Review Momo Station - Melbourne

Piyush Ranjan
One of the best street style chowmein I've had in a long time. The panipuri was good too and the vegetarian momos were soft and well-cooked. The stuffing could have been a bit spicy.

Been on a bit of a momo hunt lately and this place takes the crown imo ! Deliciously spiced just right. I devoured these! I can’t wait to go back for more. They do provide a tangy tomato sauce on the side but I thought the momos tasted great by itself . Although the momos are are made can leave the top of them a bit chewier than the body which I didn’t mind but (thankfully)my gf did…more for me! We also ordered the veg noodles . This was on the spicer side with a rather smokey flavour which I also enjoyed.

One of the worst restaurants i have ever been in and not even stretching. Choila was tasteless so was every food like momo. One of the worst jhol momo i have ever had in my life. Pani puri alu was literally one spoon serving for one plate and every food lacked salt. Momo was not cooked properly the meat tasted weird. First Nepalese restaurant i went in Melbourne and was so disappointed. Compared to sydney even 0 star is too much for them

i came back to momo station after few years just to eat "choila" because previously the taste was very good. but this time the taste was not that good. i was very disappointed. the taste wasn't great, it was nothing like "Choila". The kitchen team should think about how to give authentic taste to the customer.

"Original" Momo Place in Melbourne. Been going there for years and absolutely love the food there. Noticed that they have recently moved to new location. New location but same delightful, homely taste.

This afternoon i went there to have a nepalese momo with my neplai friend, as they have moved to new place, it was my first time i was so excited to have a buff momos. We order the five plates of momos for our tabel we got three within 15 minutes but unfortunately me and one of my friends didn’t get until 40 minutes of ordering. Everyone in our table finished eating and we waited and waited we didn’t get any responses and we asked for a refund as we were already late for our appointment at 1 pm They refused to do that and the girl who was working inside the kitchen was so rude speaking on another language and the man came out from the kitchen to convince us to do take away, we were okey to do take away we came home and had that it was undercooked and everything had to go for bin. As it was my first time it was vey bad experience lost of time and unprofessional behaviour. I won’t recommend this place for other nationalities as there is no respect of time money and for their customers. Thank you

Enjoyed the steamed veg momos yesterday. The sauces were very tasty and a good compliement to the momos. Not too spicy or sweet, just perfect.

My 14 month's old daughter enjoys your Chicken MOMO , can you believe it !!!! ! I am a very happy customer and love live love your Chicken MOMO, please always maintain the quality like you do.

3.5 stars ⭐️ egg stir fry noodles were quite yummy, felt like eating stir fried instant noodles 🤣. Can’t wait to try their Momos next time!

The food here is so good! It is all very authentic too and takes me back to Nepal instantly. I love the momos and the sauce they are served with is delicious. The thukpa is also very good. They can get busy but it is always worth the wait!

The momos were below average, stale and not yum. The chutney with momos was straight up a nightmare. The vegetable had Haldi in their veggies.

An assorted variety of momos offered for a very pocket friendly price. All meals are very fulfilling and taste very much like the authentic nepalese/Indianish cuisine. The portion size is enough for a very satisfying meal. So highly recommended. Also, a free tip, if your spice tolerance is low, do not pick a dish that involved chilli. Haha

My first time trying Nepalese food. Surprisingly, I enjoyed their food very much. Love their momos which known as dumplings. Definitely, it tasted different from dumpling that I had in Chinese restaurant but it has similarities. I had chicken chowmian as well which was enjoyable except chicken was a little dry.

I will be back for other kinds of momos!

I feel this place is in a downfall. Used to be one of my fav place to grab momos and lamb chhoila. I had stopped momos months ago as they no longer tasted good. I used to come back for the lamb chhoilas. But no more. The chhoilas are now just blocks of lamb meat. No taste at all. Was stupid enough to try the chilli momo, hoping they had improved. Disappointed.

