Review Grab A Yabby - Melbourne

Johnny Le
Fun and new experience. Eat and play coming together. Don't be afraid to get messy. My honest review is everything that we order was extremely delicious. Customer service is exceptional, informative and consistence. Obviously with all seafood unless frozen are expensive (to each their own). As someone who eats regularly at home and dines here and there, this is definitely a higher end for the average Joe. But then again, it depends on how big of an appetite you have. I will say a dinner for two here including two wines cost me roughly $120. You can see from my previous reviews that we spend roughly $30-$60 for a dinner for two. This is 2-4 times more than the usual. But it was a celebration dinner nonetheless. The seafood you can definitely tell is fresh. They even provide wet wipes after you're finished !! I would definitely recommend this to someone with a desire for fresh seafood. I am definitely coming here again !

All day breakfast was ok but little bit pricy. The service was good.

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience at Grab a yabby,my wife ordered a crab, when it was brought to the table my wife found a long hair embedded in the crab. We informed the waitress of this, instead of resolving the issue right on the spot she informed us that she had to contact her boss to get a result, after waiting for 15 minutes she came back and said that it wasn't any of the chefs,s the waitress insinuated that the hair must've come from my wife. I found that very insulting towards my wife, the owner of the restaurant should have a good hard look at his/her staff.

Had a pound of prawns in garlic butter, the wife had mussels and we shared a side of chicken wings. All were so tasty and of decent size. Get stuck in while wearing gloves and a bib. Love their happy hour buy one, get one free and the staff here are lovely and attentive. See you again soon.

Bad service with food was not delicious and a bit pricing. We found a long hair stick around crab foot. We told them about the hair. 20 mins later, they told us :" all the chef had short hair and they wear hair net. You was nearly finished the dishes so we will give you 15% discount of that dish, the one with hair inside." ... they mean the hair belong to us. It s our fault !!! It s such a very very bad services !!!!

Review from a Texan, good customer service, but this review reflects the food. No flavor and overpriced Alaskan king crab. you only get half the crab legs instead of the full 8 legs of the crab. So that's 4 legs @ market price ($75) with one small potato and one small corn on the Cobb. No melted butter for dipping, no cocktail sauce . Not sure if that's normal in Melbourne, but definitely not worth the price. I will never know about the other meals available, but I would pass on all broiled dishes. Disappointed and will not return. Don't let the other reviews regarding the seafood fool you like it did me.

King Crab, mussels and lobster tail were delicious- the singaporian sauce (which is not on the menu) is to die for! We ordered it in mild and it was perfectly spiced and we dipped up every little bit of it! Don't be fooled by the red plastic table cloth when walking in. Staff were super friendly and informative, looked after us with exceptional service!

terrible service ! my friend pulled out a long hair from the alaska crab legs. she showed that to waitress. then waitress returned and told her all the waitresses serve outside not nearby kitchen, and their chef has short hair :) well, my friend has long hair but tied up, feel like they consult that hair belongs to my friend. very irresponsible. check the cctv then you will see where the hair comes from! wont ever come back there again

Was very good food. Great flavour. Generous serving. Loved it. Would go back again ta any time.

Service was great led by Christina and Thao.
Was a great way to see the family off with the bilingual speaking team.
Food was a delight and would definitely return again.
Grab a Yabby? Yes please

The service was good and staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered the prawns, Marron and yabby with the Grab A Yabby sauce, XO sauce and a side of garlic butter sauce. the flavours were average and overpriced for what it is. I’d recommend to try if you haven’t been before but I wouldn’t come back.

I am shocked and utterly disappointed to discover Grab A Yabby is not what I remembered.
A few years ago, the novel experience coupled with the fresh quality seafood at Grab A Yabby was one of a kind. Unfortunately, this time Grab A Yabby didn’t deliver with the same expectation. The taste of hot and cold clam suggested uneven cooking of frozen seafood. The toughness and awfully dry taste leave more room to doubt the freshness of the market priced seafood. The restaurant is located in a nice and quiet area, quality of service differ from different waiter/ress. I hope in the future that they will maintain a level of consistency and freshness.

