Review Silks - Melbourne

Andrew O
Amazing food with authentic Chinese flavors. Staffs are very nice and offered me a birthday cake. The deco is very grand, a different vibe from most fancy restaurants in Melbourne, but in a good way. Will come back again.

It’s expensive but it’s worth every penny of it. The menu is not a big menu and when you look at it, it really doesn’t show anything too special BUT what I really like is that every dish that was presented on our table was cooked so deliciously. Service of course was great, I means it’s Silks, you’d expect it and they delivered it so no surprise there. Give it a try 😊

We had lunch today with my family in the private dining room and we are very pleased with the excellent service and superb food today. As expected of fine dining places, portions may not necessarily be big but the food is fresh, and the views from the private dining room is fantastic overlooking the yarra river. We are also very pleased with William's service today who has helped us top up our water, tea, wine continuously. Thank you to the team and will be back again!

Had the set menu & everything was delicious! Staff was accommodating and food was great. Our favourites were the baked crab, char siu black cod and wagyu truffle.

Silks is a beautiful Chinese restaurant. Very premium and spacious restaurant with private dining rooms and a large dining area which is well themed. Service is top notch as you'd expect and prompt. Menu is well thought out and the food is just Devine. Probably some of the best dumplings I'm Melbourne and the meats just melt in your mouth. Definitely a place to experience at least once if you can

Pretty good, we had the lobster set menu for lunch $199 per head with a glass of champagne. 9 courses all up. Courses were of good size you won’t leave hungry. All plated up beautifully, the black ink pasta stunning. Lobster a tad overcooked however still delicious.

Sublime meal, excellent service, and breathtaking views. Definitely one of the most expensive meal we've had in a while, but that's where all that entertainment money saved during the last two years was put to good use

My first time dinning at silks and I was blown away with the food and service The layout of the restaurant was beautiful and well thought out.. it’s a great restaurant for a date or that someone special I couldn’t fault the food and service it was perfect

A beautiful restaurant in Crown Casino overlooking the Yarra river, Silks is a must try if you are a fan of Chinese cuisine. The food is delicious and very authentic, further accentuated by fresh ingredients. It’s always a pleasure dining here, despite the price (trust me, it’s worth it!).

Quality Chinese cuisine with a view! <br/>The high ceilings and windows provided a wonderful open atmosphere with a spectacular view of the Yarra river. <br/>Enjoyed great dining experience thanks to lovely and attentive staff. <br/>The cocktail menu is rather impressive with so many I wanted to try. The highlight would definitely be the trio dumplings, in particular the scallop dumpling. The sautéed lobster with egg was definitely unique and tasteful, and of course my favourite also was the Peking duck which was very tender. <br/>Thank you for a great experience.

If you’re wanting to eat Cantonese in Melbourne, go here. Vastly superior to Flower Drum, with a nice view overlooking the water and a relaxed unhurried atmosphere. The crab meat and egg drop corn soup was flavoursome, served at the right temperature and a very good commencement. The lobster spring rolls were fantastic, serving as a very good accompaniment. Moving on, the honey mustard crispy pork and marinated bbq octopus were served and the taste was nice, be aware the octopus is served cold and the pork is served lukewarm. The highlights for me were both main courses, comprising the black Angus tenderloin with sautéed spinach in black bean and the scallops enrobed in prawn mince. The beef was cooked to perfection whilst the black bean wasn’t overpowering. The scallops were just fantastic and a must order. The meal was finished with a typical banana fritter which didn’t go astray, and the Piero SSB was a nice bottle to have along with the meal. Great way to spend an unhurried lunch or dinner overlooking the Yarra from Level 1.

Bit underwhelming, oysters that came out were smallest I’ve ever seen. No complimentary sweets either

Easy booking online and was fully booked. There was sessions about 6pm for 2 hours. <br/><br/>The serving was sensational and very professional. <br/><br/>The atmosphere is what you feel from the movie “crazy rich Asians”. <br/><br/>The barramundi was fresh. Peking Duck was a bit average. Over all a great experience . Meals were expensive cost about $300 for 4 dishes.

Service: 2/5<br/>Taste: 2/5<br/>Value: 1/5<br/>Ambience: 4/5<br/>Took my partner to dinner here last night. Seeing as this restaurant was located in Crown and was supposedly a 'fine dining' restaurant we had high expectations, but these expectations were all let down by the end of the night. The food was way overpriced, roughly $30+ for each dish and the 'to share' dishes all came in small servings. The service was mediocre however one of our waitresses was VERY rude, and each dish honestly had no difference in taste from your average Chinese restaurant. You could honestly go to any casual dining Chinese place and expect the exact same taste as the dishes we had gotten (and for much cheaper might I add).  The only redeeming thing about the restaurant was the ambience, but that doesn't nearly make up for everything else.  Overall, going to the restaurant was a huge waste of money and its safe to say that my partner and I will never come back.

