This Thai restaurant is located on Clarendon Street near the corner of park street. There's plenty of space in the restaurant including floor seatings. The food is pretty pricey for the portion but still in lin with most of the restaurants in south Melbourne. We forgot the name of the dishes but the stir fry minced pork and the vermicelli dish are great!
Gru Thai is simply awesome food, quite reasonable prices, and good service.
The interior could do with a shake up, but don't let that put you off, the food is great.

Been here a couple of times and they have never disappoint me. Love the Tom Yun soup (creamy) and Pineapple Fried Rice. Pad Thai is really good too, noodles are soft and has really good fragrant.
Nice place the staff are friendly. We found the Tom Zap was great — soft pork bone soup. Ordered Tom Yam and the friend barramundi fish was good.

The Pad ginger and Thai fried rice were good. The environment is nice and relaxing, the staff is nice. My friend and I had a good time here.
We had dinner at Gru Thai and ordered the Red duck curry and Pad Thai with egg omelette. Both dishes were delicious. I would have preferred a bit more for the duck curry which seemed a bit small but other than that it was great. It has a real tropical flavour with lychee and pineapple. It has a mild-average level of spiciness. It was paired with a coconut rice which was very fragrant and tasty.
The Pad Thai was very good (and I know because I always order Pad Thai at every Thai restaurant I go to to have something default to compare and judge it by). It had the right amount of sweetness, sourness and spiciness (fyi it's not really spicy at all).
We were both really impressed with the restaurant, the service was good and the food came pretty fast. The restaurant is also conveniently located on Clarendon street which has some other eateries and restaurants on. it too.

Gru Thai is a new place in South Melbourne which is either liked or disliked by bloggers. Here they do authentic Thai but not as authentic as Cookie. They had several Groupons which bloggers and customers bought alike. Here not only are they a restaurant but they are also a gift and grocery store. You can buy things to take home. And yes they do Menulog but we weren't allowed any takeaway.
I love the presentation ~ I love the environment and I love the food!!!! I ordered the duck curry, it was served in a coconut shell and I just like the taste!

I find the soups authentic like you get in Thailand,tho the Tom kha Gai could have more chicken meat
ambience is relaxed and its a very spacious eatery,you can dine thai style with the cushions or seating.

We came here on a cold Friday night. The restaurant was pretty busy and it took a while for us to be served. We ordered mussamun beef curry, pad see ew and roti with peanut sauce which were excellent and nicely presented. Would definitely come back!

Gru Thai has been on our list for a while, as we bought a deal through Groupon. I feel like it could be one of those places that's kept alive through Groupon. Located on the main street in South Melb it was easy to get to, via a Collins St tram past Crown or the rare no.1 tram we took from Flinders.
We went to this place on a Wednesday night. The restaurant is well located and cosy. We had the Pad Thai and the Pork belly. Both were very tasty ! Waiting staff was verry Nice. We will definitely come back !
Dined here on Sat night as a group of 4. Used a groupon voucher which provided great value. $75 for a 3 course thai meal with drink each. For entrée we had the fish cakes, chicken satay and mixed entree. For mains we had thai green chicken curry, ginger beef, pad satay prawns and pineapple fried rice with seafood. For dessert we had coconut ice cream with banana dumpling, banana fritter, sticky rice with mango and tapioca coated water chestnuts with fresh coconut milk. I enjoyed a delicious mixed lychee drink which reminded me of being back in Thailand again. All of us enjoyed the food – there was plenty and we were quite full when we left. Service was friendly and we were lucky enough to get a front door car park also on a Sat night. With the groupon voucher this was a great value deal. Worth a visit!

Dinner was lovely, we had 3 course meal with drinks. Mix entree for starter, duck curry was a lil sweet for my tooth but it was delicious, chef recommended stir fry crispy pork was nice with burst of flavour! While cleaning our savoury pallet for a mango sticky rice and red ruby to end the night.
Overall: service well done, deco presentable, dinner lovely!

Great food and great service. Plenty of gluten free meal options. We've been twice now and enjoyed the meals both times. The faves have been yellow curry and satay chicken skewers. Very nice decor, we love the look of the floor seating at the front (although couldn't sit there for a whole meal) and the wood detail on the walls.
We love this place. Like all good Thai restaurants food was fresh and fast. And very authentic. Particularly enjoyed the red duck curry and pad Thai. Would go back again soon .Highly recommend

I think the service is pretty good. Today they gave me a chicken order instead of a beef like I ordered and when they realized their error they immediately apologized and sent back to the kitchen for the correct order.
I tried the Panang curry and it came with a free soup as part of the lunch special. I thought the taste was pretty authentic and delicious.

The Royal Dumplings are amazing. The blue colour comes from a secret Thai natural ingredient. You need to try this great place. The roti bread was the lightest and the peanut saud the tastiest we have ever had. Thanks to the delightful staff as well.

