Review Pho Tam - Melbourne

Bella Lee
Never returning again. Disappointed. Meat with rice was way too salty and overcooked. Wondering how long did they marinate it? It’s like the frozen meat from cheap convinces store. Price- 100% not worthy. 16/plates with small portion. Felt terribly nausea after this.

Delicious Hủ tiếu tastes just how I remember it in Ho Chi Minh City! The staff are super friendly, the tea is warm for a winters day and the soup is simply glorious! Packed full of greens and tasty cuts of meat. Different to a bowl of pho, Hủ tiếu has egg noodles and a super clear broth. Great spot for a bite to eat. Can’t wait to try other menu items. Huge servings.

Authentic Vietnamese vericimelli and rice dishes with noodle soups. Quick, good value for money. A Footscray establishment. Outdoor and indoor seating.
Rose Y Xiong
It became my regular place years ago, I am here once a week for the Pho. So yummy.

I want my pho serve with veges and seafood. Very unlikely that they will serve me what i want but they made it happen. I loved it 🙂🙂🙂

Fantastic! The outdoor seating is so lovely. They have a few vegan options which is nice. I went for the mock meat beef soup which was really flavoursome for a vegan broth. The rice paper rolls were fresh and delicious. Iced coffee here is fantastic also. The service was very friendly and fast as well. Definitely coming back 💚

Excellent Phò, the broth was full of flavour.... presented well, but it's all about flavour, good ratio of meat to noodles. Definitely coming back, pork and prawn mini spring rolls are very nice also

This place used to be amazing (pictures are a few years old) however now their food is very average with some dishes inedible. Gave them a couple more goes before leaving this review. Will never return. The last pho I had the meat was inedible.

Located at the corner of Leeds street is this vietnamese pho spot! Been coming for my pho fix and their rice dishes are good too.<br/><br/>However i have noticed that their portions are smaller now, the flavours are good but it would be better if the servings are bigger
Debby
Excellent pho and broken rice! Broth is deep in flavour and The dry noodle is pretty decent too. Service is friendly and quick. One of the few places you can BYO. Expect a bit of queue during rush hour.<br/>
Carmen Tassone
Staff was friendly. Love the food and the fried ice cream is huge! Wish cold roll could have more favour but other then that it’s amazing. Will definitely come back for other food!
Melb_Belly
Decent vietnamese in Footscray thats not on the main strip. Springys are slightly salty even before dipping into fish sauce. The bun mam is ok. Not as pungent and flavoursome as how i normally like.<br/><br/>Staff are friendly and price is reasonable.<br/><br/>Looking at approx $15pp + drinks<br/><br/>Overall it's a nice alternative if youre sick of your go to place.

This place has gone down hill. With so many good Pho choices in the area, it's really got to improve. Pho is average, and the other dishes are sub standard (ban hoi in particular- beef was very dry and salty). The staff aren't friendly either. When we were still deciding to order, the waitress clicked her tongue and shook her head at us, even though they weren't busy...
Linda
Bit disappointing really. Be it with the Pho or Bun Bo Hue...the soup broth was sub-standard. Worse of all, the noodles of the Bun Bo Hue was only 90% cooked through and hence chewy to eat. Hubby also ordered a stir fry chicken. Also disappointing.
Jessie Tran
The food here is pretty good. There are other places to eat better pho in Footscray. The com tam or broken rice is really good though. The meat is sometimes a bit tough.

3.5<br/>We had visited Pho Tam a couple of times over the years but until today, not recently. Should have.<br/>We chose the ox tail soup off the (never changing?) specials board for a bit of a giggle. It was magnificent. Nothing near what one could imagine from the name. Packed full of rich but clear flavours, plenty of fresh accompaniments.

