Review Spudbar - Melbourne

Ordered an aloha salmon poke bowl and Mexican chicken spuds on EatClub. When we arrived to pick up our order, we were told that they were short on the salmon for the poke bowl and asked us to pick a replacement for the salmon. We picked the chicken parma, and was rejected when we asked for a bit more than what she gave us as we thought this small amount of chicken (just two strips) did not compensate the fact we did not receive what we initially ordered. The poke bowl did not taste that good either. The Mexican chicken was average tasting and included some not so fresh unpeeled carrots.

Had spudbar in many places before but this is the worst in terms of quantity. It’s basically half empty bowl. Can’t believe how much I paid for this. Also ordered Lamb rogan josh which is basically soup with barely any meat. Better go to other spudbars

Fresh ingredients and generous portions with friendly service - thanks Niharika! Great for a casual and quick meal.

I rarely complain but having a pulled pork bowl with no distinguishable pulled pork isn’t it. The only reason I know it wasn’t completely skipped was the faint taste of barbecue but there was next to no actual bits of pork. To top it off the server was coughing (quite badly) and did not wash her hands which really put me off. I used to love spud bar but this was nail in the coffin for me.

Very underwhelming, I was so looking forward to going to SpudBar, I love myself a good baked potato but it was very disappointing. The potatoes were all small potatoes that just get broken up and they add toppings over them. I thought it would be a big baked potato that gets split slightly and filled with toppings. Ours was cold and the toppings weren't great.

I've tried this SpudBar twice through a food delivery service. The first time I ordered one each of the chocolate and nutella brownies - Both weren't overly fresh and a bit stale. Still edible though. Ordered a bottle of regular Sunkist and got sent the sugar free version. My second time was trying a spud. I ordered "The Classic". The spud turned up barely warm. The butter on top hadn't even melted, so that means it wasn't even hot when the toppings were put on in the shop. The delivery was less than 10 minutes drive away and very prompt, so it cannot be blamed on the driver. It also had incorrect toppings - No corn or cabbage. It did include bacon, which wasn't specified on the ingredients list. I'm not a vegetarian, but imagine if someone ordered this as a veg option and this turned up. It seems like attention to detail isn't a big thing here, so I'd stay away if you have allergies or dietary requirements. The toppings that were there (tasty cheese, sour cream, spring onion and bacon) were all quite substantial in portion, so that's a positive.

I was desperate for dinner before jumping on the freeway home in peak hour. Wish I’d gone down the road. I wasn’t even able to eat it 😭 the potatoes were over cooked and so dry, I didn’t even know you could do that to potatoes. The chilli bean sauce was horrible and salty and that is normally my favourite part at other Spud bars. The ‘bar’ part of the franchise I thought meant fresh available ingredients. I’m so disappointed.

I am normally a big fan of spud bar at other locations however I was really disappointed in the serving size here. I ordered the chilli bean & salsa. I could only find a few beans in my bowl. The potato was also cold as the server had it sitting in a bowl ready for the next person to order, even though the store was empty.

Crabapples For Lunch
Great comfort food and value for money. Some of the spuds cost about $14, but it's a really big portion and hits the spot with all the ingredients mixed in. When doing takeaway or delivery, I often had 2-3 good meals out of one of these spuds, and I was quite satisfied at the end of each meal too. Pick whichever ingredients you like really - I like the meat lovers and my wife likes the chicken avocado.

Staff are friendly, though the process of preparing your spud does take a few minutes because they spend some time chopping up your spud with scissors before adding ingredients. I assume this will lead to a back load during peak times.

Great place for spuds and light on your wallet - if you can stop yourself from eating the whole thing.
Some Bunee Loves Food
One of my favourite quick lunch place - I like the festival spud with melted butter, tasty cheese, bacon, light sour cream and spring onions. Very creamy soft spud with a subtle taste of garlic butter.

3.5

As the name suggests, spuds are the star here. You can choose between potato or sweet potato or both as a base for your salad, and then topped it up with whatever you fancy. For what seems like a really compact-sized box, it was heavier than it looks and was an incredibly filling meal. I now understood how Matt Damon survived on potatoes in Mars (see: The Martian).

