A nice little cafe, fresh and delicious food. Perfect poached eggs and amazing smashed avocado, that’s always a win for me. Quick and friendly service. I will definitely be going back soon.
Had a lovely big breakfast with saganaki, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, plenty of bacon etc here the other morning was fresh tasty food and a big serving, service was mediocre but no biggie and coffee wasn't too bad either!
Overall pretty good!! Would go back for sure the other meals on our table looked fab as well.
Always a nice ambience as you walk in. Customer service is very good, greeted and seated straight away. Food is fresh and plated nicely, but could be more generous with the amount.
Overall a good experience.
Good range of simply and delicious sounding breakfast drew us into Spinifex. And that's exactly what the meals were.
Ordered eggs Benny with bacon and the big veggie. Everything was fresh, serves were generous and the poached eggs were just right.
We will be back!
Fantastic brunch spot :-) - we'll be back even if it's on the other side of town. Pancakes fluffy and delicious. Avo Smash a hit. Big Brekky with saganaki a nice variation. Loose leaf tea in decent size pot.
Simple food done well. My friend and I decided to share the mixed berry pancakes and the smashed avo - both were really tasty! They brought two extra plates which was super helpful so we could keep our savoury and sweet seperate, coffee and service were both great. Delicious and laid back :)
I've probably cumulatively spent weeks of my life lining up for breakfast at whatever place is deemed cafe of the month. Spinifex is somewhere you can go when you just want good unpretentious food without waiting for a table. Being a regular racegoer I discovered it due to its proximity to the track. Order the Bircher. Fruity and tropical it's the very taste of summer with crunchy coconut flakes for extra texture. There's a cute courtyard outside too. Bonus
Sunday cold morning... wait staff seemed a bit inexperienced, but have to learn somewhere. Wait staff was pleasant.
Food was tasty and price was decent for price paid... had the big breakfast and the belliar burger..
One of my fave breakfast cafes. Try the smashed avo (better serving size than most) or the veggie breakfast.
Partner loves the Spanish broken eggs.
Great service and the coffees not bad either. Cute little area out the back too. Get in early - not a huge amount of seating.
An enjoyable Sunday brunch - the menu has all the usual suspects - pancakes & berries, eggs a dozen ways, however, the service was prompt and the food was good.
I only tried this place as the cafe i was intending to eat at was full. Boy that was lucky for me. Dont let the look.of the place turn you off, they cook some serious food. I ate the Spinifex stack, but substituted the salmon for bacon. What an awesome choice it was, all of the ingredients & flavours worked perfectly together
7/10. Pretty good, I think their avo smash is pretty delish. Its not my fav Kenso place but they are very accommodating with the kiddies, and because its not as popular, there's always a table :)
The slow cooked lamb pasta was so good it made me sad knowing it was going to finish. Every mouthful was a delight. The service is the best no pretentious prima donnas!
Flipping Best quality Food, Service and best value for money, my new Local.
Wonderful Experience!. I visited Spinifex with a friend for the first time the other day for lunch, first impression = absolutely wonderful! We were greeted by the friendly manager with a welcoming smile as we sat down and checked out their selection of food.
A nice range of dishes available with a slight twist (guess it explains the Spinifex part hehe) The food was cooked to perfection, presented beautifully on the plate.. Delicious :) definitely be coming back next time to try out their different variety of food.
Overall, the layout of the restaurant is very comfy and welcoming, spacious and not over cramped. The location was nice and accessible, parking was available right opposite Spinifex. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming, everyone enjoyed their food and conversation without feeling as if their being watched :)
Spinifex :) See you again, soon!
So delicious. The best food I've found in Kensington, with great service to go along
Brekky heaven. Service was good.
Good variety to choose from.
Sour dough bread was soft and unlike any other sourdough I've tried before.
The big veg brekky is worth every cent.
Rosti was tasty.
We plan to go back until we have tried the wholr menu
We just had breakfast, never been there before. Service excellent, food excellent and well priced. Nice change will be back.
Went there with my aunties. I cannot fault the food. I had the smashed avo, my mum had the duck salad and my aunt had poached eggs on toast. my sisters order was forgotten and the girl working was clearly having a bad day; slamming our plates down on the table and rolling her eyes. Would definitely go back when she isn't working!