Have been here twice: first time food was decent, service was good. Second time, waitress scoffed at us when we were not ready to order 2 minutes after arriving. We were made to feel uncomfortable so we left. With so many other options around the corner we wouldn’t recommend.
Rachael
Waitress was friendly, food was average and not particularly memorable. Broken rice dish was made of different components, smallish piece of meat but with a well cooked small egg. Pho was not amazing as I expect from a Vietnamese restaurant. enjoyed dessert as it is hard to pull off a good fried ice cream
Gladys Chen
My family favorite place for vietnamese food. If we went there, we usually ordered different type of food but we always ordered broken rice. The place is clean also not expensive.
PW Lou
A group of us meet up here. None of us tried the pho as wanted something different. The vegetarian paper spring rolls were okay.<br/><br/>The rice noodles with prawn and pork was slightly disappointing as the content was somewhat lacking.<br/><br/>The rice noodles with wonton, prawn and pork I was told was average and a tad too salty.<br/><br/>I had the rice vermicelli combination and enjoyed it but felt it was salty.<br/><br/>All in all its okay .
Hungry Hieu
Nice quiet place for a big breakfast as it was one of the few Vietnamese restaurant opened at 8am offering their full menu. The owners was lovely for the family run business who did most of the work themselves like taking orders and cleaning the tables. The price is good for the large serving and food made fresh. The fried garlic in the wonton soup gave it a nice flavour and each wonton comes with a generous filling. The same for the spring rolls as there was good amount of mince prawns; it wasn't mostly pastry like other places. The broken rice was nice but the meat's marinate could be improved.

3.5 A small spot with a wide range of menu. Tried the beef wrapped with the betel leaf for the first time, and really liked it. The rice is not very good though, a bit sticky. The Vietnamese coffee is great, and they even bathed it in hot water to keep it warm, how lovely.
Ms Rodrigo
I love this little place. The food is really good. I always get the bread with their curry dish. Tastes soo good. It’s not very busy most times so it’s a really nice place to just eat good food and relax. Service is great too.
Valina Whites
Don't let the ordinary front of this place trick you into thinking that it's just going to be like any other vietnamese restaurant! be wary that item 59 is absolutely addictive and you most likely will become a regular visitor after tasting it!

This my go-to Vietnamese restaurant. Lots of selections on the menu and you can find many local Vietnamese dishes which they don’t normally serve elsewhere. The food quality is consistent, very delicious and reasonably priced.

This is a lovely little family run restaurant. It’s my favorite for pho. There are others that are much busier on Hopkins St, but this is a little oasis and the food is simply better. There is always a cheerful welcome, and they seem to look after people in the community who are a bit down on their luck. Don’t miss the tips jar which collects for charities in Vietnam.<br/><br/>Places like this make me feel really lucky I live ‘round here.<br/><br/>(I s’pose it’s too much to hope that restaura

Had high hopes after reading the reviews on this place but we thought it was quite average. It's not bad but we've had better. <br/>Bo tai chanh lacked flavour and the veggies were very chunky so it was hard to bite into. <br/>Hi tieu mi dac biet is ok. The soup had some flavour but could have been simmering a bit longer to enhance the depth of the broth. The ratio of noodles to meat/seafood also made you feel ripped off. <br/>Com ga chien also lacked flavour but chicken was cooked to a lovely crisp. <br/>

Best pho in footscray. Awesome dumplings and mince beef in betel leaves too. Staff are cool and prefer eating off the Main Street. Thumbs up

When the weather so cold and foggy, I thought something like hot soup would be nice for my lunch today. So I ordered Pho with basically everything (sliced beef, tendon, brisket, tripe, beef balls and sliced beef sausages). Hubby had a crispy chicken with fried rice and we shared a three colors drink. Everything was nice overall. Hubby was pleased with the crispy chicken, and I'm good with the Pho. The only thing was, they should have cook the tripe a bit longer to get a soft yet crunchy tripe and not hard and rubbery. Staff were friendly and service was quick. But for sure, we'll come back again.

