Such a nicely laid out cafe, in a convenient location in the city. With a modern decor and an open, airy feel, this is a comfortable cafe to enjoy a coffee at.
I found the service here to be really good, and our waitress was very helpful and friendly. I just had coffee and a homemade muffin, and both arrived quickly and were delicious. As this place gets quite busy, I think The Common delivers everything to keep locals happy enough to keep returning.
What a lovely cafe its big and its busy! Great service inviting! Fast and efficient coffee delivery. The coffee was well made with the use of a good coffee bean.
We were both very impressed by the welcoming and friendly staff and management
Coffee was superb and the food was well presented, fresh and plentiful.
My steak was cooked perfectly, was tender and well sized.
The wine selection while limited in range catered for the various budgets and had some quality wine by the glass
We will definitely return and recommend this place to all our associates
This cafe is situated left side from entrance at 570 of large building. Nice and smooth coffee using Veneziano Estate, mid~deep roasted Brazil coffee beans. It had very fresh aroma.
Staff was singing and seemed happy relaxing atmosphere.
I would say 4.5🌟
-0.5 was price and location
I had the salmon bagel. It was on the small side but very tasty and it was accompanied by a fresh herbed salad. My colleagues had sandwiches which looked a bit larger.
I am always dubious about city lunches but The Common has changed my mind. So happy to be able to book a table at such a busy venue! Great service, good menu selection and price points. Lunch was delicious - calamari that was super well seasoned and the linguini pasta also delicious. Will be back!
Nice space - loads of tables with a modern design.
My salmon bagel was toasted, so it was hot and crisp. The bagel itself is quite dense.
I'm not sure if the rocquet really fits in this bagel, because the bitterness is overpowering.
I quite like the cafe though, and great that it's also a bar.

A friendly team here at The Common welcomed me in and sat me down despite and were very attentive.
A nice feel about the place for an inner city cafe. I almost wish I hadn’t already eaten as the food here presented well. Instead just ordered a skinny latte, my drink of choice. The coffee arrived hot, smooth and well presented...so ticked most of my boxes. A great option if you are a fan of classic style coffee.
The Common has a mega happy hour from 1 to 7 on Fridays where you can get a pint of Carlton for only $6 and cocktails from $12 ... nice 👍🏼
Working in the building, very nice coffee everyday, new summer menu very good for me. Mornining takeaway coffee very busy around 10mins waiting.
Very good coffee and muffin, friendly service. It's all I need in a tee time. After all, I have to say there is too much noise................... F-WORD for the ridiculous at least 140 words.
Here for a coffee meeting today. Intense meeting so no photos. I had low expectations of the coffee I’d get here but surprisingly it was wonderful. Easily the best of the three coffees I had for the day. Rich, great length, creamy and utterly Melbourne. Solidly made. Service was really lovely as well and the surroundings absolutely fine. Based on my experience today, it’s a 3.8 from me.
They have the best customer service!!! Hands down the best!!! From booking, to preordering, to serving the food and to the quality of food, it was just amazing. We were all in awe with the service we received! Cheers to Tony and his team!!!
I mainly get takeaway coffees from here. They are nice and consistent.
The muffins and almond croissants are amazing too.
They do get really busy in the mornings so I use the skip app to bypass the queue.

Honestly nothing to complain about here. Decided to stop in for a business meeting. Plenty of room to spread out with a colleague at the table with our laptops. We ordered coffees and smashed avo from the breakfast menu. Food was delicious and coffee very tasty. Only criticism is that around the counter gets very crowded and hard to get around. A place I will go again
Good food and coffee. I like the pork belly it sooooo delicious. It in the office building, quite busy but service is good. A good place to go.
Had a casual late breakfast with a mate earlier today and would be happy to wonder in again in future. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff are friendly and reasonably efficient, the food servings were quite generous and good value for money and the drinks were tasty. The half mark deduction from my rating was for the hot chocolate being slightly on the lukewarm side, but a minor detail in an otherwise excellent visit.
We are spoilt for choice in the cbd so expectations are high! Coffee was good, and menu prices reasonable. Food was ok, grated apple on the eggs benedict a bit weird, makes sense if you have the pulled pork potentially? Old avo on the green breakfast ruined the flavors. Would come back to try something else.
A frequent weekly lunch spot for me. The staff are always so friendly and inviting.
I normally get my standard panko crumbed chicken sandwich accompanied with the mila's apple juice (seriously one of the best apple juice's you will ever have). Typically I would be getting these take away and running up stairs back to work but when I have dined in and had there other menu items they are also of great quality and very fairly priced for a dine in CBD lunch. Would recommend as a great, fast lunch option.

