I seriously love this place! Been here a few times and has been consistently great with friendly service. Portions are well worth the price and the food is super tasty!! Highly recommend Chicken Katsu curry! Can’t wait to come back here
This little restaurant is my favorite place in the CBD.
I have been trying different places to eat a good and fresh Sushi for the last 3 years, but when I found this place I loved it!!
The sushi, the hamburgers, the chicken katsu curry... everything in there for me is delicious and has a good value.
Called past this Japanese restaurant and grabbed some rice triangles. I had a beef and a pork triangle.
These little packets are amazing, wrapped in seaweed and full of a good filling. I’ve had different varieties in the past but the ones from Rolling Nori are some of the best I’ve had.
The seaweed was good too quality, and the filling, well it was just delicious. The great things about these triangles unlike traditional sushi is that they are wrapped in plastic so they won’t spill and they don’t make a mess. Yummo!
This place is definitely worth a visit. And Choya is only $4 a bottle. What a bargain lol
Fresh sushi and sashimi, a perfect place for when you need to grab food on the go or to eat in for udon/curry. The poke bowl had many elements to it, a healthy alternative and super filling. Affordable, delicious and aesthetically pleasing Japanese food
After reading the reviews for Rolling Nori, I must concur with the masses. Rolling Nori does comfort Japanese food that's tasty, filling and affordable.
The chicken katsu curry don hit the spot. Not only was the chicken katsu lightly crumbed and tender, the curry sauce was silky smooth, albeit a bit under-seasoned. Instead of white rice, black rice gave me clean eating vibes. I also really enjoyed the addition of the soft boiled egg, and pine nuts to give the dish texture.
The spicy pork spaghetti was no less delicious, but don't be fooled by the name - it was definitely not spicy at all. The rich savoury and slightly sweet sauce was undeniably flavoursome. Moist chunks of pork and fresh veggies round up this dish, and that yummy soft boiled egg makes an appearance once more.
Don't expect traditional Japanese, Rolling Nori is more akin to Japanese fast food and that's all we need sometimes.
😱Lizzie’s first impression: first time trying this humble place out and the food is delicious.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: we tried the curry tonkatsu which is the deep fried crumble chicken fillet and also got the chicken tonkatsu which has a seared chicken with an egg and teriyaki sauce. They were both delicious and so affordable.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: it is a little far out of the cbd but I reckon it’s worth going to!
🥇Lizzie rates overall: a great small cafe along the upper east side building. Loved every bit of it!

Japanese cafe with Korean influence. Been here a few times. Their sushi and onigiri are flavouful and delicious. The style of the food is very modernised.
Loving this little nook shop tuck in Rose Lane. This is my go-to place for Katsu Curry! It never fails. Tried the Pork Belly Ramen and it was not too bad, slightly on the salty end. Will try something else the next time.
A tiny, hidden away eatery that serves yummy Japanese curries that are great value! I had a katsu curry which had lots of extras - an egg, pickles, veggies. The curry sauce was nicely spiced and comforting. A massive meal and delicious.
Stopped off here while looking for apartments and it really exceeded our expectations! I had some edamame, vegan sushi, and an iced coffee. My partner got the fried chicken burger with fries which was HUGE (surprising to find great value for money in the CBD!). I stole some of his fries so I can vouch that they were delicious. The staff were super friendly, and they also have beer and vegan Sriracha mayo (heck yeah!).
This place is a hidden gem. The curry is awesome, definitely one of the top dishes in Melbourne. If you're going here during lunch time on a weekday I'd suggest a small group of 2-4 people as there are limited seats.
I love this shop. Small but it’s cute and has lots of gems. I had a chicken katsu curry it was super delicious and well balanced except that the salad dressing(mayo) was way too much all over it. They have many different kinds of Japanese takeaway stuff like soba noodles, sushi, bento etc with very good price. they look all gorgeous and I wanted to try them all! Good service and reasonable price. :)

Love the salmon poke here. That’s worth. One of my favourite but hardly had it cause they only make 3 per day.
All the sushi rolls are oversized. Never found any sushi with cheap price but that big size in Melbourne especially the filing are fresh.
Other hot dishes are also nice and healthy.
Service is nice and quick.
The place is small but I think that’s not a problem cause most of customers come for take away.
Our apartment is near this place so there are some morning that we would grab breakfast here. Wether it’s onigiri, poke, beef don or their udon, everything tastes absolutely delicious!!!! Love everything! Honestly I wasn’t expecting it to be so good because of the rating in zomato. But i really wish the rating could be higher. Because their food is amazing! Honestly... what’s going on people?!
Anyway despite their humble appearance, their food variety is no joke. Love their sushi boxes and all their other mains. It is a bit pricey, but you get what you paid for! Huge portions, filling food and don’t forget delicious! Their poke and tempura udon is my favorite!
Would definitely recommend this to friends and family, and if i ever back in melbourne i would come to eat here again!
Cute Jap cafe with good food. It’s great value and right portion sizes, leaving you satisfied but not stuffed. My favourites on their menu is the fried chicken cup (PERFECT fried chicken fix, with a twist as they add shredded coconut on top) and the udon. Best value and tasting Japanese food in the area!
Moved into the neighbourhood for a month now and just absolutely love this place! Good food, reasonable prices and the staff are super friendly. Pretty much my everyday lunch to uni.
A really great lunch spot hidden in the middle of Rose Lane. Lunch menu all under $10 and serving size is very generous. Quality ingredients and great presentation for the 3 times I have been here. Only problem is the limited & (semi) open seating (definitely bring a jacket when the weather is cool). The tables are also really close together, only 2 tables seat 4 people and the other 6 tables seat 2-3.
Finally this place is on Zomato! 😁 I've been a regular customer for this place for the past month. Rolling Nori is a small Japanese restaurant tucked in the middle of Rose Lane. This place is heavily packed during lunch time.
The owner is really kind and friendly, I came here around 8.50pm (they close at 9) to grab some onigiri. I failed to open it properly and when the owner saw that incident, he quickly grabbed my onigiri, took the new one, gave it to me while showing me how to open it properly.
I really love how they pay attention to small details of the dish. Most of their hot dishes will come with brown rice, perfectly medium-boiled egg, Shitake mushroom, bok choy, and salad leaves with sauces on top.

- Chicken teriyaki on rice. Bomb! Love the flavour of the sauce.
- Beef don is on point
- Extremely friendly staff
- Quick service
Pandont ❌❌❌
- Place is small and tight
- Curry is nice, but I was hoping for something more authentic.
Always love this place. Will be back in a few days :)
Called past Rolling Nori on my quest to find a better lunch spot (I know they’re out there). This place does an incredible Teriyaki Chicken Don with all the care with presentation you get in Japan . I can see why so many are scathing of other Melbourne institutions like Don Dons ( I still love you Double D).
This Teriyaki Chicken has pickles and a soft boiled yolks egg for good measure and the chicken itself was cooked tender and tasty but I loved the inclusion of wild rice, broccoli, leafy greens and bok choy. A great all round lunch dish.
It’s a very cosy venue with most of the seating outside and nicely tucked away down Rose Lane. I’m glad people haven’t discovered it yet as it will give me a window without queuing with the office lunchtime crowd.