Taste: 0.5
Aesthetics: 2.5
Service: 4
Ambience: 3.5
Very bad experience. Will definitely not return. Cannot take instructions and did not reserve crab that we drove over an hour to eat. A call was made prior to ensure no let downs and availability of mud crab. We were advised they will hold it for us, knowing the special occasion. Grab-a-yabby has ruined our anniversary dinner. I DONT recommend them at all!

I really like the alaskan king crab with XO sauce.Love it, and this is not the first time I having my dinner here and still the same taste like first time I came before.Good service and nice food. For sure will come back again.

Worth trying but may not revisit due to the price for the amount given
Each serving was 1 pound
Which was the recommended serving per person
Shared between 3 people, it was not filling

The yabbies are probably the best to eat there
Jess Tse
The food was really good, quick and staff were lovely. Yabbies were well cooked and was quite a unique experience. Would love to come back again

Service was super friendly and attentive; always happy to help and a pleasure to talk to. Very helpful for someone who has not been to this restaurant before like me. Best service I had.

Ordered the mudcrab, yabbys and king crab legs with three different sauces. Tools and bibs are provided as well as wipes and tissues when you're done eating. Everything was delicious and juicy but my top recommendation is the king crab legs with one of their new sauces. Take away boxes are also available if you can't finish your food.

Highly recommend this place for a small group of friends who loves seafood. Either way, a must try place. Thank you for the lovely dinner :)
ErikDerrick
The warmest service we've ever received. We were all impressed.

We ate the prawns and they were good. One person ate the mussels. Some ate the yabbys.

Yabby-dabby-doo.
Thanks,
Erik

Service was super attentive! The food was great!! I love the atmosphere and the aesthetic of eating seafood. I look forward to coming here again! Salmon was so crispy, I recommend!!

Experiencing asian x melbourne not-so-your-ordinary typical food!
Indulging the seafood with lots of flavours and perfect sauces using your own hand. Oh man,it was so good and satisfying. The portion was huge as you can see, the lobster was so amazing!
The staffs were very kindly explaining to us about the menu. The ambience was perfect to gather around with your friends or family.
Overall, will come back again!
BHAsFoodDiary

Can recommend the king crab legs and also the soft shell crab sliders, they are great. Agree with others that the prices are a bit sharp but you get good service and there is a great atmosphere. Worth a try.
Andie
Seafood is yummy especially the spicy sauce that comes with it. The place can get a bit busy but staff are able to serve customers in a reasonable time.
Ivy Lyu
I don't know why the rating is low, it is awesome! Better than most of the brunches!
The best order is the picture! Next time I will try another dish!
But place is not easy to find
Beii Tith
Amazing food and service! Best seafood I’ve had in a long time and was not disappointed! For the price we paid it was definitely worth it! Will keep coming back!

Had dinner here last night and was very disappointed. The service was good but food not so. I had the scotch fillet as did a few others on th the table. Ask for medium rare but the steak was overcooked and chewy. Don't think it was of good quality. I know the place is known for their seafood but if you're going to have steak on the menu then you should know how to cook it. Definitely not planning to go back.
Laura Bell
Pros: Good selection of seafood at a decent price. Fun dining experience.
Cons: Lobster slightly tough/overcooked. The waiter was doing a good job, but we felt a bit suffocated. I think no need to go through every single item on the menu (ie the sides and drinks) and probably best not to ask for feedback about the restaurant all the time.

Overall, pretty good.
Phillip Quach
Great food and atmosphere, went here with a group of friends for one of my best mate's birthdays and the food definitely did not disappoint, service was decent, but in my personal opinion the dishes were a bit overpriced. Would recommend the pipi's despite it being the cheapest option on the menu, cheapest definitely does not mean low quality, get em with the XO sauce and it's happy days. Lobster tail was a bit overcooked and garlic butter sauce was a bit lacking in flavour.

First time being here. Im a fan of craw fish so strongly recommend this restaurant. I order a whole king crab and 1.5kg of yappy for 6pp that night. Good price, Good food, Good service
Thao
I and my friend came here on a Thursday evening wanting to try yabby.
The service was nice.
However, the food was average but overpriced!
It's worth try once, but no next time!

What a wonderful place, set in the maze of the CBD, the place isn't big, but it possesses a warm cosy atmosphere.

