Great Burger with shoe string friez, awsome , good job guys

Hooray for the return of BvH, the faithful have been rewarded. Perfectly portioned burgers with fries and soon to offer beer in the garden again, we've missed this. A great vegetarian option with chipotle dipping sauce and coffee to boot, stay for lunch or swing by for a quick jazz.

A good selection of premium burgers. The prices are the upper end of average, but the food is very tasty and the staff are pleasant.

Solid burger, not too greasy with soft Brioche bun and shoe string fries with chicken salt was awesome!

The mullet of cafes - Serious coffee out front and beer garden and burgers out the back - can't wait to give this place a run for after works drinks now that its heating up a bit - hello summer!

Badger Your Friends About it :)<br/><br/>In these times of mega huge burger places where you can spot the bright lights of KFC, McDonald's and other industry giants from a mile off, Badger Vs Hawk is one of those little 'blink and you'll miss it' spots. A cozy little hideaway on La Trobe Street and so I paid them a visit today with a mind to getting a burger as I'd heard good things.<br/><br/>I had a Simple Jack burger and in simple terms it is very delicious. Well cooked, fresh ingredients even the pickle was nice and it all came together perfectly. Definitely would come back to try some of the other burgers. :)
The Hungry Moustache
[LUNCH CRAWL] Amidst the chaos of building construction on La Trobe Street, Badger vs. Hawk caters for corporate and blue collar workers with their much needed caffeine fix thoughout the day. ‘But.. The Hungry Moustache, we don’t care about coffee! Food pictures now or get out.’, I hear you guys say. Fret not my loyal reader of 1 (Hi, Mom!), Badger  vs. Hawk also do burgers. I’ll put my dream of Melbourne coffee bean specialist on hold for now, imaginary haters – you can’t stop this peacock from flying!

Dropped in for a coffee last week and it was great just the way I like it. The barista was so friendly she was juggling several coffees at once but kept all of us happy by engaging with us as she went. I now pop in as often as I can and Sarah the barista has even learnt my name . Thanks Sarah from Zoe

Been here for coffee quite a few times and I've never been let down, it's always been great. The barista's have always been friendly and are always keen to have a little chat. The place is tiny, it really is small and so its often a takeaway coffee. If you're in the area on LaTrobe street make directs call in.

Excellent coffee. Well worth the walk. Interesting discourse with the barista made for a pleasant experience all round. For serious coffee drinkers, give Badger vs Hawk a go. Serving Proud Mary, I had a double ristretto.

The pros and cons are one sided:<br/>Pros: friendly staff, all sauces are homemade , the burger and fries are large portioned, more than fair in price, the quality of the burger is amazing and the toasted soft bun is amazing. <br/>Con: small size restaurant and is cash only. <br/><br/>All around it is definitely worth a visit.

Not $10 for two people but tasty as burger. Good feed for quiet little coffee/burger shop. Friendly staff and good coffee. Would make the walk again

Small shop doing a mean breakfast brioche. Coffee near to perfection- smiley service and friendly conversation. I'll be back when in the area to try their burgers.

BREAKING NEWS...........<br/>The burgers are back and they're OUTSTANDING!! 🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔✔️✔️<br/>Great new menu of full-size burger combos with the addition of smaller stuff if you just want a deep-fried snack. <br/>Easily outdoes the recently opened burger theory down the road - and their burgers are decent. <br/>Have managed to limit the intake to one a week this far, but not sure how long I can hold on.......<br/> 🍔=🏅🏅🏅

Love the coffee and the friendly customer service. Would highly recommend those who are serious about their coffee to give badger vs. Hawk a try

Great little cafe, Cool crew and excellent coffee! Really looking forward to when they get their burger menu up and running, gonna be sick!!

Good coffee most of the time, but occasionally it's a miss (not great). The best one is medium strong latte (2 shots), it has the right strength. The large latte with 2 shot is too weak, but too strong with 3 shots. The small latte with 1 shot is too weak, but too strong with 2 shots. Obviously it's my personal taste.

This place rocks for breakfast I had the all day breakfast which included poached eggs, bacon, sausage & grilled tomato on toast it was heaven let me tell you but I was really hungry at the time I don't know if that makes a difference lol.

