Review Macchiato On Collins - Melbourne

Great sushi at a decent price. Sushi rolls are around $3.50-$4 which admittedly is on the pricier end for sushi. I had the salmon, tuna and crispy chicken. The salmon and tuna are classic choices you can’t go wrong with if you’re a fan of those flavours. The crispy chicken was good as well. I recommend the salmon and tuna over the chicken.

Sushi here is the best I’ve had in ages! It’s made super fresh and they are able to cater to dietary requirements easily. Staff are also wonderful and know my order and it’s really easy to get to with lots of public transport around. Next time you’re looking for sushi, this is your place!

Sushi was Fresh and well portioned. Had the cooked tuna and it came with avocado. Would come here again. No photo as I ate too fast.

Such amazing sushi! It's always so nice coming here and the staff knowing what my order is. The quality is fantastic and I will look forward to coming here in the future.

I have been working in the CBD for 10 years and I go to this sushi place weekly. I absolutely love Japanese food and I can confidently say this is some of the best sushi you will find in the Melbourne CBD. There are almost always lines out the door for this place and there is always speedy , friendly service. Could not recommend more highly.

Good sushi and miso, but the place needs a bit of love; pretty sure they didn't change the name of the business when they bought it as it still has plenty of Italian cafe style decor, and your know, the name itself is a big tip. Don't order bento boxes they overcook the meat then drown it in tonkatsu sauce, which completely defeats the purpose of frying katsu since all the crispiness turns to just a soggy mess that doesn't taste much like pork. Service is good if you get the dad or the mom, but one of the daughters there doesn't seem to understand numbers and has a very bad memory of prices; and will often get my order wrong. I've been coming here for a couple years and growing tired of it.

Sushi is good but not hot dishes. Ordered 2 meals to dine in. Both of them had hair in the meal! Disappointed. Both meals were sent back to the kitchen and we received new plates but no apologies was made, whatsoever.

I was walking past so I called into Macchiato given that my previous experience was soo good. On this visit the service was really friendly and chatty.

I ordered an avocado sushi roll which was alright but it just fell apart as I was eating it.

My teriyaki chicken sushi fell apart after my first mouthful which was really annoying. The flavour was ok, what I ate anyway lol. Mmnn

Overall this place was average.

Previous review- June 2019
4.5/5 OMGosh what a find. Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees. I’ve walked past this place countless times and I finally stopped for lunch. The service was friendly and polite. I ordered some roast duck sushi which was full of meat and the flavour was excellent. My fried chicken was fantastic, full of chicken and really fresh. I couldn’t taste any sugar in my sushi which was great.I had a salmon sashimi which was also really tasty. Gosh what a find!! This place is a must visit if your in the city.

Ignore the name and don't go hoping for a coffee place. This is a full on Sushi joint. Possibly the freshest and cheapest Sushi in the CBD. Peking duck, pork belly and salmon as some of the best.

Bought a sushi box today and it has a good combination of sushi for $10. The sushi rolls have some unusual combinations, like pork floss on top of the sushi with crispy chicken or tempura prawn? inside. I like it, but people looking for traditional sushi might find that a bit odd though.

This place is good for a quick and easy lunch. There is limited seating when it is at peak lunch time. Fairly priced with average sushi and meals. Wouldn’t be my first choice but a good average lunch pick
The Dear Luncher
The chicken was fat that day, my friends - like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. The seaweed layers were bursting at the seams due to the size of the chicken within. The Dear Luncher got about fifty feet out and suddenly, the great chicken beast appeared before him. As if sensing The Dear Luncher’s presence, the fried chicken let out a great bellow. The Dear Luncher said, "Easy, big fella!" And then, as the chicken struggled to deal with being consumed so rapidly, The Dear Luncher realised that something was obstructing his breathing. At that moment, The Dear Luncher could see directly into the metaphorical eye of the fried chicken …. He had swallowed them whole, a hole in one.

Pretty lovely mix of takeaway sushi for only $8. Pretty cheap for the amount of sushi you get. Simple cafe, probably nicer to get take away and sit outside. Friendly service too!

Don't let the name of this Café confuse you, it's one of the best sushi places in the CBD, four pieces of Sushi with change out of $10! Soft shell crab, seafood inari and spicy prawn are outstanding and the the sushi rolls are always fresh, highly recommended.

It's my go to sushi spot in the city, in fact I walk past others to come here. It's the freshest & served at the perfect temperature, not cold and attic and unable to taste the beautiful salmon sever here. Bento boxes are great value too. I often purchase sushi platters for work & family functions and it keeps really well.

Two rice paper rolls, one sushi roll and miso soup for all under $10 (w fresh ginger and wasabi)? Need I say more? This family run business has some how created a hybrid coffee (which is also cheap) and sushi cafe that works. The sushi is made on the premises and is delicious and there is a large variety of other Japanese dishes offered such as teriyaki salmon don and ramen noodles.

If you get past the Italian sounding coffee shop sign, out the back is the freshest sushi ngiri and California rolls you will get in Melbourne. So nice. And cheap. $6.50 for 5 pieces of fresh tuna, salmon and prawn on rice...

Macchiato Sushi... Why ...?. Well I think a bit of false advertising going on here.... as per the signage out front it's Macchiato Sushi on Collins. And as the strange name conjures thoughts of why... a visit will soon confirm that it wasn't such a good idea! My macchiato was terrible, the indoor tables and chairs need a better clean whilst the outdoor settings are best ignored, but, the sushi pack was OK, but then much like a hundred other vendors of sushi. Not worth a return visit and in hind sight not worth an initial visit either.
Gastrology
Despite what the name “Macchiato On Collins” would suggest, this Collins Street cafe is much more a Japanese eatery than it is a coffee place. It serves decent coffees but it is really the Japanese food that brings peoplein during the CBD lunch hour rush.