We came here for dimsum and upon entering we are pleasantly surprised with the interior design and feel of the restaurant. Unfortunately we can't say the same for the food. It was mediocre and lacking any special factor for the price we are paying. Service is top notch as expected.<br/>
Sonya
I loved eating at this place. Had 100% quality table service, along with great asian food for yum cha. Kudos to the waiter who kept refilling my water before I drunk it all. I highly recommend, my favourite dish was the chicken siu mai dumplings or the served vegetables.

The staff here are quite friendly and easygoing. The atmosphere here is really nice. it’s a beautiful restaurant and great for families, couples or even friends to feel comfortable in. <br/>the food comes out quickly and it’s amazing. Worth the price. I love this place and I would love to go again and again. <br/>Great place for business or meetings. It’s not very loud and the waiters/waitresses are very attentive.

Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Ambiance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Value: ⭐️⭐️<br/><br/>Fantastic service from beginning to end. We decided to go with the $148 tasting menu. <br/><br/>The oysters were very fresh. I particularly enjoyed the dumplings - the skin was perfect and translucent. The sauce of the king prawn noodles was delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked and very tender. <br/><br/>Overall, a fantastic experience with beautiful views of the riverbank.

Came to Silks for a friends celebration. We were seated in the Mongolian Tent. <br/><br/>The atmosphere was nice and relaxed..however so was the attentiveness of staff for drink orders and drinks taking 30 minutes to arrive on the table. At one point we would just order a few drinks at the one time so when they finally arrive our last drink would have been finished. <br/><br/>The food was nice. We had the set menu in the tent. However, it wasn’t something I would rave on about. Nor was it worth the money we paid. <br/><br/>Like place to come once but not in any rush to come back.

Dined for yumcha special and dinner. Food was mediocre and service could be better to be honest. Difficult to get waiting staff’s attention for service or to pay the bill. View is as good as most other Crown premium restaurants. Ambience is top notch and tables are spaced out well.

I and families came for lunch at Silk yesterday to celebrate my husband’s cousin’s engagement. First of all, thumbs up for the waitresses for being professional, polite and warm. They had such light hands in helping us to arrange the Chinese traditional engagement trays full of goods and offered us to take our photos. We had a private dining room with a breathtaking view of Yarra river with the autumn leaves. We have 12 course meals which I attached here along with my review. Majority of us agreed the stars of the day were the stir fried Japanese scallops and scallop with minced prawn, followed by the pecking duck whose portions were generous. We also love the fried bean curd with mushroom. Overall, it was a pleasant family dining experience and I would like to recommend this restaurant for families who have special occasions to celebrate, or may simply want to have a catch-up over a good food and ambience. Well done, Silk team.

Lovely restaurant with beautiful decor. Cute little booths perfect for a date night. A very nice fine dining experience.<br/><br/>Food was well prepared and tasty however may not be worth the high prices. Perhaps will not be returning so soon eager for it considering it so. Presentation also was very simple.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, staff were not as attentive or as happy to serve as one would hope. <br/><br/>Regardless, still an enjoyable experience and a lovely night out to enjoy crown and Southbank
SusanJ
High end Chinese restaurant. It has got the best decor, wonderful view and attentive friendly service. It may not suit for everyday lunch or dinner 😜 as price is matching the high end too . Definitely worth a try . <br/>
Sezza
It was okay. Nothing to shout about. It is like your normal chinese restaurant out there which you could get out there for a cheaper price. Service wasn't that good, they were rushing us to go while we were enjoying the Lio dance.
Grendal
Beautiful location and views as to be expected in this part of Crown. Interior decor and bathrooms were very nice. Service was also good. <br/><br/>Given the price of the food, I was very disappointed by the quality. Everything felt mediocre, and to be honest, apart from some sprinkles of caviar here and there, I would have guessed it came from China Bar. We ordered Oysters, Lobster, Crumbed Tofu and a Vegetarian Crispy Noodle dish.

Silks at Crown. One of the best Chinese restaurants in Melbourne. Highly recommended for business dinner. It is a bit pricey for casual dining. Food is good and good service with great ambience.
Iris
Have visited silks twice so far and loved both experiences! I had the yum cha menu both times. Highlights for me were the egg tarts, congee and pan fried pork dumplings.

First impression of this restaurant is it’s luxury, as it is on the Lv1 of crown, we do expect that. However when it comes to food, it’s really disappointing. From entree to desert, none stands out. Comparing with the food in some on street fast food stores or other restaurants, it’s too ordinary. None of the taste gives us a surprise, other than a pepper steak main dish, however in a bad way. The “steak” is made from brisket, that made the whole dish ruined. Medium rare brisket doesn’t have the texture of a steak, plus the pepper sauce is really light, the whole dish became untouched by most of us.

