Review Etto - Melbourne

Donald Yip
One of the best for a quick casual pasta feed. Hasn’t changed much since I first came here in 2013, except prices have gone up a little (still very affordable). Fast service, lots of variety, and pasta made in the store. Not much seating though, can be tough finding a table on a busy day. The portions are quite generous - the carbonara was more than enough for me to skip dinner that same evening!

I have ordered two pizzas from this place. I have ordered from Uber. The pictures added in google showed authentic Neapolitan pizza dough with very bubbly edges. Yet, what we got was not like that at all. Very dense dough which was not even cooked all the way, and believe me no bubbles. A bubbly pizza dough makes it easy to eat and digest. On top of that, the cheese was super chewy like gum, truly like gum. See my photos.

friend of mine wanted pasta for dinner, but the one in the city are closed, so we came to south melbourne’s outlet. there is no pizza today which is a shame, but the aglio olio tasted good, the portion was pretty amazing, carbonara taste nice. those noodle cooked perfectly, there is some texture. outdoor sitting was nice, perfect day for it

yum! ordered via uber eats - smokey bacon and persian feta - salami and olive pizza - carbonara each dish was a hit - we were so eager to eat the carbonara we completely missed the reheat instructions!! still really good tho. ate it before we could get a pic 😝

I just ordered cheese and truffle pizza and some mini chocolate bombolone. After i opened the box the overall presentation was satisfactory. After i taste and was eating it took me 10mins to finish one slice honestly because the dough was so bad and freaking chewy. The pizza was stone cold.I dont know why it was so chewy may be because of lack of yeast while making the dough or may be because the pizza box was away from the hot surface after it was ready.I literally had just 2 slice of pizza and threw the rest over.Talking about the delivery,i got the delivery in the right estimated time however the cold pizza made my day worst.Anyway thanks!

I've never been this disappointed in a meal before! I ordered Etto off Uber Eats as I've had a pretty good experience at the Malvern branch however the food South Melbourne had delivered me was absolutely inedible. The dough of the pizza was complete raw, wet and stone cold! It just shocks me that someone looked at this pizza and thought it was suitable for boxing up and delivering for consumption. I'm so disappointed - I really hope you can review this incidence and make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else!

Fantastic service and fantastic pasta. The matriciana sauce was perfect spice with fettuccini pasta. Spinach and ricotta ravioli with bolognese sauce was very flavoursome. Will order again soon!
Umie
Absolutely pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and service here! It appears more like a "cookie cutter" store however the food was prepared to perfection. Didn't get a chance to finish it all as we ran out of time, but will definitely be back!!!

I’m a huge fan of Etto! Nine times out of ten it’s a delicious experience, although I have to say on this occasion I was significantly let down. The carbonara was obviously not fresh, though also undercooked and accompanied by an incredibly watery and oily sauce. It arrived lukewarm, it was almost unbearably salty, the bacon was chopped abhorrently in large pieces and to top it off the herbed breadcrumbs were also left off. I’m wondering what the cause of this huge disparity in quality is. I’m not upset so much as I am disappointed, and deeply concerned.....

Pretty good! Was great for takeaway pasta. The salmon and caper pasta was delicious. However, paid for half zucchini in the spicy sausage and feta one but not even a 1/4 of it was zucchini.

Had the gnocchi carbonara with chicken and was not disappointed. Huge serving and very tasty. Nice fresh cooked pasta place with lots of variety
Anastasia B
Generous serving size, unfortunately both pasta sauces were so so rich and really just tasted of oil and cream. The pasta and gnocchi itself were okay but the texture of the dish was so thick and almost paste-like rather than in a sauce. Would love to see an improvement.

I don't know I tried bolognese few times in other places but here bolo was like a semi_tomato soup, watery. Maybe it's just me but spaghetti was also.. I don't know whether they make by themselves or not but it was like a white instant spaghetti.. not for me..
One of my favourite places to hang out on Sundays. There’s not usually a lot of customers when I visit but sometimes I like to go to a place to chill with friends where there are not too many people. I do see many takeaway drivers coming to pick up orders though.

I love the spaghetti bolognese. The plate looks shallow but there’s quite a lot inside. Definitely bang for your buck!
Hello. Imnikki
4.5

Etto has always been my go-to when I'm in the area for delicious and filling Italian food, and what really impress me is that it has always been consistent throughout.

