Review Eaglemont Dish - Melbourne

Sandra
Awesome cafe. Had a chai latte and a mocha with a blueberry muffin. Service and food was fantastic!

I highly recommend this Cafe in Eaglemont. The smashed avo is so tasty and now my favourite. Even though I changed my mind from takeaway to dine-in, they didn't mind and was still cool with it. The staff were friendly except for one who took our plates after we ate and didn't speak or ask if we were done. The rest of the experience was great and the little hiccup in their wonderful service and food won't change my 5 star. Aniseed is the best Cafe in the neighbourhood.

3.3. Lovely quiet spot in the Eaglemont Village. We were on the way somewhere and needed emergency toasties. Nothing radical. Ham cheese and tomato and one tuna and cheese. The toasties were very well made and were very tasty. They hit the spot beautifully. My long black was a little watery for me though. It lacked a bit of oomph. Nice place though. Lovely polite service here.

Happened to attend market day on Sunday at Eaglemont Village . Grabbed a coffee and a lemon crumble slice - both were fantastic! Even when they were under the pump the staff were super friendly.

The coffee - Really nice (and premium quality beans)! The food - Fresh, tasty and prepared with love! The People - More than Fantastic! Always with a genuine smile! The overall energy of the place - Just the kind of cafe that you'll always want to go back to! 5 solid, stars! R Lee

A quaint little cafe with delicious food that is not over priced (considering the area I was very surprised at how reasonably priced everything was). Staff are really friendly and accommodating... I had my dog with me so they came straight out to take my order (and pat the dog).

Great coffee, friendly staff and good food. Love that the bacon is free range. All the produce tastes fresh. And it's simply a nice place to sit.

I have been coming to "The Dish" since it opened. I also have often bought things to take home for meals. The food is usually very good. Today I was there for lunch and was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the Quiche Lorraine which I had with a salad. It was so much SMALLER than the quiches used to be, about half the size. It was exactly the same price though! Please go back to the quiches you used to make. Taste was good, but size ridiculously small!

Around the corner from Eaglemont train station with ample seating inside.
Traditional breakfast menu with a large warm / cold salad bar.
Service is honest and friendly.

A few years ago this provender/cafe was quite ordinary, with indifferent service, unappetizing, but expensive dishes, bad coffee and factory atmosphere. But recently much is improved: the staff are friendly, the cuisine is good to very good, especially the cakes and sandwiches, and the coffee is outstanding. So very good so far.

The prices are still on the high side and the decor is pedestrian, unless you like the sound of metal chairs on concrete. Old wooden planks for flooring and some eccentric or otherwise character-building wall coverings would help. Examples of similar places with character and excellent food and service are Willo in East Kew, the Red Door in Northcote and Milkwood in Coburg.

A great meal today -Home made pastie - which was really tasty.First time I have been here and I would return.Disappointment with the service of extra hot hot chocolate which was returned and the replacement was just the same if not a little cooler.Toilet just average .

Located in the quaint village of Eaglemont lies this gem! The quality and HUGE variety of both fresh dine in and take away food is exceptional, providing choices for both vegetarians and coeliacs too. You can tell that the food is made with the highest quality ingredients, and the generous servings make the prices worthwhile. The coffee is creamy and hot just as it should be, and the staff and customer service is friendly and fast. You MUST go in on a Thursday and try their passionfruit sponge, it is to die for! The only negative here would be deciding what to eat :)

Ahh the dish. Where does one begin?

Smug and cheerless, the weekend staff do their bare minimum to provide a service to their customers, who wait an eternity for the amateur barista to press the knobs and steam the milk with such a laboured effort it's as if she's operating a 19th century steam turbine. The ancient food sits in the windows of the illuminated chilled coffin cabinet, garnished with price tags that even Harrods wouldn't dare attach to a 4 ingredient chicken curry. When approaching the counter, a young attendant will greet you with a 'what are you doing here' scorn, making you feel as if you've just walked unannounced into the wrong birthing chamber. The place is decorated in that cheap, boring, 'white walls with brown tables' style, making it feel like an IKEA showroom and the walls are peppered with those tasteless paintings where it looks like someone has finger-painted using their own vomit. Perhaps that's what they do with the unsold chicken curry?

Overall, I've lived in the area my whole life and this place has never once provided a welcoming environment for me. There a passive aggressive vibe about the whole place. The staff don't want you there, the coffee is average at best, the muffins and sandwiches overpriced, the 'fresh' meals are clearly not fresh and they don't allow paypass for small purchases such as coffees (which in 2016 is disgraceful when you consider the fact that it would cost them about 25 cents for make the coffee).

Avoid.

I agree entirely with foodnique, slap dash attitude. Food ordinary, service with a friendly smile? We'll forget that. No friendly attitude and I go in every couple of weeks forgetting how poor it is. They know me but never acknowledge. How it survives I don't know but then there is nothing else so why would they try. Disappointing.

