Cheap and cheerful lunch destination. Love the variety of vegetarian and vegan options here. Enormous serving sizes so stick to the entree size! Recommended.
A hidden gem in a quieter part of Flinders Lane with great value lunches for the work crowd. Food: This has got to be the best value pasta joints in the Melbourne CBD with most pasta dishes around the $10-14 mark. I had an "entrée"-sized Spaghettie Bosciaola, their version with Bolognese sauce, cream, mushrooms and olives. Not going to win any fine dining awards but it was tasty and ENORMOUS, which is what you really need on a cold working day. It also represented particularly excellent value at a mere $10 with a free can of soft drink thrown in. I really do wonder how they survive the steep CBD rents with these low prices, but I'm not complaining;-) Décor-wise; pretty functional but pleasant and brightly lit. There was also friendly and attentive table service, bearing in mind it is really a lunch bar. I'll be interested in returning to try their other dishes, with steak and seafood mains all below or around the $20 mark.
It's a 3.5. Another slightly low brow excursion. The cafe is bright, airy and spacious and sits nicely elevated on Flinders Lane. It has a good feel to it. I was affably greeted by a charming Argentinian lady who is a long way from home.
I had a hankering for a cappuccino and toast with vegemite and had to ask twice whether the nominated $5 price tag was accurate. To my very great surprise, it was. Actually, looking at the menu on the wall the prices are all low here. Where else could you get barramundi with salad etc for $16.50? Other dishes were similarly very well priced. In most seedy suburban pubs they'd be almost twice that price let alone in a city place. (Can I tell you I'm still getting over an experience at the far flung Doncaster Inn several years ago. I had to drive miles to meet my old friend there - it was his choice - and then paid an extortionate amount for rubbery rubbishy food.)
My coffee arrived in good time but the toast a little later. The coffee was ok but not anything special. The toast was just ok too. The bread was good (I love my seeded) and nicely toasted but a tad more vegemite was needed in my book.
No matter. For $5 you can't complain. I'd actually like to try this place for lunch one time when I have more time. It will happen.
I had a hankering for some good ol’ spaghetti bolognese and ventured into Degraves St to see what my options were. Unfortunately every cafe there was charging upwards to $19 for a such a simple dish! And unless I can be sure they hand make the pasta themselves I am going to pass. So I spent about 10mins trying to locate on Zomato where the other Italian cafes were, browsing by nearby places because I know I’ve seen one around here while planning my future lunch list. I found Cafe Del Corso which was located on Flinders Lane but after crossing Elizabeth St. There was a staff outside handing out vouchers for free red/white wine or soft drink with each meal purchased over $6.50. I didn’t use it because I try to avoid sugary drinks with the exception of hot chocolate, coffee and bubble tea. (Which is just as bad, I know!)
Hole in the wall place and totally unexpected but this bloke makes a great coffee! have tried all the other places on Flinders Lane and his are by far the best! a++
Really great value and good quality food as well. The friendly service was the icing on the cake. I got the chicken schnitzel burger with sweet chilli sauce and I would get it again.
Great breakfast and delicious coffee!
Best risotto in the flinders area. The grilled barramundi is pretty darn awesome as well. The owners are really friendly and always accommodating to any customizations. I come for the food but i come back for their service. And did i mention their prices are probably one of the cheapest in town. A must must recommend for all.
Kept me on corso in the morno. Good on Cafe del Corso for being open at 6 a.m. I got a call at 6:25 a.m. to do a shift on the orthopaedic ward at St. Vincent's Hospital that started at 7 a.m. and I had to dash across town on my bicycle to get there on time. I needed coffee. Corso is cooking while most of Melbourne is sleeping. The bloke running the joint broke away for the woman he was chatting up and banged me out a decent flat white in no time. Corso had an OK selection of sweet pastries -- Mars Bar cake, FTW! Chocolate and caramelly decadence for $4 (which is $2 less than Zouki Cafe charges for the same pre-made thing at its hospital food service operations.) I got caffeined and sugared up the way I like, and I still made it to the hospital in time for handover. A job well done, Corso,
Wow! What a fantastic cafe.. I had the most delicious lunch at Café Del Corso with fresh food and friendly staff. It was very cost effective and it is my favourite place to eat. strongly recommend Café Del Corso!!
Great place. Always have the Pollo Funghi rissotto - its chicken stock base and not creamy, exactly how I like it. Delicious and u get free water or soft drink with every main. Just tried the cabonara - best ive had for a while. Entree size is plenty for one. free breadrolls and butter too. One of the placs I frequent during the work week. Only suggestion : please open on weekends so I can bring my friends and family!!
A Lovely Place to Spend Lunch. Incredibly friendly staff and great prices considering the location. The pastas are cheap and fresh, the salads are delicious, and the staff deliver everything with a smile. Free coffee, wine or soft drink with your lunch is a bonus! There is no sense of superiority or smugness to this place (which is refreshing considering the attitude you get in a lot of CBD spots!), just simple, quick, cheap, delicious lunch - highly recommended!
Very nice!. Been there for breakfast with a coupon from Living Social. Staff is very friendly and the food is nice! Will go back some time :)
Great coffee, pizza AND pasta!. Stumbled across this place the other day and I've been in several times since for coffee and lunch!! All the staff are lovely and they have an excellent coffee maker! I am now getting my morning coffee at this place!
Lunch is delicious and actually pretty good value! They have mainly pizza and pasta but I have had a tasty salad (which was the perfect size!).
Best lunchtime pizza in Melbourne, and maybe even Australia!. Before we even get to the other items on the menu, let me just say this, if you say you've had better pizza a taglio anywhere in Melbourne, you're lying! It doesn't exist! It's done in the traditional Roman way, thin and crispy and by the slice, just like you get on street corner cafes in Rome and Tuscany. You won't regret trying this pizza, and it's also amazingly cheap for what you're getting.
Now, moving on to the other meals on the menu, there's a huge choice of pastas - you choose the sauce and then the type of pasta and then they cook it for you, so you can be sure it's cooked there and then when you order. There are also risottos and larger meals such as steak, calamari and fish and chips. If you're in the mood for something light they also sell salads, sandwiches and traditional arancini siciliani. My only complaint is that it's not open at weekends or evenings, but if you're in the city in the week for work or shopping, I'd definitely recommend dropping in.
Coffee's great as well, been in several times for a morning coffee and a read of the paper, and the friendly Italian owners will have a chat to you about anything and everything and you get the idea they really care. An absolute gem hidden away on the corner of Flinders Lane and Queen Street, Cafe Del Corso is not to be missed if you know what's good for you! Try it out - you won't be disappointed!
Fresh homemade Pasta & Pizza. Been in three times this week and it's only Wednesday! These guys have a long history of doing some of the best Pizza and Pasta in the Melbourne CBD.
Had some lovely handmade Fettucini Carbonara on Monday, coffee and toast yesterday, and now a slice of Leek and Gorgonzola Pizza, as well as a slice of a tasty Supreme, with a drink for under $10!
Come in and say hi to Sam and Frank, you might recognise the guy out the front too from Basso!
Great coffee, friendly staff and a tasty breakfast menu to boot.
Friendly staff. Quick service, although it wasn't a very busy time - just before lunch rush. Food was fresh and delicious and the coffee was nice and mild, just how I like it. Good value too. Definitely return if I'm in the area!
I’m pretty regular here since couple of years. The service is pretty decent and food has consistently been good too. The quantity they provide is total value for money.
Really friendly and prompt service. Delicious and filling meal, lovely environment. Great prices! Heartily recommend you to try it!
