We ordered 4 dishes. Teriyaki chicken Ramen’s ramen which is instant noodle not ramen... the chicken tasted good! The fried rice only have few unagi, the tamago is delicious but the sauce is a little bit salty. Very friendly staff and nice kitchenware!
If you haven’t had okonomiyaki, then you are missing out. Basically it’s a Japanese savoury pancake filled with veges (mainly cabbage). I got the bbq beef with cheese okonomiyaki. It was very filling. I enjoyed my lunch and for the price it represented good value. Lots of options for your okonomiyaki. Great for the students and workers in Carlton.
Unagi don here is amazing! So worth it with zomato gold!! Only paid 8 dollars for my unagi don and the portion size was decent too.

Recently visited this restaurant after a long time, it was good to see that taste was still consistent and delicious after all these years. I used regularly visit this place back in my uni days, and it’s still one the best places to visit for okonomiyaki. Planning to revisit soon!
Was here today, greeted by friendly staff and ordered the foods at the counter as it's more like Japanese street foods/takeaway style restaurant. Had Wagyu Don and Takoyaki balls washed them with a glass of Mocktail (Mojito). Very tasty beef with garlic sauce and Takoyaki balls texture was solid topped with okonomiyaki sauce and mayo. Mojito was refreshing - not too sweet and it was a perfect choice of drink especially with today's warm weather. Will definitely come back with friends to Oko Oko! Great work!

The food was so good. I love the udons. The beef don was great as well. The egg on top of the beef was such a great idea. I have been there for quite a few times and everything I have ordered was perfect so far.
We went to oko to crab a lunch. Food was very fulfilling. We ordered kimchi gyu and unagi don. Kimchi gyu was a bit salty. You don't need to wait to long to get your food. Nice stuff and quite atmosphere

Nice food here, and it serves really quickly. The portion is big enough and it tastes really yum. It is near the uni, guess it is a good option for students for go for either lunch or dinner.

The sauce tastes sour and to me it’s a bit weird. But it offers a range of pancake which looks good. May comeback to try more. Tbh i would rate it 3.5 star
Ordered via uber eats and food arrived still warm and crispy. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't much curry sauce and also no pickled ginger (I asked for extra, so perhaps they don't add it at all?). Overall, a nice lunch and saved me the trip and queueing! $12.90 for the food + $5 delivery = $17.90.
The staff is friendly and the Don tastes great! Love the place and it has places for person by oneself. Really delicious and really have a great time there. Worth trying! You will not get regret!

Chicken curry was bit sweet to me and my boyfriend but the staff gave spicy powder So really enjoy the meal also wagyu don I miss this dish a lot it wasn’t expacting presentation but still pretty nice and okonomiyaki is awesome it should be better with little bit Katsuobushi on it

Had Chicken Katsu Curry and Unagi Okonomiyaki delivered to my doorstep. The chicken katsu was still crispy when it was delivered, and the curry was pleasant; a common taste you'll get from a normal Japanese curry. The Unagi Okonomiyaki though, lacked batter. A lot more batter. The okonomiyaki can barely hold its shape and it just 'shatters' when I tried to tear a small piece with my chopsticks. Seasoning was well done, the unagi was nicely grilled, but the okonomiyaki...
Conclusion: Taste was great, but needs more batter.
Ordered the pork gyoza, unagi Don, sake Don, chicken katsu and ebi tempura 🍤 service was super friendly which made it better, the food was delicious and quick to serve too 😊

