Gai Kai Dow.

Service and food is always bang on! Been here multiple times and don’t vary too much from my favourite (wagu beef with broccoli) but have tried a couple of different entrees including corn fritters, dumplings and vegetable spring rolls!

Always fresh, filling and delicious. Have mostly opted for outside seating but have also eaten inside. Quite and attentive waitresses.

Had been here with my work friends for lunch on a sunny day. Wanted to try a new restaurant and should have something good veggie options as well was our criteria and decided to try on this. Although I was very sceptical about the veg food here ordered green curry with vegetables and pine apple fried rice and I must say I was more than happy. Pineapple fried rice was so good with traces of sweet taste that tickles your buds every now and then with rich additions of broccoli, kale and other veggies. Green curry had that rich aroma with fine taste that elated us. Oh and yea those small silver coloured cups for water gave us that traditional touch to the food and ambience.
Loved the service, taste and ambience.

Hear me now. The Dear Luncher has visited the main Pok Pok in Docklands, and he was well impressed. It was now time to see if the junior branch of this particular Thai street food eatery could also impress. Pok Pok Junior is part of a very snazzy mall within 555 Bourke Street – St. James Mall.  The interior/exterior surrounds and decor have managed to successfully meld Thai sensibilities with Melbourne lane-way atmosphere, sort of.

Having tried out the original pok pok in docklands, I finally tried out pok pok junior. The range is quite similar and the vibes is also the same, bustling and busy.

I tried the duck noodles and also the pad thai on the second occasion. The duck noodle is a duck thigh marinated in a dark sweet based soup, similar to that of the bangkok noodles. They used a flat egg noodle. It didn't feel very thai to me but I rather enjoyed the pad thai. Decent serving and lived up to the quality.

My colleagues would recommend the crispy pork belly on rice which is pleasing to the eye. Ice milk tea is also spot on. Pok pok junior doesn't fail to impress, just gotta get in early for a table.

I’ve been here many times and I love this Thai restaurant! It’s perfect for both lunch and dinner. I’ve had a few different dishes (my favourites are their roast pork belly, fried chicken ribs, and the so-refreshingly-tasty coconut ice cream). It helps that they’re centrally located, but food here is simply elegantly delicious and there are just enough varieties to spoil you but not overwhelm you with choices. I like the wooden themed decor and cosy atmosphere of the restaurant, and staff are very friendly also.

Pok Pok Junior, Bourke st Melbourne CBD, cuisine - Thai. This definitely is a favorite in the city for Thai food. However my problem is their very limited vegetarian menu. I think in all 2-3 dishes. Having said that have to give them kudos for flavours, the pad kee mao (spicy drunken noodles) was delicious- the right amount of heat with Thai basil flavour coming through. Very fresh and delightful to eat. So dear @pokpokjnr if you could have more dishes for us vegetarians to enjoy that would be awesome!!! #rating4 #thai #padkeemao #spicydrunkennoodles #freshingredientsonly #flavours #melbournecbd #weekdaylunch #foodieforlife #melbournefoodie #vegetarian #vegbourne #vegetarianrocks #igersmelbourne #melbournebesteats #instablogger #melbourneblogger #foodblogger #foodielife #winterwarmer

We were welcomed in straight away, nice staff and open venue. The dumplings were a little weird and a tad oily. The chicken salad was nice but had to take the skin off fort that was left there as it was un pleasant. But was enjoyed after that as so was the flat rice tofu noodle.

I could literally comment on every menu item (cause I've tried them all!) can't go past the crispy pork belly or chilli Angus beef. However the barramundi in a light batter and the lamb shank curry are also favourites. The dunken noodles are great if you like that spicy hit! The food is always fresh even when there is a bit of a wait over the work lunch hour, it's worth it.

This place is awesome! And the fact that it's in st james, it makes coming here even better because of the live music, lunch crowds and everything in between. Came here for the first time (and I know I'll be coming again and again), had the grilled chicken salad with cucumber, tomatoes etc. It was sooooo tasty. Also had the calamari salad and red curry and they were all so yum. $16 for each food item is a little bit much for my lunch but definitely worth the dollars.

Because it is near my work place, have tried it three times already. It is not the best thai restaurant I have been. The menu could be improved.(You guys should really add Chinese broccoli !) When it is busy, you can wait for your meal more than 30mins.  It is good, but not fantastic.

This restaurant is packed at lunchtime and I can see why.

Today I ordered flat rice noodles w chicken and broccoli (Chinese) and a black sauce for $14. I got take away and it was a generous serve.

It was tasty without being spectacular, but overall a good choice if your looking for good Thai. More sauce would be great.

The waiting time was 5mins for take away X 4 as it turns out haha so I'd only go there of you have time to wait.

I also heard other people being told 5 mins for everything from a table to take away lol but its lunchtime in the city so it's to be expected.

I'll be back lol

Really beautiful and diverse menu which I can't wait to explore a bit more. A mix of classic Thai fare (pad thai, red duck curry, etc.) with some more adventurous dishes (e.g. street noodles with pork crackling). I ordered the latter and whilst I was happy with the dish (generous serving size and price) I found the flavours (read: spice) lacking. Keep that in mind if you can handle even a modicum of heat... and request more chilli. Fair enough given their lunchtime demographic in the heart of corporate West-CBD-land but still disappointing nonetheless.