I don't think there's a time when I have not ordered the black truffle and salami sauce, and mix and match it with different type of pasta. The piquant and funky aroma and taste of the truffle, paired with the savoury and spicy kick from the salami is absolutely stunning.

Recently I tried the bacon and leek macaroni and cheese and I may have a new favourite. So cheesy, so rich and definitely not shy on flavours.

The pizza and garlic bread are a pleasure to eat too, but are no match for the pasta here. The pasta, on the majority of occasion that I have been here, are cooked to perfection so I'm definitely sticking with them always.

This place is quite small and can get very busy, but the wait times have always been reasonable. Street pasta really describe Etto perfectly - good value for money, delicious and fuss-free feed for all.

This place is not very fancy. There are only few sitting tables. But this place is very busy for takeaways and delivery. There were back to back delivery pickups. They have plenty of options to mix and match with pasta sauces. We ordered garlic bread and pesto Gnochi. Food was really good and soft on the pocket too.
JaneDoeEats
Good place for a quick pasta fix. Not many vegetarian sauce options. I am a red sauce lover so I went for the Roma Tomato Napoli. The portion size is good I was full till evening.
Tessa
I had the papardelle with bolognese ragu. Absolutely delicious! Food was served quickly and piping hot. Will definitely return for a pasta fix
Tannar Stevens
The Pizza is so bad avoid it, the base is soggy and is like bread dough it peels off like pull apart bread from bakers delight, but the pasta is yum and so is the garlic bread .
Sallyyang1988
Great food and service, was fast and price is reasonable, their staff is very friendly, tasty pasta, convenient location next to coles I will come back again
Crabapples For Lunch
Pretty nice pasta here with the ability to mix and match sauces and pasta. Their pasta is done better than other Italian places like some of the ones on Lygon street, but I've never found it to be mind-blowing. That said, part of the reason may be that I usually do takeaways or deliveries so that naturally affects the texture of the pasta.

The ingredients used are pretty nice and more on the 'higher-end' side of things like truffle and so on, but I don't find the ingredients particularly generous for their asking prices. If you're a fan of pappardelle, this is one of the few places I've seen that include that as one of the pastas you can mix and match with. The pizzas are also quite flavourful but again I find them less than generous with their topping ingredients. Some would argue that's how traditional Italian pizza is served, but I say the cost of the toppings should inform the cost of the dish.

Overall, in my opinion slightly low of the value for money side of things, but it can be a good place to try as an alternative to fancier Italian places that are costlier, especially if you dine in.
Birdman
Absolutely love this style of pasta joint where you basically build the pasta you want. Went with the fettuccine basil pesto with a dash of cream and added chicken. Cooked to order it was so fresh and yum, came out straight away and the people working there very friendly. Only improvement could be serve it with a slice of bread for moppage.
Vanessa Tran
Don't think I'll be going anywhere else when I'm craving fresh made pasta. Was an entirely different experience. Do not underestimate this place, it may be a fast food Italian pasta bar, but it will amaze you. Staff were friendly. Safe to say, I feel like I've been living under a rock, until I ate pasta from here.

No exaggeration, you just need to try it for yourself

Was craving some Italian foods and while browsing through Zomato I found this little beauty here. Decided to check it out because of the high rating and was not disappointed!

Ordered the Mushroom&Feta pizza and the Black Truffle and Salami pasta with extra mushroom - damn man! Never thought quick pasta would taste great but this store definitely changed my mind. Everything blended and tasted really good! Relatively cheap and the portion was huge! Walked away with full bellies - LOVE!
MeganEatsEverything
The pasta portion is humongous here, worth the money (size and taste wise). The spicy Italian sausage linguine and the carbonara were very flavourful and creamy. As for the sides, I got the garlic bread which I recommend, to eat while still fresh because it gets tough and soggy towards the end. The service was really great, friendly cashier!
The New Fave
'How good can fast food pasta be?' i hear you ask. Well, pretty darn good if you're heading to Etto Italian Street Pasta in South Melbourne. And no, I'm not turning to blogging about a fast food joint because I'm out out of classier content - I actually thought my experience at Etto's was worth sharing as it was so incredibly delicious.
Nomafoodic Chipineats
Very good pasta. Quick service and friendly staff as well. The truffle oil and salami fettuccine was amazing, 3 cheeses gnocchi also very interesting!