Great local spot. I come here quite often. It's a great local.
The management has changed since I first started going here and the quality dropped for a little while, but it is definitely back up to standard!
Coffee is good, food is good, I often get the smashed avo, the calamari salad is also a winner. Staff are always friendly, even the chef chips in with clearing tables.
Great little courtyard out the back for a Sunday brunch.
Will continue to come here, never disappoints.
Morning brunch. Had brunch with my friends and partner. There was 5 of us and only 4 chairs t they quickly accommodated another chair for us.
The waitress took our orders fairly quickly - however the wait for our food was quite long about 30 mins, however the food wasnt bad at all, I had scrambled eggs with a side of bacon and potato rosti, couldn't fault it, only bummer was the wait time as we were all starving after a night out lol.
Fresh Spinifex on Bellair. I moved to Kensington about four months ago, I checked a few cafes out but was most impressed by Spinifex. Both owner and stuff are incredibly friendly, the food is great and coffee is exceptional. Thank you for making my days and weekends enjoyable.
Mikey
A pretty good menu, and prompt water and drinks but some slow service fir the meals, food tasted good, when I asked why it took so long they explained they had to prep some if the food as it had arrived fresh thus am....hmm, it's got good coffee and hot chocolate , not a big range of beers or wines though.
Delightful. Toby Estate is a well picked blend and Spinifex make their coffee to satisfaction.
The staff our absoulutely lovely and I can always leave with a smile.
Lovely vibe, great new menu and always feel welcomed.
Thought this place would be good for a quiet Tuesday breakfast. Service was lovely and friendly and although toast was rock hard and the rosti was unpleasant unpleasant the rest of my eggs, bacon and avo were tasty and perfectly cooked. nice coffee too. Would come back and steer clear of rosti and toast!
Warm and friendly. Just went in for a coffee or drink and the owner was so lovely. Very friendly and genuine.
Amazing. New Menu looks amazing. Tastes the same.
Nice new staff. Love the way it is heading.
Really nice lunch. Quick, obliging, well-priced...brilliant! Will be back.
What a wonderfully homely place, I enjoy the service as much as I adore the food. I just can't stop eating the calamari salad, so delicate. If your looking for somewhere that they really remember your name and make you feel at home, you should defiantly try this place. Yum yum yum
Really nice lunch. I went for lunch after a very trying weekend, I wanted to spoil myself a bit. I had a beautifully cooked calamari with salad. I don't order calamari in cafes often because it usually tough, but this was cooked perfectly, salad was so fresh and dressing was perfect. Good coffee as well. I certainly felt better when I left ...best lunch I've had on the Kensington strip....
Went on Fathers Day for breakfast. Had the Spanish Breakfast, Big Breakfast and Latte. Spanish Breakfast consisted of 2 perfectly fried egg laying on top of a crisp toasted buttered sourdough bread. On the side was mildly spicy fresh salsa and slices of large churizo sausages. It was yummo. The big breakfast was your standard big breakfast that you find in most cafes. Difference is the bacon was lean, with less fat that I find at other cafes (this is a good thing)
The latte was nice and creamy, not too much froth as other places are. After reading reviews about The Premisis coffee up the road I decided to compare the taste. Personally the coffee at Spinifex is way better (to my liking) if you like a strong coffee taste then The Premisis would be your thing (every one is different)
Service at Spninifex was superb. Friendly waitresses. Atmosphere is relaxed (perfect for Sunday). Food and drinks came out in an acceptable timely manner (for me any way) I did over hear complaints from another table that they were still waiting on there orders.
That being said the Food is worth waiting for. I don't know what others ordered, but it looked yum too (you know what I mean ?.... I'm sure we have all walked past a cafe and perved on what the diners were having to help us make a decision if we should dine there or not)
Local favourite. This is a regular haunt for me. It's good to see that the recent change of ownership hasn't lessened the quality of the product or the service.
A few new menu items have appeared. I absolutely love the Gourmet Breakfast! (go on, give it a try. You won't be disappointed). The coffee continues to be excellent.
