My local Thai restaurant , their food is delicious 😋 it’s so good I don’t get enough time to photograph it , as soon as it arrives my kids eat it !

I ordered from them on Uber eats with estimated 15 to 35 min delivery, an hour and a half later and I’m still waiting.

2stars because the food is ok at best but very expensive. I don't like being charged $4.50 for a small serving of jasmine rice. Even tho that's the price for coconut rice. Curry's at 17.50. too high. Atmosphere inside is cold and uninviting. The waitress is fulfilling uber deliveries or in the back.

I regularly order from here either pick up or on Uber Eats, Meals always ready within a reasonable time and prepared well. Chicken & Cashew stir fry is my fave and they always pack it with plenty of veggies as well! Great curry puffs and spring rolls and the few times I've dealt with their staff they've always been very friendly. :)

My first time to the Royal orchid Thai cuisine. The food was beautiful, good serving on your plate. My food was lovely. My friends meal was really nice he said. I would recommend it to anyone. The price was good. The staff was excellent and helpful.

Very dissapointing experience. The advertised 'stir fried garlic chicken with vegetables' wasn't at all a stir fry and contained no vegetables. To add to the disappointment, when I rang up to speak to the restaurant staff I got told it was my fault for not asking for vegetables. Very rude customer service and instead of trying to help just blamed me for not knowing how they've served this dish for 20 years.
Can safely say you should choose another Thai restaurant if you want good food and service!

Absolutely delicious food & great atmosphere!! Highly recommend!

Beautiful food & great service

Delicious creamy beef Penang curry and fragrant coconut rice. Pork-prawn spring rolls were nice as well. Reasonably priced. Great and quick service.

Summary:<br/><br/>Food - 2.5<br/>Drink - N/A<br/>Service - N/A<br/><br/>Would I come back - yes<br/><br/>I never dine in there, it's always take away. This time I ordered the Larb Gai and the Red curry chicken. Both are edible but I wouldn't call it superb. They got my order wrong, I asked for mild and they gave be hot. This place it's my regular Thai takeaway place. Always enjoy my Thai fried rice with chicken.<br/><br/>Returned again and the Larb Gai makes me have a tummy ache. I'm not one who's easily get tummy upset from food but really wasn't happy about that. I also ordered massamen beef, chicken satay and basil chicken stir fried. All pretty sweet. It is consistently too sweet. Otherwise the taste isn't too bad.

Some of the best Thai food I have ever eaten. So fresh and full of flavour. Food is made super fast, and it's very reasonably priced. It always sucks ordering a noodle dish and getting all noodles basically, but they're dishes are so full of fresh vegetables. Absolutely superb.

Was walking down Bay St and saw Emerald Elephant (another Thai restaurant) was full so decided to walk further down and sit myself down at Royal Orchard Thai, which is a smaller place (seats about 25 people maximum) but looked cozy enough, even though the chairs for each table are squashed too close to each other, and you will often clunk chairs if someone is sitting behind you.<br/><br/>Nice friendly female and male customer service. Ordered:<br/>* Royal, crispy fish salad which had a solid crunch and a decent mix of shaved apple, onion and cooked cashews. Although the fish was tasty, there were only 5 pieces on the plate and munched down pretty fast;<br/>* Chicken in stir fried, yellow curry with vegetables - sauce was a strong flavour, perhaps a generic one used for all those listed in the stir fried section. Decent amount of fish covered by capsicum and other vegetables. Normal flavour on the chicken, nice taste on the veggies, but a bit over-powering with the sauce;<br/>* Small coconut rice - tasted good, standard.<br/>* Green tea - sencha-style tea bag, complemented meal well.<br/><br/>Total: ~$50<br/><br/>Overall, a decent place with some alright dishes. Note that ratio of veggies to meat will be about 2:1. Good to head to for catching up with an old friend.

I've had Royal Orchid twice now and both times it's been exceptional. The staff are really friendly and one time I forgot to mention I wanted coconut rice and they changed it quickly and without hesitation. The red curry is my top pick, so creamy and delicious.

Really some of the best Thai food going around. Quality is really good with this dishes never having a whole heap of oil sitting at the bottom. Had the Penang Beef which was exceptional, flavours were first class and always are here. Consistent performer.

