Review Lacabra - Melbourne

Service and delivery was prompt and friendly. Cocktails delightful. Buffalo wings very tasty, poppers tasty. I like my beef taco it was on the sweet side. My husband said his pork taco was good as well but not a stand out. The prawn taco was bad. Basically not edible. Over cooked as you can see from the image with no flavour. When I went up to pay, I mentioned this to the waitress and she said oh sorry. And then told me the total. I would have thought not being able to eat it would warrant it being taken off the bill šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

Would definitely recommend going here on Taco Tuesdays where all tacos are $5! My favourites are the prawn tacos as well as the fish ones but you really canā€™t go wrong with any of them. They also have a $69pp bottomless brunch on the weekends which is always a blast. You can choose either a meat or vego set menu which are both very delicious. For the drinks, thereā€™s a variety to choose from such as beer & wine to sangria and mojito jugs. They also have quite a nice seating area out the back which is better for larger groups.

Loved the food. Enjoyed a well cooked slow cooked lamb Chimichurri burrito. 5 star dish. Had enough fat and cooked to perfection. The chilli was great in adding the right amount of heat. Onion rings crunchy and tasty. The wrap was delicious. The Tirado Chicken Enchilada was good. It was deconstructed which made it a little hard to enjoy all the flavours of the chicken together as opposed to being able to wrap it up and eat together. Food was excellent. Lost a star because the ambience/accoustics were hard to beat in the outdoor area. With many patrons, noisy neighbours, brick walls and loud music it was hard to enjoy the experience. A few sound absorbing materials would help plus lowering the volume of the music.

We ordered a couple of chicken and beef burittos, fish and prawn tacos, some jalapeƱos and boy, they donā€™t disappoint at all. We love Mexican food and for my taste, I enjoy La Cabra more than Bay City.

Melbourneā€™s best Mexican food by far. Cheerful ambience, amazing staff. Itā€™s definitely going on my list of returning restaurants. Sophie was our helpful and peppy hostess. Weā€™ll go back to experience their great service again and again.

La Cabra (translation The Goat). Yes they're claiming it, Camberwell Rd, East Hawthorn. Is very very good. Service was quick and the tacos were delicious. I don't say this lightly but probably the best Tacos I had. 6 out of 5 Tacos. Worth the adventure. + some delicious plant based options.

Firstly kudos to the front staff for being super accommodating as I was carrying an infant. Service and food cant be faulted at this place Best Mexican food I had in super long time

Great casual Mexican restaurant.. Seems quite popular! Looks small from outside but there's more to it down the back.. Food and drinks list is great..

Ordered Uber eats from here and it was great. Everything was warm and flavours were really good. Will visit once lockdown is over.

I came here once before lockdown and we got takeaway tonight and both meals were great! The in house atmosphere and service was lovely and the takeaway ordering and pickup process was quick and smooth. Food was just as good in takeaway form so I can definitely recommend it for a lockdown meal to break up the home cooking! We got the Mexican corn, buffalo wings, fries with chipotle aioli, loaded crisps, and a selection of tacos given itā€™s taco Tuesday (beef, chicken, pork and fish) and would easily get everything again.
Good Food Good Mood
We dined at La Cabra anticipating the government is likely to shut everything down again shortly if things donā€™t start to rapidly improve and wanting one last glorious meal not eaten next to my makeshift workstation. As someone who ate out pretty much daily prior to the initial lockdown I canā€™t convey just how much I missed the atmosphere and change of environment. And naturally the food

The food here was delicious. We shared a pulled beef quesadilla and then I had prawn tacos whilst my husband had a beef burger. Iā€™m not sure what was particularly Mexican about said burger but it certainly looked impressive. Plenty of flavour in all the dishes and the texture of the pulled beef was perfection.

Hubs has been here on an almost weekly basis given his office is in walking distance and Iā€™m of kind offended heā€™s never once thought to bring me. Would definitely return for one of their weeknight specials (Taco Tuesdayā€™s looks intriguing!)

I donā€™t normally write reviews but these are SERIOUSLY GOOD Burritos! I had the Chimchurri and my husband had the chicken. Going to call it - best Burrito ever! Massive and delish. Will be getting iso delivery again! Thanks La Cabra!

Great vibes and modern Mexican! So glad this is just around the corner from us. Definitely becoming a regular!