Food is yummy and comes out really quick! Boyfriend and I come here every week, and we can't get enough. Never been disappointed. We always get the broken rice and pho bowls, but I see other people order and everything looks delicious

Our favourite local. You rock up on a sunny weekend and see all the old customers sitting outside shooting the breeze whilst waiting for the coffee to finish percolating. You could be in another country! The noodle dishes are generally very good, get the Mi Quang, a flat yellow noodle served in a thick seafood broth with thin slices of pork, its almost the last item on the menu (no 78? last we were there), the curries is a Vietnamese style curry, so it's more lighter and watery than a Malaysian or Thai style curry but have their own charm, rice dishes are more average. Coffee is excellent!

Our sunday lunch place for me and the wifie! We've been religiously coming here after church (as part of the spiritual experience) for half a year now, food is so good can't stop coming back then off to do our groceries nearby. A many mentioned, very unassuming Vietnamese restaurant off the main strip that genuinely packs a punch!<br/><br/>Although the menu is a bit haphazard, go for the less than the usual run off the mill vietnamese food. Number 51: Crab soup noodle and tofu & 58: Vermecilli salad combination is a sure win! Their spring rolls and pho's are good too, if there is any space left on your tummy. Great prices and great portions.

Pho Tam is an unassuming Vietnamese cafe off the main restaurant strip in Footscray. On my friend's recommendation, I went for the rice noodles with chicken, pork and prawns served dry ie. the soup came in a separate bowl (you can also order this as a noodle soup). This dish was new to me and I really liked it. The clear, flat noodles were pleasantly sticky/chewy with some bite, and doused in a sweet chilli and soy sauce. Bean sprouts, chives, coriander and slices of pork went on top. The clear soup had broccoli, chives, some chicken meat and prawns. Good flavour, potentially aided by some MSG but nothing too heavy handed. After some overindulgence earlier in the day, this was the perfect clean-eating antidote. Efficient service and a comprehensive menu with pictures if needed. The constant stream of Vietnamese customers was a good indicator.

My partner and I went here for a pho because our usual was a long walk from where we got a park. <br/><br/>Service is friendly and quick.  The beef broth (we had beef and special beef) was not as intense as the broth at our usual - Hien Voung. Still we enjoyed it. We got bean shoots, chilli, lemon and basil.

The first vibe you get from this little restaurant is: traditional and authentic food.<br/><br/>The place is sorrounded by items or posters that only scream Vietnam, not to mention the hallway to get to the toilet which it runs next to what it appears a very homey and simple kitchen.<br/><br/>We are already happy so we ordered a serve of Broken Rice and a Duck Noodle Soup on top of s three coloured drink and a soursop smoothie. <br/><br/>The food came out fast and in abundance, which it lead us to a great dinner. Nothing fancy, and the soup had any part of the animal to give it a great flavour. The broken rice was one of the best I have ever tried and we left really happy.<br/><br/>Tasty, card payments available and well priced.<br/><br/>Pho Tam = A Vietnamese Breeze <br/><br/>
Inostram
A very basic place to come and have some basic Vietnamese... not the best, and not the worst... was ok... had the chicken and beef pho, the soup lacked fullness of flavour.. the beef ball were nice.. and the chicken was sliced a little thick... ample size serving and fast service... but with so many on offer here in Footscray...keep hunting!
I. D.
Had food here a few times. Don't really like the pho but some of the other dishes are really nice. Had a dinner with a large group recently which featured a selection of dishes to share. Although some of the dishes were really nice, altogether I didn't' t find it amazing.
Jmuu
Best pho in Footscray! Broth is legit tasty as without any additions. Don't know why people go crazy for that place with the rooster & cow logo because the broth here is waaay better. Setting isn't as nice but food makes up for it!
Lilfoodie
This restaurant is situated away from the main strip of restaurants on Hopkins St. I like that it has a more relaxed vibe than some of the other restaurants on the main strip. Great pho, only let down is that the beef is a bit thick. Overall still a good bowl of pho!
Christine Naumovski
Yum!! Pho Tam is now our Footscray favourite! The coleslaw with beef is soo good! Pho is great. Won Ton soup is delicious. Staff struggle with their English but they're very sweet and service is good
Pirate Sam
The west has some of the best Pho in Melbourne. It’s easy tofind good chicken pho in Melbourne beef is a little harder. I find the beef phohere not too chewy and really good.