The setting, food and service at Silks is worth the investment of dining there, and it is a significant investment. The photos will show and describe what we ate. Everything course was very good quality food, prepared and presented very well. Pick of the night was the lobster sang choy bow. So good. I didn’t like the dessert because I don’t like coconut or jelly and the dessert was coconut jelly. I thought the glasses it came in were a bit standard and plain too given the other dinnerware was so beautiful (see photo of ornate place setting). But they presented it nicely in the glass just the same. The service was fantastic. The waiters were very attentive. I would return to try some different dishes next time.

We enjoyed a few mains shared in one of the nicer restaurants in Crown. The Roasted Peking Duck wrapped was very good, the duck being succulent and juicy. Our black angus beef with asparagus & black pepper was tender and a delightful dish. The only minor disappointment was the scallops enrobed in prawn mince, it was lightly battered and not everyone’s preference. Dessert was an excellent Angel in Love ice cream (Mövenpick) or Almond coated banana fritters with butterscotch, vanilla bean ice cream. <br/><br/>Excellent service all night, was very pleased with our dinner at $65 per head. 4.5/5<br/>

This place is a hit and miss. Some dishes are exceptional, some not and some are horrible. Given the price you pay in this establishment, it is not acceptable. Hence the 2 stars rating. <br/>Note: the service here is pretty good.

Been to Silks on 4-5 occasions for business and leisure dinners, the service is impeccable each and every time, along with the view and ambience, they definitely do not fail to impress. The food however varies, sometimes food tastes amazing and sometimes you will encounter a dish that just does not do it, and it’s not because other places have been heavy handed with MSG, more like the balance was not right. Quality of ingredients however have always been top notch every time.

Wonderful experience and food. Love all staff members and customise service for company! :) thousand of thanks! We definitely back again. Specially event function.

Ruined my 21st birthday.<br/>In short, waited an hour and a half after ordering for food and nothing arrived, despite everyone around us being served. Shocking, and ruined a very important birthday for me, would never want to come back.<br/>

Mixed feelings. Arrived a few minutes early for our booking and was told our table wasn’t ready for another 10-15 minutes. We got seated, ordered drinks and food. We ordered some tea and the waiter poured our tea and then left with the tea pot. ( you might or might not know, but tea is unlimited refills. We didn’t know until the end of our dinner and that’s when we started to get more refills of our tea). Food was below average. For the price we paid, I was expecting at least some sort of wow moment. Cocktails and mocktails were average too.

Nice view, very good crispy pork and roast duck, but the steamed oysters are little bit salty and the braised pork is a bit dry. Staffs were very friendly

Booked a dinner for an anniversary, and was excited to try the many options available on the menu. Service was great, until I needed to get the attention of the waitress, because at this point we noticed 3 REAL mice darting around underneath the empty tables gathering leftovers in site, before scampering away towards the private dining section. <br/><br/>When I finally got the attention of the floor manager, she apologised profusely, but acknowledged she was aware of these vermin that plagued their restaurant. For the rest of the evening I was perplexed that this could have happened at such a premium restaurant in the Crown and staff having full knowledge of this.
EGG BABE
Very luxury place with good environment. But I have to say comparing with the food quality and price, I would not want to come anymore. I prefer lucky chen to have a better taste to spend 500$ to have a dinner. Hope the service can improve as well.

Have been here three times over the last few years! I love dining here, specially when we get to see the city view! <br/><br/>Though I have always enjoyed the entire experience, I have been a but disappointed with the food (vegetarian)! <br/><br/>If you are looking for a very high end experience, then this is the place to go to!

Great atmosphere! Beautiful restaurant. Loved fine dining. Absolutely loved and enjoyed the food. Very authentic Chinese food. Extensive wine and drinks menu, dessert was amazing. Great customer service. Would definitely recommend!

Very high quality food in lovely setting. I would highly recommend Silks. The roast duck is a stand out and the prawn spring rolls! Will be back

This is my second visit to Silks and I just love this place. This is a fantastic Premium Fine Dining place. I had organized my birthday with my friends a group of 10 and loved the service / care the staff provided us. The interior & ambience is impeccable. Coming to Food we ordered Spicy Calamari, Springrolls, Peking Duck, Enoki Mushroom Dish, Prawn Dumplings & Sanchow Bow. We also ordered some cocktails & beers too. ( Love their Virgin Mary) The main were served after giving a considerable gap between the first course. For mains we ordered- FriedRice, Mapo Tofu, Mushroom and Beancurd Dish, black beans sauce pepper chicken.. <br/>I couldn't complain about any dish. They all were so good. <br/>To end it of they presented my birthday cake with Sparkles and a birthday song. I just felt so loved. Thank you once again. We will surely be back!

Have frequented Silks a number of times and the food never disappoints. Staff are always attentive and pleasant and the ambience is just a notch above most restaurants in their league.

