A friend of mine suggested this great Indian restaurant for a quick lunch.
Most dishes are originating from the Northern part of India. Service was very friendly and fast. We simply ordered way too much, but it was worth it. The naan bread was great and Marsala Chicken my favourite together with saffron rice and Indian pickles.
It is a genuine and simple place you will greatly enjoy if you appreciate Indian cuisine.
We tried Le Taj for the first time last weekend and are already looking forward to our next time.
We decided to do a takeaway and like with every restaurant we frequent, we decided to try only one main and one side to see if we liked it.
Food: We ordered an Aaloo Paratha and a full Tandoori Chicken bird.
The Aaloo pratatha was soft and fluffy, was not over or understuffed. Standard and very good. 4.5/5.
But the Tandoori Chicken pieces were, by far, the best tandoori platter we have had in Melbourne, per our tastes. As a food blogger + documenter, I try to recommend only the very best to my friends and readers, and I would definitely ask them to try Le Taj's take on Tandoori Chicken.
The masala coating on the chicken was creamy and bursting with flavour - particularly chaat masaala stuffed all the way into every tiny crevice of the bird. The chicken itself was tender and not chewy or rubbery.
The portion was big enough to feed two very hungry adults at dinner time; this chicken will be my new go-to for hungry nights for takeouts.
Service: Very inviting and welcoming during our pick up, thank you, we truly value smiles from the staff :)
Price: $3.50 for the Paratha and $19 for the whole Tandoori Chicken, a reasonable price for such excellent quality.
I'm always rooting for quality Indian restaurants that remind me of the way things are traditionally made in India, looking forward to returning and showcasing some more dishes at the restaurant!
We regularly do take out from here and its always yummy. Love the mushroom masala and pretty much all the other curries as well! There is a ghost chilli curry on the menu that looks interesting!
Got delivery from Le Taj and it’s not bad. The Tindaloo is soooo yummy but quite chilli so I am scared to even think what Ghost curry would taste like!!! We ordered butter chicken but nothing really to write home about. The potato curry is quite nice.
The portions sizes are generous but it is quite exxy for Indian food

+4.5
Fantastic butter chicken and their butter naans are amazing. This is Indian food how Aussies love it. Nice atmosphere. I'm country Victorian so all I eat is butter chicken, but if you only care about butter chicken, these guys do it well
Had an epically romantic feed for V day with the Sheila. We had the banquet, bloody good price, almost as good value as a $4 cheeseburger meal! Would recommend coming to this joint if you like spicy Indian food! 5 stars
Great Indian food
At a good price.
I have been twice to Le Taj and both times I've had a great experience. They have plenty vegetarian options but I specially recommend the saag panner. Some of the drinks ( ex. Mango Lassi) are way too sweet but overall the food is delicious. Great service and good place to enjoy a romantic date or hang out with friends.
Have been coming here for over 8 years. Used to work around the corner and came here for lunch. Even after we made the move to the South East we still make the trip. Easily one of the best Indian restaurants we've eaten at, and definitely a hidden gem. Highly recommended.
Great place. Always good service, very tasty and properly spiced. My favourite is the vindaloo. Varieties of naan are all very good too. It can be strangely quiet on a weekday, but seems too do a lot of take away. Love going here.
We got some takeout curries and naan from here one lazy Friday night, and it was delicious! I had the Malai Kofta which was one of the best Indian dishes I've ever had. Highly recommend!
Amazing!!. I absolutely love the food at le taj. the tandoori chicken is AMAZING, the papadums are the best ive ever had and the naan bread is soooo good. The staff are also really really nice. I highly recommend going there!
Fabulous venue. Fabulous food. Wonderful staff. Great venue. Have been twice. And will keep coming back.
Great!. I ordered for delivery so I can't comment on the actual restaurant experience. But for delivery, amazing! From completion of order to it being on my doorstep was a total of 15mins, the delivery man was extremely lovely and the food was really really good. The food was a tad more expensive than other restaurants around but it was worth it for the quality! Big kudos to the whole team :)
Amazing food!! I've been eating at le taj for years and it's always been perfect.
The customer service makes the experience always makes me want to return
Great food!!. I loved the food there. We had a Kadhai Paneer and it was delicious.
The best Indian food I have ever had in Melbourne. I liked the veg-biriyani as well although it was not a biriyani, it was more of a rice with mixed vegetable curry but it was different and good.
I will definatly go back sooner rather than later (before they change the cook may be :-) )
Consistently Excellent. We live in the south-east suburbs, where there is a glut of Indian restaurants. But we still drive all the way to West Melbourne to visit Le Taj!
Their platter of samosas and pakoras is delicious and fresh - just like you'd get in a proper Punjabi household. Their curries are well-flavoured, and they're NOT covered in a yucky layer of oil, which is the case in many inferior restaurants.