Very disappointed...average and not fresh flavours...the stir fried pepper & garlic beef had a strange flavour and the garlic was not fresh..terrible won't return for takeaway

Flavoursome enough but small portions and very slow. <br/><br/>Ordered take away as we had a menu at home. Quoted 20 minutes. Actual time was 40. <br/><br/>Highlight was the prawn crackers which were fresh and warm. Mussaman curry was ok, as was green curry. Roti was good.<br/><br/>In summary food was nice enough but not worth the wait.<br/>

It is a great Thai place! The service was great and the three dishes we tried were amazing. I would recommend it and I definitely will come back.

This would be one of my worst dining experiences out there. I admit I am fussy since I am in the same industry(hospitality) so I would have a higher expectation; but I usually get better service and food from a smaller restaurant than I would from a fine dining restaurant.<br/><br/>First off, there were 2 staff that were operating the dining area, one was very new and the other was trying to keep everything together. A table of 4, a table of 1, another table of 2 and myself and my partner. Normally we would get home delivery from here but we thought we'd eat at their restaurant for a change. Not to mention a strong smell of fish sauce in the restaurant that has either been dropped and mopped all around and a door mat that sits next to the table we were dining on.<br/><br/>We sat at our table which was directly under a fan, and it was a cold night so it was quite cold. It took approximately 15 minutes for the waiter to take our order. Both waiters were at the counter on the order screen either A) discussing about an order or B) the new girl is being trained. She is quite new, not only to hospitality but new to the country. She did quite well in obtaining our order. Also her hair was not tied up, and covering her face(warning!) When we asked to move tables, which was not under a fan cycling air like a tornado, the girl that took our order says it's fine, then starts breaking down the table dressing, and settings from the table next to the dirty one, without wiping it. My partner then asked for it to be wiped down. The waiter goes back and adjusts the tables and smiles. Obviously a communication break down but this isn't getting anywhere fast. I grabbed the napkins from our previous table and wiped all crumbs off the new table.<br/><br/>We were seated to a dirty table, next to the entrance, which had minimal wind damage from the tornado fan. As we sat, I observed the other diners as my own management skills were kicking in, and noticed that the man sitting by himself had not had his order taken, and was sitting there longer than we were. He made the effort to stand up and go to the counter to order directly! The group of 4 had their food coming out 1 dish at a time, or the wrong dish sent to their table which was supposed to be for the other couple sitting in the restaurant.<br/><br/>Our entree then finally came. Vegetarian Curry Puffs. I've never had anything wrong here with the food, and the reason why they get a 2 is because of the food alone. Obviously it's the standard open packet curry puffs but they're good. <br/><br/>Main course comes around and its Green Curry chicken and vegetables and Stir Fry chicken in oyster sauce with vegetables; plus coconut rice to share. Food is always nice, easy to eat and always seems fresh which not only makes me happy but my partner happy too.<br/><br/>The water refill was non-existent but I went up to the counter where the waiter(girl that had tried to keep everything under control) was on the phone taking take away orders/home delivery orders, and the new waiter running around like a headless chicken not knowing what is happening as I'm standing there at the counter! The waiter on the phone tells the other waiter to serve me. I simply ask for water refills. She smiled and went out the back to get the water. <br/><br/>Now while all of this circus act was happening they also have home delivery going in and out the door at rocket pace! Obviously quite popular and I'm starting the understand why the more I'm staying here dining at their restaurant. <br/><br/>Halfway through our main meals, the "in control" waiter gives us a bottle of water which I thought was nice, but upon refilling my and my partner's glass, the water has an almost sweet taste to it, which I brought it down to "its just the food" but when I looked at their bottles, around the rim, a build up of mildew/bacteria/slimed substance was around the inner rim of the bottle. This concluded our dining experience when we went to the counter and showed the waiter that brought us the bottle only to be replaced with another one. At this point I said that we would like our dessert to be take away, which their said it couldn't be done. Then I just told them to settle the bill and be done with it. $50 isn't a lot for the food we had, but the dining experience was quite astonishingly bad. Points to the waiter that tried to keep it together.<br/><br/>2/10. Stick to take-away or home delivery if wanting Thai food from here.
FOOD TRIP
Good Thai foods with thoughtful and pleasant service. The dishes are slightly on the pricier side, but flavour was quite good. Would recommend if in the area. James Boags Light ~ $6. Hot and Sour Soup with Prawn $9.90. One of the better Tom Yum soups we've had. Had just the right amount of spice and tang. King Prawns were nice and juicy. 8.8/10

