Great coffee and seriously good breakfast. Had smashed avo and feta with dukka etc. It was beautifully presented and tasted so so very good. Friendly service without attitude š
If you live in Melbourne and you haven't been here then you are stupid and need to get out more. The vibe is excellent, the drink choices are endless and the food.. The god damn food is phenomenal. I couldn't recommend the pork roll more but use your own judgement and you will be pleased, and that's a wedgey guarantee.
Oh, and ask for Alex to serve you. Grade A waiter.

Serving up gorgeously plated, Ā delicious food in an inviting space, Academy Kitchen is a stunning addition to Bridge Road. The menu is intruiging yet still very much accessible. The interesting twists paying homage to owner Will Manningās fine-dining background are subtle, but definitely noticeable.
Academy is still a fairly new restaurant in Richmond, theyāve been open for about 8 months and have a selection of European style dishes with a modern Academy twist. For example their pumpkin gnocchi has crispy onion rings on top for crunch, their duck parfait comes with a sweet beetroot chutney and their tiramisu is served as a sundae. Some interesting quirks to liven up the classics.Ā It has a warm inviting atmosphere that is perfect for a catch up with an old friend or a date night dinner. We went on a winters night and felt the warmth of the decor the second we walked into the restaurant. They also have a brunch menu.
Such a delightful cafe. Attentive, informed and friendly staff. Fresh and healthy menu options. Recommend eggs bene or crushed avo with eggs.
Located on Bridge Road, Academy Kitchen is in the fast growing section past Church Street. It is headed up by Will Manning (impressive Chef Hat CV including The Botanical). Melbourne Glutton and I decided to spend our Saturday night here. We weren't sure what to expect as Academy is not fine dining the same way that Botanical was, but Will's background is fine dining, either way we were both very excited. There was quite a few things on the menu that excited us but it was hard to choose so we decided to leave it up to them to feed us.
Eggs Benny and polenta was awesome! Some of the staff weren't overly friendly but very efficient. Coffee was great. Cool space, definitely heading back.
Academy Kitchen and Barās Chef and owner, Will Manning, has tapped into a number of classic European dishes and adapted them for the modern, Melbourne palate. With experience in hatted restaurants, as well as a previous stint of part ownership of the beloved Prospect Espresso Cafe, Manning has put together a well-balanced menu that combines indulgent share plates of wholesome pastas, risottos and meats with techniques developed in Australia.
Bridge Road Richmond is a street full of foodie fun with a plethora of different cuisines and so many choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ladies who lunch found Academy Kitchen and Bar by accident but we were really glad we did. Itās a little unassuming from outside but inside is a cosy, understated, exposed brick eatery with friendly staff and a level of plating that hinted at a very talented team in the kitchen.
Had eggs bene and a latte for breakfast so yum! Polenta chips so crispy, hollandaise sauce very tasty. Refreshing blood orange juice and really friendly and attentive staff! Definitely our new brunch/coffee place.
Recently opened hot spot Academy Kitchen & Bar, located in the heart of Richmondās burgeoning and popular Bridge Road precinct has launched its new autumn menu, with comforting additions perfect for the cooler months. The menu is handcrafted by Chef and owner Will Manning. Will uses the best seasonal and locally sourced produce to construct innovative dishes, with an emphasis on Modern European cuisine.
Breakfast and coffee was another 10/10. Eggs Benny with ham hock and polenta was a great combination, as was the avo toast with dukkha, beet relish and perfectly poached eggs. Barista nailed the flat whites too. Will definitely be back.

Delicious new Autumn menu & innovative cocktail list.
We started with the macaroni and Gorgonzola croquettes. These are served with a delicious sauce and come highly recommended! Our other favourite starter was the duck & truffle parfait with chutney and brioche.
All our meals were of the highest quality and the service at Academy Kitchen & Bar is impeccable. The attentive staff and relaxed vibe made for a delightful dining experience.
The boys loved the range of boilermaker cocktails.
We finished off the night with a decadent 'Tiramisundae' - coffee mascarpone, Marsala soaked sponge and chocolate sorbet!
