I love the texture of Messina and I can definitely see how they created many branches out of this ice cream. Haven’t had a bad experience with Messina yet!
Dropped by Gelato Messina after dinner the other night for some dessert. What I love about Messina is their creativity and all the flavours are very unique. I like how there’s so many fillings/toppings which always adds a nice texture and a fun surprise. We got the Tiramisu and the Pistachio Praline - I enjoyed the tiramisu but what really impressed me was the pistachio! It was so delicious, especially with the praline mixed through which was absolute heaven. Definitely recommend trying it.
It was a hot summer day, to had to pop into Gelato Messina for some scoops!
They make very high-quality ice cream, with sourcing milk from their own farm and they make their own chocolate too.
I had two scoops in a cup. The first flavour was Salted Coconut & Mango Salsa was smooth and

Review: this gelateria has the largest variety of ice cream flavours. The best strategy is to visit this place multiple times or come in big groups to try everything Messina has to offer. Flavours tend to be on the sweet side. I sampled the Pandan coconut and thought that was full of flavour, but had a slight overly sweet aftertaste.
Went for a boysenberry come ($5.3) and it was delicious - the aftertaste was quite fruity which I enjoyed, and there were also strong hints of milk. I find that the cones here are also tastier - like munching on a crunchy biscuit!

The perfect treat after a meal and if you're in Windsor, you might want to stop by to have their pandan & coconut, and the super dulce de leche as they go hand in hand together
Great flavours. Worth every penny
Had the white choc hazelnut on a packed Friday night and I was so in love with it very creamy and I loved the chunky bits, they just need more people serving as the line was out the door.
I can never decide whether I want to go here or Pidapipo as they are both located on Chapel St. my favourite flavour would probably be the dulce de leche. I love both Messina and Pidapipo, but Messina has more interesting flavours. Amazing consistency in the ice cream.
ABSOLUTE PERFECTIONNNN EVERY SINGLE TIME 😍 Gelato Messina is always on point. They change their specials regularly and they're always tasty. Last night I had TWO scoops of course trying Strawberry & Cream and Cookies & Cream
Tried the limited edition GOT flavours and they were so good!! I ended trying the Ramsay one which was basically a really nice chocolate flavour 😍 but I didn’t realise the prices of scoops have increased so much 😓😓

Amazing good old fashioned Gelato! Wide range of flavours. This place is super busy. Expect to wait in line for a little while before entering as they get a lot of business. Highly recommend coming here, they always have tasty gelato.
Absolutely delicious, fresh and chunky gelato. I have tried about 8 of their flavors so far and none have disappointed. Flavors are true to their description, intense, fresh and definitely hit the spot. They do not hold back on the delicious chunky additions. very similar to the Ben Jerry's philosophy.
My recommendation would be the apple pie. It's like mothers home made apple pie in ice-cream form. Amazing and I will be eating it for a long time to come.
Best. Ice. Cream. 🤤 I think their reputation precedes them; ice cream on point, staff on point. We were talking to the friendly fellow behind the glorious selection of flavours and enquired about whether they do milkshakes. We asked for their best milkshake flavours and he recommended chic mint with vanilla-BIG YES. For the other we decided to be a bit adventurous, so we asked for a pistachio and vanilla milkshake, he looked at us excitingly, “i have never made that before”. For anyone going for a milkshake, try pistachio and vanilla, it was actually amazing. I actually hate nuts and my boyfriend loves pistachio but I found myself stealing his drink! 💕
There are always new and creative flavours in Messina! Might be busy around 8-9pm everyday. But it’s worth the wait. Be ready to explore new flavours.
What an experience!! Such unusual flavours which was nice for a change from the basic chocolate and cookies and cream. The ice cream was soft and could tell it was made fresh. The line was out the door but it went really quick. The cones were nice and was great how they had free water.
Had two scoops here as dessert, being the tirimisu and the strawberries and cream. Both were delicious. My first time here after attending the other sister stores in the city many times, and pleased to inform that the quality is high here too.
I'm such huge fan of Gelato Messina that I often say... if you ever wish to die someday because of excessive eating of Ice Cream... then this should be your suicidal choice.
Presenting here two flavours.... Dairy Milk Chocolate with real chocolate (in form of creamy chunks) with Carmel peanuts and second one is.... Salted Roasted Pistachio with Pistachio praline.... see the thick ground paste of Pistachio layers along with whole salted Pistachio nuts.
