Classic pub meals and good beer and wine menu. Lots of space for groups, and does split bills which is handy.

Yummy Fisherman's Basket and great burger!
The only drawbacks were that the some of the fried foods in the fisherman's basket were a bit too oil-soaked. And some weren't seasoned, but nothing a bit of salt from the shaker could fix. However overall, a great way to satisfy all fish n chips cravings!
The burger - you get what you expect when you order a burger! I love chips, and these chips did not disappoint :)
Never had a meal but it's a nice pub to come for a drink. Laid back and very casual. Toilets could be a bit cleaner but other than that a nice place for a drink.
I've been to a the castle a couple times. You can eat in the bar or the restaurant area. Wait service in the restaurant no fast but good when they do attend you. Their specials Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are good value. I had the $22 Thursday special ribs which were good but not amazing. I could do with some cut lemon in water but this is not a fine dining restaurant! Food wise i'd say the Castle is in between a gastro pub and a regular pub. I'm happy to eat here but i don't seek it out.
This place has a great atmosphere and fantastic food. Service is great and the steaks are to die for. Grog is a little pricey but, goes down well. Would recommend this place for great food.

Parmasofmelbourne. This faithful monday night parma night led us to The Castle Hotel in North Melbounre. This area of North Melbourne has an abundance of incredible pubs such as the Leveeson, Metro Hotel and of course the Castle Hotel. The castle hotel is an impressive decked out renovated pub that hosts a sports bar and dining area. The 4 of us knights took our seats in the dining area, hoping to have a parma fit for the kings.
Upon ordering our parmas, we noticed the castle uses organic free range chicken which was a good sign.
20 minutes and our parmas were in front of us.
These birds were similar to the lord newry hotel in the sense that they were deceptively huge. These things were big in circumference and incredibly thick.
We cannot stress how good the quality of breast was. The top quality free range chicken definitely shined through on the dish.
It was also cooked to absolute perfection which gave it a nice crunch. This is definitely the best quality breast that has ever touched our mouths.
The napoli was A+. Home made and quite tasty even though it got lost at times in amongst the thick breast.
The ham was nice and tasty and definitely made its prescience known.
The cheese seemed to be your standard mozzarella but jeez it was soft and tasty. Grilled to perfection.
The chips were quite a let down. Standard bland , unseasoned pub chips that didn’t do much for the dish, they were just there. Luckily we had some sweet aoli to smother the chips in. In saying that, the chips were still wiped clean off the plate.
The salad was absolutely delicious. Dressed very well.
The castle hotel offers up one of the best parma’s Melbourne has to offer. If only the castle hotel used better quality tasting chippies, this would of definitely been a competitor for the #1 position in Melbourne overall and a possible 10/10. The parma itself is pretty much a perfect specimen. We honestly can’t wait to hit this place up again for a mammoth feed. For $22 its a parma everyone should jump on their horse and trot down for. A parma definitely fit for kings.

I always liked The Castle as a pub – it’s in a great location and has a fantastic vibe inside. With plenty of room in the dining area, a less formal lounge area for bar snacks and a spacious sports bar with big screen, pool tables and a couple of couches – Which is why I was so bitterly dissappointed with the parma we tried last time. Hoping that they’ve lifted their game, we checked the menu -
Oh wow! Best pub food we have ever had. There was four of us who all had spot on meals. The waitresses were so lovely too! Highly highly recommend the Castle Hotel
Getting better by the day. I have visited this place a couple of times over the past few years and it had always been fairly dismal. However I'm pleased to report improvement over the past few months, it's becoming a really comfortable locals pub with good food and selection of beers & ciders, with relaxed but attentive service. I'm really pleased and hope the improvement continues.

Came for a night out with two mates, meet by very friendly staff and seated quickly. I had the baby back ribs and my friends has the fillet mignon which looked superb. The ribs where incredible with just the right amount of heat that left a great flavour in the mouth. Can't talk highly enough of this place.

A place for champions. Had a great evening in this fine establishment, great food, superb service and cheap drinks. We had the Parma, a burger and ribs.
The parma was perfectly cooked and looked fantastic as it arrived at the table with steak fries and a crisp salad, couldn't fault it.
The burger according to my companion was juicy with plenty of flavour, served on a bamboo board with a bowl of chips.
The ribs were falling off the bone and a real hearty, solid pub meal.
would we be back, in a heartbeat, the staff were friendly, knew the menu and the food was quick.