We went to the South Melbourne Etto Pasta Bar a couple of weeks ago. We have been to all 3 Etto Pasta Bar outlets and have enjoyed some lovely meals at each one. This one is located in the heart of South Melbourne and great for a quick meal on a lunch break at work. The quality in each Etto Pasta Bar is the same and they have nailed the franchising model. Meals are set at an affordable price with decent serving sizes.
Ryan Jinn Huei
A little corner shop at South Melbourne.

Tried the Spicy Italian Sausage and Carbonara w the double cheese Garlic bread. Foods better than average, portion size is decent as well. Value for money!
Fitzy_2313
Too expensive for what it is, took 40 minutes, didn't know I had even placed an order online, bad customer service, average pasta at best, line was long while one guy tried to serve the other was sitting eating sushi.

For where it is I highly recommend going to the many other places to eat around it.
The Hand That Bites
According to The Urban List | Melbourne, this is one of the best carbonara dishes in the city. It's from Etto Pasta Bar in South Melbourne. I'm not sure if it's the best yet, as it's the only one I've tasted here. However, it did not disappoint! The sauce was thick, creamy and flavoured with garlic crème. The carbonara was also loaded with smoky pancetta and I added extra mushrooms. The pasta was cooked al dente, which added extra bite to every mouthful.
ZzzPpl
Good and cheap food. I like the pesto! Service is good. Basically you need to help yourself except ordering. It would be perfect if they can serve bigger plate.
Heidi
Checked out Etto in South Melbourne for a quick early dinner. Whilst the meals were nice themselves and the garlic bread was good, one of our pastas wasn't very hot. The pasta was cooked through but the sausage was a little cold. I asked them to heat it up more but it still didn't do the trick.

Used to dine here for lunch when I worked around the area. Quick and tasty pasta with a lot of creative modern variation to choose from. The place is quite cozy as well.

Came here and luckily people had just left for us to get a seat on a Saturday. Absolutely delicious, fresh, flavoursome and lovey service!!!
Mi55Bee
One of the most delicious fresh pesto pasta ive ever had! well seasoned and filled with homely aromatic basil with grated parmesan cheese, ive added sauteed mushrooms for an extra bite and it was perfect!
Melody.mt.tang
Love fresh pasta 🍝💕
Ordered meatballs for entree but found it a bit over cooked...
However the pasta was really good
The truffle 🍟 was perfect 😋
Want to be back to try the pizza 🍕

If you are reading this, and you genuinely care about receiving an honest review, here it is -

Etto is completely overrated and i suggest you spend your money elsewhere.
Meals ordered - gnocchi 3 cheese & fettuccine meatballs

Gnocchi - the gnocchi tasted like they were straight from the packet, sauce lacked flavour and was almost soup like.

Fettuccine - The pasta itself was great but, the sauce tasted like it was straight off the shelf from safeway, the meatballs tasted heavily processed & by no means homemade and to put it in perspective, the meatballs at subway taste better.

To conclude, its actually rather insulting to associate this place with the words 'italian' & 'pasta'.
Aleenoz12
Hidden gem serving delicious Italian pasta and pizza. Three of us shared truffle & parmesan cheese chips, truffle and mushroom mac & cheese, spicy Italian sausage & feta with spinach and ricotta ravioli and smoked salmon & capers fettuccine. The food was more scrumptious with each bite. Service was quick and staff were great. Will certainly visit again!
A Girl With Curves
Absolutely best pasta in Melbourne hands down. So fresh and tasty! I had the pesto spaghetti and it was to die for! I love that when I ordered and the lady asked if I’d like Parmesan, I said “lots” and so when she served the pasta, she served it with a side of Parmesan! Great food! Great service! It’s a must try!
Ilovefoodsomuch
Small pasta restaurant in South Melbourne my favourite is the truffle salami pasta here! You can choose from many different types of freshly made pasta here to go with your sauce
Allyssa Woon
too pricey with the portion, and the sauces somehow are always a lil too blend thankful for the black pepper and chilli flakes on the side to make it taste better
Daniel Livingstone
Etto is my partner and my favourite home delivery comfort food in the south Melbourne area (have racked up some serious Ubereats miles!... Seriously tasty and honest pasta and pizza that always hits the spot, definitely recommend the Mac n cheese bakes, spaghetti carbonara with quality smoky bacon and the garlic bread...
Always great to find a local that makes consistently tasty, quality food. 👍
Gazeats
So this has to be the most over rated place on zomato.. this is such average pasta with bland sauce.. the price they ask for is ridiculous. I can only recommend staying away from this place it will save you money and frustration. If you walk past the store, feel free to boo them.
Lsph
Absolutely love the pine nuts with the basil pesto pasta! It's great that the pastas are customisable too. Limited seating at the South Melbourne store but the fresh pasta is great if you manage to snag a seat :)
Jimbotr
Garlic bread was bloody great, pretty hard to muck up generally!

