Came here for dinner with a small group and we rolled out with our Korean craving satisfied . One of the only Korean restaurants I've been to in Melbourne with 10 free side dishes to go with your meal. Were opted for the banquet for 4 which included a starter, 4 mains, mini stew, rice and icecream. The dishes were authentic and everything we tried was exceptional.
Overall I'd definitely come back and make this one of our regulars.
Loved the beef short ribs! It's no trick to cook beef ribs to "fall off the bone" or "melt in your mouth" (as the Western palates prefer), but! It does require some culinary skills to do this cut justice: tender meat still a bit resilient against your teeth, flavourful juice coming out with every chew, easily off the bone with a gentle bite on the connective tissue which is full of collagen and texture. Exactly. Cooked. To. Perfection. You can hardly find any lunch better value than this for only 15 bucks! Soybean paste stew was something not often seen on a Korean menu and it turned out to be more like a tomato based stew than doenjang based as I'd expected. Not bad though.
I'm so proud of Hansang in my neighborhood with such high standard of service and dishes. I like the way they placed the dishes in order on a spacious table made me feel like a king having big feast in an enjoyable warm heritage opposite whole bunch of deciduous trees in Flagstaff garden.
A very homey restaurant located in West Melbourne. The staff was friendly and helpful. They are very generous with their side dishes. Food was very tasty, especially the braised pork belly dish. Would recommend getting the set menu as it is good value for money.
It’s taken a while to get to this point but it looks like my taste buds have finally warmed to Korean cuisine. And one of my favourite things about Korean dining is the accompanying banchan side dishes. Hansang’s drawcard is not only their quality cooking but also the extensive variety (and generosity) of their accompanying banchan dishes. We steered towards some traditional favourites for our mains: a fresh bibimbap and an immensely flavoursome kimchi jjigae stew. An utterly delicious and satisfying spread.
The best Korean restaurant in Melbourne! Can’t believe they been around for the past 3 years.. comfort Korean food at its best👍🏻
Went the second time to here, hands down side dishes are just amazing. Tried spicy beef soup which was super duper spicy. Lol should have believed them when they say spicy. Also tried this fish stew which was very fishy, fish was nice and soft and felt a lot like homecooked. Seafood pancake was beautiful. We weren’t unable to finish the dishes so we took some home and it only costed us $25 for a dinner so that was really good value.
For family style Korean dining, Hansung is worth coming to with a small group.
A lot of Korean restaurants might give you 2-3 side dishes, but Hansung will stock you up with like, 10 side dishes of different varieties. I could just have a small bowl of rice and side dishes and be happy.
The grilled mackerel was delicious, naturally oily and slightly salted from a curing process.
Kimchi Jjigae - spicy, acidic and warming stew, it had a good depth of flavour.
It's comforting to see many Korean locals frequenting the restaurant as well.
Come here for an authentic Korean experience!
An authentic Korean eatery with a subdued kind of vibe. Definitely seems like the chefs take a lot of care in what they do. The spicy chicken stew was not as spicy as advertised, rather the spice was tastefully and evenly distributed, with a very deep, rich chicken flavour. Not the typical watery soup with sandy chilli powder that other Korean joints purvey. Bulgogi was not too rough or chewy, with good flavour. The zucchini pancake was crisp and thin, very satisfying. Perhaps slightly oily but not overpoweringly so.
Ample rice was provided for all members of the table, and special mention should go to the side dishes which are each well-crafted and a cut above other rival places.
Given a table with just one dim light in the corner so ambience was not great. However, food was delicious! The side dishes are tasty and theres so much food you'll be so full!! Main dishes are wonderful especially the spicy pork. Kimchi soup provided is just ok but honestly super good value anyway.
Loved the food. Great tasting. This place has a selection of korean fish dishes. A must try. Sets it apart from most other korean restaurants.
This is my favourite Korean place in all of Melbourne. Every time I visit this restaurant, the food is delicious! My favourite part is the banchan they offer. No Korean restaurant has as much variety as these guys which is a shame as banchan has a special place for Koreans when ordering food. All Korean places should be offering a variety of banchan to showcase Korean cusine and I am very happy that Hansang does this. Just wish they were also in the Eastern suburbs!