The Academy Kitchen has launched its new autumn menu in Richmond. As the temperature gauge drops, Melbourniansā tastebuds, take a U-turn towards comfort food. You know what that means? Sticky caramel ribs, bowls of twirly pasta and glorious carbs. Donāt let those fad diet people tell you otherwise. Everything in moderation, correct? Academy Kitchen offers modern dining in a casual setting. The dimly lit ambiance ideal for chit chats in a cozy warm setting. The menu is designed by Chef and owner Will Manning, with a touch of European inspiration.Ā āThe vision for Academy has always been

Academy Kitchen and Bar is a discerning option on rising foodie precinct Bridge Road Richmond when it comes to smart food and a chic dining experience. On trend is restaurant style food in a cafe, with compelling breakfast (weekends), lunch and dinner dishes. Will Manning has an impressive CV having worked in top London restaurants and at The Botanical, and co-owned The Townhouse in Toorak. Will started off with a broad ranging menu when Academy opened, but it was more to see what the locals wanted. As a result they quickly identified Ā favourite dishes with cafe menu by day; with a direction towards European style menu at night. Richmond locals and beyond are always looking for classy cafes and restaurants in the area; Academy is the perfect venue to catch up with friends.
Heaven! I went to Academy with my boyfriend on a Sunday and left with a smile and a full stomach.Ā
Academy has a charming hipster atmosphere (but not in a pretentious way like many cafe's have adopted). All the staff were kind and attentive. It did take about 15 minutes for me to get my Chai Latte but I understood as the line for the coffee was out the door.Ā
I ordered the Brioche French Toast. AMAZING. I'm not usually a french toast person but I wanted to try something different. This dish was happiness. It was life. Everything on the plate was perfect (especially the cinnamon ice cream YUM).Ā
I was so happy and entranced with my french toast dish I honestly cannot for the life of me remember what my boyfriend had, just that he loved his dish too.Ā
If you want happiness in your life, go to Academy in Richmond!!!!
Lovely little quiet venue for a relaxed Sunday drink - staff are extremely friendly and non-judgemental when ordering 'just a drink'. Looking forward to returning for a meal sometime in the near future. :)
Really great option for breakfast in Richmond. Some delicious more unusual menu choices as well as some plainer options for those with a simpler palate. Coffee is good but not excellent. Nice homey fit out.

Group brunch on the weekend
A slightly higher class brunch/breakfast experience. Good presentation, friendly service (very attentive with water).
SERVICE - Friendly and attentive, seemed a bit disorganised with our order but not significant enough to be an issue
COELIACS/GLUTEN/ALLERGIES - decent choice for gluten free options
TASTE/FOOD - Coffee was OK, not great or good but OK (very slight bitter/harsh taste). Food was tasty but not exceptional. Soft shell crab omelet didn't really combine that well. Its basically coleslaw wrapped an egg omelet with a soft shell crab on top, I actually think it would be better with the coleslaw on the side, I thin it would be heaps better if the omelet actually had crab in it rather than placed on top.
VALUE - decent price for the service and presentation. I would definitely avoid the corn fritters though if you were remotely hungry - its basically 3 x table spoon sized fritters on half a plate.
WORTH GOING BACK? - Probably would to try some of the other things on the menu.
I am torn between giving Academy the rave review it deserves and keeping it a secret just to myself and husband! We popped in for brunch today and both agree it was the best brunch we've had in months (and we eat out a LOT). Husband had the sweet corn & wattleseed fritters with crushed avocado, heirloom carrots and poached eggs, I had the eggs benedict on polenta with pulled pork & kale....with hollandaise sauce so good it left me momentarily speechless. The coffee also elicited murmurs of appreciation from both of us, as did the relaxing environment, the friendly efficient staff - even the music was set to just the right volume! I feel like we've stumbled on the best kept secret in Richmond and just round the corner from where we live. Cannot wait to go back and also take our friends & family here. A class act, highly highly recommend :)
Lunch today at Academy Kitchen & Bar to sample their new menu, and there were so many great options available on both their breakfast and lunch menus.
We went with the 318 Cheeseburger which was delicious (and great to see a 'normal' sized burger!), with the fries doing their best to steal the spotlight!
Owner and head chef Will Manning sent out a bowl of Chilli Caramel Duck Ribs, and we were very glad that he did....they were amazing!!
We finished off with the waffles which was the perfect ending to a delicious meal!
We will be back to sample the many other options we have already picked out.
Fit out is warm and inviting, as are the staff.
In terms of coffee and sweets this crisp, cool cafe is a gem on the Richmond strip. The chocolate brownie slice was rich and dense and equal to the best I've ever had! I can't wait to go back and try some more.
Brainchild of renowned chef and owner Will Manning, Academy Kitchen and Bar is a celebration of informal dining but draws heavily on the breadth of Manningās international experience.
Really hard to fault this place! Amazing, professional staff paired with great food and wine! Just represents a great offering for the price so we'll definitely be going back regularly. Mix up the menu so we can come back without having the same dishes.