Carbonara was dry, bland and the pasta way over cooked.

Won't be back anytime soon

Nice local takeaway pizza and pasta joint. Can be a bit inconsistent due to the change in staff leaving some of my experiences with a very watery and overlooked bowl of pasta to a perfectly sauced al dente pasta. Some are just plain rude (had a younger girl there who just didn't care) and some are quite charming (older gentleman). I understand in the f and b industry it can be hard to find good staff so I won't hold it against them. I eat and order takeaway from here regularly and will continue to do so. Just hope I don't get the wrong staff on the day I decide to eat.

I’ve had a mix of experiences with Etto across Melbourne, with the South Melbourne one being my usual go to due to proximity to my now former office. The menu is mostly pasta, wholly customisable, as well as other Italian treats and sides. On the restaurant side of pricing for street pasta, but it comes quick and with good service. I was quite a fan of the carbonara from my first visit – perfectly creamy, cheesy, the right treat for a cold afternoon in. My last visit I picked up the Black truffle and Salami ($19) which I wasn’t quite as enamoured with. The pasta wasn’t fully hot on this occasion and the butter was a bit of a pool. Much too splashy for my liking. The extra chicken was worth it and it was a more than filling lunch fix with it in the mix. Also, they seem perpetually out of the gnocchi option, which makes me sad.

Delicioussss, fresh ingredients. I was really hanging for pasta and this place delivered. I had bolognase with chilli and it tasted almost like home, maybe a tiny bit too much oil. Excited to try more.
Who Loves Good Food
Nice little pasta & pizza eatery. Limited seating. They probably do more takeaways & deliveries. Service was great, offering more Parmesan without us asking. Loved the truffle & Parmesan chips! We had meatballs, spicy Italian sausage & feta and black truffle & salami. Will come back for the pizzas.
George David Michaelides
Don't let the photo put you off this is pasta in a box turned upside down !! This place makes some tasty pasta ! Favourites here are the truffle oil spaghetti and the classic bolognaise, top quality pasta that's always available and takeaway too perfect for winter
Jsfood
Definitely wont be rushing to come back. We Ordered Black truffle salami and smoked salmon capers.
+ Pasta was very fresh and well cooked
- Price point is way to high for portion size, and you barely get any meat! They take ages to serve your meal, we waited asked to wait for 1 hour and there were only 3 tables before us. The place itself is very small, dont come in peak hour as there are limited seats.
Yourmelbournefoodguide
Cheap and delicious, recommend for a casual meal. We got the chicken cacciatore pasta with added bacon and the shredded chicken salad, which was absolutely delicious! Everything you want out of a healthy option. Staff were also friendly
Miss Lil Lil
Chicken Cacciatore with fusilli and Spicy Italian Sausage. I give mine a 10/10. Going to go back and try the pesto. Cute little place for a quick lunch and good price. Very fresh too.
Hungry Hieu
The photos says it all - fresh pasta made daily served in delicious sauce using simple ingredients but bursting with flavours. We came here on a Tuesday night, place was not busy (physically) but definitely popular with patrons entering every few minutes for take away, and the phone constantly buzzing for orders. Staff was friendly, smiley, and service was prompt. We can see the staff make each plate of pasta individually making each plate unique. The pizza was definitely a hit as well; fresh, hot, saucy, crispy thin crust, and covered in salami (not your average salami) to boast. Highly recommend dine in if you want to experience everything that Etto have to offer.
Good pasta. Not great (at its price I was expecting more), but definitely not too shabby either. I had carbonara fussili and I was quite happy with the pasta. The bacon looked darker than normal for some reason and the sauce was a tad too watery for me. Service was faster that I expected though probably because it wasn't busy at that time.
Vincent Ng
Really poor customer service. Left me standing at the counter waiting to be served while the staff chatted with each other and prepared the food. After paying almost $15 for a bowl of pasta I was disappointed at the miserable serving size. Definitely not value for money.
Kevin Setiadi
It's inside the Clarendon Centre, so it's a very convenient place to have a meal when you go out to do grocery shopping at Coles. The pasta is just okay, not really amazing but it's good enough for a quick meal.