Genuine Vietnamese with good quality food!! RECOMMENDED!<br/><br/>Mixed spring roll were nice and crispy, doesn't feel oily or heavy at all. Chicken organ pho was superb, soup was steamy hot, very flavorsome, organs taste really good (cleaned very well, no yucky smell at all) , the side herbs and lettuce were all really fresh! <br/><br/>Service was very friendly, like the simple interior too!
Ferolen
Good vietnamese restaurant where you can enjoy the food without that rush. Although the soup base is not the best in town, they have relatively good service and pace where you can enjoy your pho (there were no long queue of customer, nor busy waiter running around). <br/><br/>Crispy Fried Chicken served on the side of noodle soup was our favourite. You can pick either egg noodle or rice noodle to come with your tasty, heart warming broth (the egg noodle was bit dry in our experience).
Colossal Chow
My favourite Pho restaurant in all of Melbourne! Have tried quite a lot of pho in Melbourne, but none could capture the right blend of broth and condiments...until now. Pho Tam was highly recommended by my brother, and on my day off, decided to head down. It's a small and cozy little place on the corner. Staff were friendly and spoke English. I ordered spring rolls, followed by Beef Pho combination. The spring rolls came with a large amount of lettuce, and both came with mint and basil, and some local-restaurant sauce. There were all the other sauces for pho as well, and the pho came with bean shoots too. Size was very generous, taste was fantastic, and the price was cheap! I liked this place because they didn't try to just give you the bare minimum that a lot of restaurants do. They give you the right amount PLUS extra. If you are ever heading to Footscray for pho, I would say this is the place to go.
Biggiechee
I ordered the rice vermicelli salad with pork spring rolls. Their food is good value for money, they are generous with their portions. Hidden away from the main Barkley street, Pho Tam is a good option for authentic, delicious Vietnamese food!
OmNom
On the end of one of busy strips in Footscray, Pho a Tam is a typical Vietnamese eatery serving up honest real Vietnamese dishes.<br/>Friendly service and good selection menu.<br/>We enjoyed our grilled chicken on rice and pork chop vermicelli. <br/>The only thing that put me off is the lady boss sweeping the floor with a fluffy broom around diners while we are eating our lunch. I would prefer to eat my meals without a sprinkle of dusk thank you. <br/>

One unexpected side effect of my travels in the Far East, was the growth of something of an obsession with a dish I was never fully opposed to, but previously would never have taken the time to seek out, order or indeed write up an entire article about; a humble, clear broth; noodle soup. To be more specific, the divine Vietnamese bowl of aromatic perfection we know as Pho.
Kinnii
A generous serving of beef pho, but the soup was not really warm when served. The soup base tasted bland compared to other restaurants, but I do wonder if it's because other restaurants tend to add more msg. But we enjoyed the good service, it's a decent place to dine.
XiaoHui Teo
Been here on 2 separate occasions, tried their pho, prawn and pork hu tieu and grilled beef wrapped in betel leaves. Food was consistently good however a bit too salty to my liking which always make me feel really thirsty after.
H.L
Great pho place in early mornings when there aren't many options! Basil and bean sprouts are fresh. Much beef in noodle soup. Soup tastes better than some famous ones on Hopkins street.
Zhitian Zhang
I ordered no.8 "special beef" the largest of all, the one with every "unnamed organ parts" in it, generously more than one piece of each kind were in the bowl (YIPPY!) <br/>Soup was definitely made with bones (with adequate amount of msg..) and I'd recommend you taste some of the soup before adding on any chilli sauce or lemon juice.  <br/>Other than good soup, there were served along freshest side ingredients sprout, basil, chills...I mean....YIPPEEEE!<br/><br/>讀Vic uni的朋友可以選擇來這家吃,牛雜湯粉真的超讚!牛雜很軟,很多!很新鮮!