Outstanding meal. The duck parfait was sensational for a starter followed by finger licking fried chicken with signature mash and gravy - the only down side was not being able to upsize the mash potato and gravy. Service was excellent - will be back!
So happy Academy has opened in our neighbourhood! Been in for a brunch and lunch twice in a week and enjoyed it immensely . Great food and service with a sense of humour.
Went here for dinner last night with hubby. The food was absolutely beautiful. Loved the yabby roll and jalapeno mac and cheese balls followed by the fried chicken with the most delicious smoked potato mash....who knew potato mash could be so good. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. Great ambiance and interiors. Would recommend this for a relaxed dining experience.
Great addition to the vastly improving Bridge Rd food scene.
Breakfast was very tasty and came out quickly. Staff were also attentive with water (crucial as I was massively hungover). Am told the coffee was high quality by the lovely lady across the table from me.
Will be back to try dinner. The menu looks superb.
Absolutely faultless - great food, great ambience, friendly staff. We were surprised by how well presented & tasty the food was. The service was fantastic. Great value for money as well. Will definitely be going back soon!
Cool place with a nice vibe. The food was enjoyable and the menu a little different from the usual fare. We had dinner. I enjoyed my crispy skinned fish and the side order of salad was refreshing. Others had the fried chicken and steak.. Everyone was happy. The staff were excellent, friendly and very helpful. Definitely recommend for a casual buy yummy night out.
Academy Kitchen and BarĀ is one of the most recent places to open up in this section of Bridge Road thatās been experiencing somewhat of a food renaissance of late. With neighbours like Anchovy and Minamishima, the standard in this part of town has been set very high so when The City Lane was invited to sample the offering at Academy, we were interested to find out whether it was up to the ever increasing standards of the area.
Love this new addition to Bridge Road. Food is thoughtful and just a little bit different from your standard breakfast offerings. Loved the sweetcorn and wattle seed fritters paired with smashed avo, poached eggs and roasted tomatoes. Very much looking forward to exploring their lunch/dinner menus and seeing what else they can do.
Tried Academy Kitchen and Bar for brunch on Saturday and was really impressed. The menu covers all the usual brunch offerings however with a slight twist. Ā I ordered the sweetcorn and wattle seed fritters with crushed avocado, roast tomatoes, poached eggs and a side of bacon. The fritters were light and fluffy and had great flavour. They worked really well with the lemony avocado in particular. The side of thick cut bacon was also very generous and not greasy in the slightest. My friend ordered the natural muesli with green apple, raspberry and cinnamon yoghurt and said it was one of the best she'e ever had. Excellent portion size and the grated apple prevented the dish from being too dry. Ā The service was also great Ā - Ā attentive yet unobtrusive. Id definitely be keen to come back to Academy Kitchen and Bar for dinner one night.
This place was fantastic. It's everything you want in a restaurant. The service was excellent. The menu was well thought out and offered a variety of dishes without being too complicated. I had the crispy fried chicken which was perfect. I will definitely be going back to this gem!
Nice joint, service was great. Food was on fine dining with a good price. Really enjoy my meal. And finish off with a good dessert of molten chocolate with salted caramel icecream
Really cool joint, nice fit out and very friendly relaxed but professional service at the same time. Fried chicken was really nice as was the buttery mash potato and gravy. Definitely will be coming back to try the eggs Benedict for breakfast and a couple of things on the dinner menu
Have been waiting for Academy to open and we got to try it for lunch today. The fit out is really modern, and has a nice restaurant/cafe/bar feel. Being open for lunch and dinner they have separate menus and also are open for breakfast on the weekends.
Today I ordered the Richmond Reuben Sandwich which was delicious. It came toasted on light Rye and had a good balance of corn beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, pickles and thousand island dressing. My husband ordered the fried chicken which came with potato and gravy, and apple slaw which he was also happy with. The service was really friendly and knowledgable. I'd definitely recommend to try it out. It's a major step up to the previous vendors.
Can't wait to come for dinner and try the slow roasted lamb shoulder! Yum!
Delicious food and great service. Strongly encourage the locals to come and try this great new place. We will definitely be back for some comfort food!
Fantastic food. Great service. Incredible tea selection. Baby friendly.
Fantastic and friendly service and the food was great. Very accommodating for our vegetarian friends. Thanks for a great night!
Amazing! Best beef cheek I've ever had. Such a warm and cosy environment. Presentation perfect.
Another great meal. Beautifully presented. Tasted as good as it looked.
Tastiest orange juice, and even tastier coffee. Awesome place too
Love this place. My favourite cafe on bridge road.