The service is always patient and friendly. Every. Single. Time.
And the attention to small details is stunning. The tamarind chutney that comes with the free pappadams contains jaggery, not just normal sugar. You can actually taste the difference.
Unlike other Indian restaurants, Le Taj doesn't cut corners. They don't take shortcuts or use the cheap option. They seem really concerned with doing everything the proper way... and now I keep using all this petrol driving all the way into West Melbourne... but it's worth it :D
Food is fantastic and service is excellent. Le Taj is one of the best places in Melbourne to go for curry. The food is fantastic. And the service is excellent. Well done guys!
Delicious!!!. Just finished our take-away of the Malai Kofta, Alu Gobi, raita, tandoori roti, vegetable pakora and mango lassi. Excellent indian. We live in North Melbourne and have tried a number of the local Indian restaurants. This one is by far the best. Would definitely recommend.
Awesome Food, Yummy. I have had food from Letaj for the last so many years and the food is always fresh, served on time, yummy. the place is so clean and i haven't seen a place this clean for a indian restaurant except for one more indian place in docklands. this place rocks. I actually go with my wife and friends often to this place for a sit down meal and not over crowded here ever. we can have a good dinner conversations. excellent for first dates. best place, highly recommend. Please keep up the good work. hats off to chef and owners.
Pretty tasty Indian. We just get takeaway from here occasionally but have been doing so for years. It is always good. I don't think its the fanciest Indian in town but who the hell wants that, the butter chicken, korma, naan and saag paneer are great dishes.
Pretty impressed. Great food..good ambience, loved the fireplace and lamb rogan josh was my favourite
Went here for birthday romantic dinner. Staff were very attentive, nice spot in front of the fire. Butter chicken and tandoori mushrooms superb
Really great. Not the cheapest Indian around but the food is really very good. Delicious creamy paneer and the sauces have a lovely depth and complexity. I found the service both in-house and delivered to be friendly and professional.
Le Taj was nice, went for some takeaways on a chilly Saturday night, walked in and it was dead?! I thought it was pricey but our meals were good - palak paneer had the right amount of spinach and a generous serving of paneer, my partner had a lamb curry with a garlic naan which he loved and they gave us free popadoms - would go back but too pricey to be a semi regular mid week dinner
The only indian. ...worth eating round here!
as part of our commitment to share around what is good in the hood... we'd like to introduce Pat and his restaurant to the world. they rock, their dahl makani is buttery, spicy and protein rich all at once (for my fellow wasting vegetarians out there). the missus swears by the beef rendang, reckoning it be long slow cooked like (as do my long suppressed carnivorous memories), cuz of like, the tenderness yeah? they even bring the goodness to your door. however if you feel like a wonderfully pristine dining experience out, then they have this base covered too... check it out!
Quaint dining experience. Attentive table service. Ample quantities of food. The lamb korma was tough but tasty. The beef curry was awesome. Water needs to be filtered
Simply The BEST. Well Melbourne, if you like Indian food, then you will absolutely LOVE Le Taj! From the white linen napery and comfy dining chairs, to the open log fire and fabulous location, this place has more to offer than its excellent service - its all about great food!!! The freshest ingredients are used in the curries, tandooris and tikka's -ensuring the fullest of flavours.
The very latest offering, and we can't sing the praises high enough is the Goat Masala curry. This dish is served with meat on the bone, succulent and flavoursome, rich and delightfully spicy without overpowering heat. Le Taj aslo do a Goat Vindaloo for those who like heat in their curries, so please do try!!!
But our absolutely "must have" favorite is the Tandoori platter (served for 2) which arrives on a sizzle plate with 4 different styles of tandoori - Bara kebab (lamb cutlet), Seekh kebab (spiced mince "sausage"), chicken tandoori and chicken tikka. This folks, is the BEST tandoori in town!!!!
Do yourselves a favour and try Le Taj. You won't be sorry!!! It is indeed Fine Indian Food!!!
Nice place, good food.. My wife used to drive past this place every day on her way to and from work but never stopped for a meal or a takeaway. Pity, as when we finally went there on the weekend we were really impressed with the quality of the food. The ambiance of the dining room was nice too - with the log fire burning.
We had three of the mildish curries and all were excellent. They definitely did not have the feel of some Indian places, where it seems that warmed meat been thrown into a sauce and then served (see eg Roti Man). The naan was excellent too.
It's a bit out of the way, but we'd definitely go back if we were in the area again.
The garlic naans are amazing! They were crispy and full of flavour. Saag was pretty tasty too.
Delicious Indian Food. Hey Guys, i know lot of people get stressed when it comes to getting good indian but believe me try Le Taj for a good curry.