Popped in for a quick coffee in between meetings. The coffee was good and the service was friendly and attentive. Wish they carried Coke products...I need my Diet Coke and I can't stand Pepsi-Max!
i was sitting in the corner of the cafe and waiting for my friends to come.
such as good place to relax under the business building.
the food was so my type tho..:)
Coffee is fantastic
Food is awesome

So many beautiful stories
Makes my day
Lovely and warm in winter
Somewhere to go on Friday night
Reallyyyyy nice coffee made here... Just about the only good long black I've found around this side of town. The lunch menu looks good, but seems kind of pricey.
They serve nice coffee. We happened to visit there and ordered coffee with cakes. Staff is nice and welcoming. The deco is good as well. We were seated at the side of Windows and really made us enjoy the afternoons
I'm a regular at this place for breakfast meetings with clients. It's loud, fresh and busy. I love the atmosphere. Sure you have to talk louder do your colleagues can hear you but it feels good being here. The service is prompt, the coffee is okay (could do with a stronger blend imho) and the food is good quality. I can't ever go past the big breakfast. It's a winner. The sausage is full of flavour. All in all its a good place to visit. If you want it a bit quieter, head down the very back of the restaurant.

This little gem brings a spring to your step. And given that it’s on a major thoroughfare, I expect patronage to grow steadily. And if the food is anything to go by, then you are in for a treat!. These people were on the ball. The moment we arrived, they were quick to offer us a seat and quickly cleared the table to ensure that our seats were easily catered for the number of attending guests.
Coffee in the morning $4.5 and a small bite of a ham and cheese croissants $6.0 and eggs Benedict $17.0 at The Common, located across from the AMP building on Bourke Street in the heart of the burn city insurance hub. The place is bustling and we can see why...great service provided by great staff, great coffee and food accompanied by a vibrant and light filled dining floor. We were here for lunch a few months back and had the fish of the day, crispy skin salmon $22.0 which was delicious! Think we'll try some more of thier menu again as it looked amazing. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!
This place is conveniently located across the road and is probably the best brunch place I’ve had around work. Truth be told, its the only brunch place on this side of town. There was 3 of us and despite us all being little asians, we eat! Therefore 3 dishes were ordered and only 3 empty plates remained at the end.
Had a take coffee here today and it was really good. Not too hot so I could drink it straight away, nice flavour and friendly staff.
And quick service for a busy city cafe.
Been walking past this for a long time now and finally decided it was time to have a crack at it. Didn't realise this place was so darn popular for lunch as my friend had to wait a couple of minutes to be seated for a table of 2 (with myself being late).
First up, didn't have any coffee, so no comments there, but the food we ordered came relatively quickly and was quite tasty. I had the roasted salmon fillet, whilst my friend had the chicken burger.
Salmon portion was decent and cooked the way I like it, with a little pinkish raw in the middle, seared nicely on the skin with a helpful covering of sauce and vegetables. Helped myself to the chips and nothing out of the ordinary, but at times the salt seemed heavy handed. Whilst I was asked if I wanted sides or a drink, I never felt that it was pushed onto me, so I thought it was a part of their service.
All in all, happy with the place, and would be happier if the meals were a tad cheaper. My dish was $26...
Just AWESOME!
The Common is my go-to place for coffee and eats in the CBD. I can be a real coffee snob and I must say I have not had a bad coffee in the past year or so that I have been going there. Always fast and consistent. The staff are super welcoming, friendly and attentive. There is a great selection of hot and cold, fresh food to order from and the muffins always wow me. The decor is comfortable and relaxing (bordering on hipster industrial) and there is plenty of seating. I highly recommend this place for coffee, lunch or catching up for a business meeting. I think they may even crank up the bar on a Thursday and Friday night.
Super attentive service
The breakfast menu was great - small range of choices so easy to pick what you wanted
The green breakfast was filling and flavoursome with great contrasting flavours and textures
I had lunch here again today. I just want to commend you on your excellent customer service. The menu is well thought out and the prawn puttanesca is a favourite of mine.