We dined on the Lobster “Sung Choi Bao”, which I think Silks has been serving for close to 20 years. Always exceptional. Crystal skin prawn dumpling, Prawn and chicken siu mai, Vegetarian jade dumpling were perfectly steamed and extremely tasty. Roasted Peking duck pancakes, the best I’ve ever had. Riverine beef tenderloin sautéed with honey black pepper, crispy cloud ear with fried rice to finish. If I only knew how to get beef that tender, I would cook this for myself! Fantastic experience all round, and look forward to dining there again.

This is a place Hungry Tum and I have frequented and been disappointed nearly every time. It is expensive but more on that later. We visited this establishment after spending the weekend at Crown. <br/><br/>We had for entree which was steamed vegetarian dumplings. They were ok the green colour was slightly off putting. We also had vegetarian san Choi bow. This was prepared quickly but the waiter left it at the station for 8 - 9 minutes. It came cold. <br/><br/>I had a vegetarian sweet corn soup and that was OK. For main my wife and daughter had stir fried noodles, mushroom and tofu and I had Patagonian tooth fish. The fish came out Lukewarm and noodles were drowned in sauce. <br/><br/>The one dish they got perfect was a small bowl of steamed rice. <br/><br/>A poor meal and then they charged me $190!! With no alcohol served and only one main course. <br/><br/>A complete rip off and I think because I am not Asian the service is second rate. <br/><br/>Please avoid. Better off at flower drum.
~Happy Neko~
Been back to Silks multiple times for yumcha, all the dishes are prepared to order but definitely worth the wait 😋😋 Some may complain it's about $2-3 more per item compared to other yumcha, but you are paying for better quality and atmosphere definitely worth the $$ especially if you wanna impress some with affordable budget 😉😉<br/><br/>Highly recommended the lobster dumpling 😍😍<br/>Best mango pudding in Melbourne ❤️<br/><br/>Best yumcha in melb!!
Ananya Singhal
A very luxurious and well served meal!<br/><br/>We had a large group and the service for all of us was spectacular. We had window facing tables, so had the CDB and the gas torches for a view. <br/><br/>The food was well presented and served. Small gaps, like no sauces with the dim sum, were quickly resolved and never repeated. <br/><br/>The crispy Peking duck is amazing as are their mussels. The Ma P.O. tofu lacked flavour. <br/><br/>The best item to eat was the truffle fries rice! Incredible!!<br/><br/>Worth it if you want an exclusive Chinese meal experience
Ilovefoodsomuch
Naturally being in crown it's more expensive compared to the other Chinese restaurants around yet the service and food is only marginally better if not the same. Spacious seating it is perfect for special occasions or business meetings wouldn't come for any other reason.
Grace Liu
Fine dining with my relatives.<br/>All of their food are in small portion however they service pretty slow so it kinda makes us feel full at the end.<br/>Good services, super nice food and definitely will go again!<br/>
Melzylee121
Really disappointed!! My family and I ordered a few dishes to share and they were all incredibly salty or lacking in flavour. My 3 year old daughter who loves noodles wouldn't even finish one bowl of their seafood egg noodles. For chinese cuisine, the food lacked taste and was really bland. Tbh, I think you get more authentic and genuine flavours from restaurants in box hill, glen waverley and chinatown at a fraction of the cost. We are spoilt for asian cuisine choice in Melbourne so for all the foodies out there, my recommendation is to give this place a miss. <br/>On the positive side, our waitress was polite and friendly. However, it was very unprofessional how some of the staff seemed to be having issues and were discussing it in plain sight of all the patrons. <br/>
Good Food Good Mood
Now this is premium fine dining. I had organised to come for dinner with 5 of the girls for my birthday and they started us off with a complimentary round of champagne. Talk about classy memorable service. They finished the night by bringing me out a little cake with a happy birthday plaque, the staff were impeccable!<br/>The interior and ambiance is the definition of resplendent; gorgeous cutlery, beautiful views, soft traditional music and an authentic Chinese decor. The opulent tent is something quite special and unique and makes this a perfect place for a special occasion.<br/>Cantonese is not my favourite cuisine as I tend to find it more understated (read bland) than the more punchy bolder flavours of other Asian cuisines like Thai or Vietnamese but this was really elegant and delicate refined food. I had the crispy chicken with honey walnuts which was truly delicious and the stunning setting really elevated the experience. The crystal skin prawn dumpling were also exquisite. A must visit at least once
Happyley
Opulent setting with a large private Mongolian tent in the middle. Food is cooked well, especially the live seafood. The entrees, especially the crab shell is cooked well and delicately balanced. Service is very attentive and have a good knowledge of the wine list. Downside is the price- very expensive for food which you could probably get for 30% cheaper in other Chinese restaurants. <br/>Would return on special occasions and if you want to avoid the other loud Chinese restaurants around town.
MrMena
Overall, the food was good but nothing special. The view adds to the overall experience of this classy restaurant but the rice was too dry. I'll be back to give it another try.