Wow, this has just become my new favourite Mexican joint! Super fresh and all the serving sizes are value for money. Decided to go meat free here and lots of veggie options! Definitely bring your mates here

Food is decent enough, the portions are quite small and the prices high. The drink prices are unbelievable. For a tall and thin glass of coke, itā€™s $5. Itā€™s not even a full can. I couldnā€™t believe it when it came out, it couldnā€™t have been more than half a can. Really disappointing as the food is good. But I wouldnā€™t return as I feel this place i just a rip off.

We happened to get an available table on a Saturday without a booking ... it was very busy however service with only 2 working the floor was impressive (they can seat 70 out the back). Tex mex style food was much better than Fonda and came out quick and the vibe is fun there. Had the jalapeƱo poppers, lamb ribs, calamari bowl and chicken quesadilla- and all was what we had expected

Really nice modern Mexican in the heart of Camberwell. Service was very friendly and quite quick. There is a small seated area in the front, and a 2 level beer garden out the back. Iā€™ve eaten a lot of Mexican corn and that would have to be one of the best! Entrees were so good and mains also. Well priced, nothing to fault. Friendly service too!

ā€œItā€™s Getting Hot In Hereā€ (tequila, jalapeno syrup, mango & lemon). Pretty spicy!. Taco Tuesday $5 tacos. I had a fish taco (with papaya slaw and jalapeno salsa) and a shrimp taco (with pickled onion, pico, sour cream and guac). Scott had a beef taco (with lettuce, cheese, pickled onion and bbq sauce) and a pork taco (with pickled vegetables, mayo, pineapple and pico).

Tried the
- Fish Taco
- Fried Chicken Burger
- Beef Burrito

Overall the quality was good. The atmosphere was top notch and the food was very good as well. I went during a busy time so there was a very long wait to get service, however the staff were very nice.
The highlight were the fish tacos, the fish were cooked perfectly and the sauce complemented it very nicely. The beef burrito was a little salty and could have used more sauce. Was a little underwhelmed by the chicken burger though. The chicken and the pork belly were overcooked and dry and did not have as much taste as I would have liked.
Decent Feed
La Cabra's food, like most Mexican options in Melbourne is pretty good. A fairly standard selection of tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas and burritos are on offer. The strength of La Carba really lies in the atmosphere La Cabra with its nice outdoor dining area around the back, as well as live music! On a Sunday night! Uncanny. The sunny evening may have had a major part to play in the vibes. We opted for the spicy chicken quesedilla, the beef enchilada and the tortilla crisps (i.e. nachos). The quesedilla was my favourite, with spicy chicken as advertised and some lovely garlic aioli on the side to reinforce the flavour. The beef enchilada was decent, but would be improved with pulled beef or beef strips replacing the minced beef that was present. The tortilla crisps, while good, got soggy quite quickly, so eat them while they're hot. Certainly not the GOAT but still really good and well worth a visit.

Josh and the team at La Cabra were fantastic. They hosted our Christmas party and they could not have been more helpful. It is the perfect event space, having a separate section close to the bar with plenty of comfy seating. The food was delicious, staff were amazing, great with dietary requirements, drinks were well priced and good quality. They made everything so easy for us. Would DEFINITELY recommend La Cabra for an event. Or just any meal really. Thanks guys!

I was told I had to try the fried chicken burger. But I couldn't come to Mexican without starting with a serve of tacos and nachos, corn and tortillas. So what did little old fatty over here do...I ordered them all as well as a burger. A quality feed shared between 4 ;) come on, you really think I could eat all of that myself lol. Take your friends and enjoy one of the best Mexican restaurants in Melbourne.
Food Fanatic
Ordered the Pulled beef burrito through door dash... oh my burrito!!! I have not had a better burrito in my life the pulled beef was so tender and tasteful the wrap was so soft the filling was just amazing and easy to eat too without being overly mushy I think I found my new favourite food šŸ˜

Great night at La Cabra. Really delicious authentic Mexican food that looks and tastes great ( and at a fantastic price.) Fun atmosphere for a few drinks with your meal! I recommend the Burrito! Lovely staff too. A++

You can see why this place is rated so highly, the food, the vibe it's all fantastic. I had a fried chicken burger naturally and was absolutely blown away by how tender and delicious it was. Top place.

Wow!! Absolutely loved the food and vibe of this place, make sure you check out their large courtyard out the back!