Ambience is relaxed like the rest of Clarendon St. Service is reasonably quick.
Tony
Loved the idea of this place so I organised work crew. I ordered spiral pasta with meatballs. The composition of meatballs to pasta was way out of whack. Overall ok, however do not share sentiment of others. Pasta was a bit cold? Not in a hurry to go back☹️
Good Food Good Mood
There is actually nothing like fresh pasta. I've eaten here a couple of times now and also grabbed takeaway on several occasions and it's always delicious. I usually get the Roma tomato Napoli or the basil pesto fettuccine but you can mix and match sauces and pastas to your hearts content. It's a small casual spot but you will receive hearty portions not artfully placed restaurant portions. Thoroughly recommend
Hungry Hippo
One of my favourites on a lazy night. The pastas are hand made and done well.

Two defaults are the carbonara and bolognese. You can't go wrong. The amatricana, prawn and pea as well as the truffle ones are are also my go tos.

When ordering do ask for the herbed breadcrumbs. The best!
Anna V
The photo says it all. I'm not sure how this place is rated so high. I suppose I expected at least one chef to be present. From the bags of sauce, tiny frozen prawns to the hard Gnocci and kraft Parmesan. Never again.
Elsa Doe
Pretty decent bolognese, saucy without it being too tomato pastey, pasta cooked al dante and spice level included in the cooking! Great pizzas great service I think I've found my fav Italian place near our home now love it
Bree
My favourite pasta place in Melbourne! Recently, I've been ordering the ragu bolognese, it is delicious! I also really like the salami truffle pasta. Their pizzas are also delicious - I love the prosciutto one! The chips are also amazing! The salads are delicious - both the chicken pesto and artichoke ones are my favourite! I love ordering this for my work lunches the next day. Basically everything here is amazing! Can't fault it. They also deliver, which can be dangerous!
Hungry Ronin
Sub-par bolognese sauce, smelled and tasted artificial and bland, although the three cheeses was okay. Pasta was cooked al dente and seemed fresh. Cute little place and well meant concept, but nothing outstanding in execution. Menu seemed to stretch its own boundaries with thin crust pizza and salad and others thrown in as an afterthought. Seemed too dubious, didn't want to waste my money to even try.
Juan Carlos Barragán Quintero
Food comes frozen in containers and they just heat it when you order. My pasta had the shape of the container as if it were been stored for ages. The extra size is supposed to have 50% more but the portion is really small. Please never ever order take away food from here, you will be really frustrated. (Ordered using UberEats)
Richard Dsouza
Its a crime to serve such good pasta. Ordered bolognese on rigatoni pasta and the food was delicious. Thanks for the food guys. Good pasta, good sauce and good quantity. It was delivered by Uber eats and had to microwave it bit. I'll be definitely visiting next time around.

I had given this restaurant a 5 star for their pasta. But their pizza was absolutely disaapointing. Ordered a hot salami pizza today. Everything was wrong abt the pizza. Bread was not fresh. Sauce quatity was so much that the toppings were just swimming in it. Salami was disgusting and the olives again were probably really old too. Sorry guys, i dont know if u have a new person in the kitchen who screwed it up so bad that i only ate 2 pieces and chucked the rest in the bin. Did not expect this quality from you. :(
Billy Runtung
My favourite pasta bar, and have been ordering at least once a week especially the black truffle and salami with mushroom ravioli with the extras (parmesan, breadcrumbs and tuna). Never disappointed when ordering here.
All About Food
Came back for their pasta almost every week !! Probably more than 10 times now. Love their pasta and always crave for it!! Keep up good worksEtto!!! Only my concern is that Ettto opening hours. From 12pm?!?! Maybe if you could open earlier ... Well. Please bring back the anchovies menu!!!!
Krisdeep
Inflated price , Ordered with chicken breast for an extra +3 dollars which comes to a total of 17 dollars !! Hardly any pieces of meat. Not worth the price .... Very disappointed.
Tony
I like Etto.

