The coffee is quite good, unfortunately I quite belive the bake just vegetarian and meat pastry they don't advertise any vegan product. Probably because of tradition and old europen recipes they didn't evolve yet.
Really friendly staff. Was pretty cheap for a soy flat white and soy chai. Both were really good. Just got take away but the tables looked rad
Great range of delicious cakes, danishes and donuts. Very good coffee and friendly staff. The prices are pretty normal. We will be back here soon.
Dana has now become a staple for me in Balaclava. I usually go during quite times, so i have never had an issue with wait times, rushed service or food/coffee quality - it has been consistently good. I originally came for a coffee and cake.. which kept me coming back due to the great selection and quality of cakes (and consistent coffee [3/4 soy latte or Melbourne magic]). However, i recently ventured into their savoury pastries and boy have I been missing out. Their little mushroom, cheese, pizza, spinach pastries are extremely morish... and I also have to give a very special mention to their choux pastries (wow).
If you're passing through or live around Balaclava, give this place a go. Grab yourself a coffee, a pastry and a sweet - see you there! 🤣
Spot on 3.7. Quick coffee stop today. Slightly cool but pleasant service. Very nice coffee. Near the best coffee I’ve had on this strip. All the right flavour, delivers quickly. Good option here.
Visited Dana Patisserie for the first time and loved it. They have a wide range of delicious pastries, cakes and drink options! Plenty of space for everyone from families to couples and friends. We sat on the upper floor that had a great view of Carlisle street and a nice breeze, it's different to all the regular cafes, has a more homely feel.
I was walking past today and couldn't resist going in to see what was on offer. I was hoping for something custard filled but ended up getting an almond chocolate twist and a plain croissant. The almond chocolate twist was incredible- so soft and delicious with amazing dark chocolate. The croissant was light and fluffy and delicious as well- perfect flaky layers going all the way through! Very glad in my decision to stop by!
I had to edit my review (from 4.5 to a full 5) after my second visit here.
Not only the sweet, but the savoury stuff is also very good and the ambience is nice too. All this with a friendly staff makes it a full 5/5 for this patisserie.
[Earlier review : Have had just a Nutella donut and an apple blueberry pie, but they were the best I've ever had!
The donut was so light and fluffy and yummy too! The pie too tasted great and really felt like a home made pie.]
Got some take away here today. There are a lot of bakeries in Balaclava.
I had a pizza sausage roll which was cold but still really good. Having the pizza filling in pastry seems to work. Mmnn haha
And I brought a crossiant which was a little doughy in the middle but otherwise ok.
This bakery had some amazingly good looking cakes e.g. a large chocolate cake for $14.90 and some amazing pastries etc.
No need to ask, yes I'm definitely going back haha
And I hope someone gets my humour in my pics. If not tell me m I'll try n stop lol. Joking... mmnn lol
I love this place since it moved locations. My favourite is the pear danish. It is delicious. The coffee here is also good - most times without the wait of some of its more superficial sisters up the street. The staff here are always welcoming and friendly too.
Amazing aroma as soon as you walk in. The pastries are made fresh and if you're lucky, they're still warm from the oven. The ricotta danish and the chocolate almond croissant are my favourite sweet treats.
Went in to grab a dessert pastry. The toppings were delicious, sticky caramelly (or maple) goodness with a good number of pecan nuts. The downside was that the pastry lacked a soft, buttery and flaky texture. Pity as the pastry should've been the star of the show. There is a eftpos 0.50c under $10 surcharge.
Very nice. I've come here a couple of times for a coffee and cake or pastry. Very good. Nice and clean too. My only complaint is the hours of operation, when i want a peice of cake or a treat it is usually after dinner....and this place closes at 6pm
I'll have one of everything please! My most recent were some gorgeous doughnuts for Chanukah, easily some of the most delicious doughnuts I've had, such a great and satisfying texture, light but with substance. Will always be back!
An all-time favourite of ours for a smooth coffee and the most delish pastries ever. The almond croissant is a MUST HAVE here, provided the early morning crowd hasn't devoured the available stock, and their mini boreks are savoury flavour bombs, with the mushroom and pizza being our favourites of the lot.
I recently had the berry danish and would recommend the same too.