Like it only, just, ok, not good. North melbourne pubs are a stark contrast to what a pub should be, now they are polished floor boards, bib tv screens, stirs, large windows and casual staff.Really have missed the mark as to what a pub is, where was the fire place, the ambiance?
Sat down for the 25 dollar steak lunch special, waited, waited, waited, finally a waitress came to take my order, for the steak.
She was friendly and knowledgable but there were two of them and only two tables of patrons, me and a table of 4.
Strange smell of cleaning fluids not good.
The food??.......at 25 dollars, a fairly good 250 gram steak, was cooked well, juicy, tasty, nice flavours reflecting a good chef and sliced.( i would prefer my steak un sliced for a lunch special and this was odd, maybe in an effort to conceal the small size. With nice vegies sliced in a sauce.
but i walked out owing 34 dollars for the lunch as they have no carlton on tap, i ordered the Hoegaarden (one pot) may have been 245 ml actually, unsure as the glass was an odd shape, and for a beer on tap, 9 dollars thank you very much.
in summary, slow service, food prices fair, once served, good service, steak took a while to come out seeing it was quiet, great chef, but dont cut my steak please, hit you hard for beer, 9 bucks, bang, and it is on tap
Tasty food and great ambience. Great chef at The Castle! I had a tasty meal and dessert, and the produce was fresh.
The service was attentive and fast.
I also really enjoyed the live acoustic band on a Friday night, there was a great social atmosphere for a drink!
Great atmosphere, food and service what more could you want. Will definitely be the new local pub
450 gram Rib Eye. Had dinner here tonight! 450 gram Rib eye was spectacular! My friend had the pasta Ravioli and was delicious also! definitely be back!
I highly recommend the croquettes as a starter,they just melt in your mouth! Un regalo mi amigo! I always have the mussels at the castle as they are the best in Melbourne and i love that they are served with bread and chips! Yummy:) i have few friends coming from interstate next month and i can't wait for them to experience this beautiful venue with me!

Very nice indeed! Huge chicken succulent yet crunchy, saucy but not too saucy! Nice piece of Ham and Perfect amount of Cheese! Chips were cooked perfectly! Other meals looked great but I am coming back for that Parma one more time first! Very Nice job, Staff were friendly and service was good! All round nice place!
Beautiful place to have a nice dinner with your family with affordable prices for a high quality of food or, to meet your friends and enjoy the large selection of beverages at the bar. Everyone will be pleased...even SPORTS FANS with FOXTEL on big screens! Come check it out!
Had dinner on a Saturday night with a table for 8. Place was very clean, atmosphere was very friendly & cosy. We had one of pretty much all the entrees & they were very very yummy couldn't decide which was my favorite, dinner for everyone was exactly the same as so was dessert. Service was prompt and at a high standard. All in all a wonderful night definately in my top 5!

Excellent Function Venue. I had my 30th birthday at the Castle Hotel on 20/4/13 and had a wonderful experience! Sarah was easy to get in touch with leading up to the event and was so cooperative and helpful.

LouCardFan. True Gem Discovered-was looking for a place to watch sports in Melbourne, Australia...in particular the NCAA college basketball tourney...primarily my alma mater Louisville Cards. Stopped by the Castle Hotel & found a great spot. It's under new ownership & management. Mgr Dan was so accommodating. Enjoyed the remodeled facilities & the food. Staff was nice & clientele friendly. I highly recommend that everyone check this location out. You'll be glad that you did.
This is the best pub to go to in Melbourne. The food was delicious and the staff was great! They really went above and beyond for us. The fish and chips and steak sandwhich was great! They have big screen tv's to watch your favorite game, darts and a pool table. I would recommend this to anyone. Come in sit on the couch watch your game and drink a nice cold beer on tap with the best staff around!
The Family. Took the kids to The Castle (heard it as under new management) , great selection of food and well priced. The food service very quick and the food was served HOT! Dessert was even better..............Happy Kids Happy Life!
Wow Factor!. Transformation in such a short period is incredibly impressive.
From its extreme makeover, fancy take on a typical pub menu to its friendly staff...I have found it very inviting to go back and recommend to my friends.