My favourite would be the black truffle & salami on fettuccine. The truffle & parmesan chips are also delicious, as is the classic margherita thin-crust pizza. Very affordable too!
Minh Thuy Le
Came here tonight for a quick late dinner before heading out to the club on a Saturday night. We ordered a range of pasta dishes (carbonara fettucine, mushroom and leek ravioli in napoli, gnocchi in spicy napoli, gnocchi carbonara, spaghetti bolognese and gnocchi in a white sauce with smoked salmon and capers) , chips and pizza (proscuitto & gorgonzola).
Portion sizes were great, pasta was cooked just a little over al dente (which is what I prefer) and food tasted great. Service was pretty quick as well even though there was about 8 of us there.
Pizza is served in a rectangular shape with a very thin base, but crisp and very tasty.
Everyone enjoyed their meals.
Couchfoodie
Came here last night for a quick dinner with the bf. We ordered a spaghetti meatball pasta, a pappardelle carbonara and the truffle parmesan fries.
The meatball pasta was alright although I think the pasta may have been a bit over cooked as it was a little stuck together, even with the sauce through it. The carbonara was ok as well. The fries were really nice and crispy with more than enough flavours of parmesan and truffle.
Food was ok... I think for the price you get a good serving.. if I try it again I'd like to see what the other flavours offer.
Gina
Ordered on Deliveroo after a quick search to satisfy my sudden race for a red pasta. Happy with the food getting and it was delivered within 35 mins. Not cheap based on the serve but taste worth it.
JZY
pasta界的快餐,简单便宜,适合快速吃个便饭,但不是可以带来味蕾享受的那种。
The MacDonald in pasta world. Fast and reasonable price. Don’t expect the tastes too much.
RRJosh
Mixed feelings - first pizza I got from there, I picked up and it was delish. We got a home delivery order last week and it was disappointing. Four olives on one pizza, two basil leaves torn up into quarters on the other and hardly any cheese on the margherita. We also paid for mushrooms on one but didn't get them. Understand traditional pizzas are not loaded with ingredients but this was just stingy. Not sure what the issue was but we were really disappointed! This may have been an off day for them as all the other reviews seem positive but we wont' be rushing back. On a positive note I've had coffee from here a few times and it's always been on point.
LittleM
Went in for late lunch after church service in a Sunday, it wasn't busy then. Good pasta at a reasonable, big serving and it was a struggle to finish my smoked salmon and capers dish but I did!! ✌
Adrian
Hi Etto,

As a long term customer I am disappointed to continually see your prices increase. I went into Etto today to see your menu have increase to another $1. Also my favourite dish Aglio E Olio has been taken off the menu!
Gemma Dittmar
Tried their new delicious creamy prawn and pea pasta today. The prawns were bursting with flavour and you can tell that why were fresh, I loved the little chilli kick too. The serving sizes are perfect and you can't go past the crunchy garlic bread, it's the best I've ever had. Yum, yum, yum!!
David Lew
Reasonable sized serve of linguini aglio e olio. Lovely flavour, fresh basil, bitey parmesan, the right amount of chilli kick for an Italian meal, and the pasta was cooked el dente. Can't really ask for more. Oh wait, I can - let's have it for $10 thanks, with quick and friendly service. Now that's value for money.
M&M
Consistent and affordable for quick & non nonsense pasta. This is our go to place whenever we are in the area. Great for eat in. For takeout, only good if you live close by. If you have to transport more than 15mins by car - reheated meals not the same!
J88
Authentic homemade healthy Italian pasta.. I had the prawn and pea w creamy sauce and it was delicious and hearty lunch. Though it was little bland and needed some salt, it is definitely an honest and healthy Italian pasta. Really loved the texture of their pasta and value for money, big thumbs up!
Lulu T. Legrand
MY DISH
I had the special of the day, the white lemony pasta with prawns and peas. I wasn't expecting much, to be honest, but the pasta was good. My linguine were cooked al dente and the sauce was really tasty; the level of zestiness was just right, not too overpowering and perfect to complement the prawns. A very satisfying dish. The only thing I found a bit off was that my linguine were stuck together, something that usually happens when one uses not enough water to boil them, so the pasta strips get stuck and mashy, even when al dente. It makes them harder to roll on the fork, and they never look as nice or fresh.