Best bakery in Balaclava by a mile. Good service, good coffee, great baking. Thank you Dana we waited a long time for a decent patisserie in Carlisle Street.
My favourite chocolate brownie. That is all 😍
Actually, their mushroom quiche is pretty awesome too, and the staff are helpful and attentive. So far nothing we've tasted here has been disappointing. A reliable local favourite.
A happy little place amid a lot of overrated spots in Carlisle St. Coffee quality good without being exceptional, but the pastry and sweets selection is consistently good.
This place is just amazing. From the savouries and sweets they have to offer is mind blowing. Just reminiscing that day we ventured to this place, makes my head feel frazzled and my mouth salivates. The chocolate brownie, the mushroom baruka and pumpkin baruka. I want to go back and just eat it. The ladies behind the counter are so helpful I can't wait to try more of their treats.
For a sweet tooth like me, this place is pretty close to heaven on earth. I literally stood there for a good 5 minutes debating what to order. Getting annoyed at standing so long, my partner did the ordering for me - a mille feuille and a sweet ricotta danish. One bite of both and I'm hooked. The pastry of the mille feuille was flaky and crispy and the cream had just the right amount of sweetness. The sweet ricotta danish, according to my partner, tasted like a western version of 雞尾包 - in another words, thumbs up from him. All the ladies working there were really friendly and patient with me standing there looking a bit overwhelmed with what to order. I just wished I had a bigger stomach to sample everything on offer.
The ladies here are so beautiful and so kind, you can see their gentle souls with the service they provide you with. Coffee is robust and perfect, and the range of cakes they have is amazing. The lady recommended me a few and they were all delicious. Forgot the exact names but the salted caramel cheesecake was divine, the chocolate cake was so gooood, the cherry salted caramel tart is nice and the small looking cake with custard oozing out is delish too. Visit this French patisserie if you are in Balaclava/ St Kilda East, you won't regret it.
Lovely food. I would recommend the Pear Danish and the freshly squeezed juice is good for juice lovers. The White Chocolate and Caramel Cheesecake was delicious. The staff are very friendly and happy, the seats are cosy and the service is wonderful. My favorite things there are:
1. Pear Danish
2. White Chocolate and Caramel Cheesecake
3. Nutella Donuts
so. damn. good. the spinach boureka are my lunch frequently and the danish and croissants are exceptional quality!! their lemon cookies are also dangerously addictive.
Nice ambience, warm greeting. Great coffee and buttery fresh breads, cookies and cakes are to die for. Price is affordable. I will be back for more.
Dana's cakes never ever disappoint and the quiches are delicious too. Coffee is pretty good too. On a street with many above-average bakeries, this is the best.
Really yummy berry cheesecake ($4.90) : not so sweet, just right! ... But the service could be better!
My favourite cake shop in the area. Their cakes are not really sophisticated, but very tasty. Salted caramel cheesecake is evilly good. Their cakes cost around $5. Considering a tiny piece of brownie costs the same in other cafes in the area, they are great value for money!
Best Patisserie in Melbourne. Just love their savoury pastries, and always ending with an amazing sweet and a good coffee.
Exceptionally delicious coffee, good choose of cakes and fresh bakery, excellent service and they really know that coffee should come right with cake, not one after another with 15 minutes break, and it's where many others fail..
Cheesecake. Caramel white chocolate cheesecake and chocolate cheesecake 10/10!
Great Value - Best Brownies in Melbourne and Beautiful Cakes. I always appreciate a great brownie because so many are average and over-priced. The brownie at Dana is incredible - it ties for first place with a brownie I had in Dunedin, New Zealand.
The lemon tart with passionfruit glaze is also delicious.
I bought their flourless chocolate cake for a friend's birthday - it was gorgeous, with a lovely moist texture and it wasn't too sweet. A perfect cake for adults and a steal for only $13.90.
The cakes look kind of rustic and are so much more delicious and well-priced than the elaborate, $45 cakes sold at patisseries in suburbs like South Yarra or Brighton.
The service is also lovely - one time the staff served me the wrong dish, but they apologetically corrected their mistake and gave me the first dish for free.
This place has by far the best chocolate babka cake in town (beat's aviv bakery).