Authentic hidden korean eatery.
Located just aross flagstaff garden, it's really homey and cosy. Been here few times and it was less noisy than most places and not crampy either.
The staffs were friendly, food came out after a reasonable wait but sometimes its a bit hard to call someone up.
Pork belly (bossam) was reallly good! The meat was soft and juicy but slightly charred and even better with the dipping sauce and radish kimchi on the side, we couldn't get enough of. For a small size, the portion was pretty good.
Beef bone soup (seolleongtang) came bland but served with a special salt so we can adjust the saltiness. Nonetheless the soup was really rich, definitely could taste the bone marrow, I really liked it. Inside were some soft type of vermicelli which I enjoyed, it's just that the beef meat were barely there which was kinda sad.
Beef bulgogi was rubbery, taste was good though. Their zucchini pancake was one of the better ones in town as it was crispy and tasted yum, though zucchini can be more generous as i tasted more onion instead. However yukgaejang tasted nothing like the ones I've had, this one was more of like preserved vegetable soup instead, so it was pretty disappointing.
Spicy pork bulgogi (small) was actually yummy, size was what you'd get at most korean restaurants, and meat was tender, flavorful and not too spicy, though I'd prefer if there are some carrots or cabbage in it, as there are only onions and sping onions. Still great.
Nonetheless the best part of this restaurant had to be the side dishes. There were 8 side dishes served! They're not even scanty, I was satisfied. There are the common kimchi, beansprouts and fishcakes which i enjoyed, then there were tofu, eggplant, broccoli salad, cucumber kimchi, and braised potatoes. I actually really enjoyed them all.
PS. You get 10 side dishes only if you order their set menu, we got only 7 this time. Plus they are refillable and also (5% disc for cash payments!)
Overall, tad bit pricier than usual Korean joints and would need some improvs on some dishes and hopefully have more food options but the pork belly and side dishes were fantastic.
( follow for more!✨)

Great place.... caught up with the family and had ox bone broth, grilled Pacific Saury and beef bulgogi the food was great. Tiny place in West Melbourne Great atmosphere
My friends brought me here for lunch. The shop is situated in North West of Melbourne, quite a hidden venue with not much traffic. The lunch menu has a few options, however, the pricing is very reasonable. We had bibimbap, the noodle soup, and beef bulgogi. I personally liked the bibimbap and the beef bulgogi, but not the noodle soup dish. Overall, it was good dining experience
The galbi jjim is definitely on the sweet side, I like sweets and I was surprised at how sweet it was. Despite that, or maybe because of that, the galbi was my favourite dish. The taste of the bossam by itself is good but very mild, it is served with dipping sauces but I think I prefer it by itself.
The banchan were delicious. No complaints about the portions, in fact, portions are very good for 4 people, other restaurants disappoint in this area.
I would NOT order again: jju ggumi bokgeum (very forgettable), golbaengi muchim (nothing to write home about).
The sea snail salad comes in a big portion, our group of 4 had no idea it would be that big, but it was also everyone's LEAST favourite.
The decor is sleek but also cute, looks very clean. Overall, an enjoyable experience, would have loved if the prices were lower.
If you want amazing, memorable melt-in-your-mouth Pork Belly you HAVE TO GO TO HANSANG!
Ordered:
🐷 Braised Pork Belly (small): $20
🍲 Kimchi Jjigae (hot): $15
🐮 Beef Bulgogi (lunch special): Savoury prime beef thinly sliced & marinated in sesame oil, garlic, ginger & soysuce for 4 hrs to enhance the flavours ($10.50)
Review:
The best pork belly I've legitimately had in my life so far. I never knew Pork Belly could hold such flavour, such grace, such memorable traits that I'm having BIG regret for only ordering the small. Have faith and go large!
Sides were also amazing... having the classics such as bean sprouts, potatoes and tofu eased my heart as they were all great.
Service was relatively friendly - no complaints. The reason Hansang doesn't get a 5 is because the beef bulgogi was a touch dry. I've rarely ever had beef bulgogi that I've enjoyed, but Hansang's beef bulgogi made me feel like I couldn't take another bite.
Avoid this dish!