YES
+ Location location. Just half-included in the Claremont Shopping centre. Perfect to have a meal and do your errands or vice versa.
+ Lovely seating area outside.
+ Unpretentious place. They don't pretend to be authentic or the last big thing, just a pasta bar, and do a good job a what they do.
+ Fresh pasta prepared every day. You choose the pasta you want with the sauce your want. Suit yourself.
+ They have specials of the day.
+ Good portion sizes. You won't leave hungry.
+ Gluten free pasta available.
+ They have a large selection of Pellegrino and Emma & Tom's drinks beyond the other usual cold drinks.

OK
= Very small seating area inside.
= Matter of fact staff and service.
= Pricing.

NO
- Terrible coffee.

I'll be back.
Kiss And Eat Up
Love the menu here and the fact that they do kids sizes of pasta for $10! This is perfect given their generous serving sizes and for small eaters like me. Was very happy with my spaghetti Al crudo with anchovy and chilli pesto. Cooked Al dente and topped with cheese and breadcrumbs. Great value for money and a fresh variety of pasta at a great price point. Service was friendly and will definitely be returning to try their pizzas.

Everyone has them – those days when all you crave is a cheeky carb fest – and there’s nothing more comforting or satisfying than a big bowl of delicious pasta. But in Melbourne, affordable and high-quality Italian food is few and far between. Etto is the exception to the rule, and has been my go-to restaurant for pasta for almost 2 years.

There are currently 3 locations in Melbourne, and the South Melbourne branch is my favourite. Located along Clarendon Street, it’s housed amongst a number of other popular restaurants, although there’s no missing the bright yellow sign at the entrance
Teomelvin39
Food: The black truffle and salami pappardelle turned out better than expected. It was al dente with texture variability from the crumbs, pasta etc. As the salami was served round, i would prefer it shredded to get every mouthful of pasta:meat ratio. Lastly, I assumed the salami was cooked in boiling water and then added to the pasta at the end. Overall, it was a great place for budget conscious like myself.

Drink: Can't go wrong with Emma's & Tom's cloudy apple.

Service: Mediocre with a smile.
John Isaac
Etto, my local pasta place. Can never fault it. The wagyu meatball is absolutely brilliant. I usually go for the standard napoli which never fails to please. The servings are generous and the service is always great. The interior isn't the most spacious but it doesn't really matter. Nancy and I have had pretty much everything on the menu and she's a sucker for the garlic bread, which is delicious but you may want to hold off if you're going out later.

You can pay over $30 for a pasta entree at a high end restaurant in town or have a pasta dish at Etto for less than half the price but double the serving. This is simple, fast pasta the way it should be and the sauces are spot on too.

On a nice sunny day, sit outside and watch life on Clarendon St pass you by.

Posted a photo of the pizza.

I dropped by for a quick lunch a few weeks ago with two other friends and we all ordered the pasta of the day. I believe it was slow cooked bolognese with fusilli. I can't really remember the price but if I'm not wrong, it was about $8 for their pasta of the day. Fusilli was al dente and the minced beef was satisfying too. Best of all, the staff were really friendly and filled with smiles. The portion size was just nice for a starving girl who hadn't had food the whole morning. Overall, it was a great experience dining there.

The place to be in if you're looking for some good quality, reasonably priced, fast-served pasta dishes with no complications. I had the pappardelle with italian meatballs. I can taste the freshness of the pasta, cooked al dente accompanied with good meatballs and a touch of parmesan on top. Yum.

Etto has spectacular customer service. Having a full day and many errands to run, I was late to pick up my pre-ordered lunch. By the time I arrived it was cold so the guys at Etto re-made the dish at no extra cost and sent me away with a fresh, hot, amazing pasta. Thanks Guys!

