One of the best Korean bbq place we’ve been to. Staff is friendly. Menu is great. Even get a free soup sent from the kitchen today! Their combination set is very good for 2 people, a good portion of chicken + pork + beef and salad for $29!
I don’t eat beef but my husband do so we always struggle to order because most places only do big serving of meat and we have to order 2 different meats but this place gives you the option to order small portion like 150g of chicken/ pork. Please don’t change the menu!
Korean BBQ is always fun! The meat here was fresh and great quality. For $29 it’s great value for money. Service is fantastic, will definitely return.
Amazing food, stellar service, would return. Recommend getting the marinated meat selection and bringing all your friends for a wonderful time.
Quite a relaxed environment, perfect for a date. The food was yum, and we left with food babies and smiles on our faces.
To be fair, the portions they say are good for two people could easily serve four, however we decided to gorge.
The staff were lovely and attentive to our table, which you’d hope for- as we were rookies to kbbq and would not know what to do. Probably one of my favourite places to go with friends too.
Given that Mrs Kim Grill have three stores, they sounded like a chain that I get suspicious about delivering sub standard food. I was unsure why they got good reviews but my friend wanted Korean in South Melbourne so I decided to give them a go.
How wrong was I? Granted, we only had their lunch specials and not their grilled meats / Korean BBQ, but I really loved their seafood soft tofu stew here. The flavours are spot on and they give you fresh seafood which obviously makes all the difference in the world.
The young woman who served us was super friendly, I think she is the owner. I can’t wait to try their Korean BBQ and report back!
One of the best Korean grill I've tried. My favorite has to be the pork neck & beef skirt steak. Lucky we just moved nearby so we can eat here often!!
A beautiful way to end the working week and with friends eating delicious food. From what has been a scorcher of a few days with over +40°C weather, we were hoping for an air conditioned restaurant, sadly disappointed but luckily when we arrived the temperature dropped down to 27°C and we were sat right in front of the door where there was a cool breeze blowing softly through the door. A tad too dark as the blinds were down to block the sun and heat.
Having a banquet style set up mixed with a few changes having a vegetarian in the group, the staff accommodated and happily adjusted the menu by offering unlimited salads, vegetables and Tofu. The food was of good and fresh quality, vibrant in colour and delicious to the taste. We guess you can't go too wrong with Korean BBQ. A great thing about Mrs. Kim's Grill is that they actually change the grill everytime they change the type of meet being cooked, which isn't as prevalent across Korean BBQ places we've gone to, and we've been to a few. As we were in a group, it was roughly $35.0 a head (selection set $69.0 and enough for 2) and it came with a selection of usual Korean salads, pickled items as well as a soup and rice. Food is plentiful and more than enough to eat. If you're feeling hungry, this will more than fill you up.
The layout of the restaurant was good with ample space on either side and plenty of room to move around if you're in a larger group like we were. The decor could improve and a little face lift wouldn't hurt as it was a little old and dated.
Location: coming from the city, Mrs. Kim's Grill is located on the left hand side of Clarendon St and only few steps away from The Market Hotel.
Parking: Oddly being a Friday, we were actually expecting a fair bit of traffic in the city going outbound but it only took 10min to get here. Same happened with parking as we found parking right in front of the restaurant which offers 1P from 8am-6pm.
Not a bad Korean BBQ place and a great place to hit up if you're craving for Korean BBQ and all for a reasonable price. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!
All set enough for 2, it states on the menu. Understatement of the year. My partner and I were close to rolling out the door after our meal. We ordered the Butcher Cut Set and by the time we were starting on the second cut of meat (out of 4), I was ready to call it a day.
The pork neck, beef skirt steak and lamb chop were just awesome. Tender and juicy, and also tasted fresh. I didn’t like the pork belly as it had way too much fat, but if you’re like my partner, that sure wasn’t an issue.
The side salads were excellent too. Didn’t expect much from them but we were impressed by the flavours and textures. The soy bean soup was another very flavourful dish.