DO: The yum cha special on weekdays. Order the noodles and dumplings. <br/><br/>DON'T: Be afraid to ask for extra food, we ordered an extra lobster dumpling. <br/><br/>TIP: Sit near the window and go at lunch on a weekday - no line and no reservation required. It's absolutely chocca block on weekends
Junie Li
Booked a private room for grandma's 80th bday. Service is good and the view is amazing..the only thing made us upset the most is the standard of the food.. 12 of us cannot even finish one single dish because the taste...quite a waste but...really can't help..<br/>well..with that much of money we've spent ,I think it's not worth it indeed..but thank you for serving us.
Lucy Nguyen
Went here for yum cha, amazing food, dumplings was so fresh and delicious. One of the best yum Cha's I've ever had, definitely recommend. <br/>Highlights were the lobster dumplings, crab dumplings, pork wontons in chilli oil, chicken feet, scallop siu mai and those fried calamari 👌

I went to there for my birthday dinner. I have to say this was the most disappointed birthday dinner I've ever had. This restaurant definitely overrated. The food tasted like the food from the food court ,very average for how much we paid which was ridiculous. The staff always chatting in the restaurant in their own language ,it was kind of rude and annoying me a lot. The most ridiculous part was when we were paying the bill the girl requested the tips. Omg really ? Well.. if you guys did good job ,we will definitely give some tips but for this kind of service . No way !

Was looking forward to our dining experience at Silks. We have been to most restaurants at Crown such as Nobu, Koko etc. Considering the location and pricing Silks is you would expect a certain level of customer service as their is so much to choose from at Crown. Silks Restaurant is set out well and we had a booth which was lovely. Unfortunately the service was unbelievably terrible. We ordered the set menu so we could experience some of their wonderful dishes.  In doing this you would expect an explanation of each dish at least as it was served. One of the waiters was inexperienced or not bothered and would 'dump' the dish on our table and just walk off!!!!!<br/>So obviously the next dish we had to engage him to explain the next course with his limited English. The food was ok but not exciting. The experience would have been more enjoyable if the staff engaged with you and were more professional. Will not be recommending this venue.
Jimba
If you're hungry, order two mains or you will be hungry. Three of use ordered a soup each and three mains. They were tasty, but tiny. So I plan on going home and eating some toast.
Ashley Lim
Food is not too bad! However, the customer service makes the whole dining experience unpleasant. Staff talk in foreign language loudly in the dining space, which reflects bad customer service in a fine dining restaurant. Sit us down and asked us for drink order straight away without providing any menu. Asked for drink menu, staff provided food menu but without drink menu. It is just midweek, not busy in the restaurant but having such customer service is just not enjoyable at all!
Julycheee
We had the private room with two big tables for a special occasion. The service was impeccable, and the views were amazing. Unfortunately the food was so below average I was speechless. Usually fine dining restaurants are at least average, but this was probably some of the worst Chinese (either authentic, modern, fusion or whatever else) food I've had in a restaurant. The first course, sung choi bao, was probably the only highlight, and it was quite tasty. The dim sum were completely falling apart. The crab meat and drop egg corn soup had too much cornflour and was really REALLY bland. The peking duck pancake was nice but average. The prawn and beef dishes were unbelievably salty that even rice didn't help. There was little disagreement with the people around me that the food was bad, especially for such a high end restaurant. Apart from location, there wasn't much we enjoyed at Silks.
Yourmelbournefoodguide
The perfect place for a special occasion - this place is exquisitely elegant in its fit out and has impeccable service, but most of all has the most amazing food. My favourite restaurant in Melbourne - and my favourite dish would have to be the lobster with garlic (worth the pennies)
Cindy
I don't understand why its can be a high class restaurant. The food looks okay but just like any Chinese restaurants, nothing special , but much more pricy than others. Service is really terrible ~ very disappointed with this one.
Lily
Always delicious Cantonese dishes and great service! Their seafood stir fry is a must - fresh large prawns and scollops with the freshest veggies! Another must have is their Peking duck - the thin handmade pancakes are one of the best I've had in Melbourne! We used to come here every Chinese New Year but decided against it as the menu has gotten ridiculously expensive, which is a shame!
Tanya
It was the worst experience at such a high class dining resturant. It was a rush decision to dine at Silks last night as the birthday girl forgot to book any restaurant. It was also surprising that when they serve the cake with two tiny firework sticks, which is very thoughtful. However, we had asked for million times for water until they finally served. Dishes were fine but did not worth the price I reckoned. The manager said they don't do takeaway which is fine. And we paid, ready to go, watching them clear the table. The waitress took the rest of the food to their working table (the tall one) which is just behind us. <br/><br/>THEN THE MOST TERRIBLE THING HAPPENED.<br/><br/>I saw them fill four bowls with rice from the pot we did not finish. At first my friends and I thought they might just have it themselves coz it is common in Chinese restaurants. But I witnessed the waitress walked straight to another table with a tray of these four bowls of vegetarian fried rice. <br/><br/>We were shocked, and wth?<br/><br/>I regreted not taking a video because that would be more convincing. This is all true. People pay$$$$ for leftover food from another table at SILKS. We felt extremely disgusted as we wondered if we were having leftover too. <br/><br/>This is very disappointing as Silks is a prestigious restaurant in Crown. <br/><br/>PS: One of my friend did not truly believe that they would have done so, as she faced back to the serving table. So she went to check if the pot was empty afterwards. AND IT WAS. The pot was just lying there with all other dishes we had. There was no point that they only cleared the pot. Totally speechless. Shame on them.