These guys either get their ice cream ideas directly from heaven or they have super brains to conceive such brilliant ice creams flavours. I'll soon he posting more of their creations because I'm only allowed to eat 2 scoops in one visit.... that too after 3km of evening walk.
Gelato Messina was heaving after a day in the 40’s in Melbourne. It had turned cool when I arrived but no one seemed to be my less determined to acquire some great gelato. I went for a simple white coconut lychee tonight which looked quite plain but packed in some tasty flavour... the lychee was quite dominant which isn’t my usual observation about the lychee flavour in things generally. Really enjoyed the combo and paid with the Liven app which effectively gave me a 15% discount back as LVN points to be used another time. Likey likey.
Messina is my #1 favourite ice-cream shop hands down, so after dinner, i had to give the windsor store a try! The pistachio and macadamia was so delicious, as expected they were generously filled with nuts! Super delicious however i do feel that fitzroy is ever so slightly better! Definitely a must try if you’re dining in windsor

The gelato was perfect. Their scooping size was plentiful, well at least more than other gelato stalls. They have various flavors and seasonal ones too!
It's not everyday you come in to buy an icecream cake. Rich dark chocodate gelato infuses well with the raspberry sorbet and lightly torched Italian meringue. Staff are friendly and attentive. A well constructed cake.
Great gelato, grear location and good service. I ordered three scoops of caramel, dulce de leche & cookies and cream, yes it was seeetest over load but worth it. I loved the dulce de leche and loved the fact that they make this in store.
Rich, creamy yummy gelatos and got many interesting flavours! Been here many times. Great service too. Highly recommend for gelato lovers. :)
Been here a couple of times now and it never fails to disappoint. Large array of flavours to choose from, there's something for everyone! The choc sorbet tastes like Nutella. If you don't have a big sweet tooth I'd recommend lemon or vanilla.
Messina is the bomb. Period.
Each and every flavor is so creamy and sinfully rich - it’s truly unlike any other gelato I’ve had. Only thing stopping it from being 5 stars unfortunately, was the not-so-great service at the Windsor counter.
On the way to the place to drink at next door, couple were eating Gelato. My family were craving for ice-cream and haven't tried Messina before. They didn't forget to buy after drank coffee and ordered some fruits and chocolate flavours and I choose Sesame & tiramisu.
By the time getting back to the car, my Gelato was completely finished by partner not even photo taken!
When I asked for tasting Sesami, it was right sweetness and not enough coffee flavour in tiramisu but still awesome.
Go for the head quarter Messina if you can.
It is really crowded on weekends as it is located on busy Chapel street, right near so many restaurants and shops. I have tried so many different gelato flavours and still trying again and again.
First things first....this is THE BEST ice cream shop in the world (and I'm comparing it to icecream from all over europe)
3 scoops minimum here, anything less is just entry level. Chocolate Fondant is a perfect starting point. Apple pie (pictured) is the best flavour I've ever had, real crunchy pieces of sugary apple pie mixed through creamy apple gelato. Other great flavours are bounty, white choc hazelnut, pear & rhubarb. Not to mention the amazing ever changing specials.
The fruity sorbet flavours mango, raspberry etc are all incredible, not overly sweet but absolutely bursting with flavour.
Love the tiramisu and blood orange flavour. Taste absolutely delicious! Have tried many others flavour but doesn't find any other flavour interesting yet. Definitely highly recommended tiramisu and blood orange
Middle of winter and already on a sugar high we end up here of all places. Was still busy but not as hectic as in summer where you can only see some of the flavours on offer.
I got a couple flavours in a cone, the salted coconut and mango had large chunks of mango in it and it was super creamy. Already had my fill of sweets for the day so I probably didn't appreciate this flavour as much as I should. The pistachio on the other hand is right down my alley with a nice roasty flavour to it. I really feel conflicted as to which gelateria does the best pistachio gelati!
The guy that served me was pretty generous with the scoops, bonus. Haven't strayed too far from their standard offerings as I find their concoctions confuse my tastebuds. Yet to try any of their sorbetti.
