Cheap and cheerful, the friendly owner was too happy to stop for a chat. Colleagues introduced me to this place as part of the Friday lunch ritual. From the small menu, most of us chose the butter chicken with rice and roti. The meals arrived shortly after we placed the order.
Generous pieces of chicken in deliciously creamy curry soon kept us occupied. I looked around and every dish was empty. Lots of praise by the colleagues who enjoyed their meals. For $12 this was extremely good value in a sit down restaurant.
The decor hasn't been updated for ... and the menus are worn, but we came here for neither. As we excited, the owner cheekily says "see you next week." I can understand how my colleagues have become regulars here.
My most favourite of Indian restaurants in Melbourne! I just love their food. Their Butter Chicken beats all others as far as I am concerned. Always a treat in our house to go there and enjoy the food. 10/10 from us :)
Came for the butter chicken, stayed for the, well... butter chicken. Their other dishes are decent, like most Indian restaurants really, but the butter chicken I would probably even bathe in.
Chicken tikka is good as well & mango lassi (has anyone ever had a bad one though really).
The owners are really down-to-earth and seem like great people.
Have been several times and will go several more.
Really satisfying indian for a great price. Pretty good service, but an ugly decor. Usually get takeaway from there and it really hits the spot. Somosas can be a bit oily, but have great flavour. Curries are very yum, but not always fresh. Average place, always pretty nice though.
Amazing food. The chicken vindaloo is not for the faint heart. But if u want super spicy Indian pallete suiting chicken in Melbourne. This is what u eat!!
The restaurant is empty most of the time during lunch time. Been there a few times with my colleagues and we only met other person having lunch there once. However, the restaurant is kept clean and tidy, and the food is yum. Good enough to make us come back again and again. The lunch special is especially good value for money.
Always great food with terrific flavour and wonderful, old fashioned service. Tonight was something special, really hit the spot. You and your wife are beautiful people.
Fantastic little place, friendly staff. Chef selected food for our group. Got it spot on? Quick and friendly service. I would highly recommend if staying near Albert Park: South Melbourne
By far the best Indian in town! Best butter chicken and the owners are so kind. I love that they deliver and always with a smile on their face. I probably order takeaway from here once a week, I love it. Thanks and Im sure I will see you soon.
Try the butter chicken its great. Service is impeccable as you are treated like royalty by the staff. Reasonable prices.
However, the restaurant can definitely use a renovation.
This place was really good! Their papadums pack a real good crunch and they marinate their butter chicken with tandoori spices so it's full of flavour. There was more meat in their curries than most other Indian places I've been to which was a lovely surprise. Their raita was thick and chunky, with lots of cucumber and tomatoes in it. I'm already trying to figure out what I would like to try next!
Very happy; tasty and cream curry with lovely soft garlic naan bread:). Service was fast, friendly and polite. The restaurant is warm and cosy for these cold winter nights.
Some reviews are just not worth reading and not doing justice to this place, it is one of the best indian restaurants in the area and has great prices and size of portions, on top of that they have very fast delivery.
Wonderful meal as always. Have been going here for years. We moved out of the area a few years ago and missed this Indian gem. Revisited tonight and love it! Chicken butter cream our favourite. Kids loved it too
AMAZING! by far the best Indian in the area
A local curry house is an important part of a good Friday night! BYO makes it even better! Bedi’s has been in South Melbourne for a loooooonnnnggggg time and there is barely a table free by 7.30 on a friday night. The service is all good, the atmosphere is nice, bit of Bollywood on the tv and we have everything we need for a great night Indian style.
Above Average!. Bedi's is above average compared to a lot of indian joints in melbourne who are no where near decent when it comes to being authentic with curries and flavors. The palak paneer and butter chicken were amazing, rogan josh was good but extremely hard to chew. The breads are decent, not a bad place to go/order from if you dont know better.
Best Best Very Best in Victoria. Simply brilliant ... Fresh and tasty, well marinated meats and traditional hot sauces. Without doubt the very best Indian restaurant in Victoria. Been eating here for 15 years+ and have tried loads of others but always come back to Bedi's even though we live 40 minutes away!! Give it a go, Davinda & Rita would love to see you!
Beautiful! Friendly staff, most hospitable! Butter cream chicken is to die for! Roti cooked to perfection. Tamarind sauce was the best we've tasted. Quiet, romantic, intimate little restaraunt. All good! Highly recommend.
Omg the best. I have to say the best indian food in Melbourne. The owner is so friendly

They do great butter chicken
B for Brilliant Bedi's!. If you live in the Southbank/South Yarra/ South Melbourne area you just have to order Bedi's Indian on those nights your all cozy at home and seeking some comforts that only a chicken korma and saag meat with Naan Bread are so delicious! Now I cannot handle spicy food but their korma is ohhh so finger licking good especially with their rice and the bread dipped in the sauce! I always am never dissapointed when I call them for delivery ;)
Top of the top for bedis! We eat there atleast once a fortnight (when I say eat there - I mean get delivery). The lady that works there pretty much everyday has to be the loveliest lady I have ever spoken to. For the life of me; I cannot remember her name! But she brightens my day when I speak to her! Best service I have ever had and it's over the phone. Now the food, not your regular Indian cuisine. Much more. Flavours are mouth watering and we now regularly order the pudina chicken, beef vindaloo and a whole tandoori chicken. My friend on the phone always recommends something and we almost always take it because she's always right! Yum yum yum!