Celebrated my Mum's birthday at Silks with the $158.00 banquet. Our seats were by the window so we got a nice view of the river and city landscape. Service was really good at the start as 4 of our courses came our promptly one after another as we finished each. One of the waiters helped us take good photos by the window as well by adjusting the curtains. Unfortunately the service went downhill when we were waiting for our mains which took almost an hour to arrive. By that time, all the diners from larger tables were gone and only tables of two left. My mum told me the chefs probably concentrated on serving the larger tables first then the smaller ones because of the quantity of food. Luckily the night ended well with our desserts as the manager brought each of our mango pudding with mum's one having a candle on it. He sang happy birthday to mum which I found awkward and cute at the same time. He also gave us both complimentary birthday sparklings for us to enjoy with our dessert.<br/><br/>Overall, some of the courses in the banquet were delicious while the others are just good. The courses I enjoyed the most were the Baked Crab Shell, Peking Duck Pancake, Pan-fried Patagonian Toothfish Fillet and Mango Pudding. The other dishes were just good and not that extraordinary. The Coral Trout fillet course could do with some sauce on the side to make it more interesting and delicious. There was a good variety of drinks in the wine list. I enjoyed my Moscato a lot and my mum thinks so to. The interior of restaurant is really nice as there was spacious balcony for people to stand outside for a bit of fresh and the bathroom felt like it was part of a rich person's home. It was a good fine dining experience, but it just needs a little bit of improvement with the service.

this place is supposed to be good with thoughtful service. however, the night we went may be busy for them. the dishes are very slow, understandable. but too few waitors to serve customers. one staff put the fish down and made the source of other dish pulled out to my friend's hand, then without saying anything, he just went away! unbeliveable in a hospitality industry! always need to ask them to fill the tea and wine. People can enjoy much better service for this price at other places.

I came here many years ago and had a fabulous meal , so I was excited at the prospect at returning for dinner. Came with work colleagues who work in hospitality . Very plush interior , warmly greeted by the host. Great river view, unfortunately the waiting staff at our table ,very inexperienced and struggled with their english. The food was underwhelming. Again ,when you charge a lot of$$ then there is for me an expectation of high standard of quality. There are many more places where the food is better and at a fraction of the cost. Disappointed
JeannetN
Great ambiance and lovely service. The food was of a nice quality and cooked well. We had the lunch banquet where the food was well spaced out and didn't seem to end.. it wasn't bad but nothing was extraordinary..for $88 per person for lunch banquet, I wouldn't say its value for money or a must-try.
G
Had a business lunch here last Friday. We had a table overlooking the yarra river which was great. The staff were very attentive and foods were quite balanced. Very good place for a lunch meeting.
Erling Breaden
We were a group of 12 and had a private room at lunch time with a nice view of the city and Yarra. Decor and ambiance was classy. The service was lousy and were were the only people in the restaurant that I could see. We had to look for a waiter to get drinks sometimes. The food was ok but value for money? I can only imagine we were paying at least half for the view.
AsianFoodLover
We heard about Silks through a Friend and thought we would give it a try. Overall, the food is very much over-priced but service was great. Recommendation, is to go in when you are super hungry.
Max
It's been a couple of years since I've been here but went on Saturday night. The food is nice and variety is good. Staff were reAlly good and attentive, recommended certain dishes and wine. However I did find it over priced. It's nice for a change but the price is its downer but I guess rent at the Casino wouldn't be cheap either.

Chose Silk's for my birthday and I was quite let down 😔 the food was average and so was the service. We ordered our favorites as well as the wagu beef dish which caught my eye at $188 which turned out to be chewy. So disappointing. I was was expecting top grade marbling, melt In your mouth beef. Didn't happen. Waiters were attentive at first, but as soon as tables started to fill, they looked frazzled and we had to hail them down when needed. The waiters barely spoke English, a little frustrating at times, I asked for the menu at one point to order desert, the waiter brought me my bill 😳 that was our cue to leave. It was funny! I was just expected a bit more effort from this place, the foods not the best, way better Chinese around, the service is sloppy, needs refining and attention to detail, especially when this establishment comes with such a price tag.

Over-priced....with very ordinary service and fine dining experience...would not recommend. We had the abalone, mongolian beef and veges. Quantity was good but quality was very average and would prefer even the likes of china bar.
Mad Dog
Five star prices for three star food and one star service. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to my friends, and I wouldn't be visiting again.