Although the beef bulgogi left a wooley taste in my mouth, the pork belly was so amazing that I'm willing to go back and just feast on this amazing dish. I'll be looking forward to giving their other dishes a try too!
This restaurant is recommended by my Korean friend, so I am sure the flavor is native Korean style.
What’s more it is free refill, so cost performance is good as well.
Also staff are very nice and friendly.
Definitely I love this restaurant so much!
I was pleasantly surprised by the number of side dishes (banchan) which was fresh, flavoursome and complimented the mains well. We had Bossam (pork belly), spicy crab soup and beef ribs. The pork belly dish was delicious, every slice was melt in your mouth goodness literally. The beef ribs was well marinated with a sweet soy sauce. The spicy crab soup was spicy and filled with fresh crab meat which made it a little challenging to eat without tools to break up the crab. I enjoyed the food at this restaurant thoroughly but do be careful when having the crab soup as there were fish bones within mine on the night.

This humble little place is such a hidden gem, great service with the most authentic homely Korean taste 👩🏻🍳🥄
.
The wooden interior gives this space a warm and homey vibe, clean and comfortable. Three of us ordered 2 dishes dinner set menu ($60) which includes rice and choice of either Doenjang Jjigae or Kimchi Jjigae 🥘.
.
The restaurant name says it all, HANSANG means “a table full of food in Korean”. They truly gave the most generous side dishes we have ever been presented in a Korean restaurant, 10 side dishes in total!! And it all tasted good!!! My fav was the kimchi, omelette and tofu. Too many fascinating and tempting choices on the menu, we decided to get the BO SSAM (braised pork belly🐖), this is total melt in your mouth goodness, thinly sliced & not overly fat. The serving size might seem small but it was good enough for us.
.
The highlight of the night was definitely the KKOT-GEA TANG 🌟which is a Spicy Crab and veg soup 🦀 AGAIN, I was surprised at the big portion. The crab is big, a lot of meat inside and it tasted fresh!! 😋👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 For a min I thought I was eating in a seafood restaurant. The soup was a bit too authentically spicy for us but overall still really nice. We ended our meal with free ice cream 👅🍦
.
It has got everything you look for in a Korean restaurant, the authenticity, generous servings, great value for money and delicious food. Also, it’s 5% discount if u pay cash 💵. Can’t recommend this place highly!
This place makes me feel like I'm in Korea all over again! It's cozy, warm and very inviting. Now let's start off with the side dishes. On average, majority of the restaurants in melb give you about 3-4 side dishes. But here at Hansang, you get at least 7! YES! SEVEN! I believe they rotate a few of the side dishes each week, so you're always up for a surprise. Main dishes are exceptional. They're very generous with the servings and not oily which is a plus. The beef bulgogi has got to be the BEST bulgogi I have ever had (in melb) hands down. Spicy soups are super spicy so be warned. They've got specials on drinks too which is awesome. Can't fault anything. Highly recommend this place!
Did a take away for the pork belly for dinner. First of all everything is so well pack and no spillage. Secondly we are pleasantly surprised with the amount of sides we got. Not only the quantity but the quality. Very well seasoned and go so with the main.
The pork belly is moist and melt in the mouth. Roll it in Chinese cabbage/wombok provided with the chillies and fermented sauce.... it is unbelievably delicious. The multi texture and flavour. Can’t wait to eat that again.
Clean and neat are the first impressions which I get from this place! Got the lunch specials of bibimbap and bulgogi and they were really tasty. Price is reasonable too, just around $10.
I’ve been to hansang hundred times, and I will still go back! The place is so cozy, clean and tidy. The service was very good too! They serve a very good and homy Korean food. Food is very hearty and delicious. They also give 5 or more side dishes - if you choose the side dish option and more at night time! If you order their set menu at night, they also give you free dessert. I love their side dishes, especially their omelette, eggplant and potato. The food presentation is great too, I love their side dishes plate, and their water glass, very classy! It’s a good place to take your date, or to bring someone important to eat out. I will definitely come back, again and again. Would recommend the Galbi Jjim and Seolongtang(the first item on the menu)!
This place personally ranks as one of the best lunch places to visit!
The prices are really value for money, since the food quality and flavours aren’t compromised.
You would have a tough time getting up from your seat after you’re done with your meal!