I ordered the chicken spring rolls and yellow thai curry with rice. It was delicious and was very satisfiying. I would recommend anyone to come here! Im going to come back here.
Upon returning from a holiday in Thailand, we were craving authentic Thai food and Gru did not disappoint. The food is fresh and full of flavour. The service is frat, and the atmosphere relaxed.
We bought a coupon for 4 people for a 3 course meal plus one drink each. The menu had a good selection and we could order everything from the menu with only seafood having a $5 surcharge. Our drinks came out immediately and water was refilled constantly. The food was excellent and served on beautiful Thai crockery. We were treated as full paying customers even with coming with a coupon. We will definitely return.
Delicious food and attentive service. We ordered the old favourites (green chicken curry, prawn pad thai and stir fry beef and basil) but the menu looked really interesting. We'll definitely branch out next time. Atmosphere is pleasant and quite lively.
Cute little thai restaurant we tried the other day. Food was innovative, probably not your most traditional Thai food but never the less it's worth a try. The duck red curry was served in fresh coconut. You can scrape off the coconut flesh which gives the dish an extra fragrance. I also liked the lychee they added to the curry, I find it goes even better with the duck than pineapple bites. On the downside though, our barramundi was not cooked through, we had quite a lot of raw fish in the middle which we had to throw out.
As for dessert, we really enjoyed the thai milk tea flavoured snow shave with pearls, cornflakes, condense milk, cream and Bread on the bottom!!

This was our first visit to Gru Thai and we weren't disappointed at all. The staff are friendly and efficient. The food was spot. We had Fish Cakes, Veggie Spring Rolls, Beef Salad and Stir Fry Vegetables and Tofu and a serve of rice. All of it was very delicious. The right amount of chilli for us and just added a little kick. Not a bad price. Certainly better than some other Thai offerings in the area. Certainly beats Little Buddha in Middle Park by a mile.

You can always tell how good a Thai restaurant is by their pad thai. I had the chicken pad thai, take away and it was delicious! Probably the best that I've had in Melbourne at $12.90 take away!

First time visit. Lovely staff :) Authentic Thai seating. I'm a huge massaman advocate and theirs was on point! Got a little experimental and tried their pineapple fried rice. It comes at a premium price, but it's a great mix of sweet & savoury with awesome presentation, no regrets. If only they delivered to Pascoe Vale. Wouldn't mind eating like this on the regular! 5/5
The Best Thai food I've ever had, I think it's better than Yin Thai 2 and Chin Chin 🌚🌚🌚 the experience I had was great, I love the light and all the table and seats setting, it's very Asian and all the waiters and waitress are so nice, they even share their own culture and experiences with you. From entry to dessert is all tasty Thai food, I like the fish cake and soup ! Red Curry beef is my favourite 💃💃💃 of course always start with a glass of coconut juice after settled in your seats 👍👍👍
Recently opened in South Melbourne, Gru Thai is a nice space, there are tables in the window area where you can sit cross legged on the floor or plenty of tables back in the restaurant area. The menu is extensive with all the classics and the service was nice and friendly. Entrees are my dream list of the best Thai treats, I could order them ALL!! Spring Roll, Curry Puff, Chicken Satay, Fish Cake, Herbs Chicken Wings, Mooping & Sticky Rice, Gaiping & Sticky Rice, Golden Bag and Nam Gai – Deep fried marinated chicken ribs.

This is a new restaurant. The food is very nice, very traditional Thai food. People are very nice too. Been here twice this week. The fish cake and papaya salad are my favourite. But the papaya salad is very spicy even for medium spicy. The Tom Yum soup is super delicious. Overall, I love everything here
New Thai place along Clarendon street. Huge menu, so I stuck with the classics. Beef salad was excellent. Beef was tender, dressing was spot on, just the right level of chilli. Chicken pad thai was one of the better versions I've tried. Good balance of flavours and not too oily. The interior of the restaurant is very nice with a mix of traditional and western seating options. 10% off for take-away orders. Recommended!
Nice chill Thai restaurant. You could come here and take it slow and easy. Food is reasonably priced although not exactly cheap. Service is not rushed but it is pleasant. Typical Thai pop music playing in the background is nice. Good quality food that has the right flavours and isn't too sweet ( which is a mistake I have noticed in many other Thai restaurants)

Really good! We had the Thai buffet which was $29.90 each. It had a selection of meat (beef, chicken & pork), along with other sides like mushrooms, noodles, fish balls, veggies and others. The meat was placed on top of a stove to be BBQ-ed, whilst the others are placed on the sides and filled with soup, sort of like a hot-pot style cuisine, but combined with BBQ! It also comes with sides like special fried rice, deep fried calamari, ham & cheese spring rolls and more, which were all yummy. Although the waiters are not fluent in English, they still provided us with good hospitality. Would recommend!