I walked past this restaurant on my walk around Footscray, tucked in the quiet corner of Leeds St. The large crowd the restaurant draws during lunch time just shows how good Pho Tam is. They have a wide variety of offerings on the menu, from traditional to some Chinese influenced dishes. I love how the simple decor is compensated by the boast of authentic flavours in their food. Is it the most customer service oriented restaurant in the area? No. But if you know what you want and like your Vietnamese flavoursome, generous and well priced, then Pho Tam is for you.

Can't speak English properly so it is very difficult to place an order obviously. <br/><br/>Asked for fresh rice paper rolls / cold rolls.<br/><br/>Got home to find four normal raw springrolls wrapped in glad wrap. Called the store and the lady said "I don't know anything about that. The other guy is busy. Call back later" and hung up on me. <br/><br/>Jesussssssssssssssss how hard is it 😂

Probably one of the best restaurants in melbourne. <br/><br/>I come here every week for the past 4 years and I've never had a bad dish. The consistency of this place is astounding. There are many varieties of soup and they are all top notch. <br/><br/>The best pho in melbourne. One of the best restaurants in melbourne for consistency.

Prawn Snack in Banana Leaf: 口感很Q,里面是有嚼头的干虾米,所以搭配的很妙,加上浓浓的香蕉叶清香,非常和谐,强烈推荐。<br/>Grilled Beef in Betel Leaf: 牛肉末裹在betel leaf里面炸出来,蘸着酱汁吃香香的。<br/>Hainanese Style Chicken Rice:这道比较失望,米里无鸡油香反而放了很多糖,鸡肉也没有香味。<br/><br/>One of my favourite spot in Footscray. They offers many varieties of Viet street noodle other than pho. Highly recommend Bun Rieu Cha (soup noodle) and Bun Du Thu (dry noodle).
Hello. Imnikki
Looking at the uncles sitting outside on the stools drinking coffee and smoking, you would think that you are in Vietnam. Taste the food and you are even more convinced that you have arrived in Vietnam. The Vietnamese drip coffee is awesome here, tasted just like the ones I had in Vietnam. Love their Bun Rieu and Bo Kho but not a big fan of the pho or broken rice. Too many other things on the menu that I have yet to try but have been impressed so far. Only thing that brings me down is that if I arrived after 6 or 7ish at night, they run out of bread for the Bo Kho and I'm left with nothing to dip in the hearty beef stew. I wonder if they would let me BYO bread.
JS
Real Vietnamese food and real Vietnamese coffee. Get the phin drip going, watch tv and listen to Viet pop music all outside in the sun or inside in winter.<br/><br/>Food is excellent and we'll priced. Can't really go wrong. All they really need is some mini plastic stools and some bia hoy and you'd swear you were in Saigon (or Hanoi when it's bitterly cold).
Sandy Pok
This place has the best Bun Rieu (Menu Item #51) I've tried around Footscray. $10 and loaded with tofu, pork slices, fish paste slices, ground crab, etc.<br/><br/>Of note, menu item #52 is also Bun Rieu however the only difference is there's no pork slices. The Asian in me wants more out of my $10, although I must admit, the amount they gave me at the price was huge value anyway. <br/><br/>Also tried the broken rice, which was not too bad, however I can not say enough about how delicious the Bun Rieu is!

