Popped in for lunch yesterday and tried the $18 lunch special. Good atmosphere and friendly service. I ordered the chicken burger which came with chips and chose a house Chardonnay to match. Price wise, it was a good deal. The burger was okay, chicken was moist and cooked well and the salad was fresh although the bun was a bit cold and stale. Overall an okay place for an affordable work lunch.
We used El Coco for our engagement party venue and can’t rave enough about the night. The venue is beautiful and the staff are beyond helpful and we’re such a pleasure to work with to set up the night. The venue allowed us to bring in our own entertainment such as a beer pong table and giant jenga ect so accommodating to how we wanted the night to be. The food was unreal (especially the arancini balls) we were able to bring in a grazing platter on top of the food we organised for the night which was a huge relief cause a lot of places had said no to bringing anything other then dessert. I would highly recommend using this space for any event. Thanks guys you made our night one to remember.
Parma's are SENSATIONAL !!!!! Not sure why people are bitching about $6 pizza not being up to scratch... Pretty sure they are not meant to be luscious expensive meals ha ha. The parma's are sick and come with fat chips I could eat for daysssssss. Bit of a mixed crowd, lots of suits, lots of students, lots of backpackers it looks like, so fully sweet vibe most of the time. The lads in the bar are good value too. Defs head here for a feed before a night clubbing on King St
I recently held my engagement party at El Coco and we had the night of our lives! Everything was fantastic, Tom the venue manager was wonderful and nothing was too much for him, all the staff were very friendly and the food and beverage service was exceptional. It all went so smoothly, Caitlin the Functions Coordinator was great to deal with and gave me a wonderful deal with the food and beverages at a very reasonable price. We had about 170 people on the night and there was plenty of room for all. Thank you so much El Coco, everyone LOVED the venue and we had such a fantastic night!!
Love the happy hour prices and the pizza is great! The set up of the bar is really chill but the music can be a little too loud which makes it difficult to have conversations with friends.
We came for drinks on a Tuesday night and were pleasantly surprised that they had trivia, which was top notch by the way. We decided to try their chips and $6 pizzas. The chips were hot, thick, and crispy with a meaty interior that they were above average. The pizzas were average, but decently priced for what you get. They were decent sized and flavorful, with a crust that was chewy and had crisp edges.

I caught up with my old team for lunch at El Coco today. It's a kind of quirky decorated pub. I realised only when I was in there that I had been there once before much later in the evening and in a more inebriated state. Don't you hate those flashbacks? Anyway the pub actually had a laid back feel and you could play board games, or computer games if you had the time for it.
The big draw card for much of the team was the $6 pizzas while myself and others were taken by the $15 parma deal. I was hopeful that the parma deal would be extended to include the Mexican parma I had been eyeing up on the menu but it was only available on the classic and the mash and gravy parma. We were all sadly on a "no drinking at lunch" obligation with the company we work for which was not great as it was quite the day for a lunchtime bevvy. They have a $12 jug special which is pretty darn good if you ask me.
In the end I opted for the parma with mash and gravy.
So $6 pizza... I can only comment on the look not the taste but based on the look I'd say no good can come from a $6 pizza! They looked very average but perhaps I'm fussy as those consuming seemed to be happy with what they were eating. Only comment from one consumer was that the chicken was a little dry.
My parma and mash, which I had assumed was parma with mash instead of chips actually came out with the mash and gravy on top of the parma itself and still with chips. It also came with an incredibly lack lustre salad. I seldom eat the salad anyway so this wasn't a problem. The parma was well cooked and tasty. The chips were beer battered and I reckon had chicken salt but others disputed that. What we didn't dispute was how delicious the chips were. So crunchy... perfectly cooked. The parma was a tad small compared to others I've eaten but I'd say the size was good for me.
Would I eat here again....um yes as long as I don't have to have the pizza. Perhaps I would give that Mexican parma a crack, or if I was really hating my heart I could try one of the Halal Snack Packs (HSP's) which looked like they would be good at clogging something.
Love this place! Had our elopement party there last weekend, and could not have asked for a better evening. Venue space is well thought out & versatile, staff were amazing & incredibly helpful, food serves were plentiful & delicious, and the bar tab went a long way! You won't be disappointed =)
Went for a language exchange meetup, and most of us were just having drinks. I love the atmosphere; music's not too loud, place is nicely lit and the couches are great to chill on and chat.
I really enjoyed eating lunch at El Coco. The veggie pizza is lovely. Can't believe it was only $6, such a bargain, and lots of topping! There is a great atmosphere. I love that there is a table tennis table there! Must go back there and play a game of table tennis against someone. Who is game? :) Also, nice champagne as well! Keen customer service, and tables are cleared up quite promptly. Would definitely return :)
Here at ParmaDaze we have a little problem with pubs in Melbourne's CBD - Namely that we've done most of them. After 6 years of reviews finding a parma in the heart of Melbourne that we've yet to sink our teeth into is becoming rarer and rarer as the weeks roll on. . I've had "El Coco" scrawled on a post-it note on the wall of my office for the better part of a year, but something about the name of the pub doesn't scream "Aussie pub", and thus it never really grabbed me, but we needed a parma in the city! It had been a while since we ventured into the CBD, so I figured it time to give El Coco a crack. The last time I was at 120 King st. it was known as The Exchange Hotel, and, while we never had a parma there, I remember it being a decent spot.
We recently had our engagement party at El Coco and I have to say it worked out perfectly! Caitlin always kept us in the loop in preparation for our party and Matt who managed the night was amazing also. All out guests fell in love with the venue as much as we did. A little hidden gem :)
Fun, laid back hang out. Perfect for relaxed after work drinks. We stayed for bar snacks & pizza. it was really well priced, cheap eats that filled us up. We made the most of the happy hour. definitely coming back here for cheap lunch eats during the week.
With 3 days notice they held our Christmas function for 50 and it was the best one yet. People love the finger food, especially the Potok sliders. Staff were brilliant.
Good atmosphere, best happy hour in the CBD I reckon. And really tasty pizzas, especially lamb pizza so good. Coming back!
Massive!. Came here for lunch as it's around the corner from work, and was impressed.
Portion sizes are massive, I had the stackwich and potato wafers. The burger was massive with beetroot and egg, reminded me of an Aussie burger.
Recommend sharing the wafers, as both these and the stackwich was too much! I'll be back.
Great Addition!. Finally this end of the city gets somewhere that serves up decent food, and drinks! Have popped in here a few times for work lunches, and love the space, staff, and food options.
I had the soft shell crab tacos, which were a decent serving and delicious. Also the stackwich is excellent! Waffle fries are pretty good, but servings a bit small.
Staff are lovely, and up for a chat. Looking forward to having a drink here one night too, the menu is enticing!
Great to have a pub on King Street that isn't gross. With a fresh new fit-out, a good range of tap beers and a lunch menu with all items circa $10, this new pub is becoming a favourite. Had the beef rib burger today and it was up there with the best - and I eat a lot of burgers. With a $4 side of waffles fries to share it was a very good meal indeed.