The southern fried chicken burger and fish tacos had to be my favourite of the bunch! So much flavour and so delicious, I also loved the RIBS and WINGS šŸ˜

The ribs had so much flavour, so tender and literally fell off the bone!! I will definitely be back ā¤ļø

The Fo0die
Fo0die dined as a guest of La Cabra Mexican and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.Ā

We always love Mexican food so we were very excited to try this venue which isnā€™t too far from home for us. Opened since March/April 2019 (we were advised April but we have read others citing March so letā€™s cover both!), the venue was 5 months old when we visited.

Things we did enjoy included:
- the top notch service
- corn chips and dip
- corn
- fish tacos

Things we didn't enjoy as much:
- the quesadilla and jalepeno popper was just meh
Maria Condello
Great place for a weekend lunch, especially coming into the warmer weather because the courtyard area is fantastic!!

Friendly service, lots of options on the menu and the food was great. The guac is seasoned well, the corn chips are tasty, crunchy and a generous portion. We had the fish tacos which had a huge piece of fried fish that was nicely cooked. Also loved the corn, that was a great dish to share as you get 2 pieces.

Overall loved our lunch here, would definitely come back to try more of the food - the table next to us ordered burritos which looked amazing!

The food and service from La Cabra is absolutely outstanding. I was here over the weekend and the vibe was amazing. The outdoor courtyard was pumping and the atmosphere really enhanced the over all experience. In terms of the food - modern Mexican with a bit of American influence to suit the Australian pallet. It is a win for me, one of the best venues I have been to in a while.

Tacos, wings, burgers, burritos, whatever mex you're in the mood for La Cabra have it! I love going here with a bunch of friends and ordering a big spread of tacos, corn, ribs and nachos to share. But if you're in the mood for a big feed to yourself the buttermilk burger with crispy pork belly and chipotle may is up there with some of the best burgers I've had!

I absolutely love Mexican so when I saw a new Mexican pop up in Hawthorn, I just had to go check them out and OMG the food here is good! I think I just found me new favourite Mexican in Melbourne. Tacos were amazing, chicken wings were perfectly sauced, Nacho's were good quality with plenty of cheese. A must!

as an american who struggles to find great mexican in melbourne, i love this place.

the burrito is delicious. the jalapeno poppers are wonderful. the corn is fabulous. cannot recommend it enough. i hope it never leaves!!!

Good Mexican food is hard to come by in Melbourne. Yes, there are a million Mexican restaurants but they are all just meh.Ā Because of that, my expectations were low and I was more than pleasantly surprised. We really enjoyed our meal here, my Tacos were excellent and the FRIES well let's just say they are FriesFiend approved. Delicious!

Great modern Mexican food! The fish taco & the beef burrito were my favourites. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. Their courtyard dining area looks awesome! Def coming back for a sesh with the crew on a sunny warm day.

Great place for Mexican cuisine as well as burgers. Nice and trendy ambient, food for reasonable prices!

BeefĀ Burger and Enchiladas are my favorites so far! The portions are quite generous and freshly made. They've got some lunch deals as well as Taco Tuesday ($5) as well!

Definitely recommended, one of the best Mexican restaurants I've tried in Melbourne!

Perfect for all ages. We regularly visit Mexican restaurants and La Cabra has become our new favourite. A really great space with food to match!
Burgers Of Melbourne
A Mexican place that does a burger! Yes, the burger at La Cabra was amazing!! Fried chicken drenched in Frank's, Pork Belly and heaps of sauce. This burger completely exceeded my expectations.

On my visit I also sampled the: Loaded Fries šŸ‘ŒšŸ» Tacos šŸ‘ŒšŸ» Chicken Wings šŸ‘ŒšŸ». Big fan, highly recommend!
Elbert
Great local joint for some good burrito and burgers. It isn't overpriced as well for the amount of food and quality you get. The lunch deals are a steal as well. Would recommend going with your team or mates.Ā

PS.The open burrito is top notch.
AMac
Came here for a work lunch. They have a great lunch special- $12 for a burrito or burger and a beer, soft drink or coffee. I had the beef burrito which was really good. Will definitely return.