A seven course truffle degustation? Yea why not! Sydney's Messina Creative Department hosted this wonderful occasion and it was nothing short of creative and intricate. Some of Australia’s best truffles was sourced for the event from two farms – Parkesbourne Produce near Goulburn, and Western Australia’s Oakfield Truffles. Individually the respective dishes showcased truffles, such as the kiwi kosho sorbet served with NSW truffles and Sydney rock oyster snow, paired with a pineapple, truffle and vanilla sparkling drink. Mains included a WA black-truffle gelato served atop a potato and parmesan risotto, with yuzu and puffed potato. A truffle-and-passionfruit soufflé with caramelised oak gelato will follow for dessert. All in all an intriguing evening with a lot of thought and consideration given to the presentation and each product before delivery. Will be back for gelato!
Messina's still our pick for the best gelato in Melbourne. There's a great selection of flavours (try the coconut and pandan!) as well as an ever changing specials board.

Love Gelato messina!! The range of flavours are great. And the ever rotating specials are always something to keep it fresh and different. Not badly priced either.
So far the best gelato i have tasted! All of the flavours are so good hence its soo hard to choose which to get. My faves are macadamia crunch, pistachio praline, tiramisu and choc mint. (I hope they can make the halo halo flavour again)
Its hard to say anything about Gelato Messina. Melbourne's gelato culture improved significantly with this Sydney creation. The lines are long but clear quickly. Still remains one of my favourites. People who speak ill of it is just classic tall poppy syndrome. Love Messina.
I love the gelato here. There is always such a variety of interesting flavours and the staff are always patient enough to give you a taste of what you want before deciding. The gelato is smooth and creamy and generous in portion.

Must try gelato in Melbourne! The staff are super friendly and let you taste a few flavours before the final pick. If your not a fan of gelato but would like to try some interesting flavours ... this is the place to go!!
Enough words have probably been written about Gelato Messina so I’ll just say go with your gut when picking your flavour because sometimes the more out there ones are not so amazing.
Heaven is a place on earth and its at Gelato Messina. I could die here and be happy, just shove a few scoops of ice cream in my mouth and call it a day .
The only word that comes to me for this place is ‘WOW’
Not only is the ice cream amazing, the service is great too. The staff is always patient and let you try as many flavours as you like!
Best ice cream in Melbourne and they deliver too.
Melbourne has some of the best ice cream places in the world, and I have reviewed and raved about them, and I still stand by all of those reviews, but this place takes it to a whole new level. The traditional flavours are superb, all of them, their sorbets are excellent too, but I am really into their weird and wonderful flavour combinations. They had Hot Cross Bun ice cream actually in Hot Cross Buns for Easter ! Their weird combinations are weird enough to satisfy me while still being delicious as it hit your mouth. Salty and sweet combinations. Savoury with fruit mixes, and they change every week, so there is always something new to be delighted with. I recently found out they had their own creative kitchens up in Sydney where the sole goal was to come up with new flavours and combinations. They also have digestion multi course ice cream dinners that are like nothing you have ever tasted. It's my place to go when I'm feeling low - it makes me smile and feel so much better !
Definitely the best Gelato in Melbourne.
This place was unbelievable. Came here on a Saturday night with a few friends. The line was out the door. I ordered the chocolate fondue and passionfruit sorbet in a cone. Was absolutely delicious. I recommend ordering through the app - makes the whole process much easier! Friendly staff but not enough seating!
Came in tonight & couldn't decide what flavour icecream to get. Just too much choice! In the end the employee gave us samples of icecream and we made our decision. Unfortunately when I got my icecream it fell in like 3 seconds and the employee was nice enough to give me a new one! In the end I got a blood orange and mango icecream 🍦
Love this place and the vibe it has. The Campari and orange marmalade blew my mind!!! So amazing, such gorgeous flavours! It was busy but not crazy like the Sydney one where you have to line up forever!
This place definitely deserves five starsssss! I would always be served by lovely staff and be satisfied with super delicious gelato! The first time I tried Messina was several years ago, when I went to Sydney (back then they hadn't expanded their businesses to Melbourne) and since then I already loved it. It is such a delight to have a few of this in Melbourne as this is a to-go-spot if you are a gelato lover!
I ordered an ice cream cake from here and it was a super easy process. The cake looked great and the staff were great in explaining the after care for the cake. The vanilla ice cream inside was mostly crystallised which was a bit sad but the rest of the cake was amazing! Would definitely give some of their other cakes a go in future!