The atmosphere there is great, and really adds to the experience; a suitable getaway place, especially when the bustling city drains your life and makes you hate people (which tends to happen to me a lot).

The black bean patty was really good- The patty was different: it had a dhal-like taste to it and like Jason's, it was crispy and soft at the same time. The chilli jam reminded me so much of sambal from back home, so I got a hint of home in the burger.<br/><br/>I loved how their burgers (the two we ordered, at least) came with brioche buns as opposed to the usual burger buns. It kinda gave it a little more 'stability' to the burger, if you know what I mean. <br/>

72 minutes for 3 burgers, fries didn't even arrive.. I. Can't. Even. Burgers were fine, but get it together. Srsly.

Walking into B v H was like walking into a MASH 4077 film set, which in the warmer months might be novel, but on a day like today was just plain COLD. Having endured the discomfort II was hoping (praying) for something special in the burger stakes coming off the pass, but while tasty, was way too small to satisfy even the smallest appetite. Overall B v H was dismal compared to the burger joints currently on offer in Melbourne and should avoided, especially if you're hungry

Slow Service Ok Burgers. Had a voucher so thought we would give it a try. We were not greeted when we went out back so grabbed a table (note a lot of tables are in the weather and is a bit of a wind tunnel) we had to wait nearly 10 minutes for someone to bring us menus. The Burgers were ok nothing to rave about, the meat patty had a few chewy pieces through the mix. I am not a fan of Burger places that put the bare minimum in buns then charge extra for cheese, egg etc etc. Buns I found were tasty but not a normal portion burger size. We received our fries way before our burgers so would have been nice to enjoy together. Basically although I didn't mind it I would not return.

Just plain rude after all. Went back to gfive them another chance as the previous experience could have just been a bad day for an unshaven someone.<br/><br/>Upon placing an order for a take-away; was asked by the bad-ass cap wearing barrister "If I was sure I wanted it to be a take-away?". This could have been in response to a previous visit where I changed my mind to have a sit-in experience after a table was vacated. Perhaps this person shouldn't be allowed to front for customers who obviously don't have the right or prerogative to change their minds?

Excellent Burger!. Came with coupons, would definitely come back!<br/>Nice hidden gem with a good atmosphere, good beers and delicious burgers.

Staff could do with better training or a better attitude.. Why make someone wait 10 minutes to order a burger? Iinstead of processing the bill from shitloads of people, don't make the poor dude wanting a burger wait! If you're gonna do that then tell your waiter to be happy to take orders from customers. Instead, he got snitty and told me to go back queueing up to place an order at the front for a takeaway burger. Poor attitude or poor training? can't really decide... poor experience all around that lunch methinks. ps. avoid the dude with a half grown beard. If you think he's gonna help, you got another think coming...

Great Burgers.. I have never eaten a badger or a hawk before, however eating at Badger and Hawk is something i do all the time. <br/>Super burgers, cool vibe, Highly recommended

YUM!!!. Today I went to badger Vs Hawk and had a burger and it was simply the best burger I have ever had :) The bun was nice and soft and the meat was full of flavour. Would definitely recommend this to friends.

Wanna-be hipsters. Busy Friday lunch. One waitress only. Fries didn't arrive. Took forty minutes for three burgers. I even ordered the vegetarian burger by mistake. I didn't think it was very clear on the menu. And why is a vegetarian burger the same price as a meat burger? Dunno. Pay a backpacker fifty bucks for three hours to help out with service. Tight as. Even the bill was added up wrong,( to our advantage), but we paid the full price anyway. Yes, we really paid the price. Three burgers, four beers, $60. God help me.

Cute little garden bar, with wonderful ciders and delicious burgers

You can feel the love. B v H put the happy back into burger and chip meals. The herb crusted chicken is moist and herby, the black bean patty is spiced and tasty and the beef is traditional and delicious. Salad and buns just right - with cheese available. Chips are damned fine. Hard to resist the house alio with everything. Cider, beer, wine and a good range of Jurritos soft drink support the highly rated coffee. Wonderful, relaxing back yard with friendly service.

Most excellent coffee. And very friendly guy who we had a great chat with about the place and history etc- also good enough to recommend other coffee places nearby. Who does that? Worth going to, definitely returning to check out the food.