If you are after some Japanese Street food in the form of Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake), Oko Oko offers a decent variety to sate that appetite. They also serve a whole variety of other accompaniments that completes the experience. We tried the butabara (grilled belly pork on a stick) which was delicious (although fatty), the takoyaki (squid balls) were piping hot, textural and tasty, and the unagi okonomiyaki (eel Oko) was sticky, sweet and satisfying. The wagyu don was ok, but I rather pay a little more to get something special (as expected when you order a wagyu cut of beef). We also ordered the regular set which gave us a miso soup, salad and kimchi to round out the meal. Service was fine, but prices are on the upper range of the casual price range. All in all, a good little cafe for your fix of Japanese street food fare.
Very nice Japanese pancakes. Loo be to share it with some rice and soup. Slightly expensive but not bad place stop for lunch break during work and have something different
What a great Japanese place to go after uni if you are studying at Melbourne Uni!? Meal prices are definitely budgeted towards University student.
Although they don’t really attract that many customers, and their service is so so, it’s a great place to go if you don’t really want a massive meal, just something quick and convenient. The dishes are still pretty filling though, but I guess it’s a better excuse to get dessert after! 😉 I really enjoy the octopus balls here and all the Asian dishes taste really home-y. You have to pay at the counter before you order your meal and there isn’t a card surcharge, which is a bonus!
I like okonimiyaki and rice dishes from here. Tastes good and there's variety to choose. I was happy to eat different flavour of okonimiyaki and rice dish especially eel and sermon.
Found this place because I was craving okinomiyaki after a trip from Japan. Definitely wasn't to the same level but does make for a good place to try, especially with the other options out there.
I ordered the A9 salmon okonomiyaki from ubereats, generous 3 pieces salmon and it taste really nice, for the okonomiyaki itself in my opinion there's too much cabbage inside, would like it to have more batter instead of the veggies
Came here with two big family. Had a great dinner with good service and awesome foods. In my opinion, Oko Oko has the best okonomiyaki in Melbourne. It is not authentic Hiroshima or Osaka okonomiyaki but its Australian styled okonomiyaki as they have okonomiyaki with variety toppings such as fresh grilled salmon, unagi (eel), chicken karaage, kimchi beef, etc. Kids love their teriyaki chicken okonomiyaki which was juicy and tender. Adults had wagyu beef don which is not high grade marbled but its really taste like one and won't complaint with only $15 for a dish. Some had kimchi gyu and chicken karaage pancakes which was great mixed flavours for okonomiyaki. Can't wait to coming back here to try out other dishes. Keep up the good work Oko Oko!
Decent Chicken Katsu Don, but it is to dry and bland. Need more sauce to lift the flavor.
But the place is very nice. The waiter can speak Malaysian and Indonesian. He is really polite whether you order big meal or just one dish.

This place was so cute, love the way they display their dishes. The oko tamago tasted so silky, love it sooo much The yaki tori is a good choice to try as well.
Food tastes good and very good service, definitely will come back next time. We ordered unagi don, tori katsu don, takoyaki, and okonomiyaki and the food never disappoints. Highly recommended!
With a new owner overseeing every tiny detail, as well as a hotel-class head chef at the helm, Oko Oko has definitely turned a new leaf and made the humble, daily Japanese dining experience tasty yet incredibly affordable.
Their healthy, creative take on the traditional Okonomiyaki is definitely a welcome change, and it was definitely more enjoyable, if not even tastier, than it’s original counterpart!
Ordered the pancake and the chicken karaage with my friend and we have to say they both are yummy! The pancake has a really nice flavour and crunchiness to it due to the amount of vegetables in it. The chicken karaage was crispy and doesn't taste oily. The staffs are also really nice! (P.S. Use your PPIA card and get 10% discount!)

Okonomiyaki was ok, the vegetables could have done with a bit more cooking for crispness. Takoyaki balls were yum. For what it was, I think it was reasonably priced.
It's cheap - around $11 for an okonomyaki, which is a solid size and fills you up. I get the tofu one which I love, it's a great feed, might not be the most authentic Japanese food but is delicious and excellent value for money. The staff are all very friendly and lovely.
Great pancake but it could not be low calorie as propagated ~so much mayo on top! LOL ~rice was ok because The quality of salmon was just soso. Suitable for casual lunch on weekdays
Impressed with this place. We got Uber eats and it arrived speedily and was very well presented for a home delivered meal. We got the traditional okonomiyaki as well as the chicken teriyaki okonomiyaki. They were both fresh, light and flavoursome. The chicken katsu curry and takoyaki were also delicious.

Really enjoyed the okonomiyaki! The sauces were perfect, and there was a good balance between batter and vegetables in the pancake itself!
The other dishes were quite standard. The main meals were delicious but small in terms of portions, compared to other Japanese restaurants in Melbourne.