Be sure to try the beef bulgogi or spicy pork bulgogi if you visit!
My order is the kimchi jigae, spicy, tasty and quite large portions for 1 person. And the second one is seafood pancake, crunchy, tasty, little bit greasy but all good ! Great place to have lunch and dinner !
I like this place! They have lots of side dishes to eat and all of them taste so good. Main foods are good as well. Calm atmosphere, kind servuce, tidy and clean. My friend liked it as well. Definitely I will come again.
For lunch, it is unbeatable. Yummy food for a very reasonable price. Portion is good too. Nothing to fault... Except for Korean chopsticks. Can't get use to it...
Great authentic korean food and nice atmosphere. Absolutely loved the Korean soft rice cake (soy) dish. We will definitely be back to try all the other dishes on the menu!
Second time visit:(
Ordered the spicy crab soup...no I don't recommend this soup to anyone. The crab texture is soft (not fresh), the soup only got some zucchini with 6 pieces of crab. nothing else. It was really spicy. I mean I can take extra spicy when I go to hot pot place, and this soup is similar to that. It was okay for me but my friend cant have it and the waitress didn't even ask or mention about it when we ordered... I think I have had better spicy crab soup/spicy seafood soup in Melbourne. But will still come back for the rest of the menu.
decent traditional korean meal. Restaurant is not too big and waitresses are very nice. Side dishes are very delicious and generous. However then they served the main dish it feels a bit "warm" but not "hot" in my preference. I understand some of them must be pre-made and pre-prepared as it takes long time to steam or boil. Anyway it was really pleasant dinner and the price was reasonable. Did I mention soju here only 8.5? Cheapest you could find in Melbourne! Would like to come back and try more next time.
I order bossam the bigger one but the server reccommended that just order the smaller one since I am the only one eating it and she’s right! There are like 12 side dishes so you will get full if you like all of this. The bossam it self is delicious very tasty it has like a smokey flavor and savory taste on it. The texture is like you are eating boiled egg. Samgyang sauce is good also and all the side dishes. For the price its a little bit too expensive for me 30$ for bossam with soup and all the side dishes but considering everything plus rice winenfor 15$ the best partner for that meal . I think its good since I enjoyed it!
Tip! Just go with your partner or friends! Dont go alone.
I really like this place. It’s simple and unapologetically Korean. The menu has a basic variety of items, nothing to confusing the and the ‘lunch box’ set which comes with rice, a simple seafood soup and 4 side dishes is super value for money. My go to is the bibimbap, always tasty and super substantial.
On many occasions one of the friendly older ladies in the kitchen has come out to show us how to assemble our bibimbap or mix our food properly. Great place!
The staff is very friendly and the lunch menu is competitive price. It’s a big surprise for side dishes if you order for dinner. Listed in my weekly schedule.
What I really enjoyed and excited about this restaurant is when u ordered the set menu. They came with 10 side dishes. The other dish that I enjoyed most is their pork belly. The other dishes we ordered were the army stew and the fish were pretty average. Service was good. The size of the restaurant is not very big.

Amazing! My favourite Korean in town. I lived in Seoul for 15 months and never found anything in Melb close to authentic Korean. I keep going back for more. Lovely service, gorgeous atmosphere and attentive staff.
We order 3 main dish + 1 army soup for 6 people, however we didn't know that they gave us 1 free kimchi soup, so we end up got so much food.
Starter they gave like small portion of pork congee
Plus the side dish - they gave a lots, normal restaurant will gave u, kimchi, bean sprout, and some coleslaw
But here they gave us : more variety like jap chae, broccoli, and some more I even can't recall, but if I am not wrong they gave around more then 7 side dish
Most favourite is beef ribs, come to second the pork belly, melting in your mouth. Spicy pork bulbogi I will say wasn't that great but not bad.
Not like other Korean food restaurant that when u finish dinning you will end up smell smokey from the food. But this restaurant don't smell at all.
Will definitely go back to try more menu
This restaurant is just near by the corner where I live and one of my favourite. We love their lunch box menu which is huge and a lots of side dishes. 15$/pax with full stomach worths every cent. Definitely come back.
A little gem behind Flagstaff Gardens.