I came to Pho Tam because I was looking for Vietnamese style curry, which is not a staple item at most Vietnamese restaurants. Online, I found a list, putting Pho Tam as the recommended place for curry. It's a little off the main street in Footscray where so many other Vietnamese restaurants abound. The curry came out moderately fast, but the chicken was so soft and fall-off-the-bone that it seemed like it had been simmering a long time. Not that I'm complaining, but there was a lot of chicken, but only one piece of taro in the soup. It came served with 2 crusty buns that were perfect for sopping up the curry. I'll be coming back to try other Vietnamese classics.<br/> <br/>Update: I came back to introduce a friend to Vietnamese curry. Unfortunately, when we ordered around 6-7pm it was too late to get curry with bread since the restaurant doesn't actually have the buns and have to go to nearby bakeries to buy it when someone orders it. The downside is that if the bakeries are closed, they can't buy the bread. Instead I opted for the bun bo hue and my friend got the beef pho. The broth from the pho was rich and flavorful. I was definitely jealous since I wasn't a fan of the bun bo hue broth. It was really strong on shrimp paste flavoring that overpowered most of the aroma and flavor. Also, this is another Vietnamese restaurant that gives you chopped up lettuce, rather than a large pile of Thai basil.
Paul Daniels
Best pho outside of Vietnam. No other words needed. You know you're on a winner when it's a passing door of locals going in and out. Food is fresh, you can see it getting prepared and extremely fast.
Tom Scott
My favourite Vietnamese restaurant. Most mains cost around $10. I'm a fan of the dishes with meat, rice and soup. I didn't really enjoy their fried rice dish that much. Their avocado smoothie is predictably excellent. If getting Pho, I enjoy the version were you add raw beef to it which cooks in the soup. Quite a laid back atmosphere and there is always a seat available. Quite a healthy feed also.
TheFoodHunter
I visit here at least once a month, the Pho here never lets me down. I order the Beef combination the soup was so smooth, the side vegetable was big
JT
Best Pho yet. Bun Bo Hue also fantastic, and the Bun Mam amazing! Haven't got around to the rice or other dishes yet, but who's got the time when all the noodle soups are so great!

Great pho. Title sums up the food. Partner had a pork chop on rice. Volume wise the pho seems to be more filling but man that pork chop tasted great!

“Frequently going to Footscray to shop at Saigon Fresh Food Markets, my husband and I always note there are a ridiculous number of people sitting inside and outside of a particular Vietnamese Noodle shop on the corner. One week night, we decided to try it out. It was a good decision as the food was great."

Ambiance aside, food arrives quickly, but not suspiciously so and the staff are also easy to lock eyes, with should you need anything else. If you’re not too full, try a jackfruit or avocado smoothie. Served cold, creamy and sweet, they’re guaranteed to surprise and impress your discerning tastes.

Pho tam is a clean and modern Pho joint in Footscray. It has outdoor and indoor seating. On a nice sunny day you can easily sit outside and watch the world go by. It is also near the Little Saigon Market on a street corner At Pho tam there was a TV and other things.  The bathrooms are out the back. I went twice and both times staff were great. They were very friendly. They are great for their beef phos which I had. At $10 per bowl it was decent for a cold winters day. The broth was flavoursome and the beef was cooked to perfection. They also give you onions as well as the usual lemon and chilli. And there is a huge plate of bean shoots to add into your pho. The noodles were perfect. They were the smooth type. The second time around I did not have to pay as I was invited. It was on a quiet  and cold Friday morning and I hadn't had breakfast yet. So of course I was craving for pho. The chicken pho with young chicken egg was good. The chicken egg had been hardboiled. This time I had a mu

Tasting the chicken soup first, I was surprised at how light the MSG was in this. Instead, the stock was rich in flavour from the chicken, and not overladen with saltiness. Delicious!

that day was just about autumn's last whisper of warmth and sunnyness this year. The weather suited this dish.
Gorejess_jessii
It was okay.. Firstly, the cutlery and cups were dirty. <br/>The service was okay, the waiter seemed a bit rude, but whatever. <br/>My partner and I ordered the pork rice paper rolls, chicken pho and a combination dish. The rice paper rolls didnt appear until we'd asked twice about them. <br/>We had ordered two coca-colas and both were warm. <br/>Overall, the food was good, not fantastic. The service was meh. Also, so much chili through everything.