Mmmmm was craving good icecream and since we were in the area we had to swing by messina. Smaller joint then the collingwood one, few tables oitside but thats it. Lil hard to see the icecream flavours with the crowd so wasnt until you get served that you were able to see whats on offer.
We had recommendatoon to try the salted caramel from a waitress at hawker hall so we figured lets just get a .5lt tub takeaway. So along w salted carame which was divine.. good amount of saltiness and sweetness. I also got the coconut lychee which was subtle but so creamy! And then the Dulche de leche which was similar to salted caramel actually but lighter..
Overall was good night. Service was a letdown though, quick to dismiss you and didnt really offer any suggestion. We asked to try a flavour and whislt we were thinking he served someone else - literally 5sec!!? He was still holding onto our .5lt tub also. Then someone else served us and she went to grab another tub... hrmm... lucky the icecream was good!

Messina has the best gelato/icecream in Melbourne! (In my opinion). This time I chose my all time favourite flavour: white choc hazelnut as well as a newbie: strawberries & cream. The strawberries & cream was delightful! Exactly how you’d think it would taste but better. The specials that they’re currently offering are all so creative. As the weather starts to warm up again Messina is exactly where I’ll be!
It is certainly one of my favourite place. I heart pistachio and fondant individually. This place is neat and sombre. So many flavours to choose from, which makes it all the more hard to decide. It's reasonable for a scoop and the service is quite generous with the quantity.
If you are a fan of gelato, you have to try Messina!
There are so many amazing flavours on offer and I love that you can taste test them prior to ordering. The daily specials are also great to keep the options interesting.
One of my go to favourite flavours is bounty - so refreshing.
Seriously ah-mazing flavour combinations here. Takes icecream to the next level. Can get busy, which I prefer to avoid because it's a bit of a push and shive to be served. Like a mosh pit.
Great to find a Gelato place that does vegan options! And there was a variety of choices which was nice. I got the coconut almond Gelato and it was delicious! The staff member that served me was so lovely and helpful with explaining each of the options to me, allowing me to taste test a couple to help me decide which one I wanted. Will definitely come back to this chain again for an after dinner treat or a guilty pleasure on one of the warm summer days!
Finally ticked off the last Messina shop on my list. This one is much smaller in size compared to the shop in Fitzroy and also Richmond, so be prepare to queue, and maybe sneakily squeezed your way through the crowds, during peak hours. Service is consistent throughout all 3 shops - charming, casual and well-organised. It also goes without saying that the gelati is consistently delicious, and very smooth and creamy. I always try to order a flavour on the special board and as usual, it did not disappoint. The Red Wedding (red velvet gelato) was amazing. Very generous with the add-in of cheesecake and cake batter, a bit too generous perhaps, but delicious nonetheless.
Coconut and lychee gelato is always my first choice every time I drop by here. This shop is my all year round favourite destination. However, it can be really packed or the queue is super long during weekends
Points for: awesome & inventive gelato flavours
One of, if not the best gelato in Melbourne. The regular flavours are so unique yet work really well, and they always have 3 or 4 special seasonal flavours.
Incredibly busy during the summer, and also during peak Fri/Sat nights due to the location on Chapel Street, it's good any time of the day.
Seriously, you can't go wrong with any of the flavours, just go enjoy yourself!
Watch out for their Asian concoctions during the Night Noodle Market!
It was so crowded on the Friday night that we went! But service is always top notch and they’re always catering to your needs. Nothing better than great ice cream with friendly staff serving it! 🙌🏻 Definitely try the pistachio and chocolate fondant flavours!
LIT!: such happy vibes as soon as you walk into Messina. This place is always pumping and the icecream look and taste amazing. My loveee the apple pie and all their sorbets!
NOT SO LIT: if you don't like Messina, something is wrong with you.
Always have a room for a gelato / ice cream, that would be our "tummy" rules.
We've decided to go to Gelato Messina after having dinner around South Yarra area.
It was very easy to find this gelato shop because of its strategic location. You can go there by car (plenty of street carpark) or by public transport (tram).
It was pretty late around 8ish pm when we arrived there, it was still busy at that time.
Messina offers a variety of gelato flavours.