Amazing place. Very friendly staff. Me and my friend ordered chicken chowmein and pork momos. The chowmein was amazing however this time around we had to leave the momos since there was a lot of oil dripping from the momos.

today momo didn't meet any standard guys , we were there around at 6 pm nothing left to eat , so we decide to eat pork momo and allu dam ,I am not happy at all

Was introduced by a colleague of mine and I'm not disappointed. The Momo is addictive and delicious especially with the sauce that comes with it. I would definitely come back, Thank you.

Craving Nepalese noodle so I decide to come to this place around 3 pm. The place is so busy at this time. Shocking because I though it gonna be quite since the lunchtime over. But, anyways, all worth it. The food is so good. Will come back and try their momo 😋

Been here a lot of times - mostly for the consistently Yummy Momo's!!

The chicken soup that you get with the Momo's is out of this world and can be a perfect healing potion when you're feeling a bit down under..

I don't come here for proper meals but in between meals - momo cravings.. nicely tucked away place in Melbourne CBD.. off Bourke St.. opposite Target..
The Honest Glutton
The dumplings (momo) here are thick skinned and so hearty. Tucked away in a food court, the restaurant it self looked quite run down... but the line of people queuing for their order to be taken was what kept my curiosity. I ordered the spicy momo in which was quite cheap and came with 8 or more large size dumplings covered in a delicious spicy tomato sauce. Addictive!

My go to place to satisfied my Momo cravings. Hidden in Tivoli arcade is a cute little nepalese restaurant that serves a range of momo's from vegetarian, chicken and beef. It is a great spot to grab a quick and cheap lunch at $11 for 10 Dumplings and a side of soup.

Service with a smile all round...

As for the food, the chow mein was tasty. Not as smoky as other restaurants but I would definitely still go back for it any time. It was fairly priced at just $11 as well.

As for the chicken pan fried momos, the filling wasn’t the best. I’ve had better ones in the city, but I’m hoping it was just a bad batch by the chef and when I return, it improves!

One of the best things about Melbourne has to be the endless list of cuisines on offer. This was my first time having Nepalese food and it didn't disappoint, with our favourites here being the beef and chicken momos!

Follow us on Instagram: @alwayshungryformore

Walked past and saw some diners eating some delicious looking Nepalese momo dumplings.

At around 10 for $10.50, it’s exceptional value.
I had an order of steamed pork momos.
It came on a simple try with a clean clear soup, chilli and a tomato based sauce.
The skin was delicate but when steamed kept its strength and didn’t stick to each other.
The pork filling was tasty with a mix of vegetables, and really good with the chilli sauce, which isn’t really spicy.
It’s surprisingly popular so they must be doing something right.
There aren’t many Nepalese restaurants around, so I’m interested to come back and try other dishes.

The serve the best chicken momos !
The place is tiny and inside tivoli arcade in a corner but it is maintained well in terms of hygiene.
Love the wai wai and chicken momos .
I went there for lunch as I was in the city last Thursday. Ordered Veg Chowmien. Just as soon as I had couple of mouthful, I bit into something that felt like a piece of stone. When I spit it out in the tissue to see, I found pieces of glass. I believe that I bit into a small piece of glass and it broke into tiny pieces. I took the biggest piece which was now a size of a quinoa(because I didn't want to make it a scene by taking the food that I spit out), to the lady in the reception and showed her. She then showed it the people in the kitchen. All of the staff huddled around it and mumbled and finally the lady in the reception came and told me "it must have fallen from the MSG... do you want me to make you another one?" at This point I was pretty furious because there was no apology just a pathetic excuse. and I am not an unreasonable person but they were being total ignorant about how big the issue... I said I didn't want another one so she refunded my $10.50. and then she goes "It wasn't a glass".... You must be kidding me you guys were so shameless to mention that it must have been in the MSG.. (like it was a good thing and no apology) and then go on to saying it wasn't a glass..!! such a shameful lot you are. I told my friends, and none of them will ever eat here.

