Badger Your Friends About it :)
In these times of mega huge burger places where you can spot the bright lights of KFC, McDonald's and other industry giants from a mile off, Badger Vs Hawk is one of those little 'blink and you'll miss it' spots. A cozy little hideaway on La Trobe Street and so I paid them a visit today with a mind to getting a burger as I'd heard good things.
I had a Simple Jack burger and in simple terms it is very delicious. Well cooked, fresh ingredients even the pickle was nice and it all came together perfectly. Definitely would come back to try some of the other burgers. :)
Dropped in for a coffee last week and it was great just the way I like it. The barista was so friendly she was juggling several coffees at once but kept all of us happy by engaging with us as she went. I now pop in as often as I can and Sarah the barista has even learnt my name . Thanks Sarah from Zoe
Been here for coffee quite a few times and I've never been let down, it's always been great. The barista's have always been friendly and are always keen to have a little chat. The place is tiny, it really is small and so its often a takeaway coffee. If you're in the area on LaTrobe street make directs call in.
Excellent coffee. Well worth the walk. Interesting discourse with the barista made for a pleasant experience all round. For serious coffee drinkers, give Badger vs Hawk a go. Serving Proud Mary, I had a double ristretto.

The pros and cons are one sided:
Pros: friendly staff, all sauces are homemade , the burger and fries are large portioned, more than fair in price, the quality of the burger is amazing and the toasted soft bun is amazing.
Con: small size restaurant and is cash only.
All around it is definitely worth a visit.
Not $10 for two people but tasty as burger. Good feed for quiet little coffee/burger shop. Friendly staff and good coffee. Would make the walk again
Small shop doing a mean breakfast brioche. Coffee near to perfection- smiley service and friendly conversation. I'll be back when in the area to try their burgers.
BREAKING NEWS...........
The burgers are back and they're OUTSTANDING!! ππππππβοΈβοΈ
Great new menu of full-size burger combos with the addition of smaller stuff if you just want a deep-fried snack.
Easily outdoes the recently opened burger theory down the road - and their burgers are decent.
Have managed to limit the intake to one a week this far, but not sure how long I can hold on.......

Love the coffee and the friendly customer service. Would highly recommend those who are serious about their coffee to give badger vs. Hawk a try
Great little cafe, Cool crew and excellent coffee! Really looking forward to when they get their burger menu up and running, gonna be sick!!
Good coffee most of the time, but occasionally it's a miss (not great). The best one is medium strong latte (2 shots), it has the right strength. The large latte with 2 shot is too weak, but too strong with 3 shots. The small latte with 1 shot is too weak, but too strong with 2 shots. Obviously it's my personal taste.
This place rocks for breakfast I had the all day breakfast which included poached eggs, bacon, sausage & grilled tomato on toast it was heaven let me tell you but I was really hungry at the time I don't know if that makes a difference lol.
The atmosphere there is great, and really adds to the experience; a suitable getaway place, especially when the bustling city drains your life and makes you hate people (which tends to happen to me a lot).
The black bean patty was really good- The patty was different: it had a dhal-like taste to it and like Jason's, it was crispy and soft at the same time. The chilli jam reminded me so much of sambal from back home, so I got a hint of home in the burger.
I loved how their burgers (the two we ordered, at least) came with brioche buns as opposed to the usual burger buns. It kinda gave it a little more 'stability' to the burger, if you know what I mean.

