Biryani is decent much better than what you get at some restaurants.
Had tried both chicken and lamb biryani on 2 different occasions. Tasted good. Chicken piece was well cooked and so is the lamb. If you are looking for more of a Hyderabadi dum biryani, then you can give it a try. The Mirchi ka salan was not served with the biryani and had to request it but it was bland and a big let down.
This place has been consistently good for the last 8 years I have been going there. Great curries, chicken 65, garlic naan bread, Biryani, I never get tired of them.
Looking for a good biryani in Melbourne? Biryani house is the place to be. Ambience...zero. Service...rushed. Quality...heavenly. My wife had the biryani and it was authentic and cooked to perfection. The rice was long and pure. I had naan with chicken and it was faultless. There's a reason this establishment is crowded and busy! Quality is great, service is poor! You decide...
The most incredible food ever, been coming here for years! Everything is cooked perfectly every time. Best garlic naan I’ve ever eaten. Truly delicious.
Guys this is a place to go, when you are not feeling to cook the places to go in my list would definitely be this. Great on the buds and pocket friendly as well. Even from people around the world have a taste of what India eats at times and why they relish their food. This is a good try for the people who lack the knowledge about biryani.
Though nothing really fancy about the decor but still not a bad try.
My favorite indian restaurant. I ussually go for lunch with their menu in bain~marie. Meat n veggie curry with rice, and it only cost u $8.5. Their portion especially the rice is super generous, it always keep me full the whole day and even nite.
Behold Desi Citizens of the Great Aussie Land... and also the other Homo Sapiens, in search of the Authentic Rice Dish of the Mughals and Nawabs (and others)...... If you like Biryani, this is where you've gotta be...
I have been disappointed by the dim witted, half Indian cuisines that other Indian budget places have offered so far at Melbourne, and I must say.... This place is as Authentic as Authentic can be (Add in the crammed space and little respect to hygiene).... Once you enter, it smells and feels like the rustic old Hyderabad :)
Trust me, if this place was any bigger and cleaner..... They are a serious contenders for a 5 Star rating!
Back to the food ..... One word for their Biryanis.... Amazing!
Price, quantity, quality and aroma.... All are perfect.... I am sure that I can be hanged by the tight necked elite of the Biryani world.... But if you have ever Eaten a Biryani at Hyderabad's famous small shops (Mostly from the small nooks and lanes of the Old City).... You will agree with me, that this place is as close as it gets to the real deal
For me, the real game changer has been their 'TANDOORI CHICKEN (TC)', and unlike the most other places at Melbourne.... Their tandoori chicken comes from a Tandoor! The great Indian Clay Oven... At least, it has been cooked on Charcoals, My nose bears witness to the aroma that still seems to be lingering at the back of my head,,..... You can surely savor far better TC in India.... But remember, this ain't no India.... and this is a good job done by them, for being miles away from home.....
You may wonder at my sheer love for this place, and yet a rating that seems far from my words.... Well, the problem really was the fact, that this place is not fit for a Sunday noon Lunch... I mean, just ask them to parcel it and go home and Enjoy the treats.... But the restaurant itself is very tiny and in urgent need of hygienic overhaul of the places of the calls from Nature...
FINAL VERDICT..... Indians , Countrymen (plus women) and lovers of the great Indian food..... Please visit this place, and 'Take Away' your favorite meal.....
Cheers!
There's an old adage that says "eat where the locals eat". Well in Melbourne if an Indian restaurant is often frequented by Indians it must be pretty good. And BH is simply that - good. Very good in fact. Having lived in India (Hyderabad, coincidentally) and nowadays frequently travel to various parts of India for work, the dum biryani and lamb kurma here is as authentic as it gets. Yes the place is semi-dirty and claustrophobic, but my goodness I don't think you can better better value for Indian food anywhere else. So stop by, hang out with the Indian migrants in this great city and enjoy.
The place where you can crash anytime, the Biryani and other main course are good in taste. My favourite dalcha was very nicely prepared, the main course in lamb are really tasty.
Their biriyani is to die for!!! So nice flavour but tiny bit spicy. Chicken was juicy & flavourful. Staff very kind & friendly. Price is cheap. Clean simple interior. Small menu but that's what nice about the joint that they does it well. I remember I tried Authentic biriyani when I was overseas & this place resembles that! Overall rating 3.8*
- Atmosphere 2/5
- Service/Staff: 2/5
- Food: 4/5
• Value for money: 4/5
• Revisit? YES!
• Must order: The lamb biryani! Or chicken as a 2nd option.
My review is mostly based on the Biryani at this place! I mean come on, it is Biryani house... and thats what they're REALLY specialised at. However, they don't deliver in many other dishes. So beware! My suggestion is to go for the Biryani here! Even though the service is poor, that won't stop me from coming for the delicious Biryani's!
Order their chicken tikka masala and saffron rice. Portion for the rice was huge! Chicken tikka masala's spice level is spot on. It may be best to do a take away instead of dining in.
The best briyani I've had in Melbourne. Authentic Hyderabad taste. I tried the dessert as well. It's pretty good. Service is acceptable. The place was packed.
Sharing just tandoori chicken(full) and rice are already enough for my tiny friend and I. This is my second time in indian restaurant- not so bad.
Maybe come back again
Nice work guy
I really like this spot for its authentic tasting dishes and prompt service.
It's a cheap eats that's great for those nights when you don't want to be cooking dinner and are looking for fast and tasty.
