A weekend off from eating out and at last, enjoying home cooking. But back on the road again today which means cafes, restaurants and eateries. I stopped in East Melbourne for a late breakfast at Charlie Cox. Menu has some interesting options so I chose the poached eggs and added tomato and feta on the side. To warm my chilly bones from the winters weather, a loose leaf chai with a touch of masala.
To start with the chai was excellent. Served on a bright yellow saucer, sprinkled nicely with nutmeg and hot! So tired of places that don’t heat the milk well. This was a hot chai in a large glass cup. Perfecto.
The poached eggs were cooked as I liked and the creamy feta complemented the crusty sour dough. Portion size was what I’d expect.
You can dine in or takeaway. There are some muffins or croissants if you’d like something sweet. But for me the “footy” cookies are a winner. Great for AFL footy fans - you’re kids will thank you for buying them one.
The restaurant is opposite Jolimont Station and close to the MCG so convenient if you’re attending anything at The ‘G’.
Staff are friendly and I found service fast. Had a lovely chat to Adam, one of the staff. Thank you.
Note: Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking isn’t too bad in the side streets with time limits.

Not just their presentation that impresses us; modern, chic, modern, open kitchen, very well set up ... friendly and pleasant service ... warm and comfortable.
What a perfect pre-game venue, right across from Jolimont Station and MCG Gate 2 (MCC members entrance) ...
7/10 $4.00 latte and 8/10 $4.50 tea set ... impressive San Remo Opera espresso machine.
Yes, we shall explore, pre-game. JT-15/04/2018.
What a fantastic new place in East Melbourne. The menu is both innovative and delicious with a wide variety of interesting choices that would have anyone coming back for more. The staff are friendly and extremely experienced. Fabulous coffee. Great for kids too.