Excellent. Good pho. good rice. good customer service. regularly returning

Bad choice for vegetarians, no meat free options on the menu

#1 pho. Everytime I go to Footscray, i say to myself, i'll try a different place for pho. But I end up going back to Pho Tam EVERY SINGLE TIME. Goddamn, its the best pho in Melbourne. Don't tell too many hipsters, or theyll be here in droves. The girls who work there are great, quick to order, quick to serve.
Oz SituAsian
My goto place for Pho. This place nevers fail to deliver for pho. Really tasty soup that you can tell has been cooked endless hours. Clean, strong beef flavours without MSG. Only wished they had a large option because its so tasty. Broken rice is above average, but I can't go past the pho.
Danno
I just had the best pho I've ever had!!!! Number 8. Omg, amazing! And the service, wow! I couldn't believe how friendly the waitress was. I'm all for top notch customer service. keep smiling chick, we will be back!

Still my favourite. Stumbled across this place wandering through Footscray when I first moved to Melbourne. The Sliced Beef Pho noodle soup is still my favourite out of all the Vietnamese restaurants I have tried. Friendly staff, after coming here for awhile they now remember my order, and bring it out for me. <br/>The cheap price tag helps too.
Fish
Top Pho. Just your local style authentic Vietnamese restaurant. They do a fantastic chicken pho and the ice coffee was also amazing. Simple, tasty, quick and cheap. Hard not to be a big fan!

Best best best!!. We love this place to bits! We come here at least twice a month. The goat curry and beef pho are our favourites. Make sure you get the custard apple smoothie too!! 10/10
Foodbaby
Never fails to deliver. Without fail every time i visit melbourne I always come here. service is always friendly, such cheap food, absolutely delicious. the pho in canberra leaves you thirsty for days with overloaded salt msg and oil - it tastes much cleaner here. would recommend to everyone!
Kodi
Yes, it's true! The pho here is delicious. My new fave pho in Footscray
Alison S
Nom nom. My family & I used to frequent the pho places on Hopkins St until a Vietnamese friend pointed me in this direction. Over Sunday lunch there was a line of people waiting for a seat, but the owners kindly set us up outside (which was a bonus as it was a gorgeous day). My daughters loved the grilled prawn on sugarcane and hubby & I devoured our pho. Think we've found a new local with sweet viet style coffee to boot!
Lovelife_79
Love the pho, the bun and the spring rolls are the bomb!!
Ryan Chai
Best pho in town PERIOD. Great broth for the beef pho with tons of flavour and generous serving. Great service too the owners are always friendly and accomodating. If you want the real deal just head straight to this gem in Footscray. Richmond and Springvale ain't got nothing on this joint!
Nceecee
Now possibly my favorite pho in footscray. Delicious beef noodle soup, lots of flavour even before adding any condiments also good service with a smile.
Syl
Great friendly service , they have baby chairs, excellent food and very reasonable pricing . We had the seafood coleslaw , a seafood dry noodle soup and a beef with tomato rice . The stock was clean and fresh delicious ingredients used . Iv been several times and will go back . They even had the footy on the telly , what more can you ask for.

Best pho in Melbourne. Worth the drive there each time. Keep it up!

Colonel Braddocks Favourite Pho. After conducting a thorough 12 month review of nearly every Pho joint in Footscray the unanimous decision is that Pho Tam makes the best Pho Tai in town.<br/><br/>This review came at great personal risk to the team as collectively we experienced 3 bouts of dissentary and were accosted by some of Footscrays finest local charachters.<br/><br/>The Pho Tai secret is in the soup. I dont know what they put in it that makes it sooo good (and I dont want to know) but it really is the best. I always consume the whole bowl. Most places I would eat the noodles and the beef and probably leave half the soup. Not at Pho Tam. Nothing is wasted.<br/><br/>The other menu items are all pretty good too. The goat curry with bread rolls is an oriental winner that Colonel Braddock would also cross town to consume.<br/><br/>If you're really adventurous you can take your meal outside to the alfresco tables. There you can mix with the afore-mentioned indiginous Footscray locals for a truley memorable and authentic experience.<br/><br/>Pho Tam. Me likey likey.
Yin
The beef pho was very good but the three colours drink was disappointed. Chili and lemon were obviously leftovers from previous day. Overall, main dish are good but it is not a place for detail.
B
Great tasting pho, the pho broth was extremely tasty and fragranty. The smoothies are very average as they are full of blended ice and not much fruit. Love that they open at 8am for breakfast also.
Maggie
Disappointed. I ordered takeaway beef pho and spring rolls. To my surprise I was charged $21 when I picked up the meal-not sure how the price was distributed but the spring rolls certainly weren't worth $11. I wouldn't have minded the price had the pho been great but it wasn't. The broth was quite bland and the rice noodles were quite thick and gluggy-not glassy as I prefer them to be. Not a patch on my brilliant $10 local favourite in Kensington that was closed hence me trying Pho Tam. I won't do so again.
Mark
I only ever get take-out, but have never been disapointed. Consistantly good & cheap... Recipe for success.
KnuckyT
Great food served here and seems like some more authentic viet dishes like mi vit tiem delicious. I haven't tried the pho here as there seems to be other great alternatives. Besides pho is everywhere. Highly recommended.