Could these boys take themselves more seriously? So much attitude for a little cafe. C'mon guys, smile! It's hospitality, not the UN.

Battle of wills. Just as there's a contest between badger and hawk, there's a similar battle with the menu. Which delicious burger? Fries or no fries? I avoided the confrontation and settled on a (massive) falafel wrap, bursting with fresh vegies and flavours, and a delicious hummus sauce. All up $15.50 with a decent chai latte.<br/><br/>Perched on the end of a shared table with seven strangers, the courtyard is welcoming place and a very Melbourne spot, backing onto the obligatory series of laneways with garbage dumpsters in near proximity. The outdoor caravan kitchen is kept busy with orders. All over a great location on a sunny day - roll on summer.

Ha! Cookie!. The fact that you have time to write 2 reviews shows how bored you must be! Maybe you should get a life?

Returning Customer. I originally was only going to this place for the coffee - which is amazing.<br/>On probably my 5th visit I notice that people were disappearing past the coffee counter. Turns out that the place is a bar/restaurant as well!<br/>Have now eaten/drank there several times. The food is cheap and delicious, presented nicely, and the staff are all trendy, nice and fun. Try the *insert any burger* burger!<br/>BUY YOUR COFFEE HERE!

Absolutely loved this place! Staff were really lovely and attentive. Coffee was great and the Breakfast Brioche was phenomenal - I'll definitely be back. The seating around the back is perfect to watch the sky go by no matter what the weather. My friend and I had a really enjoyable experience, thanks Badger vs. Hawk for a lovely morning.

Lovely coffee, lovely service - great staff. Can't wait to try some of the beers after dark

Most perfect cappuccino I've ever had.. Phenomenal coffee. I am very glad that I somehow managed to luck into finding this place. Honestly had the most perfect cappuccino of my life here today. Will be going back.

The coffee here is brilliant. Finally good coffee on La Trobe has arrived. I even loved their cold coffee, Machete, what an ingenious idea for when you don't feel like something hot but need an aftermoon kick! Can't wait until you guys open the courtyard out back!!!
The World Loves Melbourne
Badger v's Hawk is a cool cafe on La Trobe and a great find for those who frequent the precinct. It shines with great coffee, personalised service, cool fit out, and a killer back courtyard section. I noticed they use Proud Mary coffee and they acknowledge Proud Mary is on fire at the moment.

1000 Pound Bend Rough and ready, this a perfect spot for a beer and a burger and there is a whole lot of them going on when we pop in for a glass of vino. You might worry that you can’t come in un less you have a laptop but I think this is just a comfy, wifi happy space with a bustling cafe, a massive gallery and events space and an air conditioned cinema space! Breakie is no ordinary affair with a drool worthy selection of dishes. Burgers kick off from midday with Black Angus patties, kangaroo burgers, crumbed fish, saganaki and a teriyaki tofu dish – covering all bases! Ferdydurke Such a great find! If you can grab a little seat there is a vert decent wine list and beers AND Dogs! Frankfurters are Polish Parowka made by ‘Rob’ thesausage king, cooked in craft beer and sauerkraut broth! Choose from the traditional Frank with ketchup and mustard, Royale with cheese and pickles or the Fred Savage with jalapenos and salsa!! And lots more and even better – from 12 -5pm there are just $3 Ta

But still the cold drip coffee ($6 per bottle) is really nice for a warm 33C degree day in Melbourne. You can easily get two glasses out of this and I did just that.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
It’s not quite what you’d expect from just looking through the front door. From there it looks like your normal coffee bar, providing caffeine hits to nearby office workers or others who just happen to be passing by. And it is of course at least partially about the coffee. Step out the back though and you enter a different place. It really does feel very much like a back alley Collingwood diner, a place of burgers and breakfast brioche, with the odd lunchtime cocktail thrown in. How does it do this? Well the alleyways behind Badger vs. Hawk are full of 19th century brick and bluestone warehouses. These have been used in the occasional film (Ghost Rider) but are now used mainly for motorcycle workshops. Out the rear of the shop is a small courtyard, with a roller door which opens directly onto one of these alleyways. You're pretty well insulated from the noise of Lonsdale Street, but when a motorcycle roars through the alleyway the noise is almost loud enough to rattle your fillings
