A very unassuming lunch spot in the heart of Melbourne's legal district in the city.

From the get go, it's very welcoming, and feels homely. I must admit, I didn't have the highest expectations for this place. I had a pulled pork roll with crackling to go. It was tasty, saucy and filling. I really enjoyed it. Next time I am going to have the $12 protein and side deal - the roast pork and roast beef looks divine. I had massive food envy.

The staff are very friendly. It feels like a family run business which is a nice change from the chains and franchises.

If you're a lawyer, on jury duty, work in this area, or a witness in a court trial, you should totally come here for lunch! It's so prime.

Popped in for lunch for the pork and crackle burger meal deal. We wanted about ten minutes for the meal to turn up and when it arrived I found the burger and fries tasty and succulent.

Went for first time today (Friday) using a Groupon which was for use on Monday to Thursday which was pointed out to me however they allowed me to use it anyway. Had the pork crackling bun which was very good. Staff very friendly. Would recommend.

Prime House is a small cafe off Collins St, selling burgers, and other assorted grilled goodies. I ordered the standard beef burger (there was also a double, lamb, and pulled pork bun). This came with chips and a drink for $10.90 (thank you Groupon!)
Bun: very good. Brioche style.
Salad: fresh and tasty.
Meat: while it wasn't grisly or form, I found the flavour unusual and a bit dry.
The chips were nice, but far too few of them on the plate.
Overall I give this burger/meal a 3, but Prime House is licensed. Every beer (many imported) was $5. They were also very friendly and the service was quick. Overall, I give Prime House a 3.5.

I used a groupon to try their Pulled pork burger. They claim the pork has been slow roasted for 16 hours & after eating the burger it might be true. The bun was soft & I loved the fact that it had both sesame & flax seeds. The pork was just so succulent & flavourful I was very impressed. The addition of 'crackle' made the burger more enjoyable. I didn't find the fries amazing, they weren't crisp enough for my taste. However the burger was amazing & I highly recommend it.

It was a bit difficult to find the place. You need to enter the office building at 500 bourke & then come out the other side (few stairs up). The area opens up into a courtyard with many cafes.

We came in using a Groupon and really enjoyed it. They were friendly, when I was about to pay for a drink they pointed out that the deal included a drink so I didn't have to buy one and the food was absolutely delicious. Definitely would come back.

Used a Groupon voucher for a pulled pork burger, chips and drink.. For a lunchtime meal it was more than adequate with a large fresh bap with plenty of pork and scratchings.. Decent.

Had difficulty finding the restaurant, but it is ideal for worker in the financial district. The cuisine resembled that of a home cooked meal, the portion size moderate and the staff were welcoming

The location makes it ideal for CBD workers looking for a convenient lunch time spot which boasts alfresco tables for a quick lunch break as well as spacious seating inside. As its name suggests, the menu is aimed at meat lovers with an array of hearty choices from steaks to impressively stacked burgers. We were pleased by the generous portions - these guys really do know how to feed.

Went here with This Model Eats A Lot for lunch mid week. Roast lamb - AMAZING! Get in early before it sells out. 16hr pulled pork was brilliant with wonderful flavour, not your usual fare.

A nondescript – looking diner nestled in the heart of the financial district with opening hours which cater strictly to the office crowd, Primehouse Melbourne is a meat lover’s nirvana. With a seemingly dizzyingly array of meal options – most starring my favourite thing in the world: meat – I’m salivating at the thought of tucking into the lavish spread. For this reviews, I call in some reinforcements: my two-man army of hungry boys (These Guys Eat A Lot).

A nondescript - looking diner nestled in the heart of the financial district with opening hours which cater strictly to the office crowd, Primehouse Melbourne is a meat lover’s nirvana.

With a seemingly dizzyingly array of meal options - most starring my favourite thing in the world: meat - I’m salivating at the thought of tucking into the lavish spread. For this reviews, I call in some reinforcements: my two-man army of hungry boys (These Guys Eat A Lot).