"...A MOST DELICIOUS FEED..."<br/><br/>Tonight we ate at the ROYAL ORCHID THAI Cafe, Bay Street, Port Melbourne..<br/><br/>I so like it along there - nice wide divided road; a few trees; the original Victorian and Edwardian shopfronts, and verandas; hardly ever a prob to park, esp mid-week; a nice relaxed vibe, on both sides of the street; relatively quiet and devoid of non-dining hordes...<br/><br/>Anyway, we had lots of very very delicious Thai food and some really gorgeous 'pink lemonades' - loved it all - total cost for 2 extremely ravenous diners - just under $100 - it might sound a lot, but it's not - between the two of us we devoured 7 dishes in total.. <br/>Um.. yes.. we surely did...!!!<br/><br/>It's just a basic little Thai place to sit in, but you can eat like 'prince' and 'princesse', if you want to..<br/>The staff are efficient, courteous and quite elegant..<br/>We will be back...<br/><br/>Visited in March 2016 for dinner.

Friendly staff and authentic Thai meal. Generous portions. Love the Penang curry with Roti bread. Satay skewers are also a winner. Byo beer.
Amid
polite staff, treated voucher fairly and nicely. Drinks were not covered by voucher though. Entre was prawn cracker with peanut sauce and coconut soup with prawn. Both were above average in comparison with other Thai restaurants. Now here we go the main meals were disappointing. Barramundi fish was not fresh, covered in sauce that you could actually not see much of the fish and honestly it was a small portion. Pad see eew was just average. With tonnes of Thai restaurants around Melbourne, nothing eye catching to revisit. Just average .

My favorite Thai restaurant in Port Melbourne. Nice food & good service as always. Spring rolls, curry puff and duck salad were amazing! ^___^

Disappointing. Food was very average. Servings were stingy, for example if you want to say that Prawn Pad Thai is worth $22.90 then you really need to provide more than 3 prawns, a handful of bean sprouts and some noodles.<br/><br/>We had a voucher which was supposedly worth $108. I would have been disappointed if I paid half that for what we actually got. If the owners read this then I suggest thinking about the purpose of vouchers e.g. you want your customers leaving thinking that was great we'll come back again rather than that was mediocre at best and we won't even consider going back ever again<br/><br/>We rate it 4/10.

Been here twice now, and both times the service has been good and the tom yum is spot on delicious! Curry puffs were excellent the first time, the second time it wasn't as good but still tasty. I love the soft but crisp pastry. Unfortunately both times, the massaman and the green curry were way too salty. The crispy fish was memorable, with all the flavours hitting the spot. Pad see ew is also good. All in all, will be going back again
Sohahna
Pleasant surprise. Only got take away Penang curry which was very tasty with plenty of fresh veg. Not too heavy and lots of flavour without being overly sweet. Can't wait to try more things on the menu!

Yum! I've been trying few Thai restaurants in the street and found here is the best. Really love their Thai style salads, so tasty.
UK Stew
Proven fave. First ate here in 1992 when we lived in South Melbourne, pretty much my first taste of Thai food. Happy to see Taro & family are still there and continuing to make a fine Green curry! Very nice people.
Spicysal
The food was tasteless - massaman curry was watery, thai dim sim tasted funky. Will not be going here again!
Rob
Been going to this place for 25 years never again they are more interested in take away than service in the restaurant food incredibly slow and luke warm then to add insult they charge for doggy bag containers even though take sways are cheaper

Wonderful service, prompt delivery and tasty food. Recommended.

Consistently good. Never disappoints - have been ordering take away from here for years now and it is always good. Pad Thai is delicious and green curry a favourite.

Spring rolls tasted like supermarket pack and prawn pad thai prawns not cooked enough and too much tofu; not enjoyable at all.50min delivery for non peak time too long too. Won't order ever again

Local Takeaway Gem. Royal Orchid is perfect for takeaway convenience offering great quality tasting thai food. My favourite is the Green Curry Chicken! Dine is just as nice and the service excellent.