A great place for a quick take home meal, that is satisfying and generous. We love their Pasties, and all the dishes are ideal for Friday night dinner instead of eating pizza or fish n chips. Prices are comparable but heaps better, and the whole family loves it.

I've also used The Dish to cater for work functions and although I can't have the food delivered, it's worth the effort, well according to our staff it is. Thanks so much.

I've been here more times than I've actually stayed to eat or drink, every few years we'll drop in to eat something and them remember that you have to pay at least a dollar or more extra for just eating in. Nothing says i dont want to serve you in my very spacious cafe or clean up after you than that. I struggle to understand how a place like this survives on this model, but it has done so for many years, probably because its tucked away in the little Eaglemont strip away from the rest of the world and decent competition. The staff arent the friendliest but not terrible, the coffee and food is pretty average and overpriced for what it is. This place needs a revamp, its looking a bit dated inside. It has potential to be great its in a great location.

Good place - mean girls. Great little place but expensive. Worst still is it's run by the mean girl bregade. Gosh! Never met such cold service by hippster teenagers
Kristin
The food is fine, but I wouldn't go back because it is far too pricey for what is essentially reheated food.

Friendly Prompt Service, Variety of Take Home Meals, Coffee. The staff know their regulars, the quality and variety of both dine and take away food is great, as is their take home meals. Great coffee too. Lots of space, and the quaint quiet village atmosphere just gorgeous. A real gem in the heart of leafy green Eaglemont

Don't bother!. I found the staff very unfriendly, lacked professionalism and were rude.
The food is heated in microwaves, there is no portion control with meal sizings and it either comes out scalding hot or luke warm!
Inefficiency in their operations shows, which is a real shame, because it has the potential to be good.
I won't visit there again.

Terrible service. I live in the area and like to pop in for a quick sandwich, but was told very rudely by a waitress that they had closed off the back section and i could not dine in! She didn't even offer to let me wait! Very offended, never going back!

Great Catering. Eaglemont Dish catered for my husbands 60th birthday. It was a cocktail party. The food was absolutely fantastic especially the mini chicken & leek pies & the mini sliders. Our guests are still raving about all the delicious food. We will definitely be engaging Debra & her team again. Thank you Eaglemont Dish for making the evening so special. Helen & Steve

Its a Dish!. Drinking my perfect coffee and watching waves of fresh food being replenished constantly in the cabinet. I know I have had it before but I cannot go past the takeaway creamy green chicken curry. This place is heaven for those of us who constantly suffer the "whats for dinner?" syndrome. And remember they are huge serves!

An Eaglemont Gem.. We have been regulars at The Dish since they opened 10 years ago. Not only do they do fabulous breakfast and lunch fare but they also have a large array of foods to take home when I can't be bothered cooking. Everything is made on the premises daily . Delicious Curries , lasagne, stir fries, Bol sauce ,pastries, desserts etc, the list goes on . You can also choose from the cabinet to eat in as well. This is a truly a hidden gem and we love it.

Go the Dish!. I've been a regular at the Eaglemont Dish for 10 years and along with hundreds of others love the place. Except for the bread everything is made on premises, eat in in or take it home when you don't have time to cook yourself, it's great.

It's just THAT bad. I run a venue so as a rule have a general disdain for people that leave negative Urbanspoon reviews. This place however was THAT bad that it needed to be done. Terrible food, dismissive and rude staff, weird rules on what you can and can't have and surcharges for eating in, terrible coffee, dirty tables, windows, and glassware. It was like a perfect example of everything a cafe should never be and the worst thing of all is that people were still going there. This little strip of shops would benefit greatly from a good cafe. These absolute amateurs need to move over and let something better take their place
Scoop_sauce
Terrible!. I'm surprised in this day and age places like this are still permitted to exist!

Burnt coffee, rude Kiwi staff and 80% of all food is 'MICROWAVED' to a crisp right there in front of you!

This place needs to be closed down immediately!

I've been here quite a few times and today vowed not to waste my time or money going back to eat again. The food is ok but the staff are unfriendly, slow and disorganised and never seem happy to be there. Dirty plates from the customers before us remained on our table and not even when they came to bring us our food did they show any initiative to clear them until we asked. Coffee was average, meal sizes are generous but my poached EGG was way too hard and there was enough avocado on my plate to feed the whole cafe, it's noisy and lacks character. There are plenty of other places near by I'd rather go to enjoy brekky on a Saturday morning like Miss Marie in Rosanna...YUM!

Terrible service. Unfriendly staff. Dirty tables. Burnt coffee. And I never thought I'd say this but too much topping on the smashed avocado. This place has so much potential. Such a shame.

Pretty expensive for the food. Focaccias and some salads are good but pies aren't.

Lamb curry. Loved the lamb curry with eggplant - ordered the smaller size $13.50 I think. It was plenty big enough. Coffee was good too! They have a varied range of food for lunch or take away. Great cakes too!