The lunch box set is an absolute steal with fantastic portions and quality. It comes with main dish + rice, 5 side dishes and soup. (Side dishes and soup refillable!!) They rotate the side dishes and soup menu so that its different everyday. Best part of it, Really traditional and tasty cooking!(prepared by Korean ahjummas).
Given that the price range is $13-15 for the lunchbox, highly recommended to come for lunch if you havent done so.
We had Galchi jorim, Bossam and kimchi soup. Three person shared 'option for couple $60' and added one bowl of rice. It was just enough for us as we had so much of side dishes along with main and soup. Gachi jorim was good. Bossam was less than i expected. Side dishes were great. Please consider I'm Korean who grew up in Korea. I think it is a quite decent quality Korean food you can find in Melbourne. Not too westernised and I'm quite impressed with their effort in side dishes. I would go back if i want to introduce Korean food to my foreign friends.
There are too many poor quality start-up Korean restaurants in Melbourne opening up ATM compared to Sydney; (e.g. Swanston St Melb Central side; King St CBD).
Too much emphasis on the 'BBQ'/'KFC' side of things; Chinese-style Kimchi with sweetness and sesame seeds (totally wrong); totally disinterested customer service levels; but most importantly 'skimping' on the real stand-out feature of Korean food - the 'banchan/hansik' side dishes (very good for health as well).
This place is trying to be the real deal, thanks to the 'ajumma' cooks out back; trust me as a Korean-Australian...esp. ''반찬' side of things. Give it a go. Including their focused (but good) lunch menu dishes (delicious Korean style fried rice with egg on top...)
A Korean friend introduced me to this authentic Korean restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by their food (beef bulgolgi and pork belly) and portions, especially the wide array of side dishes that we were provided with. I would definitely patronize this restaurant again!
Friendly service and it's a nice, bright and airy restaurant - but not if you're vegetarian!
I ordered the "Bibimbab" without the beef.
Came with rice and a kimchi dressing.
There was spinach, pickled raddish, bean sprouts and pickled cucumber in my bowl. Didn't taste too bad but it was missing something - the protein. Maybe they could serve it with a vegetarian option like Tofu or mock meat?
The "Black Seasame" ice cream was divine though! Will definitely be going back for it!
I have read some of the reviews on here and cannot believe I ate at the same place last night. As a korean, this is the type of food I crave, mums cooking done well and fresh. Bbq has become the popular korean food however it is the food that is served at Hansang that represents korean cuisine. THE BEST galbi jjim I have ever had (sorry mum). Super tender and not too sweet. Also had the pork chilli bulgogi which was also well balanced in flavour. With around 10 side dishes and a small jiggae, the 60 price tag is super value. Will be back for sure.
Had dinner with 3 boys on Friday evening. The food was very nice but I found that the menu might confuse some customers who aren't familiar with fixed menus (set menus) in Korea. More than 10 side dishes were served on our table. They were all cooked nicely and the main dishes were delicious too. I particularly liked the boiled down fish and steamed beef short ribs.
Lovely restaurant with great service. The food is superb with a great selection of mains, but the range of accompanying dishes are the highlight. Best kimchi I've had in Melbourne. Highly recommended.
Came here with a group of 20 to celebrate a friend's birthday. Service was flawless and accommodating. They let us roam free after all the other customers left. Majority of the dishes received thumbs up from everyone, especially the Bo Ssam (pork belly) and Dakbokkeumtang (chicken curry). We all did however found the taste of some dishes quite intriguing - the chicken curry tasted like Malaysian Curry Chicken and a fish dish that tasted like Sambal fish. "Is this place a Malaysian-Korean fusion restaurant or did they specially catered to our palate" was the running joke the whole night since our party was 99% Malaysian. Traditional Korean dishes such as the pork bulgogi and Galbi Jjim (beef ribs) were pretty tasty but nothing to make them stand out from the other Korean restaurants out there. A huge selection of side dishes, too many to name - some great, some average and some left untouched. A decent selection of soju that will please the ladies - fruit-flavoured and in my personal opinion, very sweet and light on the palate.
Surprisingly all the side dishes and foods are super good with reasonable price. Restaurant atmosphere also great, friendly staffs. Recommend!!
I have visited this restaurant more than three times.