Came here with family, ordered the crab and it was fun too eat. Crab on point - tender and cooked to perfection. Sauce was hektic. The range of food was impressive. Got a little messy & hilarious, but thats too be expected when your banging crabs with a hammer.

Service was great, waiters always checked if we needed anything. Came at happy hour too, a real bonus.

Price is punchy, but then again its too be expected in the CBD.

Wonderful and funny experience overall.
TimJ
Generally good, but overpriced for what it is.
We ate there once, had yabbies, king crab and ribs with chips as a side.

Yabbies had almost no flavour except for the sauce, crawfish a little more flavour but not worth it. The ribs were cooked well and meat fell off the bone. King crab legs were much smaller than expected with little meat, but very sweet and fresh.

Prawns would have been better to order due to the yabbies and crawfish having little flavour. Cheaper, more meat and more flavour.

We accidentally found this place. It was in the middle of Melbourne CBD. This medium size cozy place offered quite different menu compare to the other restaurants in the CBD. Friendly staffs, food were nice, price medium not too expensive. They also offered wine and mocktail. They also serve a share plate so that you can share. Share plate portion not too big and the yabby's size is a bit small. But if you want something different this place worth to try. Oh and we prefer the XO sauce instead the Grab a Yabby sauce 😃.

Visited Grab a Yabby on Saturday night and ordered 3 lb of yabbies, surf n turf with lobster tail and a cluster of king crab legs. The food here is decent, everyone liked the xo sauce. The yabbies didn't have much flavour so the sauces really did help. Steak wasn't great which is expected.

Service was friendly and prompt. The place is small so the tables are a bit squishy. Overall an enjoyable but pricey meal, a place I'd only try once.

SOOO WORTH THE MONEY. Haven't tried anything else beside king crab legs with XO sauce. But it was love at first sight. I'm talking about the XO sauce. Suit with any sea foods (I think...) I wish they had more customers so that I would not embarrassed about me "kissing" each of the crab legs haha...
Anh Phan
It was a pleasant experience, getting our hands on the food. XO sauce is the best for seasoning. Dipping the rice into the sauce is the best way to eat. Probably cone back agaib some time.
Food For Life
Took my gf to this place to celebrate International Women's Day. Food was amazing especially the yabby and king crab leg in XO sauce. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely come back to try their other seafood and dishes.

Our first dinner in Melbourne. We ordered their Mega rack ribs and serving was good for a family of four.Besides being satisfied with the meal we also had fun eating with our bare hands.Downside was prices are a bit expensive but We'll definitely come back to try their seafoods.
Food-ing
After experiencing seafood in a bag in the States on our recent trip, i knew i just HAD to try grab a yabby. The concept was too similar for me to pass this one up. So when we arrived with our party, we asked for a high chair only to be told that they don't have high chairs. My first thought was - how is that kid friendly? You can't list yourself as kid friendly if you don't have a high chair!
We salivated over the menu. We were yabby ready. Although the prices were a bit on the high end, we went in with an open mind. I mean, this could end up being the best yabby we've ever had. The bibs and gloves came out and the excitement kicks in. The yabbies and prawns come out as well as our sides and i have to say - wow. Disappointment kicked in. The yabbies were tiny. The seafood was not fresh. Not that it was off...but you could tell that it was taken out of the freezer. The sauce was great. I loved that sauce with the rice and corn. Such goodness.
Our ribs came out soon after - and whilst it was nice, i found the sauce much too salty. After the first rib, it just became overbearing. Not the greatest way to finish your meal.
I really wished for Grab A Yabby to be amazing. I wanted it to be. The concept is still a great concept. It just needs better execution. If you're gonna charge market price, then provide market seafood. Not frozen goods.
Traceynn
Grab a Yabby was a fun and messy experience. For the 7 of us, the bill came up to $480ish because we over ordered as usual. The seafood is ordered in pounds and there are 3 sauces. We got a bit of everything to try it out. The meat dishes we ordered were also delicious, with the rib meat falling off of the bone and the steaks were beautifully cooked and tender. It's a We also made full use of the happy hour 2 for 1 drink special and got 14 drinks. Worth a visit and you definitely need to wear the provided bibs.