I'm glad to have this place just around the corner.
No Spin. I've been here a few times and have had no issues. The food was acceptable and reasonable priced. The Hot Chocolate was fantastic. I asked for a very weak HChoc (and most places give you an ordinary one), this place listened and gave me what I asked for. A+ The pasta was piping hot and extraordinarly tasty. The service is standard. But, hey this is a cafe...not a restaurant. So Thumbs Up :)
First timer!. Im not the type to write articles on places ive been or experienced, so this is a first for me and this story needs to be told!!
Anzac day is a special day for us.. We get the family together and take grand dad out for lunch to celebrate and remember... lest we forget! Spinifex Cafe came to mind as we live in Nth.Melb and have heard good things from family and friends. The place was extremely busy but we booked ahead and they held a comunal tabble for 8. From the moment we sat down we felt very welcome and the waiting staff very friendly and chatty. Coffee was excelent made by a capped barista whom im guessing was the owner. The food was why we were here as we have been told its the best on the strip... and yes... it was amazing!!! From the steak sandwich to the calamari salad and several pastas ordered we were not dissapointed. Great flavours... fresh ingredients and portion size was more than adequate. Very happy with our meals, very happy with the service.
And to cap off a wonderful lunch with friends and family... the owner advised our table that grand dad (whom was wearing his medals) will not be paying for any of his meal or drinks... a small thanks from Spinifex.
Well done guys... Well done Spinifex!!!
Lest we forget! We will be back!
Awesome breakfast & coffee. I had the Spinifex stack the other day. It was to die for! Loved it.
They have a nice looking website as well. www.spinifexcafe.com.au
Friendly staff. A favourite.. Welcoming and inviting. The owner is friendly and chatty, and the rosti break is a favourite.
Sunday breakfast! Yes!. My first experience here as I drink my fab latte and enjoy my yummy breakfast all while the wait staff make me feel totally at home! My Asparagus breaky, a first for me and not seen at other cafes is absolutely delicious! Gorgeous flavors! My new Sunday breakfast home! :-)
Worth the wait!. I really do love this place and think they do an amazing breakfast/brunch! Coffee is mostly great but the food they dish out is seriously good! Not easy to get a table on the weekend but worth the wait as there are not many quality options on this strip. Their Baked Eggs are a stand out!!! Highly recomend this place.
Asparagus Bliss!. Possibly the BEST breakfast I have ever had!!! Trust me peoples... You need to have these guys make you their asparagus breakfast. Flavours to blow your mind!
Heavan on a plate!
:-)
Has the courtyard the Premises lacks - great on a sunny day. Have been a few times, each time really enjoyed the food. Love the muesli with vanilla yoghurt, kiwifruit, strawberry and passionfruit. Service not outstanding, but passable.
Tasty Stuff!. Friendly staff... great court yard and a menu that puts most other cafes to shame! Baked eggs with tomato and chickpea ragu topped with breadcrumb, parmasan and drizzled truffle oil! Heavan on a plate... need i say anymore!
Two thumbs up guys... Tasty stuff!
Brunch - Yum, yummmm!. Second outing to this cafe and once again quite impressed! Happy, friendly and chatty staff seat you and make you very welcome. I ordered the beans breakfast with chorizzo, feta and toasted sour dough and my mind was blown away! The meal had some amazing flavors and is clearly well put together and my taste buds were thrown into a frenzy! I even gave my complements to the chef...so if your reading this Spinifex chef... well done!! :-)
Classy Breakfast. I stumbled across this place on Sat when i was in Kensington. All I can say is that I have been searching for a place like this who take care and pride in what they put infront of you! Great coffee, excelent milk.
Great menu, not your standard fare that most cafes seem to be doing.
Rosti breakfast with additional bacon was cooked to perfection! Absolutely delicous breakfasst. Service was a little slow but very friendly. They were busy.