The quality of dishes and taste are so amazing all the time.
I have never been disappointed about my dishes.
So I truly recommend it to everyone.
I personally recommend the galbi jjim and Galchi jolim.
These are the best of the best food I have ever eaten.
All the dishes are perfectly healthy like mum's food.
Another good thing is that we can have 1 main dish and 1 stew with 10 different side dishes by only 30 dollar. The price is very reasonable and really tasty.
Honestly Best Korean Food in Melbourne.
Love the authenticity and has such a cosy vibe!
The food is amazing & there are so many delicious side dishes, you don't know which one to eat first.
My new favourite Restaurant!!
What a great addition to inner-city Melbourne's culinary scene.
Four of us went to dinner, ordering a round of the house red -- a fine Yarra Valley pinot noir - and a dinner set menu (the "family" option of 4 mains with rice and a choice of a soup). Every main dish, and the multiple side dishes including generous serves of pickled vegetables and housemade sauces, delighted the palate.
The decor is minimalist in design and attractive; the wait staff attentive and helpful; and the kitchen efficient and consistent in providing a range of delectable tastes.
It was a memorable night for all of us, and we'd highly recommend Hansang.
I was really happy with this amazing foods :) so delicious and healthy Korean traditional. My favourite are Bossam and Galchi jorim! Nice many side dishes too.
Nice environment, friendly service and tasty food. There were several side dishes came with (big) main dish. That was quite pleasure to had nice dinner by self :D
I am highly recommendation if you would like to try new things with friends here!
I must suggest this resturant. Its the best of Korean resturant. There are over 10side dishes with kindly staffs. So yummy. You guys should try it. Will be happy with that resturant.
Very friendly staff here, had a great time here with my friends. The food here are amazing. Different style and the best Korean food in Melbourne.
This place shows what is real korean style meal. Many side dishes with good main dish. I've been for many times and never been dissapointed. You should try if you want korean food. Especially lunch is good value.
One of the best Authentic style korean restaurants with a family run vibe. So many nice things on the menu, lots of little plates with different things to try, a really fun way to eat. Staff are friendly and the place was really clean. Recommend giving this place a go!
Authentic Korean food, bit different than what most expect Korean dishes to be (the usual bibimbub in a clay pot). The dishes comes in small sharing portions and you could ask for refill of some of the condiments.
Highly recommend to order a bowl of rice for everyone at the table since some of the dishes comes with gravy.
Order a couple Sake bottles to share.
The price range is decent for the amount of quality of the food.
Lovely place and delicious, heart warming food. Lightly seasoned and freshly cooked side dishes, we especially loved Mackerel dish. Tastes just like what you would have in Korean home.
The best meal I've had in a long time. Definitely recommend the two-person banquet for $70 (total). Includes two main dishes (they are huge), rice, soup, ten delicious side dishes, and dessert. It's enough for four. So full! 😹
Amazing traditional Korean side dishes. Good if your hungry and like varieties. The set comes with 2 mains, rice, soup an array of side dishes and then some ice cream to finish.
Definitely an experience if you’ve never tried before
Loads of side dishes (unlimited refills) and the main dishes were especially tasty!
Standout dishes were the beef short rib, spicy octopus and the grilled mackerel. Kim chi was also a highlight - it was perfectly seasoned, you can tell it was made in house.
Only two downsides to the visit were that:
- Food took a while to be served but that was due to a big group's orders being prepared ahead of ours
- We were seated under the air conditioner so it was a little cooler than I'd have liked and also contributed to our food going cold faster than other tables
All that being said, glad to have found this hidden gem in the city!
I absolutely love Hansang! They are sooo generous when it comes to their banchan (side dishes). They usually give out 7 banchans! More than a lot of restaurants. I could come here and order a bowl of rice, eat all the banchan with it and be content. For their mains, they have a smaller menu but everything is ridiculously good! I can't fault anything and always recommend Hansang to people who want authentic Korean food. Highly recommend this place!
Nice place, friendly and helpful staff.
This place is good. Their banchan has a huge spread… and quite tasty. The pork belly is pretty good. Also ordered the kimchi biji stew which was slightly different from what I’m used to as they’ve really puréed it here. Nonetheless, still decent. Worth dropping by and checking out.