Finally got the chance to visit this tiny Nepalese restaurant that somehow resembles a homely atmosphere. I really liked the ever smiling staff and their quick service approx took about 10 min to get my order 👌! Although the chilli momo lived up to the expectation. I was a little disappointed with mango lassi . Certainly not worth of the price!
Little Bit Of Everything
Was in a mood to eat some authentic Momo’s that’s how I ended up here for lunch. Never ended up ordering momos as I saw the Lamb Choila, a dish that I ate a friends place in Sydney. Amazing flavours with lots of garlic just loved it. On the down side the meat was a little tough and dry. Perfect for lunches as they are super quick with their service.

It's always comforting consuming momos especially during winter. It's a nice break from the endless consumption of Chinese dumplings on offer. What I love are the various spices used in each filling as well as the accompaniments (especially the chilli). Not the most glamorous locality but delivers hearty meals.

First time here, the food is okay not too bad. I'm not so familiar with the test though. Asked staff about the menu, and describe it wrong. She point out the one with potatoes and meat. But it come out w/o potatoes. Just wondering why she point out that pic if that's not the one she mean 🤔🤔🤔

Gave up on this place after a few mediocre experiences, but the craving for something spicy (and proximity to the mall where I was shopping) brought me back again. I got the Choila Aloo Set and the quality of the Lamb Choila has improved greatly! The meat was tender, spicy and full of flavour, my only suggestion for them would be to go easy on the garlic. The taste of Dum Aloo was much better too. I had a very satisfying lunch!

Big fan of their momos! Delish decadent delightful dumplings. Every mouthful packed with the flavours. Mixed with the condiments, momos becomes great-mos! For $9, value for money. Only drawback is its 15min wait before those momos are served.
Prophetmars666
Your momos are amazing except it had few sands inside , maybe the herbs wasn't washed and the msg oh my god . Can you please not put msg at all. I can feel the way I'm dehydrated and diving into a pool of water.
Apart from these two complain your momos are very good. I hope to eat here as a msg free place please. Look after your customer health.
Thank you

I went here for lunch today. Luckily I wasn't in a hurry because I was told it was a 20 minute wait for my fried pork momos. I wouldn't recommend this place for people on their lunch breaks. After 20 mins my fried pork momos came out with dhal and chili sauce, they were nice when they were mixed together. I enjoyed the flavor of the momos it's slightly different from a Chinese dumpling maybe it has cumin in it. If I get momos from here I'd get them steamed instead of fried because they were really oily. The staff were friendly enough, no time to be really friendly because they're busy.

Hidden away amongst the many shops and little Bourke Street arcade districts (this time it's further in from the Starbucks shop) is this little Nepalese gem.

Momo are basically dumplings Nepalese style and the pan fried pork ones were worth the wait (expect about 10mins?). Comes with a side of chilli and what closely resembles dal and a bowl of chicken soup. I've also had the chicken chow mien before and that's also worth a try.

Nice cheap eat and a change to the otherwise better known Chinese dumplings.
The wai wai sadeko and chilli pork momos are amazing! The wai wai was abit too sour though.. The service is quite slow though, it takes 30 minutes for the spicy pork momo to be served! But it is definitely my favourite momo place in Melbourne!

Simply excellent. Authentic, clean, delicious. If you have had Nepalese, or food from the hills of Darjeeling this is the place. Try the choilas.

- great service
- good food
- made fresh just for.

I ordered chicken dumplings, it was made fresh because I can't actually taste the onions and other spices.
Their spicy tea is really nice, warm, and refreshing.
My favourite place to have momos! Always fresh and juicy and piping hot. Can't go wrong with an aloo choila set either. Have been reccomending this place to all of my friends.

We really enjoy spicy food so the hot and spicy lamb choila and the momos in chilli sauce were delightful! The food here really tasty and very good value!

Momo's has brought something new to my palate - the lamb choila set. The puffed rice that comes with it has some crunchy beans in the mix and the lamb itself is juicy and deliciously spiced. I did try the Momo's but it was the lamb choila that left it's lasting impression on me, and my hidden gem find for the work. FYI the Momo's you can also buy frozen to take home.