I enjoy their haryali kebab, chicken biryani and hariyali chicken!
The place is a bit disorganized especially during peak hour but so far this is the only place in the area that cook a very good Biryani Chicken. It worth the wait eventough I have to wait for 30 minutes for the chicken Biryani. Portionwise is very large compare to other Indian places. This is on of the places in Melbourne which portion size is comparable to the one in the U.S. 2 curry ( 1 veggie & 1 meat) is definitely a steal at 8.00 price and 2 veggie curry at 7.5 is a wow considering how expensive it is to live in Melbourne
I am only rating the food and how quick the food is served- best Briyani ever and the cost is unmatchable-!! You get served very fast too.. If you are looking for a quick feed this is definitely a good stop. It has never failed us.. And we have been there about 10 times since mid 2014. If you are looking for ambience- don't even attempt to try this place.
This place makes their own spices out the back unlike most Indian food places you eat at. It’s packed full of Taxi drivers who know gold when they find it.. Flavors pack a punch here so you might get a sore tum later but worth it. lunch time Fav on Friday… 7.894/10 Boiled Potatoes Advice: Amazing food Northern Indian Style.. Try it if you like spice…
Not bad, but not worth a long trip. Working near Biryani House for some time, I frequented it for a few months. My experiences were very mixed.
Their Chicken Biryani is always high quality, and their curries rarely disappoint. Noteworthy however, that the butter chicken can range from a pile of bland meat, to a bowl of raw chilli disguised as curry. But most often, it's a good balance.
The customer service leaves a bit to be desired, and it's always worth double checking your order before you leave. If your order is as simple as "Chicken Biryani with Naan, take away", you'll get your meal, and be happy with it. Go more complex than that, and results may vary.
If you work nearby and are curious, go ahead and try. But if you're looking to go to the city for a nice meal out, don't go out of your way.
Best Biryani in Australia. I used to go to this place all the time when I was in melbourne. I live in Brisbane now and I miss there Biryani. I went to this great place called Splice by Naveed indian restaurant in Brisbane and the Biryani was just fantastic and that reminded me of the great biryani I used to eat at the biryani house in Melbourne. Hats off!!
Excellent Biriyani...reminds of Hyderabad..
Pretty good. I am not sure at which Biryani House some of the negative reviews below dined at, but I was really pleased with the food and the value for money. The shop is somewhat unassuming with a very simple, yet tidy, set up. However, the food certainly makes up for this. The butter chicken and variety of curries were all well done, sizable portions and excellent value for money. I think the fact that this place has a line waiting every night speaks volumes!
Best biryani. Haleem is good. Luqmi is good too. Customer service is average to poor. Chicken 65 is crap. Tawa ghost is nice. Curries are average, nehari is yuck! Naan is average and did i say biryani is the beat but only if u have had that kind of biryani before. Or else u will find it ordinary.
Decent food, so so service. Was a bit hesitant to give this place a try after reading a couple of the bad review. However I took the plunge today and order myself the notorious lamb biryani. First impression, the waiter could use a bit of smile therapy and yes true customer service is rare as hen's teeth here. The biryani however, was good. The serving is indeed huge and plenty of lamb on my order (perhaps the cook is in good mood) contrary to the previous review. Let down probly was they didn't offer me the curry sauce sides and give me the yoghurt by default. Anyway lesson learn, the place indeed offer decent biryani but do not expect 5 star customer service here.
The food here is fantastic. I love how the chicken or meat is always fresh and tender. Maybe they have a policy of always using fresh produce?
I live in Kilmore, but this is the only place I go to - I've been going here for two years. I come here every time I'm in Melbourne, but sometimes plan my trips around just having lunch here.
I admit that the decor is a little dated and at times it gets crowded, but to me that's a very minor price to pay for the best Indian I've ever had.
I travel a lot and during my travels I'm always comparing other Indian restaurants to Biryani House. Red Pepper in the CBD comes a close second. No others come close at all.
The staff at Biryani House are friendly and I've never had a problem with them. I think complaints about service are from pompous types who are used to waiters fawning all over them.
The staff are always very welcoming and friendly. I am unable to eat really chilly curries and they are always making the food fresh to specific orders. The naan bread is a winner and the butter chicken is melt in your mouth!!! I'd rate it as the best Indian restaurant in the CBD!
Such a nice experience. Order chicken baryani and I give 10 out of 10 for taste. Rice was cooked really well. Bryani spies were not out of order, they look really taste while you are eating.
Easy going staff, when we arrived it was full house still the way staff was doing its job was remarkable . Thanks for the food. Keep up the good work.
Ordered a goat biryani. Got it with complimentary chutney. Good amount of meat I should say. I was expecting like one or two pieces but it has like 5. Anyways, nicely cooked and tender meat, and delicious overall and only for 14 AUD.
My go to place for biryani.. I've been having their goat/lamb biryani since 2014 and my husband since 2007.. believe me it comes out with exactly same taste every single time. Me and my husband might have had their biryani 100s of times. Fantastic aroma and flavourful rice.. reminds me of Hyderabad. Now our kids love it too.!!
I don’t know what all the hate is about. Let me set the scene: my family and I had just hopped out of the cab and we realised it was nearly midnight. We looked around google for a restaurant and immediately found Biryani House. We ordered a butter chicken, masala and a few other dishes. They came out promptly and we loved it. They close late and the food is good for the price. You will expect to find it a little hard to find a table as taxi drivers are constantly taking breaks inside. Overall really good and a lovely experience.