Great modern Mexican food with trendy decor. The lamb ribs are to die for! The staff are really lovely too. Big fan of the outdoor area at the back, will be back for a few drinks and another feed.
Empty Nester Ready To Eat
Ive now been here a few times. Its a great Mexican Cantina offering tasty mexican flavours. The decor and vibe is perfect to match the cuisine. The mexican beer/cocktail garden out the back is well worth a visit, love the bar area!! Their wine and beer list is top quality, havent had a nicer prosecco anywhere! Their burritos and fish tacos are excellent and their lamb ribs are divine! The chef hand delivered our main for a personal touch and the young matreā€™ di, i think his name is Josh was outstanding!! Cannot wait to go with friends. Apparently they do $5 tacos on Tuesday & cheap lunchtime burritos. Kills Fonda for value.

Had a lovely TACO TUESDAY dinner at La Cabra in Hawthorn/Camberwell :)

Love the dƩcor and vibe, service was great and food was yummy. Would have loved to see more vegan options on the menu, but the kitchen was accommodating and made amendments for me!
Can I just say the fries are insanely good haha!!

The veggie taco was yummy too :)

Would love to go back and try some more of their yummy cocktails too!

Disappointed in the latest new addition to Camberwellā€™s rapidly developing food scene.

A little more authenticity on the menu, some love put into the food preparation, and a more varied drinks list would go a very long way.

The fit-out is fun but would clearly benefit from Mexican tunes rather than beats.

Have to agree with the other reviewer - the base is there for a good eatery and the stuffed jalapeƱos were really good!!!

Updated following a couple more visits.
Consumed:1.Ā Chicken burrito bowl.Ā I can kinda see what they're going for here, but a collection of ingredients in a long, rectangular enamel... "trough" doesn't make for a particularly appetising presentation.Ā On the night the menu said that it came with potato salad (a strange addition, certainly), but it wasn't present in the dish.Ā It was difficult to determine until the dish had been half-eaten (it may have been under something else) so we just mentioned it at the end of the meal and a discount was applied. In terms of the ingredients... just okay.Ā The chicken was perhaps a little dry and could have done with some more spices.

2. Stuffed Jalapenos.Ā
Something I always try just in case they're good.Ā In this case, they were.Ā Decent-sized serving of crumbed, deep-fried jalapenos filled with cream-cheese and walnuts (the way poppers should be).Ā If it had been batter rather than crumbs it would have been better, but otherwise I can't fault it.Ā I was also happy that they hadn't gone the easy route and halved the peppers first - these were whole with the cap/stem included (again, the way they should be).Not sure why they're on the "Sides" part of the menu though.

Subsequent samples have been a bit inconsistently cooked - sometimes burned but with chilli flesh that is too firm.

3. Beef tacos.Pretty damn tasty.Ā Certainly some of the better tacos I've had at a restaurant in some time.Ā Could have done with a bit more beef in them, but overall, no complaints.

Recent sample was very salty.

4. Buffalo Chicken WingsSweet and sticky.Ā Good-sized serve and cooked well.Ā

5. Brownie
Warning: it is gluten free, so quite dense and without any of the chewiness that I prefer in brownies.Ā That said, it was a pretty tasty chocolate slice (I can't really call it a brownie).
6. Flan.A fairly standard cream caramel.Ā Quite heavy. Just okay.

7. Wagyu burger. Not great to be honest. Not a lot of flavour in a very close-textured and thick patty and the accompanying ingredients were pretty limp.

A little mixed - room for improvement but a good base to start from and I'm keen try to a few other options on their menu.
Wait staff seemed genuine when they asked how things were and were equally apologetic about the error.
Ā Originally 3.5 on the old scale, now down to a 3 at best.

The moment we walked into this establishment it had a modern feel. It was not that busy on a Saturday night but few people inside. I ordered the Enchalada and some taco, food was good, service was fine. We will come back but to give Fonda's a run for the money the quantity of the food needs to slightly increase and offer more choice.

Hola Mexico! You get to taste a bit of culture here at the trendy New Mexican restaurant in Hawthorn. I cannot rave more about this place. This is an absolutely trendy new restaurant that brings the flavours of Mexico šŸ‡²šŸ‡½ right to Melbourne. We enjoyed fish tacos, pork tacos, nachos (just gotta have them), mouth watering ribs and amazing cocktails! The venue is awesome, we loved the back area which is also under cover with heating but we went on a sunny day and was perfect sitting out the back! Highly recommend going!