What a great place was walking around the cbd looking for something to eat and came across this little gem of a place great food excellent staff there surf and turf was one of the best steaks I have had in a long time nicely cooked really great place

I was pretty skeptical coming here given the reviews and I've been to Hot and Juicy Crawfish in Vegas so i wasn't sure if anything else would be as good but this place is not bad at all. I'm going there tonight (second night in a row). You have to get a minimum of 1Lbs per seafood. It is pretty empty even on a Friday night.

I went with my fiancé and got the clams and yabbies on garlic butter sauce, along with the berry mocktail and soft shell crab slider. All was pretty good.

We went when they first opened and we remember everything was only OK. However, we returned again after about a year of not visiting and we were impressed of the service. We had the king crab legs, yabbies and the mega ribs. The foods are delicious, the mock-tail is amazing. Pleasant place. This place by far is the best place for seafood in CBD.
Bite Into It
I found that the beef ribs were to die for as it was soft and tender. There were other parts that weren't but in general i would come here and have it again. We also had the pork ribs which came out still undone, so they had to take it back and recook it but we only received half the rack. Im not sure where the other went and to also get charged full price for it.

Was looking through zomato and found this Vietnamese owned seafood restaurant so I decided to give it a try.
Service here was good as soon as we went in, we ordered the yabby with the traditional yabby sauce, clams with XO sauce and some crab legs.
It came with corn and A bowl of rice. The crab leg tasted like frozen crab legs that weren't fresh, there wasn't a fresh crab taste instead it was quite soggy. The rice didn't really pair up that well as there's not much flavors.
The sauce didn't taste like XO at all it tasted like canned beef sauce with a lot of oil and no flavour.
There was ALOT of sand in the clams so I don't think they cleaned it that well. It was in nearly every single one. The thing we enjoyed the most was the apple juice we ordered. Not worth the price at all.

Had high expectations for this place being highly rated by my friend. Who organised a birthday for her partner. We had a group of 10 on Saturday night for the 8:15pm session.
It wasn't busy.
However we waited about 1hour for our food to arrive.
Steaks were not cooked properly. Well done steaks were still bloody, medium rare steaks were cooked well done.
Salmon was cooked way past well done, it was extremely dry.
I believe there was some trouble in the kitchen, however for such a quiet night it just wasn't good enough.
Everyone's food came out at different times.
Definitely won't be back and would not recommend!
The only thing enjoyable was the berry mocktail
Heard about this restaurant from friends, we decided to come yesterday night (saturday). Staffs was warmly and friendly. Actually Yabbi - a super star of the restaurant but the taste wasn't surprise me at all. It's quite soft and blank compare with some kind of prawn. The highlight of the dish was the sauce, you have to try the Yabbi's special sauce, (XO and butter garlic it's ok ) It's sensation. Another important point is the King crab legs, in my opinion, it's much better tasty than the Yabbi, coconut Jelly also an amazing desert. Overall, although it's little bit pricey and disappointed my expectable but the staff attitude and fresh seafood recover some lose points about the Wabbi.

I Hate Seafood!! especially Shellfish, but as a special request from my Best Friend for her Birthday, I went to Grab-A-Yabby. We were welcomed with some friendly faces and GREAT customer services. The menu was simple to read, and had some good options especially for non- seafood eaters. The Dishes came out fast and fresh with a Fantastic Aroma. We ordered the Surf and Turf (included a Lobster Tail, A juicy lean steak, and a side of chips and salad) and a Pound of Yabbys with OX Sauce. I was very keen on the steak but after a few persuasive words from my friend I tried a Yabby. To my Surprise, my deep hatred for seafood became a crazed obsession. I ate one yabby after the other and got lost in the AMAZING taste of the OX sauce and the meat of the yabbys. An added bonus was the enjoyment I felt when cracking the claws with a child size mallet and sucking the delectable meat hiding within. There was no fears of getting splatted by our mallet mashing on my lovely new suit and my favorite shirt as I was provided with a beautiful Bib and gloves. Thanks to my friend and Grab-A-Yabby, I am now a SEAFOOD LOVER, always thinking about that Yabby and I can't wait to return to repeat my Memorable experience.