Food 9/10
Coffee 7/10
Service 7/10
Kensington's Best. I was first attracted to this great cafe when I saw they sold Toby's Estate coffee. Having moved from Sydney, Toby's was my favourite blend. Since moving to Kensington, I am now a regular for both coffee and breakfast. Loving the coffee, the Spinifex Stack (which is fantastic) and the service! Definitely the best Kensington has to offer
Rosti brekkie is great here, especially the rosti which is made from scratch (however making it from scratch took 25-30 mins to get our meals), only criticism is that the hollandaise could have done with a bit more acidity, coffee was great as well, definitely will be eating here again.
Great Kensigton cafe. Love the coffee and vibe here. Nice little back courtyard, long tables for groups, and great outside seating if you have a dog. Service can be a bit slow sometimes when they are full up, but friendly staff make up for it. Baked eggs are damn good, as are the basics (such as my fav, scrambled eggs on sourdough with avacado and bacon). Premises seems to be the hot-shiz at the moment, but this place is solid and easy to get into.
Really nice relaxing breakfast in beautiful kensington, very popular place. Everything was great, bar the service, waited about 16 minutes for a take away coffee. Still delicious though!
Amazing food, which makes up for slightly scattered service (if you can't remember an order off by heart, write it down!) Definitely a must-eat if you're looking for a classy, cheap brekki.
What a find!! Cracking cafe - great food/coffee/service - try the baked eggs
The best..... I have been a regular of this site for 7 years and under a variety of other guises. Spinifex arrived a couple of years ago and has certainly made the site the best cafe on the Bellair strip.
The service is always excellent and the food is continues to be faultless. Spinifex also serve excellent coffee and my partner's short mach always "hits the spot".
Spinifex rests amongst other cafes that serve "the same ol, same ol" fare with no imagination or changes. Spinifex's menu is incredibly tasty and imaginative. The chef and kitchen staff certainly need to be congratulated,
In addition to this, i am always made to feel welcomed by the floor staff and owner (who always welcomes regulars) who are always smiling and not too intrusive.
I will continue to visit Spinifex and support such a brilliant establishment. By the way, their current Calamari Salad is divine!!
Relaxing, prompt and tasty!. Had a catch-up with a mate for lunch but couldnt help ordering the breakfast meals as ive heard so much about and "IT" was true to its words. Tasty, well presented and a very generous servings with a lovely mix. The staff (2 that i only saw) was quick (we sat outside) to bring us our glass and water as we sat down, also spent a few minutes explaining there's a further description of the lunch menu inside. Meals came as quick as good as the service. highly recommend it for brunch. Will try the lunch menu next time. FYI- My mate ordered a veg breakfast and it looked delicious!
What a treat!. I chose to catch up with friends at Spinifex again. We started off with breakfast but sort ventured into lunch as well!
Food was delicious, coffee was sensational (and I'm fussy with my coffee) and service was really friendly and inviting.
I was happy to see a few of my favorites on the menu as well some new exciting dishes. I highly recommend Spinifex to eat or even just for the great coffee!!!!!
Perfect start to Sunday. Caught up with friends for breakfast at Spinifex and with a perfect coffee and then a delicious and value for money Vege breakfast, I left feeling that my day had started perfectly! Can't wait to go back again and can highly recommend it!!
Spin me round. I have to admit that I've only had breakfast here twice. And both times I've ordered the same thing: the Goats Cheese and Mushroon Omlette. The other items on the menu seem impressive, but I can't get past this omlette. It is divine. So the next time you're there, just have it. That's all.
Ordered waffle benny and BLAT, two cup of coffee.
Foods not only taste good, but also looked beautiful!
Excellent cafe!
food was amazing. I went for a lunch today in the premises and I have tried new menu with great options in affordable prices and I must say it was delicious specially middle eastern breakfast.i am very happy with the food but not the service. staff was quite, not welcoming and didn't came to the table after waiting for 15 min and I had to go inside for menus and drinks, but they were talking to each other. I could give 3 star rating for that but for the food only I have given 5 star. if they do amazing service I would love to come back often.
Absolutely delicious food, quick service, and great coffee. 👌
One of the best cafes in Melbourne. Their coffee was just fantastic. loved their southern fried chicken burger and would recommend everyone to try it once. The serving size is quite generous so make sure you starve yourself before going here.
Service is quite good too and the staff are very polite and friendly.