It wasn't just the starchy potatoes that left me bursting at the seams, it was also the generous amount of toppings covering the potatoes. In fact, when I first opened up the box, I couldn't see any potatoes, and had to dig deep to reach them. While nothing spectacular, the ingredients were fresh and the flavours were well-rounded.

The lovely server who handled my order was extremely helpful and thoughtful. My initial order was not available, so I told him to "surprise me" for my replacement order, and he was mindful enough to make the replacement order as identical to my initial order as possible.

Awesomely fresh and huge quantity. Very tasty. The people are friendly and talks passionately well the spud that they build. The sitting outside with the heaters on....is very good for a weekend lunch. Loved the place.

Love spudbar ever since they started.
Ingredients are just so fresh and healthy.
I’ve noticed it’s only men who work at spudbar. Hardly ever see a female employed. However, the guys could really be more friendly and actually up sell their customers, because it’s really annoying for customers having to ask what extras they would like without the staff giving us attitude.
Not happy that they have increased the pricing for each dish.
Still return every now and then, I hope they can fix these few issues.
Take your lover, friends and family here for healthy spuds.
I enjoy eating here for lunch. I usually get the classic sweet potato (LOVE GARLIC BUTTER) and if I'm feeling cheeky I'll add bacon 🐷

My friend raves about the Moroccan Chickpea, this is also worth trying along with the chicken and avocado 🐥

Great cheap eat and fresh ingredients used, the staff are friendly. I am a returning customer 😀

Went there for a salad. It was fresh enough but not enough dressing. Asked for more and was told it would cost more. Fair enough. Ate my meal outside but left because of all the dirty plates on tables which attracted seagulls and pigeons flying onto the tables and eating out of the bowls! Hopefully they get washed well. Disgusting!
Devil In The Detail
Never appreciated a potato more in my life. Great service, good food, cosy layout. Recommended if you need some carbs in your life. Mexican is the way to go.

Best winter idea ever. Ordered the chook and avo dish and my friend ordered one of the specials (some Moroccan soup). Mine was nice but chook was cold and sort of took away from the warmth and taste of the sweet potato. My friends was lovely though. I'll definitely go back but be a bit more restrictive with what I use as toppings as I love the taste of sweet potato as it is and want to actually taste it. Quick, easy and cheap!!!

Ordered a free range chook salad and sweet potato as an alternative to potato. I would say i am not a big fan of sweet potato and the salad didn't give me the "wow" factor on the first taste. But if you are looking for a plain salad, you can't go wrong on this.

So yum 👌🏼 lacking a little chicken for the amount of sweet potato but otherwise excellent quality, standard and presentation. Can't wait for my next visit!

It is quite average. I had the mexican version and it wasn't anything great. Not bad either. Clean and good staff. Spending ten dollars on a potato with some toppings - not worth it.

Thumbs Up. We went here for lunch and was pleased to find they had delicious vegan options. I built my own sweet potato with veges which was so filling and delicious.

Cracked bowl. I usually get the spuds takeway but decided to eat in yesterday. The ceramic bowl they served it in was cracked around the rim and noticeable. I am surprised they servered it to me in a cracked bowl. Quite unhygienic. I would have complained but it was too busy. I used to be a regular customer but not anymore.

Great Spuds but....... I really love a good spud.... and the spud bar do a pretty good one most of the time!! Nothing worse than getting your spud home and finding a dried out, hard shriveled up Spud!
What annoys me most is they have to cut it and know how awful a spud they give you.
3 times in 1 year... blegh.

Really friendly service. Yummy tato with bolognese, corn, cheese and chilli. $6.90

Yum, filling and pretty cheap. All menu items are gluten free which is a bonus for this little coeliac!

Ordered a salad on a Sunday night (when it wasn't that busy at all) got my order only to find out when I got home that sweet potato was in my salad. Quite disappointed as I repeated my order a number of times. Although my salad was yummy, the sweet potato was all through it. Disappointing!

Yum food and some nice healthy options too at a reasonable price! You get a lot of food for your $!

Great service, delicious food!. GREAT SPUDBAR!! Clean, healthy, simple and delicious food at really affordable prices. Well worth the occasional wait (when it's busy) for the treats to be had here, and I have to say that the staff here are all great (not that common these days). Keep up the good work, South Melbourne team!