Nice restaurant to have either lunch or dinner on your own or with a friend :) I personally like their dishes, my meal is often served within ten minutes and has always left me full and satisfied. Good for their value, nice atmosphere, although staff is occasionally a bit rude.
Solid little watery catering to uni students and office grunts alike. I had a pork katsu curry on rice with an egg. Cant recall being offered that elsewhere but extra protein is extra protein. Was efficient, clean no fuss and most importantly delicious lunch. At $12 it's on the upper end up my average work day lunch but I'd go back for sure....maybe even now.
Tried their chicken curry and fish don, both pretty good. It's not overly flavoured so quite healthy, nice place to come for a quick feed.
I really enjoyed their wonderful takoyaki, crispy exterior and soft gooey interior with chewy octopus. Okonomiyaki was good too but could be a little more crispy and slightly less doughy. However, that could be personally preference! Service staff was friendly as well:)

Had food delivered from Oko Oko last night through Foodora. Due to major outages across the East of Australia with Amazon (the servers hosting the Menulog website), Foodora had an extremely high volume of orders so the delivery driver took quite some time to arrive at the restaurant to pickup the food. Oko Oko wanting to ensure that we still had fresh, hot food actually remade the food again just before the delivery driver arrived so that when it got to us it would be hot and fresh, we could not have been happier with this! The food itself was very good, definitely very reminiscent of Okonomiyaki in Osaka but with a great western twist. I am looking forward to trying the food fresh in store and would definitely order from Oko Oko again.
I don't remember how many times it is that I have been to Oko Oko,pancake is a little bit too salty and sweet for me. Green tea Latte is a must try.
Very cheap Japanese food that serves something different to your regular Asian food. Cheese pancake for eight dollars isn't huge but is filling.
Delicious and great price. Their dinner menu is quite different to their lunch menu, aiming for a more up market experience but both are delicious!

Love the dining environment here. Huge windows, reasonably large space, quick and friendly service. You never feel the pressure to go quickly after you finish.
As a Melb uni student (a recently graduated one), sitting at my favorite table and serving myself with a different color of water bottle while waiting for my pancake/rice to come has been a memorable part of my student life.
It's surprising that a lot of my Uni friends hadn't been to this place before I took them. Actually it even took me half a year or so to realize there was a restaurant there, and probably another half before I went there for the first time (maybe because they don't look like a restaurant from the outside?...) But since then, I've brought numerous friends there and many of them have recommended it to their friends.
My old time favorite was beef & egg rice (can't remember the name, it's on the special menu), then shifted to pancakes (fried chicken and beef patty are my favorite), then I realized they did good snacks as well, and then I even went to try their flavored coffee.
I eventually became really familiar with one of the waitresses (and that's probably the reason I'm writing this now? Haha!), but it's good to give my first Zomato review to a place that's special to me.
Cute decor with good-for-value food targeted at students. You can have a very filling meal for less than $20 pp. You have to try their signature Japanese pancake (okonomiyaki) and one of the teppanyaki dishes. One of each will certainly make you very, very full and happy, or alternatively you can share a few different entrees such as fried chicken and takoyaki balls with your friend/s. Been here several times already and friends have all said quite good things after bringing them and also coming here on my recommendation.

It's more than just oko, it's great!. Savoury pancakes Japanese style??? We stumbled on this place and fed 2 adults and 2 kids for under $30... that's mcdonalds money...but instead we got sensational burgers and stunning chips that were not just healthier, but tastier. The burger 'buns' were actually potato, cabbage, flour (and some other vege's) with flour fried on a teppanyaki grill that housed the beef (for me) and the beautiful chicken (for my wife). We were able to load vegetables into the kids 'by stealth' and we all loved it. All I can say is franchise now and get close to where I live because I'd much rather feed the family there than at a deep frying Scottish restaurant... Anyone in carlton, check out this funky place and their considerable menu... you won't be disappointed!

We had fantastic meal here in Oko Oko. Best fusion style okonomiyaki in Melbourne. Okonomiyaki base is full of veggies and the staff told us that the okonomiyaki sauce was homemade by the chef. If you don't like veggie, you should try this dish as its very tasty and doesn't taste much like veggie. My friends had Unagi and Teriyaki Chicken rice bowls and they both love it! A must to visit if you are okonomiyaki lover!

I got the unagi okonomiyaki & a yuzu honey tea. The shop was quite busy once it opened during lunchtime. The prices were abit high for the small sized okonomiyaki...quite tasty though.