Best Indian take away in South Melbourne.. Probably wouldn't eat at the restaurant though! Finest Beef Madras and Chicken Tikka..
Cute owners but a bit blah. Was excited to try Bedi's after reading the reviews and craving good, home cooked Indian food. The owners were completely lovely and the place was nice, a bit out of the way for South Melbourne/Southbank, on a random street near the highway. The food was average, it wasn't something I was ooo-ing and ahh-ing unfortuantely.
Try it for yourself. It was surprisingly good. Delivery was quick, food was hot. Will be going back.
Went there last night with 6 people at 8pm, easily got a table. Really lovely family staff. Food came out pretty quick, and everything I tastes as awesome. Favourite was the beef madras. Can't comment on the price cause someone else paid. Was a great night!
Good despite the reviews. I was a little hesitant going there after reading some of the reviews below, but figured after being in business for 30 years, surely they must be doing something right.
The food was quite good and no-one at my table had any complaints. The Garlic Naan was delicious and the Tandoori Chicken was sweet and tender.
Their specialty Butter Chicken was very tasty and the rest of the meal equally nice. Only downside is I would have liked some papadums and dip at the start, but these are charged as extra...which was disappointing but not a game changer.
The food was slightly more expensive than other Indian places, but it is South Melbourne after all and we came away with a feast + wine for $35 a head.
Good but expensive. After reading some mixed reviews I gave Bedi's a call and ordered the butter chicken (medium) and saffron rice. Drove down 15 minutes later and meal was ready but I was shocked that this was $18! It was a good size portion for one person and was absolutely delicious! I have been living in London with access to some of the best curry houses in the world and finding one in Melbourne is tough! One dish down and very impressed. Bedi's, if you are reading this listen to your old and new customers, I think you need to drop the price a bit. Or throw in a naan bread.. So many places offer free delivery too..
Amazing. Love this restaurant. Best butter chicken. The service is very good and they do delivery!
Best butter chicken -ask for it extra spicy! It's perfection!
Best curries in Melbourne! The butter chicken is to die for!!!
Great Indian. Originally from England, I've found it hard to find an Indian restaurant in Melbourne which compares to the standard back home, but Bedi's comes as close as I have found. Got taken here last year to dine in and have been back numerous times to order for home delivery. Food is always great, would recommend to anyone in the area. Only downside is the length of time to wait for delivery - usually between 60 to 75 minutes.
Bedis is on of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in a while!! The food is just incredible especially the butter chicken, ordered delivery a couple of times and the food was in our doorstep in under 30min-- but mostly go there to dine in with the family and they always enjoy it. The prices are also very cheap surprisingly, and the sizes are just perfect to share all around, so if you want great food, service, along with great prices I would certainly urge you to try out bedis!!
Big Birthday Booking. We booked in her for about 25 of us on a Thursday night and for what we wanted and expected the majority of us were happy. We pretty much had the place to ourselves which worked out well for us because we brought plenty of booze, BYO benefits were plenty! The highlight for the table was the butter chicken which I believe they are famous for. If you are looking for a low key, affordable Indian this place can pull it off. To their credit they managed to get all our orders out in good time which can't have been easy with only one chef, or so it seemed!
Great food, this little place serves the best butter chicken which they call chicken butter cream. Only downside is the price as it is too expensive. Also the premises needs a good clean as there's lots of food splatter on the walls.
Interesting little place just off Kingsway. Like most Indian style restaurents could do with a clean. The veg food was fantastic but meat dishes tasty but quality of lamb not so great. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Return to old haunt. Chicken Butter Cream House Speciality was very tasty, better than many I had. Vindaloo and Biryani cooked with lamb satisfied the 4 of us. It has been 15 years since my last visit and from memory still one of Melbourne's better Indian.
Food’s good, cricket decorations around the room are good, service and staff are. swift and friendly. but, the wine i was given came out of a bottle that had already been opened and the food is a tiiiiny bit pricey.
Just been to Bedi's Indian restaurant... what can I say but amazing!! The owner Devinda meet us upon arrival where within a minute We all had a drink served. The restaurant is filled with the most wonderful & important cricket history with a special section devoted to Devindas favourite cricketer Shane Ware. This alone is worth going. The food came out nearly as fast as the drinks & when I say traditional & amazing l mean it! As l never joke around with food! A must visit!! 5 Stars
Loved dinner here and can’t wait to go back! Great service and super friendly staff. BYO wine, food was perfect portion, and well priced. Recommend the pickled drumsticks 👍🏼
Great food!!! if looking for a very cheap place, i wouldn’t go here. Other than the price and the wine (a bit old) It’s very good! My belly has never been this satisfied… ever!

Bedi's has got to be the best Indian food I've eaten before. The Rogan Josh and butter chicken are the best there. The staff are very friendly and aren't afraid for a chat! I also love the cricket themed walls aswell. Would recomend anyone this restraunt if they asked where's the best Indian restaurant.