My experience here today was pretty frustrating. I opted for the chilli pork moms ($2 extra from the normal momos) because who can say no to chilli right? 20-30 minutes later after 5-6 people who came after me and being served their food first was very annoying experience. What I received in front of me was a bowl of momos tossed in a tomato based chilli ketchup sauce of some kind. Delicious and hot? Yes. Paying an extra $2 for a longer wait a minus the broth you get with the normal momos? No thank you. I am willing to give them another go because maybe I got too ambitious with my order. But was not impressed today.

Mouth watering and succulent chicken momos. The best and the money worth momos you can ever find. The chowmien just tickles the taste buds. Spicy and delicious. Found the place 3 months ago and have already visited it more than 15 times..travelling all the way from the south east surburb. The service is prompt and the food is fresh made. Not a great ambiance, but who cares when you have heaven on your plate.

SO hard to find authentic Nepalese in Melbourne and I'm glad I found it at Momo Station. I love this little joint and it's honest, fuss-free food. Try the wai wai sadeko and the lamb choila set! Amazing. I regularly eat here! :)

Every Time I go there, I order chicken mo:mo. My favourite meal and only one place where I can get mo:mo like how I want to is momo station. Amazing foods.
Mouth To Mouth
The beef dumplings have a plumper and rounder appearance compared to the vegetable dumplings. The filling is moist and bursts in the mouth.

Frozen momos. We bought 20 frozen momos for AUD12, a mix of pork, beef, chicken and veg, together with the achars. Took them home and steamed them for 20 mins. Absolutely genuine and delicious!
I live in Nepal so I can vouch for their authenticity.

Best momos in town but shop closes so early

Friendly vibe. Friendly people here serving up humble food thus no hipster wankers and better atmosphere. Some of it isn't that amazing but the dumplings are good and it is all reasonably priced. Worth checking out, it is a bit hard to find in an arcade, but note it closes at 6.30 pm.

It's a homely no frills Nepalese cafe. Love the pork momos. Definitely worth a try.

Great find. Sumbled upon this place by accident a couple of weeks ago, really good decent food and at a great price. Worth the venture to the back of the arcade to try out.

Love the place. Loved this place. The momos were amazing. We had the chicken momos and egg chowmein. The food was very delicious and staff was very friendly.
I cant believe I didnt find this place before.
Definitely returning. Would recommend this place to my friends.

@ Micchibux. Hi I am the manager/owner of momo station and your comment has left me very confused as I don't work at the counter.
Things haven't been the same for our business since RMIT left the building and we have been trying really hard to do anything to keep the business going. I don't think we can afford to be rude to anyone who walks into our shop.
Please feel free to elaborate the incident so that I can discuss further with my staff if anyone else was responsible.
:)
Micchibux
Staff member was very rude. Read the review on Urbanspoon and saw the rating was good. Went there last week and was very disappointed. The shop has a cosy, family style feeling to it. I would expect the staff members to be friendly for a small shop like this. However the staff member was very rude and inpatient. When I asked for the manager, it turns out that the staff member, who was raising her voice with me was the manager. When I read the reviews again, I realised that the reviews are from 2011 and 2012. I will not return to this place and will not recommend any of my friends or colleagues to visit this shop.

Came here on a groupon and so glad I did, because I would never have thought to look for food in tivoli arcade! Beautiful dumplings!

Amaaaaazing momos and more!!!. Brilliant momos and chweeeelllllaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! reminds me of nepal!!!!

Momo Mo mo more. Resembling a small stall along side the roads in Nepal and Darjeeling area, the chicken momos are as good. Nepalese street food done quick and tasty. The lamb choyla is also another one to share if you're keen on spicy food.

Absolutely loved it! Been there twice now and dare I say there wil be a heap more visits. Tried the chicken and pork momos which blew me away! I've also tried the lamb choila which was spicy but didn't stop me from devouring it. So tasty!