Over priced. Service average and inattentive.... Was good 7-8 years ago. Has Lost its soul. Wine list great but over priced. Not the best. Better around if your paying $120+ a head.

Over priced. We spent a 1000$ for 6 adults and 2 kids, for entree, main and two drinks each; didn't even have dessert. Compared to other Asian restaurants in Melbourne, it leaves you with an empty wallet and no real interest in going back. Unless you're wining and dining some corporate clients and want the show and glitz that Crown offers. The service is poor for the price paid. The ambience is nice but obsolete. The food is traditional Chinese. The best part of the food is their home made XO sauce.

It is a very nice place to enjoy a Chinese meal here. The decorations and dining atmosphere are beautiful. Food quality is not bad but rather expensive. The peking duck was nice with soft and smooth texture. The fried rice noodle was rather average, the noodle was quite rough and the beef pieces were lack of taste. The lemon chicken was actually quite disappointing, just too greasy.<br/>The service is very attentive here, but if you are looking for great quality Chinese food, there are many other places available.

Great night out <br/><br/>Excellent in every way <br/><br/>But we booked for the 8.30 session and after 10 we were constantly reminded that the kitchen was closing <br/>A bit absurd for this type of restaurant within the casino precinct.<br/><br/>
Gee
I get that it's at the casino and aimed at a lot of the international big spenders who probably turn to Silks for comfort food. Having said that, I've been here a few times (4-5 years ago) and I remember it to be sooo much better. It was by no means bad, but it was far from amazing. Peking pancakes are pretty awesome which suits me fine. Ordered fresh OJ and had yuk concentrated stuff. Prawns and steamed fish were good. Glad I wasn't paying!

The main reason you'd come to Silks is for the decor. There are not many chinese restaurants in melbourne that looks this good. Understand that 50% of your money is going to the decor. <br/><br/>The food is good to great, and at least the chefs have put some effort in. It's by no means a gourmet restaurant, so don't expect it. <br/><br/>I have a good time everytime I come to Silks, which is to sit tea with the great view of the yarra and eat some reasonably food.

I was going to be gone for a month which meant we had to have a family meal so what better place to have a classy dinner then Silks? The environment is nice, overlooking the Yarra, nicely decorated, high ceilings and easy to talk. The food here is quite expensive with a main costing around $50. We ordered a few dishes and being asian, we have to share.
Eatinghereandthere
Overpriced for ordinary food. The pecking duck was good but not sure if it's worth $11 for a piece. Other dishes tastes like any cheap Chinese joints can make but triple the price. The only thing good is the environment and decor of the restaurant. It was quite empty on a weekend night. Won't come back for sure.

Silk is one of the most beautiful Chinese restaurant in Melbourne. Great ambience, excellent flawless service, high quality cutlery . But food quality has dropped recently compared to last year. And if you dine with entertainment card, u get 25%discount as their price is quite expensive compared to normal Chinese restaurant.

This restaurant is definitely for special occasions, it has beautiful ambience, spectacular views and impeccable service.  We decided to do the $128 per person banquet as it was just the 2 of us for a change.  We began with lobster san choy bau which was superb, selection of steamed dim sums which were some of the nicest we have had, crab and corn soup was tasty and hot, Peking duck was yum apparently and they did Peking chicken for me as I don't eat duck, king prawns in XO chilli sauce were delicious but for the money could have given us more than 2 each, beef tenderloin was so tender and the fried rice tasty and piping hot, we finished with banana fritter and ice cream and it was probably just the right amount as we were full by then so asked for the bill.  The fact that they charge a credit card surcharge is just ridiculous and but a dampner on what had been an enjoyable meal.  If my little local restaurants cannot charge a surcharge then a place like this charging the prices they are certainly shouldn't!  Total bill was $345 for 2 and whilst it was nice certainly not worth the money, they charged $11 for a Tsingtao and the mark up on the wines is pricey.  Wouldn't rush back as other restaurants at Crown that are better value.

Love the view from the restaurant, it's fancy but the food was average and waaay too overpriced.<br/><br/>Sad to say I might not go back to this restaurant

The quality has severely dropped! I've come to this place maybe twice or thrice and the first two times the food was absolutely delicious. the fried calamari was cooked perfectly, the Mongolian lamb was beautiful with tender pieces of lamb and the sichuan chicken was spicy but delicious which is what we expected given that it was warned to be spicy on the menu. The glass noodles entree was different and the fried rice was a nice accompaniment to our mains. to finish off we had the fried ice cream which was a nice finish. However, more recently when I visited we ordered the same calamari dish but it was not done well, the portion was definitely halved despite being the same price. The mongolian lamb didn't meet our expectations and lacked in flavour. The only nice dish that came out from our recent visit is the truffled fried rice dish which was the only thing that didn't disappoint us. I'll probably look for another chinese place now that the quality has gone down.