ROAST MEATS
A tasting plate of roast meats is served up featuring four of the greatest: Lamb, chicken, beef and the Primehouse speciality, 16 hour roast pork with crackling.

The lamb instantly announces its presence by banging down the door of my palate and exploding onto my tastebuds, lightly misting the scene with saffron and rosewater nuances. The texture and succulence of the meat makes it akin to a really top notch Indian curry, without the excess lubrication of too much gravy. The boys and I have discovered a favourite already in our first dish!

The roast chicken is far from your average BBQ chook, accompanied by a tangy yet sweet tomato-based sauce with decidedly Persian influences. It’s another winner in the innovative stakes and like all good chicken, is strangely addictive.

The grain fed roast beef is pretty standard as far as roast beef goes - a light smattering of spices rests on the exterior but is not obvious enough to be picked up in flavour. This is the dish which will probably appeal most to those who prefer commercial, conservative Aussie flavours and just want to munch on a good old roast beef sandwich, without the bells and whistles.

We save the house speciality till last. The free range roast pork has been cooked for 16 hours until achingly tender and has been basted in a concoction of bay leaf, cinnamon and apple cider vinegar. A very light, unobtrusive gravy adds acidity and sweetness, until all at once the saltiness of the crackling bursts through, creating a balance of flavour.

HOUSE OF LEGENDS BURGER
I’ve never really been a fan of the heart attack-inducing burger monstrosities that most boys seem to cherish, however I do love a well-constructed hamburger with ingredients that one normally wouldn’t think to go together.

I’ve always been picky about mixing meats (unless it’s chicken and bacon, or beef and bacon - actually make that ANYTHING and bacon) but a little voice whispers to try something out of my comfort zone. Actually, it was the boys berating me for being ‘weak’, but you get it.

Featuring a lamb pattie, Porterhouse steak, both cheddar and swiss cheese, spinach, herb mayonnaise, harissa yoghurt and BBQ sauce, the Primehouse House of Legends dish is everything your hamburger fantasies are made of. I’m not saying it’s the healthiest thing on the menu, but the ingredients are high quality enough to assuage the guilt.

The lamb and beef work surprisingly well together and is satisfyingly messy to eat - don’t even think about ordering this on a date. This burger is to be enjoyed on a long, languid Friday lunch; sauce dripping down your wrists, half of the ingredients falling a-tumble on the plate to be scraped up with the hands at the end and slurped from the fingers. Ahhhh, this is life.

PORTERHOUSE STEAK
Though a simple dish, steak is one of the hardest dishes in the world to get right due to incorrect cut selection, marinade and method of cooking. The Primehouse interpretation leaves me breathless. Juicy fat wraps unapologetically around one side of the meat, the fringes blackened by charcoal, imparting the elusive smokiness required for BBQ steak.

Such is the quality of the meat that the need for sauce is eliminated - I don’t want anything messing with the unadulterated purity of the flesh. When I taste the sauce later, I am pleased by the garlicy heaviness of it - certainly an option if you want some variation of flavour after a few bites.

SALMON
Perhaps foolishly, we end our meal with the roast salmon. Not expecting much after the heftiness of flavours just experienced, I’m floored by the delicate yet firm flavours permeating the flesh. Another simple dish executed flawlessly, the Primehouse salmon is the feminine yin to the masculine, meaty yang dishes with their bold flavours.

In an innovative bid, a supremely punchy chilli yogurt accompanies the fish which would probably be better suited to a lamb dish, but is fun to eat on its own nonetheless.

CONCLUSION
The secret to the dearth of options available at Primehouse is the clever use of four base meats and the clever use of various extensions to cater for each segment in the form of burgers, wraps, rolls and open plates.

Usually when restaurants try to provide too many options they lose themselves in the murky cloud of trying to please everyone, resulting in dishes that are unrefined in flavour. This is not the case with Primehouse, who has managed to nail pretty much every dish tasted with creative, passionate recipes.