Not sure what came over me but I ordered the 500ml soju cocktail for myself and I was struggling to finish it at the end. Not one to let alcohol go to waste I persisted to the end.
Big thank you to the two waitresses who were super attentive in helping us cook our meat, and also one of them who went out in the rain to purchase milk for our order of matcha milkshake. They could have just told us that it wasn’t available; so her action was very much appreciated.
This place is another good place I would go for Korean BBQ.
Came here 2 weeks ago and had the Mrs Kim Selection set. For $69 for 2 people and what you getting for the set is great value. Fills us up and we were happy.
For the meat you get pork neck fillet, soy chicken, skirt steak, soy lamb chop and chilli pork belly.
Also comes with two salad of your choice and we choose the smoke salmon and onion salad, and the tomato and avocado salad.
And it also comes with veggie parcel, soup of the day, two rice, home made Kim chi, pickled onion, Ssam Jang soy bean dipping sauce and pepper & garlic salad and spring onion salad.
We really enjoy our dinner and the staff cook the meat for you. The staff was helpful and friendly even tho the female staff that serve us that night didn't smile that much but later she was better. But the male staff was friendly. Would come back here again. 😀
Love this place! We came when it had just opened and were very impressed. The meat selection was great and all of the food tasted amazing. We would have liked it if the staff explained what they were doing with the fire pit, as we weren't sure if they were coming to maintain it or if that was our job, since they put all the meet onto the bbq once starting it. Also, the veggies with melted cheese on top was strange, but who doesn't love melted cheese!!
Overall, a great experience.
Having been to the other Mrs Kim's grill in Carnegie, I think this branch needs some improvement. It was not too busy when we arrived but it slowly filled up. The meats, salads, kimchi and soup are great in quality and quantity as the branch in Carnegie but there wasn't an array of dipping sauces to choose from. Service was prompt and friendly but I thought the meats could be cut much carefully by the staff such that the pieces were bite sized. If you decide to try this restaurant, do be prepared to wear clothes for washing after dinner, as you will definitely smell like a bbq.
Great service and great food, meat quality was really good too. I ordered the wagyu, beef ribs and ox tongue they were all really tasty. But unfortunately the gas was running low so would have tasted even better if they would change the gas earlier and had better heat...I wonder why they didn't notice earlier as they were cooking the meat for us....
Not a bad place to satiate your Korean BBQ cravings. There's typically no queue and the place is usually not very full - so definitely my favourite type of restaurants! The marinated meats were all pretty good - and their taco was so unique! The staff are also super friendly.
Good food and good quality of the beef meet. Service was average though.
The soju cocktail with kiwi was really nice.
The atmophere is okay too
Tried this place a couple of weeks ago. Food was good but service is a little slow or maybe because it was a little late at night. Must book! The place is always busy. Definitely recommend it!
We decided to have Korean BBQ today and thought to try out Mrs Kim's. We were very pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent. We had the Moo Set - 2 types of beef, which were delicious, and chose the fennel and celery salad, which was also excellent. The waiter then gave our toddler her own dish with rice and pieces of nori seaweed, which she loved. Very good kim chi and accompaniments. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the soup, as it was super salty. We will definitely return, even though it's quite far from home!
We were actually looking for the Korean BBQ place that used to occupy the space Mrs Kim's Grill has now taken over. I was pretty excited to see their sign as the Carnegie branch is further to me and incredibly busy. This restaurant is more spacious, bright and open, and there are two floors. The menu is exactly the same as the original restaurant, so only chicken, pork, beef and lamb. The sets are very well priced and filling. We ordered the moo set and it was delicious and more than enough food for two people. The staff proactively cook the meats for you, but I still find I need to sometimes flip or decide when it's cooked enough myself. Otherwise they will forget and you'll end up with black or unevenly cooked meat. This is a welcome addition to Clarendon St and a wonderful Korean BBQ restaurant, perfect for groups and also couples.