I am a regular on carlisle st, balaclava and I am here daily! Great vibe thanks to wonderful owner Dana.
Breakfast items?. Probably the best coffee in that shopping strip. I know they are a Patisserie primarily but a few breakfast options would be great too. The upstairs area is nice but seems a bit under utilized at times.
Lovely. Excellent service, friendly staff and the occasional flirty gentleman- which I don't mind! Very extensive range at great prices. Coffee can be hit or miss but oh well!
Really nice place to enjoy a good coffee and a delicious piece of cake!tried the chocolate cheesecake and will definitely come back to try other stuff
Amazing! Heaps of choice. The cake slabs always bring a smile and are perfect for coffee and cake dates with friends (and only $12-15!). Don't miss this gem.
To die for! Blessed are we!. I'm a long time local and just feel blessed to have Dana's in the neighbourhood. The pastries here are to die for and you can just tell that they are made with butter. I very often buy their pastries and freeze them - a few minutes in the oven and they are good as gold! It means I can share when friends drop around or whenever I am feeling just like staying home. I recently did a comparison of Glick's choc croissants with Dana's and Dana's was just in a class of its own. Oh I might add that they recently moved to new premises on Carlisle street which is a vast improvement on their old shop. Love! Love!
Sweets Clinic. My girlfriend, housemate and i are planning on trying every last delicious cake and pastry from Dana. Tasty gear, friendly service and solid coffee.
Gorgeous cheesecake:) amazing service:)
As we are spoilt with choice on Carlisle street, I have found myself attracted to this old business in a fantastic new spot! Firstly, produce...outstanding! Not even being a sweet tooth, I can't help but try their cakes and other delicious sugary treats. For the savoury people, plenty of pastries and other options. Coffee is fantastic. A strong latte should be strong but smooth. They nail it! Secondly staff, they are all just fantastic and go above and beyond to make to make you feel so special...even for a take away coffee. One down side is the bread, taste great but doesn't last very long. But if that's my biggest issue then I think we are on a winner. I hope all locals and tourist support this little gem, they are the best!
New premises: bigger shop, better exposure. Great place with lovely fresh cakes, Dana will definitely do well!
Amazing cakes, cookies and bread. The frendliest service! Love the chocolate kugels too.
Lovely patisserie with amazing food and friendly staff. Pretty much everything at Dana is amazing, from their bread to their pastries and cakes. The staff are very friendly and always fun to chat to. Highly recommended.

Dana is one of the best bakery/cake shop that I have ever been to around Melbourne. Excellent coffee, delicious pastry and all freshly baked. Staff is amazing, superbfriendly and privide great service. Highly recommended!
This place is Iconic!
Great coffee is just the cherry on the top of all their amazing delicious housemaid pastries cookies biscuits cakes.
My favourite is the vanilla caramel shout.
Truly a happy place and always consistent.
Always beautiful service which I really appreciate.
Yeeee! You gotta a beautiful bakery around the street. Usually you’ll find bakeries but this is something unusual.
You’ll find very different eatables that is not even in the books like Plain Croissant, Apple Chaussons, Chocolate Almond Croissant, French homemade pastries, Cookies, Cakes, Burekas, Coffee etc.
On the top of it, you’ll see how the are baking these eatables which are always fresh and made with love.
Had a chance to finally tried the pastries and artisan baked goods here and definitely won’t be the last time!
On the day we got:
- choc chally (only available on Friday)
- mixed berry
- pineapple & coconut
- tomato & feta
- lemon tart
Love the buttery and flaky pastry along with all sort of fillings and toppings. These are freshly baked and you definitely want to come in early before all the favourite pastries sold out. And look at how big the choc challa is, definitely a must get if you come on a Friday!!
Great coffee! It was so good that I got a second cup right after (even though the second one didn't taste good). I also liked their croissant - tasty and very fresh.
Oh my gosh! Amazing coffee but that’s just the cherry on the top of the most beautiful home-made in-house Patisserie’s cakes and biscuits.
My favourite is the vanilla caramel choux, But all the stuff is absolutely amazing.
I’ve been coming here for years and it is heaven!
The poppy seed babka was amazing! Friendly service, awesome selection of pastries.