Amazing food! Taste amazing, messy! Get to play with your food. Great experience, service was good as well. Remember not to wear white! Will definitely coming back for more
David Food Leasing
DO: The soft shell crab sliders, wingers, ribs and surf and turf combo (yabby or crab).

DON'T: Be that one person that eats with a knife and fork. This is messy and will get messy.

TIP: Don't wear a white business shirt like I did.
KungfuKitty
Come here for the yabby but I prefer their king crab. Order with grab a yabby sauce. I like how they come with a sambal which is unusual but it gives a bit of kick to the flavour. The prawn is a hit and miss as sometimes they overcook it. Soft shell crab burger, sweet potato fries and onion rings are good for sides. Dont wear white shirt coming here, they will give you bib and gloves but still can be pretty messy (or maybe just me)
TT
A good concept however much more expensive than eating the same food in USA. Sauce is good, but not the best, try not to order too much coz in the end they all taste the same. The lobster we got were rubbery & plain.
Ryan Lui
Great service from the staff there, service with a smile on their face.
The Calamari Ring appetisers were definitely not worth $12 as there was probably about 8 pieces in there, way too greasy as well.
Soft shell crab sliders were tasty but the sauces were hidden in the thick buns they use.
Lobster Tail with XO sauce was a highlight, easy to eat with plenty of flavour, wish there was more!
Australian Yabby with the Grab-A-Yabby special sauce was a little strong in pepper and overloaded in butteriness, if you like that.
Pippies in XO sauce was great, the sauce has great lemongrass balance, ticked all the boxes with this one, just wish we ordered more!
Their Blue Swimmer pack with Garlic Butter sauce was below par with the sauce, felt that there was a lack of garlic presence with the butter being overpowering but within the pack contained Blue swimmer crabs & mussels.
Overall bill just under $190, pleasant experience but would prefer a wider range of beers, possibly better pairings with their seafood offerings.
Hungry Caterpillar
Place was quiet for a friday night. There's 2 sessions available 6 to 8pm or 8 to 11pm. A table of 3, we ordered 2 servings of sweet potatoe fries, 1 pound of yabbies, 1 Alaskan king crab leg, 1 serving of prawns with chorizo sausages in each bag. Food and 4 glasses of wine came to $171. Service: 8/10
Pink.rhapsody
A great source of seafood and the staff are very excited; the food was tasty but too much garlic. Could benefit from a better beer list and more realistic pricing. Good experience.

Laat min booking on a Friday and we got a table yay!! A place where gloves and bibs are required because you just want to dig into your foods so who care about the clothes!!!

Service was highly attentive!! Everyone was so friendly and pleasant to deal with!

Simple layout - in the causeway laneway opposite myers.

Variety of foods.. Had the chicken and soft soft grabs and they were both delicious!!! If you like your chilly hot.. Then try the lava chicken wings.. They were hot!!! Ans i only had a lil taste - i had to scoff down my beverage!! We then ordered grab, yabby in xo and something else i cant remember sauce along with the ribs for main. Yabby unfortunately was just ok despite the store name..
John Nguyen
Hmmmm...wow i have been here 7 times and never walked out without a happy smile. Those sauces they made are just wonderful but a bit too oil. King crab legs and yabby are to die for, tasted so good and easy to peel as their staffs were showing me clearly steps by step how to.Drink are a bit expensive and tables are quite small for a big grab-a-yabby night!.
Dannis Yo
Fun environment coupled with amazing and helpful staff really made our experience enjoyable. Wasn't expecting anything fine dining and got exactly what I had imagined, a fun night with amazing seafood dipped in awesome sauces. Using our hands brought me and my girlfriend back to when we travelled in Asia, things weren't too serious and the food was simple and delicious. Price was just a pinch salty but worth the price if you add value to the experience and not solely just the food. :)

Amazing food ! Amazing service 👌
The staff are super friendly , happy and up for a chat. We ordered soft shell crab slider which is awesome , surf and turf combo which is a great value with yummy steak and big lobster tail in Xo sauce , yabby was very tasty and fresh in Grab A Yabby special sauce , king crab leg in garlic butter sauce. All the food was bang on !!!! Highly recommend and we would come back for second of everything 👍👍👍

Nice visit. We ordered soft shell crab sliders, king crab legs and yabby. The special sauce and XO sauces were amazing, fresh seafood, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Will be back for sure. Highly recommended
Andrew Knight
The service here was awful. So bad in fact that we walked out in frustration without getting a chance to try the food. They need to work at getting the basics right before we will return.
Sandy Pok
Ordered the soft shell crab sliders, crispy grilled pork rib, and yabby's with the grab a yabby sauce. Between two people it came to $50 bucks each.