I’m pleased to see the establishment has worked hard to create tastes and flavours which are complex and layered - rather than just using the usual jing bang meat marinade of garlic, lemon and chilli / spicy BBQ seasoning. The service is heartfelt and sincere - even if it takes a while for the food to come out, one must remember that everything is cooked to order and isn’t fast food.

I came here with a groupon voucher and ordered the beef burger. I was pleasantly surprised at how big the burger and the chips portion were. It was also delicious! The customer service was also good. I wouldn't mind coming back here even without the voucher.

Excellent beef burger. The meat patty was delicious and it was very fulfilling for a lunch. Service was also quite good. Chips weren't crispy enough though and could've done with some seasoning. Otherwise, a great lunch option if you work near the William & Bourke St area.

I so wish I was working in town as I really miss this place! There isn't a lot of seating so take away is mainly the go here but it's a communal seating area - very masculine in decor. The roast meats are divine and the gravy and sauces even better. Lots of great choices for a lunch and a great place to bring a client.

Good feed. Have been here a couple of time and have always loved the roast pork plate. Came with some some work colleagues today and we ordered from steak menu. I had the dry aged porterhouse steak and it was sensational. Definately coming back for another steak.

For meat lovers. Been here a couple of times, and love the 16-hour slow roast pork. Always tender and delicious. Such a luxury to have a roast meal for lunch. Can be crowded sometimes.
Remember to get a packet of their beef jerky to take with you until next time.

A Hidden Gem. A great location for a relaxing lunch, great food , great service. The steak is as good as you will get anywhere in Melbourne. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good quality lunch, the only disappoint is that it is not open for dinner.

Beats the next door neighbour. A $14 steak sandwich at Earl Canteen is about a quarter of the size of a $22 steak sandwich at Prime House. It's not just magnitude, the steaks at Prime House are the real deal. This place is a winner.

Succulent Beef for the Reluctant. Not a big beef eater, but the porterhouse steak open sandwich was nicely seared and cooked just right, juicy and moist, not bleeding and not tough.

The slow-cooked pork crackling is a contrast between moist, flavourful pork and salty, crunchy crackling with a hint of mexican spices.

Service was quick and non-intrusive. For around $15+ a piece, they're worth the price tag.

Love the pork buns. I love meat, particulary big slabs of juicy meat. Chicken, pork, lamb or beef... with a side of their potato gratin - exquisite. If short on time, I'll grab their pork roll on the run and buy some juicy grassfed porterhouse steaks to cook later at home.

I watched someone order a steak sandwich and he wanted to change blue cheese for another cheese, despite having three different cheeses on the menu this was not possible even after offering to pay extra. Food was ok.

I hope hungry folk take notice.. We came across newly opened Prime House while on a jaunt to experience Earl Canteen next door. Neither are easy to find (in my opinion), but one of them is definitely worth the trouble, being Prime House.

What I spied with my little eyes and ears as I browsed and asked questions, made me catch a train back to them the next day (for lunch, from Geelong).

We shared a communal table and ordered slow roasted pork with an extra side of crackling, some slaw and scalloped potatoes. I also took home some housemade chorizo (FABuLUSSS)! The young men in suits across from us had ordered ribs and couldn't contain their groans of pleasure.

The day before I took home a vacuum-sealed ploughman's lunch (terrine, olives, cheese, cured meats & relish) which was fantastic. It came with a generous slice of fresh sourdough bread and takeaway cutlery and those giant white paper napkins that could serve as tablecloths or hammocks. Also a delightful almond croissant.

I hope Prime House stays around for a long time. I highly recommend it.

The coleslaw and crackling are part of the sandwich so as you eat you end up crunching on small tidbits of delicious crackling.

I ordered a coffee there, the coffee was good, friendly staff and they gave me a complimentary cupcake as well, will definitely go there again. Just remember it's off Little Bourke street or you need to enter the No.500 Building from Bourke street and get out from the other side on Little Bourke street and it's just on the left hand side.