On the left fridge they have options of fresh and bit sour taste of gelato such as, passion fruit, raspberry, mango, blood orange etc;
On the right hand side they have variety of options of sweet gelato such as, tiramisu, coffee, macadamia crunch, fondant etc.
We couldn't decide on the spot as we were actually full but still want to finish the day by having perfect gelato for us.
The customer staffs were so friendly and patiently offered us to try few different gelatos.
In the end, we ordered a tiny cup of Nicky's glasses *coffee and salted caramel gelato with whipped cream* for $4.00 and a scoop of ice cream in a cone of Chocolate Chip *light cocoa gelato with chocolate chips* for $4.80.
We loved both gelatos and couldn't decide who was the winner on that day.
Both of them had great quality with reasonable price and generous portion.
(Nicky's glasses) Perfect blended and balance between coffee and salted caramel, the taste was brilliant. It had really rich taste, perfect texture and smooth.
For a coffee lover it's definitely your favourite (Chocolate Chip).
Generous chocolate chips inside the ice cream, the taste was creamy and rich taste but not too sweet.
Recommended Gelato shop, perfect place to indulge yourself.

Gelato Messina
LOVE LOVE LOVE their Ice cream!
Amazing quality- can really taste that they have put a lot of effort into perfecting the flavours!
Mango, pistachio and chocolate are definitely must haves!
Looking forward to coming back in the longer, warmer days!
Thanks! Ice cream of Melbourne🍦x
Great product driven by great ingredients. Messina has cemented itself as the best gelato in Australia. You can tell that it's a labour of love, given how long they have been doing this for and how often the menu changes and the consistency in the quality.
Sensational ice cream right here!! Disappointed I forgot a photo, it was all gone before I remembered, oops!
Loved the shop ambience it was like going into a dimmed lit wine bar but u were choosing ice cream flavours not wine! Which made it so different from other cold ice cream stores. Loved the old school menu boards!
Really enjoyed the "honey I burnt the kids" one & apple pie one. Perfect amount (2scoops) will certainly be back here!! With photos next time!!
I went here with some of the people that I went to Mr Miyagi with. I tried the caramelised fig and something else flavour and the apple pie flavour. I really liked the apple pie flavour so I ordered one scoop of that. As a previous reviewer said it really does taste like apple pie, it even had a couple of chunks of the pastry. The ice cream also had a nice smooth texture. In the past I wasn't really impressed with Gelato Messina (in fact I thought they were really overrated) but after tonight I can see why people dig It. You just need to be careful what you order. The lady working here was friendly enough.
Very delicious ice cream with many flavours to choose from. They will let you try many flavours. The apple pie flavour tastes like real apple pie!
Gelato Messina where do I start? So many flavours to choose from '40' to be precise. The ice cream is sliky and soft you can see in the texture. Flavours are spot on with the chunky bits its more than perfect
The best Gelato in Melbourne. At par with that of Italy, the amazing texture and variety of fun flavours, Messina is immersed within a great atmosphere and is the one stop heaven for gelato lovers.
Always really nice flavours, love that they're not fussy about you testing a few before you buy! I probably still like cold rock better just cause you can chose your own items :)
Been here a couple times and the gelato is always so great! I love their limited edition flavours as there's always something different to try each week. Staff is always friendly and bubbly. I recently tried their limited edition milk tea pandan gelato which was amazing. I hope Messina releases more Asian flavours in the future.
Never have I raved about an ice cream shop until Messina. Often I'll grab 2 scoops (1 is not enough but 3 feels too sinful hahaha) when I visit which usually includes Macadamia Crunch, my ALL TIME FAVE on the fixed menu! Also, the Specials are a bonus! I am always looking forward to those creative recipes so I keep myself updated by following them on insta. Hahaha. Basically Messina has a diverse range of interesting, unique and delicious flavours and I recommend everyone to try it! The prices are reasonable and they are not stingy with the size of the scoop!
(picture was from May 2016, really miss those special flavours!)
Had to try it despite it being a cold night! Flavoursome gelato, without tasting artificial. Very refreshing and wasn't too busy when I came. Service wasn't the friendliest.
Messina sells great ice cream for those who just want something simple yet extraordinary for dessert.
Decently priced, Messinas provides a variety of flavours from sorbets to monthly new flavours.
Staff are friendly and aren't stingy when it comes to customers wanting to try many flavours before they're happy with their choice.
Take your lover, friends and family here for great ice cream.