We saw a rat in the restaurant after our meal. A RAT. Staff did nothing.

You sure you want to eat here? Not only is it expensive, but you will also be graced with a rat under your table to pick on your leftovers.
Camilla Pham
Totally a Rip off place!!! doggy with the price.
We would never ever come back here!😡😡
Yabbies at the market price costs $49 per bounds.
Yeah I know seafood is pricey but this price is a joke...🙀.
We ordered a yabbies with special sauce, the yabbies came out were quite tiny like your finger lol. My bf and my sister were struggling to get any meat out of it. We told them to make the sauce mild but it turned out still quite spicy.
Vegetarian sliders...ewww...boring with some slice of veggie for $12 Lolss
And the most annoying thing here is the bill. In australia, the price of the food include GST by itself. Here they make it separate, the total price of the dishes and plus GST. By doing that way, they understates their price for each dish by %10. Such a smart bastard!! Dodgy Business!!
So beware of it guys, the price is a rip off plus %10 for GST for an average food... what a joke!!@
Sammy
Nice food, worth a visit. Tried the yabbies, soft shell crabs sliders, fisherman packs. Amazing flavours. Should book it as they don't have many tables, else u will regret when u go there seeing other peoples eating the yummy dishes))
Jo N
I would definitely come back for the yabbies. With the special sauce is delicious. Mudcrab was nice but so expensive. Chips were nice too and seafood comes with rice. Tables were probably too small especially with all the apparatus and bowls.
Jo Shmo
Dined here with a fairly large group the staff were friendly and service was efficient. The seafood was nice but nothing special, nevertheless it was great experience and fun getting down and dirty with the seafood. Only let down was the expensive market price on the seafood.
DrinkAndFeast
Truly a unique hands on dining experience at grab a yabby, centred around selecting your seafood, sauce and hotness level. We ordered sliders, chips, onion rings, the basket and lobster. I don't recommend ordering the sides, they are a bit light on as our onion rings were very poor, they were 4 Strips for $6. The lobster was ok, but overpriced for what it was.
Many people choose the fisherman's basket, as it gives you the variety you want. I cannot fault the sauce, it is exceptionally tasty, more like a curry to be honest. We loved the garlic butter and grabayabby special. Even though we had a mild hotness level it still had a kick (which was good) , so be warned. The whole experience allows you to eat with your gloved hands and smash the seafood with your hammer. You'll still get dirty despite the gear as the bibs are small and don't cover much, the gloves routinely are breached due to the sharpness of the average seafood and then stick to your hands because there's so much deliciously oily sauce, but moreso the hammer smashing. Make sure you cover it somehow with a napkin as it may hit the adjacent table diners (my bad). In essence, expect to get durrttyy even though you're gloved and bibbed up. All in a all, a pleasant experience, delicious sauces however slightly long wait times for the food and a bit pricey for what it was.
Lovefood
$7.50 for lemon lime bitters.. wow
$40 = roughly 5-6 yabbys
$500 spent on the night between 5 people and we were more satisfied in chinatown
pippis with x.o sauce was disgusting, ordered 2 pound and it was soaked with lemon grass, no one ate it.
ONLY thumps up was their x.o yabby sauce which was delish. all other seafood available was a rip off, mud crab market price $60 a pound?? pfff
Crystal Ho
Great atmosphere and the most amazing staff but the seafood was not as fresh as I thought it would be. Maybe it was just my high expectations from waiting all week to go or maybe it was the fact that it cost $50ish give or take, for just one pound of yappy and Alaskan crab legs. I could feel my pocket tightening as I ordered but it was still an enjoyable experience getting down and dirty to eat seafood :)
W
Def found it to be a little too messy - but if youre the type who enjoy getting down n dirty - smashing shells and lickin ya fingers, THEN THIS IS THE RIGHT PLACE. But Im not gona lie, it was delicious. Staff were enthusiastic and really helpful. Quite expensive, approx 5 Yabbys = 1 pound. 4.5/5 of yabby succesfully made it into my mouth, 0.5 brave yabbys were lost due to my partners skilled shell hammering technique! Sorry to the unfortunate couple who coped it next to us! Haha def a unique $$$ experience.