If you're looking for no fuss pasta this is the place to be. Freshly made pasta with a variety of sauces to choose from, you'll always be happy. Definitely a must!

One afternoon a few weeks ago I thought to myself, ” You know what? It has been a while since I have had good pasta. Like really good pasta…”. That thought lead me to do a bit of searching and that search lead me to Etto. I wanted a pasta meal, not a pretty bowl with 4 pieces of ravioli in it, a la trend in Melbourne at the moment.

What a great idea, to have a take away pasta place! Service was a bit slow, and it wasn't necessarily that busy, but the pasta was cooked perfectly with great flavors. I Would definitely return again:)

Quick, awesome pasta. So many different options and they are always willing to make adjustments to orders. Their spelt pasta is really good.

Have been going here for a while and the last three times I've been so disappointed!
New staff each time I'm there! Pasta is tasteless and no flavour! Come on guys get your shit together! Make the pasta we are used to otherwise you will lose customers!!

Wonderfully fresh pasta. This is the real deal! The sauces are delicious and creative. Salami and truffle- so delicious! The prices are really great value. The servings are big. Plus the staff are friendly. Etto is new destination for great pasta!

Melbourne visitor. My first ever day in Melbourne - I read some reviews and headed to Etto's.
I'm in my 60's and having a bit of time to myself for eating, drinking, walking and painting.
I made a very good choice!
The 2 people behind the counter were a breath of fresh air - so helpful.
I'm from the Blue Mountains (NSW) & we have quite a few good Italian eateries, HOWEVER, Etto's wins hands down!
I had fusilli and a beer - so good.

I'm hoping to get back before I go home, to try a pizza,
Also, prices are very reasonable.
Well done guys.

Best wishes, Alison.

All this (worthy) praise of their pasta-but how has no one mentioned their amazing pizzas yet? Ordered a Margarita Pizza to accompany my cream basil peso rigatoni (which was spot on), and WOW. Potentially the best pizza I have ever had. So light, yet SO tasty! Well played guys. Well played. Big thumbs up.

On our last day in Melbourne, York took me to a very nice Italian place in South Melbourne called “Etto Italian Street Pasta” . The place was 20 minutes walk from the place we stayed (we stayed at Crown Metropolis within the Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex). Even though the store was small, it was packed with people dining inside and mainly takeaways. The place mainly does pastas, but they also pizzas as well. Basically you choose the taste of sauce you want and then select the pastas, it was tough for me since I love pastas and there seemed to be unlimited combinations! The fresh in-house pasta and people constantly lining up. At the end we decided on “Black Truffle and Salami with crunchy herb breadcrumbs and Chilli Linguini” and “Waygu meatball Polpette- 100% Waygu mini meatballs in a Roma tomato napoli sauce topped with crunchy herb breadcrumbs and Spinach Linguini”. The food came out pretty quick and I instantly fell in love with the pasta! It tasted so good, many Italian r

David from Etto invited us to come back for lunch and I must say their food is amazing. As he suggested, I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara. The dish was very nicely...
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
I’ve been wanting to try Etto ever since it opened. The concept of fresh, handmade pasta cooked to order and in a quick, casual manner was very appealing. First you pick the sauce, the serving size, then the pasta. Pizza and sides like garlic bread, salads and wagyu polpette are also available. There isn’t a lot of seating inside, but they cater for takeaway too.

Writing this review while we still trying to eat this disaster of a meal, both ordered ravioli and both plates came out extremely undercooked. an Italian pasta shop that can't cook pasta. the ravioli has texture of cardboard.. can't be stuffed returning it as there was a line, deal with the loss and know to never come back here again.

Had take away tonight. Took a little while but was really delicious. Staff were really apologetic for the muck up. Would go back
One Bite Too Many ...
Worse than expected!. We ordered takeaway from here and had a Rigatoni Amatriciana, Spaghetti Carbonara and Garlic Bread. The food was less than ordinary - the carbonara was gluggy, pancetta not rendered and bland tasting. The pasta itself which is supposed to be their specialty was overcooked and a box of barilla pasta tastes better. The Amatriciana sauce was ok but inedible due to the mushy pasta. Overall it was abysmal and I would never go back - you would be better off making your own at home.