One of the best gelato I've ever had. We cannot stop after the first taste. I especially like chocolate and tiramisu flavour. The sorbet are also beautiful.
Nothing at all to complain about here! The ice cream is delicious, one of the best ice cream stores in Melbourne! A perfect mix of innovative new flavours and traditional ones, this place has something for everyone.
The best gelato joint I've ever been to. My partner has always been a fan and although I protested (thinking about my waistline) I've since given in and can see why it gets such high graces. Fantastic array of flavours - creamy, rich and decadent. The rotating specials menu never disappoints and is always a crowd pleaser. If you're having dinner alone Chapel St, do not be deterred by the crowd. Instead join them (if you've skipped dessert) because you will not be disappointed. I opt for dairy free, vegan options whenever possible and the almond milk gelato here is sensational. Also the chocolate sorbet is dark and rich without being too sickly sweet. Two thumbs up.
Favourite gelato place! 🙌🏼 I don't even like gelato to begin with but I find myself enjoying their gelato and sorbet - I guess mainly because it's not sickly sweet but packed with actual flavour. This was their special two weekends ago - matcha maker (with roasted pistachio and choc fudge!); and coffee underneath. I've always liked their coconut lychee and coconut pandan too. 😊
The best gelato joint I've ever been, on top of the regular flavors, they have special flavors. Always queue in the shop but worth to wait. This gelato joint location is in the middle of brunch restaurants in Chapel St. So after you finish your brunch, this gelato is definitely a must try.
Just having finished brunch, I decided I wanted and craved ice cream and I love GM. On this occasion I got the fondant and the coconut/almond iceCREAM!
First, eyeing off the fondant being perfect and shiny I had to try it and what a great decision. Sublime creamy consistency of milk and chocolate. A great option if you love luscious chocolate ice cream.
Secondly with regards to the coconut and almond ice cream. This was a good ice cream, having bits of broken almonds made it a surprisingly gritty/crunchy texture which I did like. The coconut flavour was negligible but was still apparent.
I have to admit, the coconut (fusion) was delicious but I was lucky ordering the fondant but that surpassed it by far.
All in all, so many exquisite flavours to pick from. A great and perfect way to stop the ice cream cravings ☺️🍦
Bloody delicious vegan options. The salted coconut and mango is my favourite! A bit too expensive to buy a tub for home which stops me coming here as much as I would like to. Lovely and extremelly helpful staff are wonderful. Limited seats make it a bit hard sometime but when its warm its nice to walk with the ice cream/sorbet.
Love Gelato Messina!! I love the standard flavours - coffee is sensational - and I always love trying their new flavours! The Hot Cross Bun gelato is a stroke of Genius! These guys know what they are doing! The staff are always incredibly friendly and let you try as many flavours as you like! And as of yesterday THEY NOW ACCEPT EFTPOS!! This is a game changer- amazing for me and totally terrible for my waistline!
The gelato is not bad but not as good as how people have described. One thing I don't really like is the loud music of the store, the music is as loud as a club, feeling exhausted to scream while making order
Yum like yum yum. Gelato messina always hits the point and the rotating specials are always deelish. Continued to come back and back. If you want gelato check them

5***** hands down best Gelato as always!
Generous portions - speaking of chunky bits and pieces in the Gelato (apart from price inflations) & creativity.
Last Saturday night I went and it was obviously a busy night, we are so looking forward to that JD smoke chocolate and we are lucky enough to not missed out. Was very impressed in the consistency of quality and service - Staffs are exhausted but they are still trying their best to cater the crowd - they are humans too!
Love the creativity of Messina, always bringing different combinations to keep us coming back and, the chefs have obviously been thoughtful enough to taste them before bringing them on the table, no unnecessary gimmicky elements eg: matcha crumbs, lemon curd type of crap to go on a simple classic Gelato 👍🏻 5 stars you deserves it!

Same great icecream and gelati as the other parts of the messina empire. This time we tried the passion fruit and mango gelati, coconut and lychee gelati, bounty icecream and apple pie icecream.
Although I'm not quite the sweet tooth, I do have cravings for ice cream once in a while. The place is bustling with people, and I know why now! There are so many flavours to choose from, I tried the tiramisu which was nice and not overly sweet. Would come back to try one of the fruity/tangy flavours !