If you looking for a restaurant that will gives you an unique fun dining experience . Family friendly ,Reasonable price point and most importantly not to scare for being messy .Then Grab A Yabby is the perfect restaurant for you . I normally don't like to be messy when it comes to eating food and i hate any type of seafood has a shell because I don't know how to peel it off . But I thought I would give this place a try . Because it looks fun and the best thing is they provide you the little red crab peeler that will make your life 10000times easier . ( i will need this in my life lol) we first ordered the mini soft shell crab sliders for entree . When you put that slider in your mouth. You can literally taste the combination of that salsa sauce and mayo as well as the big soft shell crabs sticking out from the burger . Tasted so delicious, then we had morten bay bug with garlic and butter sauce . Decent portion you get three bugs and one corn and rice on the side . Sauce is to die for . And morten bug itself was abit over cooked to my liking , I didn't mind it because the sauce was so good but I don't think I will order that dish again . And last we have this giant Alaskan king crab legs with grab a Yabby sauce in mild Grab a Yabby sauce is basically a garlic butter sauce mix with abit of Spice in it .. Alaskan king crab was really nice .that crab peeler makes it so much easier to peel it off . And it was so fun to play around with it . I wouldn't recommend this for any people going on a first date. Unless you want garlic butter all over your face or you wanna give them a smell your garlic breath miles away . Enjoy :)

Much spicier than expected.

The staff were very friendly and explained what was on the menu. The food was nice; our group ordered the hot option, which was much spicier than I had expected. The staff offered complimentary milk which helped with the heat. My favourite seafood was the Moreton Bay bugs and favourite sauce was the Grab a Yabby special.

Overall, the food was above average, but was a bit overpriced.

GRAB A YABBY - was it good? above average, but prices are obviously not entirely enticing. Do not try the LAVA WINGS - it burns from inside out, ruined my taste buds, if you're up for the challenge, tell them to put the bloody sauce on the side as a side dip (just in case you don't like it). Besides Moreton Bay bugs everything else was pretty fresh, their special sauce & XO sauce was good, not salty like the ones I've had in the U.S. Everything comes with corn and small rice, so no need to order any of that as side dishes, their garden salad complimented well with my burning mouth... they'll offer milk if you can't handle the heat

One of the precepts behind Grab-A-Yabby is that its a fun dining experience where friends and family can come together and share food in a relaxed atmosphere and by just looking around the restaurant, it was clearly evident that this vision has come to fruition.

The first Cajun styled seafood in Melbourne. The sauces are pretty good but for the price, it's way overpriced. I think Australia is just expensive for seafood in general. There were no yabbies when I came and I was looking forward to having that. Overall it's good, just overpriced.

Thought we would try something different and gave this place a try. All lovers of seafood and willing to warm up with some chilli on a Melbourne winter night. Started off with the soft shell crab sliders. Oh my were they amazing!! The amount of soft shell crab in them was beyond belief!! We ordered a second round! Seafood is by the pound. We got the yabbies in the special grab a yabby sauce, mussels in garlic butter and Moreton bay bugs in the inferno sauce. Our favourite was the yabbies by far! There's no cutlery or plates, just bibs and gloves, so possibly avoid for a first date lol

When they tell you it's hot- it's hot!! Had the lava wings and boy was it a stinger! The soft shell crab sliders were super delicious and the lobster tail was well cooked. We had our lobster in xo sauce and it came with a cob if corn and some rice on the side

Interesting and delicious eating experience!. Great place with delicious fresh seafood and friendly service. Eating seafood is usually a bit of a chore but this place makes it super fun with the cute bibs, gloves, hammer and various tools! Seafood was perfectly cooked definitely recommend the Moreton Bay bugs and Alaska crab legs. The variety of sauces are all delicious, great for sharing! One thing to note, the Lava wings are SERIOUSLY hot, proceed with caution or ask for milk as an accompaniment.