Came here to celebrate a friends birthday, we were initially seated on the long shared table in the middle of the venue but we asked if we could to a booth which was a bit more personal for 5 of us to enjoy the session.
We were greeted by Jamie who took care of us for the rest of the night, he advised us on what menu option would be good for us and helped us not to over order as he stayed to butcher set menus would be way too much food for 5 people. So we ordered a 1 butcher set menu and added some chicken and beef dishes to it.
The presentation of the venue and the food was really nice. Each person is served a wooden board with a cut our for utensils, bowl, plate and sauces to keep everything tidy. The meat is served on large trays and cooked by the staff on the gas stove in the centre of the table. The rice is served in small little metal tins which is also quite unique and handy
The meat was good quality, with premium cuts and marinated well in Mrs Kim's sauces. The service was really good too as the staff helped cut up and cool the meat while we all talked and drank. I recommend the lychee cider which was sweet but refreshing.
At the end of the night, we were still drinking and talking so Jamie offered us complimentary ice cream and allowed us to go upstairs of the venue to continue chatting. Later on, a few scoops of matcha and black sesame flavoured ice cream were brought up stairs for us.
Jamie was a great host, he was very friendly and made the night even more enjoyable thanks to his hospitality.
My missus wanted to celebrate her birthday at Mrs Kim's grill - take note, if you book in advance order a booth, otherwise you're travelling coach with the losers, we were with the losers.
The waiter (whom wasn't SEA) totally rocked. What he did right was explain how best we should order from the menu and he gave us the right directions, which mean't we spent wisely.
Put simply it's a pickled vegetable fantasy and salad if you really need it, but the reality is you're rocking up for the protein farts - Beef, Pork and Chicken, lots of it and although they want to cook it for you, which they do well, you'll find it hard not to take over and do it yourself just like we did.
Me, the Missus, our two emotionally charged teenage kids and including the 4 beers I had, made it $160.00... all up. Mrs Kim's Rocks! -
Mr Kim must be proud and is likely retired, asking Mrs Kim to spend more time at home.
Was super excited to see Mrs Kim opened a new shop in Southbank because we've been to the Carnegie one a while back and I remembered it being great. I love the bright and minimalist interior of the new shop and my inner OCD thought the wooden tray for the bowl plate cutlery and sauce tray is so genius as it prevents the table from becoming messy (like in normal Korean restaurants). The soup of the day was good, so were the meats and the side dishes, so good for value as a set for two people is only $45 and it comes with everything. Friendly service too, really can't fault this place :)
Much deliciousness was had! 3 of us stuffed ourself on 2 sets (typically for 4 people). Loved the sides that magically refilled when empty. Oh and the lychee cider is definitely a must try. Literally lying on the floor now in a post food coma. Good thing we live close. Thanks guys!!
We had the butcher cut set for 2, which included scotch fillet, skirt steak, pork neck fillet, pork belly and mushrooms. It came with your choice of salad so we chose kimchi taco and ssam vegies (lettuce with sweet pickles). The set also came with a vegie parcel (broccoli, carrots, zucchini and a small potato with cheese), soup and 2 rice. The vegie parcel is a small dish cooked on the bbq, so the cheese is melted on the vegies. There's 3 of us so we ordered the marinated galbi beef ribs and garlic corn as well. The set gave us 4 extra dipping sauces (honey soy, honey mustard, chilli, miso). It's really tasty. Great value for the amount of food. Also love their wooden trays where the bowls and plates sit perfectly in.
Finally, a worthy Korean BBQ in our local South Melbourne! Mrs Kim's Grill has only been opened for nearly a week! We ordered the set of marinated meats for two and it was delicious! It came with two side salads, soup, rice and your typical Korean condiments like kimchi. They also come around to cook the meats for you. Total bill was about $70 for two.
The food is always amazing, fresh and tasty!
And the family that runs it are so sweet and attentive.
Try the Kimchi Stew and Kimchi Pancake both are delicious.
My favourite Korean restaurant.
Amazing food and service. Great staff.