Best chicken dumplings in Melbourne. After 20+ visits to Momo Station, the chicken dumplings (momo's) are consistent - and fantastic. The chai tea is also very good, made from the staff's secret recipe, not from a pre-mixd satchet.

Watch out, the dumplings from Momo will spoil for dumplings from other establishments...

Best Momo in town... If u are a serious dumpling fan.. U can't miss out the taste of authentic Nepalese momo

Great food but not fine dining. Vego and chicken dumplings great. Quick & easy. Diverse crowd. Love the birds flying around the restaurant.

Hidden in a corner of the Tivoli Arcade in Bourke Street, Momo Station serves different types of Nepalese dumplings. I find them a nice change from the usual Chinese style dumplings. My other like is the noodle soup.

Check this review from the Age:

http://www.theage.com.au/entertainment/restaurants-and-bars/on-melbournes-dumpling-trail-20101105-17gyw.html

I like these Momos. Momo Station is a rather nondescript, basic food outlet operation, populated with many Nepalese student types. Seems to be a charming family operation with the basic self service cutlery and sauces. Wishing to try the momos I was recommended that the chicken ones were good. They came out on a tray with chicken broth, coriander and chilli sauce. The momos were delicious parcels of dumpling goodness with a minute amount of broth inside. Chicken flavour was excellent as were the dipping sauces -- though next time I will try the more serious looking red sauces on display. Washed down with a can of Coke all for $9.50 a great feed before pints with the boys. Definitely recommend this for dumpling aficionados the fine family style can't be beat -- will be back to try the beef, pork and veg variations of momos.

Momo Station has been around for a few years. They are in the Tivoli Arcade and when the RMIT Business was around a lot of students used to flock to this place. Not anymore. Gone are the days where a lot of students used to hang around the Arcade. Now the Arcade is pretty quiet even for lunchtime. So quiet that many of the shops like Yuki had shut down. RMIT what are you doing to the poor businesses? So to try and keep their customers Momo station had advertised a $5 deal on Groupon and I was hooked. Only problem is that they only take printed vouchers. No electronic smart phone vouchers, why? When everyone else is trying to save the trees? But the waitress was friendly though. The place like others was dead quiet on a Thursday lunchtime. I had the vegetarian dumplings which was so small. I was still hungry so I ordered the vegetarian fried noodles ($8.50). The two guys at a nearby table ordered three sets in between them. But the momos were yummy. But just a tad small. And I was addic
Sweet And Sour Fork
The Chicken Momo ($8 for 10 pieces) seems to be THE thing to order here, and yes, they do look a lot like Xiao Long Bao. However as soon as you put them in your mouth, you realise that they couldn’t be more different. Unlike its yum-cha twin, these small parcels are designed to be stodgy and filling, with a much more strongly flavoured mince. Despite that, these dumplings still manage to retain some delicacy to them, through the careful flavouring of the filling, and the thinness of the wrapper. Dipped in house-made chutney, and between sips of a delicate chicken broth, they disappeared quickly down the hatch.

Nepalese cuisine is something that I've only just discovered. Apart from eating half a bowl of aalu tarkari (potato curry) courtesy of a Nepalese colleague during

There are a myriad of different varieties of dumplings available in Melbourne: pierogi and bread dumplings from central and eastern Europe, gnocchi from Italy, gyoza from Japan, ashak from Afghanistan and that's without even touching on Chinese style dumplings. I'm sure there must also be African and South American style dumplings out there somewhere, if I knew where to look. I'd never tried momo before, but it was time to give these Himalayan staples a try. Momo Station is located in the Tivoli Arcade, a small arcade next to RMIT on Bourke Street. It offers a limited variety of cheap lunchtime meals aimed at the student end of the market but it was the momo Ms Counting her Calories, Snooze and myself were after. There are four different types of momo available prepared three different ways and we went with pan fried beef, steamed chicken and pork with chilli sauce. Stand out was the chicken momo. These looked kind of like shao long bao, served with chilli and dhal dipping sauces and a