First visit!! Very friendly and engaging service!! Amazing coffee!! Ruben and chicken sandwiches are good value. The side of fries finish it off brilliantly.
Try their Caesar Salad, with the crumbed bits, soft boiled egg and parmesan cheese. Wow this is the best I've ever had, should be on the @570 Portal!
Fantastic place - the food is fantastic and the staff are so friendly. Best place of its kind in Melbourne hands down! Great to see a new restaurant / bar kicking goals like this!
Being an out of stater, I stumbled across this cafe looking for lunch. And the staff where so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the muffins very appetizing. Will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Melbourne. It's definitely worth checking out.
Too slow!
The coffee is pretty good and the food reasonable but the staff definitely need to lift their game on getting sit in and take away coffee's out. The places around that area cater for office workers who don't have a lot of time and these guys fall behind.
Staff often seem stressed.
Have had breakfast a few times here. Always enjoyable. Staff are friendly and the service was great. The coffee is high quality. Would recommend the green breakfast bowl.
Came here for lunch following an 'eat club' promotion. The food here was exceptional particularly for the price paid. Ordered the Funghi risotto which was both presented well and tastes equally as impressive. Meals were large enough to leave dealing full and service staff were attentive and prompt. Will be back again!

Furthermore, I really loved their bottles of water. It was a great big bottle that you didn’t feel you had to keep asking for refills. And post meal, the clean up was just as quick. I appreciated not being hurried out even though they patrons hanging out the door.
I suffered from food envy. I really did. The Cheeseburger that KD had, looked and smelled really delicious.
Besides the pork belly was not what I expected. First of all, I cannot, repeat, can not fault them on their presentation. For a restaurant that delivers food that quickly, I was amazed at the attention to detail the chef had (hats off to you).
The bread was quite scrumptious and the coleslaw was light, refreshing and really tasty. Then again, anything in mayo is a delight to consume.
The pork belly. I mean, I had my reservations until the first bite. The crackling was tough but the meat was so tender and juicy that it literally melted in your mouth. Of course… once you got over the hard crackling.
But you know what, I am willing to forgive this slight. The juicy corn, spicy dip and gerkins made up for it!
Even though it’s near such a busy road, the interior was well designed and sound proof enough that the conversation, even subtle whispers could be heard between the two attending parties. The interior was really amazing. I loved loved loved the design. It was well laid out and the coffee order/pay area was well placed.
Look, for the city, this place is on par. It’s not on the cheaper side nor is it too exhorbatant. It was…just right. I felt that it was spot on.
Overall, I liked this place. I would recommend everyone I know to go here. Given that this place is in a very convinient location between my office buildings, I anticipate this will become a regular lunch spot for my work colleagues and myself.
Excellent service, vegan/gf friendly, great coffee!! - would highly recommend!
After coming straight from the airport with suitcases, we stopped into ‘The Common’ to see if it would be appropriate for coffee and gluten-free/vegan friendly breakfast. The manager was quick to welcome us and seat us towards the back of the cafe where there was room to sit by our suitcases. Impressed by the menu - fritters, smashed avo, breakfast bun, vegetarian stack, I was spoiled for choice. The portion sizes were generous and the prices quite reasonable for a CBD breakfast of this standard. Both plates were presented beautifully and served HOT. Coffees were strong and satisfied the caffeine hit. We came at quite a busy time - and the service was quite fast. Overall would definitely come here again!!
This is where I headed for an after work coffee each and every day. Probably some of the best staff that I have come across in any cafe . They were always engaging and up for a chat. Good memories.
Lovely staff, the chef knows how to cook some shrooms let me tell ya! Delicious!
Love taking my clients there for a coffee catch up and the lunch menu is delicious too. Extremely friendly, fast and effective service and they really make you feel like you're VIP. Always greeted with a smile and goes the extra mile. Highly recommend. Kudos to the cafe manager!
Just arrived in Melbourne nice and early on a cold morning looking for good coffee and breakfast. Stumbled across this place and the service was great from the moment we stepped in the door. Coffee is amazing! So glad to have walked into our first Melbourne stop and have great coffee. I had scrambled eggs on toast and my sister had the breaky bun. For something so simple it was really good.
We will be back again for this visit for sure! Thanks Chad and team :-)
Amazing breakfast and superb service!! I travel a great deal for work and finding good places with delicious food and great service can be challenging. This place is outstanding. Food is consistently fresh and delicious and the staff are amazing! Try the French Toast; nothing like it anywhere. No matter how busy they are they’re friendly. They remember you, what you like, and are delighted to see you. Great place. A little gem in the city.