Slow Service Ok Burgers. Had a voucher so thought we would give it a try. We were not greeted when we went out back so grabbed a table (note a lot of tables are in the weather and is a bit of a wind tunnel) we had to wait nearly 10 minutes for someone to bring us menus. The Burgers were ok nothing to rave about, the meat patty had a few chewy pieces through the mix. I am not a fan of Burger places that put the bare minimum in buns then charge extra for cheese, egg etc etc. Buns I found were tasty but not a normal portion burger size. We received our fries way before our burgers so would have been nice to enjoy together. Basically although I didn't mind it I would not return.
Excellent Burger!. Came with coupons, would definitely come back!
Nice hidden gem with a good atmosphere, good beers and delicious burgers.
YUM!!!. Today I went to badger Vs Hawk and had a burger and it was simply the best burger I have ever had :) The bun was nice and soft and the meat was full of flavour. Would definitely recommend this to friends.
Cute little garden bar, with wonderful ciders and delicious burgers
You can feel the love. B v H put the happy back into burger and chip meals. The herb crusted chicken is moist and herby, the black bean patty is spiced and tasty and the beef is traditional and delicious. Salad and buns just right - with cheese available. Chips are damned fine. Hard to resist the house alio with everything. Cider, beer, wine and a good range of Jurritos soft drink support the highly rated coffee. Wonderful, relaxing back yard with friendly service.
Most excellent coffee. And very friendly guy who we had a great chat with about the place and history etc- also good enough to recommend other coffee places nearby. Who does that? Worth going to, definitely returning to check out the food.
Battle of wills. Just as there's a contest between badger and hawk, there's a similar battle with the menu. Which delicious burger? Fries or no fries? I avoided the confrontation and settled on a (massive) falafel wrap, bursting with fresh vegies and flavours, and a delicious hummus sauce. All up $15.50 with a decent chai latte.
Perched on the end of a shared table with seven strangers, the courtyard is welcoming place and a very Melbourne spot, backing onto the obligatory series of laneways with garbage dumpsters in near proximity. The outdoor caravan kitchen is kept busy with orders. All over a great location on a sunny day - roll on summer.
Ha! Cookie!. The fact that you have time to write 2 reviews shows how bored you must be! Maybe you should get a life?
Returning Customer. I originally was only going to this place for the coffee - which is amazing.
On probably my 5th visit I notice that people were disappearing past the coffee counter. Turns out that the place is a bar/restaurant as well!
Have now eaten/drank there several times. The food is cheap and delicious, presented nicely, and the staff are all trendy, nice and fun. Try the *insert any burger* burger!

Absolutely loved this place! Staff were really lovely and attentive. Coffee was great and the Breakfast Brioche was phenomenal - I'll definitely be back. The seating around the back is perfect to watch the sky go by no matter what the weather. My friend and I had a really enjoyable experience, thanks Badger vs. Hawk for a lovely morning.
Lovely coffee, lovely service - great staff. Can't wait to try some of the beers after dark
Most perfect cappuccino I've ever had.. Phenomenal coffee. I am very glad that I somehow managed to luck into finding this place. Honestly had the most perfect cappuccino of my life here today. Will be going back.

Badger v's Hawk is a cool cafe on La Trobe and a great find for those who frequent the precinct. It shines with great coffee, personalised service, cool fit out, and a killer back courtyard section. I noticed they use Proud Mary coffee and they acknowledge Proud Mary is on fire at the moment.
1000 Pound Bend Rough and ready, this a perfect spot for a beer and a burger and there is a whole lot of them going on when we pop in for a glass of vino. Great Burger with shoe string friez, awsome , good job guys
Hooray for the return of BvH, the faithful have been rewarded. Perfectly portioned burgers with fries and soon to offer beer in the garden again, we've missed this. A great vegetarian option with chipotle dipping sauce and coffee to boot, stay for lunch or swing by for a quick jazz.
A good selection of premium burgers. The prices are the upper end of average, but the food is very tasty and the staff are pleasant.
Solid burger, not too greasy with soft Brioche bun and shoe string fries with chicken salt was awesome!
Oooh yeah coffe and burgers are the only alley on this street.... this is great professional riffs from theses players..... ruppa pum pum
The mullet of cafes - Serious coffee out front and beer garden and burgers out the back - can't wait to give this place a run for after works drinks now that its heating up a bit - hello summer!