This is the top Chinese restaurant at crown and if you like to entertain vip clients this is the place to go. Superb fitout where modern meets traditional Chinese elements. Not to mention a special Mongolian tent for special events. Food and service are all first class.

Opulent Venue and Priced accordingly<br/><br/>For the many times we've been there, always an extravagance venue, especially the Private Room with a view overlooking Melbourne.<br/><br/>For the serious Foodie, it's above average, but not Value for Money.<br/><br/>Occasional visit recommended.

We’ve recently had a Canadian join the team at the office, and when we snuck out for lunch one lovely warm Friday, she commented on how intense Lunar New Year celebrations are in Melbourne; compared to what she’s used to in Canada. . Man, can you imagine if she hit up Hong Kong or China?. Although Melbourne’s Lunar New Year celebrations still probably pale in comparison to the homelands, we do a pretty good job.

Great banquets choices surrounded with an amazing view and this restaurant has a balcony for an outside drink.<br/><br/>Menu has a vegetarian option which has dumplings however the corn soup wasn't to my liking as it was too gluey. <br/><br/>For a first timer at Silks and I would go back... But not rushing back.

Silk is the most beautiful chinese restaurant.. we ever seen.. in Melbourne.. We had a table with a very nice view of Melbourne.. At first, we were worried that we would not get tables and with the nice view as well.. but, finally.. we got them.. which is glad.. and Foods were well presented.. and excellent taste.. expensive.. it is.. but it was worth for what you pay.. for a special occasions.. and.. you can chat with no distractions.. because.. the space was huge.. Will come back again..

Perfect service, food, everything! The operator accidentally booked me for silks in Perth... But luckily Melbourne Sills were able to accommodate us and with a beautiful big table with a beautiful view. It was my mother's 60th and gave us complimentary champs. Such a lovely experience!!!
Richard
Opulent room and great location on the river. Lacks intimacy and atmosphere, there is lot of space between people, even those at your own table. Food is OK. It is not overly exciting but it is solid. It is also very, very expensive for what it is. Drinks are similar, lots of options but costly.<br/><br/>Whilst you will enjoy the food here, there are lots of places I would rather spend my money at.
Snow
The food is nice here, I wouldn't say spectacular for the price, but I would say always consistent and satisfying. Peking duck my favourite dish
Tony
QualityChinese food. Will not be let down. Definitely in the higher quality food league. Service aligns with food quality. A place for a treat

Dinner was good with pleasant ambience but they disappointed us by not offering any take away for plenty of leftover food. Wouldn't go back again 😕
Wei-Chi Lee
Stunning views both inside and out the high ceiling windows. The food is also excellent and well presented, which is what you expect when paying much more than normal. Nothing that blew me away but also no complaints at all.

Went last Thursday for my wife's birthday. Been here several times. Every time I go it gets more expensive. I find the staff very pushy and at times rude. Look the food is good in fact it's very good, but it's very over priced. Very much a special occasion restaurant but after this visit not sure we will go back. David's in Prahran is much better value and I believe the food is just as good.
Nelly
Expensive yes. Service could be a little better given the price, thus the score. But the food is extremely good. Whilst I don't get to go as often as I would like is still one of my favourite places
Natasha
Have been here many times with family.<br/>It is always immaculate. <br/>Their food is beautiful, (peaking duck is so yum!)<br/>They have top French champagnes by the glass which is great and an amazing wine list!
Melbourne Epicurean Juror
Gold cutlery, gold quality food and gold service provision (by Stanley & Vicky on this occasion) what more could one ask for - a truly five star premium restaurant experience and a credit to Crown. Today I chose the $50 - 2 course special and had a main of pan-fried lamb cutlets with cumin scented abalone sauce & a dessert of a banana fritter, the banana was lightly battered and fried, along with vanilla ice cream & strawberries - absolutely beautiful much to my palates joy. Silks is a restaurant one visits when one wants to feel special. The classical Chinese décor is somewhat unique and is engaging to the eye with comfortable padded mahogany seats. Silks also has a great ambiance with quiet relaxing traditional Chinese (vocal & instrumental) background music.<br/><br/>The Juror's Verdict: Food 5/5, Service Provision 5/5, Will I return: Yes, highly recommend - I love feasting at Silks, and yes to quote Arnie Schwarzenegger "I'll be back".<br/><br/>Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

We went there 2 times for someone's bday.<br/>Quite tiny portion of dishes and not impressive taste....just very ordinary taste of food in posh location (crown complex)<br/>Quality of materials is good but in terms of taste, i just say "ordinary nothing special"<br/>It has great ambience of course with nice view<br/>
CBF Glutton
The food was average with decent portions but it is slightly too expensive.Very nice decor with good ambience.<br/>The service was average.<br/><br/>Not really interested in coming back anytime soon.

Spectacular venue, food simply prepared but exceptional quality. Enjoyed the duck, scallops, and rockling. Pricey but felt the part, and well suited for anniversary occasions.