Reliable regular. I drive across town for a good bowl of pho. The fried chicken is yummy too

Delicious! Had chicken pho and pork spring rolls. VERY speedy service, definitely coming back!

Made the mistake of not ordering pho, because that was clearly the specialty of that place - but I didn't realize it at the time, and thought it was the name of a person rather than the dish. <br/><br/>I ordered crispy chicken with fried rice (fried rice, crispy skin fried chicken, salad, colestraw with sidesoup) and a custard apple smoothie as take away, as I was running late for my next appointment. Oh and found out you don't get the colestraw with sidesoup, if you get take away. Epic fail - especially since they had a picture of it on the menu. <br/><br/>Service was minimal as expected and usual (remember: here for the food, not service), and our waitress got distracted half way through the order, showing other customers to their table. Oh and they ran out of plastic (TA) cutlery too, so I bought a packet of 20 forks from the supermarket. We won't be back.<br/><br/>The "crispy" chicken presented with orange rice, a small container of chilli fish sauce and a packet of a few slices of veggies. The chicken wasn't exactly crispy, and to me it tasted like yesterday's chicken reheated. The supermarket's deli chicken are much much nice - and you can be guaranteed they're fresh. I liked the custard apple drink, but unfortunately it tasted as artificial as Boost, or perhaps even more so.

Very happy bellies. Decided to try this place after reading good reviews. Husband and I ordered dishes to share which included sugar cane prawns with rice vermicelli, and goat curry (with bread rolls). <br/>Staff were attentive, and we especially liked how they explained how these dishes should be tackled.<br/>We ended our feast with iced vietnamese coffees (black and white), and headed home with very happy bellies.

Wanting something different for breakky - have the Pork on dry Vermicelli and a Viet style iced coffee .. Awesome !! Great eating there alone or with family/friends

Food is pretty good, pho was a stand out and the pork and vermicelli. Would wax lyrical about this place if only I didn't have a "unfortunate" experience. Even so I would probably go back

Deceiving restaurant. For years I bypassed this corner eatery due to the seedy looking characters having coffee on the sidewalk. However, my vietnamese friend duly dragged me into pho tam one night & i've been coming back ever since. the pho is msg light yet flavour ladden, and the staff always go out of their way to ensure we're happy

One of my local faves. I've eaten at Pho Tam several times and it remains (along with Dong Que) one of my favourite local restaurants.<br/><br/>All my familiar favourites are done well here - from the rice paper rolls, to their bun noodles, broken rice dishes and (of course) the pho. Don't be deceived by my brief desciptions though- the menu has a pretty extensive list of traditional Vietnamese favourites.<br/><br/>In addition, service always comes with a smile.

This restaurant serves one of the best bun Bo hue soups in Melbourne . It has sliced beef, pork, pork knuckle , blood cake, sliced pork loaf and the bit you save til last the prawn cake! This comes in a fragrant chilling lemon grass stock with noodles and herbs. Truly delicious - packs an unforgettable punch. Staff are great and all the food here is very authentic.

I liked that the pho was full of flavour and depth, which was achieved without the liberal use of MSG.