I love ice cream and am a big fan of Gelato Messina. I could have given a 5 score except last time when I ordered an ice cream with a cone. The cone was not crispy as usual, seemed like being there for a while. Other than that Messina is great.
I used to go to Fiztory for their gelato. so glad they opened on chapel street. lots of flavors to choose from and all taste good. my duaghter loves it too!
Maybe we went at an off-peak time, but Messina was quite quiet and we were the only customers. After trying a multitude of flavours, we settled on a two scoop waffle cone featuring the asianesque flavours of Pandan with Coconut, and Coconut with Lychee.
The coconut with lychee would be my new fav. The problem with fruity gelato is that they tend to taste like a mouthful of artificially sweet, food flavouring - Messina was nothing like that. The lychee was so refreshing, fruity and flavoursome, it literally tasted like the juice of lychee had been squeezed into making the gelato. The pandan was also quite representative of the classic southeast asian flavour, found in a multitude of asian desserts. The coconut...
Details: So I've been here before and got the blood orange ice cream (yum)... then on the weekend decided to get the coconut and almond..... DELICIOUS!!! Can't believe I didn't go more exotic the first time 😂! If you like nuts then I definitely recommend it. What I love about messina is that you aren't just having basic ice cream, every bite there is some new flavors or ... even some real cake sometimes!
Decor: very lovely decor as well! Really fits into the chapel street cute bar vibe!
Back in the day (aka about three years ago) whenever I was in Sydney for a long weekend I would go to Messina at least twice daily. No trip to Bondi was complete without it and accommodation was booked based on proximity to the Star Casino which also housed a Messina branch. Fast forward to present day and there are now three Messina's dotted around Melbourne. The original store experienced huge lines until we got the second (still huge lines) and finally the third (still huge lines, I'm not even kidding when I say I've actually gotten it delivered before). Now I can almost not imagine a Melbourne without it which is a good thing considering I'm such a regular visitor. Popped in yesterday to the Windsor store after some shopping in Prahran. I had my obligatory scoop of salted coconut and mango which is their finest work in by opinion and I always mix up my second scoop to one of their rotating creatively named flavours which this time was the Robert Brownie Junior a chocolatey base with fudge pieces and (naturally) brownie chunks. It's the very taste of summer
The best ice cream!!! This cute little ice cream shop is located on chapel street. Beautifully decorated shop. So warm and inviting. The selection of ice creams and sorbets are like no other. We need more of these in melbourne. I had vanilla and chocolate chip. Yum!
Ah Messina, the gelati here is superb! I've tried many of the flavours and they have all been delicious. Plenty of flavours to choose from and customer service is great. There are other gelati shops on chapel st but this is by far the best. The only negative is that it's cash only, no biggie but it would be handy to have pay wave just in case I happened to have zero cash on me. Try the mango, lemon, chocolate, coconut & mango, coconut & almond, passionfruit and coffee! I've had them all and they're all divine.

I have an addiction and I'm not afraid to admit it. Despite always being busy. Gelato Messina is always a worthwhile snack stop. Apple pie is my favourite of the standard flavours but I always want to try a new special just about every week. Can't stop.
Delicious ice cream! I've tried around 10 flavors so far and one is better than the last. They're all so good.
Amazing flavours with both unique and traditional options. The first Pistachio gelato that actually tasted like Pistachios and was flavourful - it is amazing and now my go to.
Their Crack pie ice cream was bomb and I ended up making some Crack pie because I couldn't get over how good it was - it was a limited time flavour.
I've tried 4 different flavours now, the Gayinetta Hot Tub as well as 3 of the Greatest Hits and they are hands down the best ice cream I've ever tasted. Can't wait to try more. Absolutely delicious!!
fantastic! ice cream is the best here. often have a line here wherever it cold winter nights or summer nights is lots of people and definitely hard to decide what ice cream to get. always the best . delicious 😋😋
Service was quick which is a positive but the staff member looked like she didn't want to be at work. The icecream was very delicious;

You can't help but love Messina. Their unique flavour combinations are so well thought out. You can't get gelato like it anywhere in Melbourne. Never a disappointment!
I used to come here when to first opened 5 or so years ago; then I moved away. . This was the last thing I ate the night before my wedding (unbeknownst to me, my soon-to-be-wife also came here the same night). Just visited today and it's still amazing.