Will be back!

The Swine is a fan of Pok Pok at Docklands so he chanced his luck on the cbd junior sibling. The Swine had the crispy pok belly which was piggy good. This place has a good range of Thai eats and makes a decent coffee as well. Staff were also very very nice and attentive. Awesome! The Swine wouldn't go as far to say it is the best Thai going around but Pok Pok Junior does tick many boxes to fill these big guts of honest to goodness Thai cuisine!! Definitely worth a look.

I have been visiting this place for just over 3 months for Coffee and a bit of a mid morning snack, but recently I have tried them for lunch!  I have tried their Crispy Pork Belly which would rate among some of the best I have had.  Full of flavour and not too hot that it blows your head off.  But today I tried the Basil and Chill Angus with fried egg and rice.  I have to say, these guys do it right!! The portions are more than adequate and the flaovurs..... WOW!!  Beautiful tender beef and a great fried egg that was still a bit runny, so it oozed into the rice and bought the whole dish together.  Looking forward to seeing what other delights I can uncover in their menu.. watch this space!!

Had a quick lunch here today and ordered one of their lunch specials - chilli basil Angus beef with fried egg on rice. The taste was good and hit the spot but the portion size was not very big. At $16 for the dish I was expecting slightly more. The beef was not tender enough either and rather chewy. The egg was perfect, done exactly the way it should be. It was a nice meal but there are cheaper Thai places in the CBD that offer the same flavours and bigger servings.

DO: The spicy sausage, the drunken noodle, basil chicken, the masaman curry is to die for (bone in) and of course their famous pork belly. Mmm, so fattening.

DON'T: Forget they are more than just a lunch place. Dinner also on offer with easy street parking after 6:30pm clear way from memory.

TIP: With Sake Jnr opening soon, this eating destination including Etto, Doughboy Doughnuts and Simply Spanish make this square a great alternative to the busy Flinders street. Thank you Matt and Em for your hospitality and the professional photos for this review.

2nd visit
Went back again for lunch, this time ordered the stir fried flat noodle, i think it's called pak siew eew, I request extra spicy. I like the fact that wasn't too oily and very well balanced of spiciness.

1st visit
Introduced by a colleague to try out this restaurant, very busy and crowded during lunch time.

Hainamese fried chicken, the fried chicken taste very good and crispy, the rice is full of fragrance, but would to have more ginger in it personally. I also would love to have salad or more greens on side rather than only 3 slices of cucumbers. A little disappointed that they are not using the authentic hainamese chillies sauce, just sweet chillie sauce.

Overall this restaurant is offering more thai dishes and i think is operated by Thai people too. Happy to revisit again to try other dishes.

Pok Pok is situated in St James’ plaza, an open air square between several office buildings that’s home to a number of dining options.

Whilst Pok Pok serves up Western-style breakfasts in the mornings in addition to all day coffee. the lunch menu encompasses a wide selection of hawker-style Thai dishes and there’s almost something available for everyone – plus vegetarian options too. I highly recommend the King Prawn Pad Thai, Pineapple Fried Rice and Massaman lamb curry with roti. In particular, the Massaman lamb curry actually consists of a lamb shank that has been slow cooked in the massaman curry, bringing out a fragrant, hearty flavour that goes perfectly with the crispy roti.

I visit here on a bi-weekly basis and whilst it can get quite busy, I've found the food to generally come out quite quickly so I can easily get in and out for a 1 hour lunch (including a 5-10 walk back to the office).

Pok Pok offers both indoor and outdoor seating and on Fridays, you might also find live music in the plaza.

Great!. The last of the strip of cafes to open in this fabulous little area of the city. I'd been anticipating Pok Pok Junior for some time and went in today to sample what is, in my view, the benchmark dish of whether or not a Thai place is good...the pad thai.
Pok Pok Junior's version was a fabulous interpretation and I'll go so far as to say one of the best I have tried outside of Thailand. The noodles had that wonderful charred flavour from the super-hot wok, the sauce was perfectly balanced, there was a subtle hum of chilli within, and it was served with two very large beautifully grilled king prawns. I've uploaded the menu which looks great - I'll be sure to return soon and do an updated review. They also offer coffee and pastries to appeal to the morning crowd.
Their published information is missing a few details (like opening hours!) so I've emailed them and will update the listing once I get the information.
The fit-out is very appealing and they seemed to be very well organised, serving both the sit-in and take away customers very promptly.

Great Thai food at a reasonable price. Ordered the red coconut curry with duck which also came with a serving of rice. Got a thai milk tea as well. Priced reasonably at $18 for the dish and $5 for the drink. They have a variety of other options on their menu which are cheaper. Great taste and solid serving size. Quite filling. Can easily recommend this dish. Would definitely get the duck with it. Thai milk tea was good as well. A couple friends ordered rice dishes and were still hungry after. Maybe avoid the rice dishes as the serving sizes for them are smaller.
