Review Story So Far - Melbourne

Story So Far, Melbourne, VIC, Australia ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is a little cafe during the day and next door there is a pizza and wine bar by night. A cute little neighbourhood gem, they only offer a handful of pizzas (only 3 of 5 available today) and a few different wine. No fuss kinda place and it's busy with locals either sitting in or picking up. I like the feel of this place, very chilled vibe. Free sparkling water which is a plus and the rose they have by the bottle is from Provence, it's delicious and only $36. What a steal! Pizzas (pineapple and margarita) were both yummy and hit the spot. Delicious crust. will definitely come back as we're around the corner, would love a bit more variety of the pizzas / offering but I get why they stick to what works and a small menu.

Such a great little gem. Went here to pick up a few coffees and some pastries. Everything was great. Quick, chirpy and prompt service. Despite the busyness of the shop, there was not a long wait.

Great coffee and the pizza is even better.. one of the best I’ve had! The owner is lovely too, highly recommend this place. I’ll be back!

Katherine and Ken were amazingly friendly and the food was absolutely delicious, as was the drink. Atmosphere was great and the only thing I could even think to fault them for was that they were a little too popular on the night. If you have bar/kitchen/cafe experience, please head in and give them a hand to fulfil the many many orders I will be placing.

The coffee I had was pretty average. The person who made it was lovely. The location is very convenient if you are walking around the botanic gardens.

It was absolutely an awesome place, I tried the avogato drink, which I rarely see it as an option in Melbourne. I also tried the almond croissant, it was alright I guess. But the coffee was actually pretty good. I also loved the outdoor area, it has a view to the st Kilda garden. I definitely recommend it

This is such a great little coffee shop. I came across as I was doing my daily morning walk. It's right next to the Quest hotel so you can't miss it. It's great to go walking with a coffee in your hand early morning.

Greatest coffee spot and bar in the neighbourhood! The team are always on point , with smiles and service. This innovative space combines exceptional coffee (and the best fresh Chai in Melbourne!) , great bites and a fantastic curated selection of vino, beers and spirits. Check this gem out - it won’t disappoint !

To be fair, their coffee bean is really good but service is up and down. It can be quite rude sometime.Charged a small size coffee for a large price as they run out of large cups is hard to understand. Probably won’t my first choice in the future.

Wonderful coffee. Exceptionally cute cups. Terrible service. One of the barista is quite rude to every Asian customer that walks in. I find that quite irritating.

I picked up a hot beverage from here this morning and not only was that impressive the stunning artwork on the cup was so visually delightful it made me want to break up with keep cups! Definitely brightened my day

I buy my lunch here most days. Visited today and without warning one of the staff was totally aggressive and rude to me in front of another customer and staff. I am a polite and well mannered person (my opinion admittedly) who has never been spoken to like this in my long life. Totally offended and upset by what happened today.
On a lighter note if anyone is familiar with Seinfeld - suggest you don't order the soup.

Called past Story So Far this morning on my way to a 10am meeting. A tiny narrow cafe with plenty of soul and a wall of wine. Stylish coffee machine produced a damn near perfect latte. It would have been perfect had the tide not been out a little too far on my take away. They had pre made rolls for lunch but generally only sweet danishes, slices and cookies so I assume the place mostly caters to the grab and go clients. There was also quite a comprehensive spirits collection suggesting this might be a nice spot for an after work drink. A few tables inside but a heap more outside just waiting for those sunny sunny days.

I’ve yet to try the food here, however the coffee is nicely made. The colourful takeaway cups are fun and prices reasonable. I like their non-milk offerings, including coconut milk, soy, almond etc.

The story so far is ... promising.

Yes, the wait was long this morning, it was probably due to their meticulous barista that was operating behind a $33k Visions Kees Van Der Westen Spirit Triplette 3 group ... anyone would be "slower" and spend more time caressing this piece of engineering, just like when driving a performance car like a Porsche 911 Carrera S :-)

The shop is a reflection of what a specialty coffee shop should be; quaint, neat, good looking, defined, muscular (sorry ladies) ... it looks like a genuine credible dispenser of liquid gold that we craves in the morning ... midday and afternoon.
By the number of wine bottles and other hard liquor, this place dabbled as an after hour place to hang out ... packed with vino ... perfect happy hours.

There are some sweets and pastries on offer too.

I was satisfied with that $4.00 small latte, it was well made and has characters, this place is definitely promising ... so far. Looking for a quick caffeine shot before I head to meet my chiropractor, my eyes spied a slightly obscure small and cosy-looking cafe opposite where I parked. Walking in, we noticed that it was a wine bar/shop slash cafe. Bottle of wines lined one side of the wall and filled up the fridge in the back, while the barista counter occupied the other side of the shop. What's left is space for seating. The ambiance is more suited for a glass of vino then a cup of joe - dark, moody and intimate.

Unfortunately, the story so far for this review isn't heading for a fairytale ending. There's really nothing going for this cafe, other than the chiles and relaxed ambiance, or for its convenience to grab both a coffee and wine to go.

Our skinny lattes were much too milky, and lacking strength and character. The only thing worth commenting was that the temperature was just right. The range of food did not excite us - a smattering of pastries, breads, cookies and sandwiches. We did however ordered a Portuguese tart and a peanut butter cookie to go with our coffee. Couldn't fault the cookie but the tart was limp and soggy.

There was only one girl behind the counter, and she seemed quite overwhelmed when there was more than 1 customer. Maybe a helping hand to speed things up and smoothen the flow?

This small espresso/wine bar tucked away in Southbank was such a cosy find. The warm lighting reflecting off the floor-to-ceiling wall of wine bottles with the sweet smell of coffee and fresh pastries was like a hug on this miserable, rainy morning. Service was welcoming and friendly. Despite a morning rush, my soy latte w/ 1 was made promptly and tasted delicious; I flicked through their newspaper while I waited. The floral printed cup was a very cute touch. Would definitely revisit if I pass through the area again!

Would avoid at all costs. Coffee was mediocre at best and staff seemed totally disengaged. Is this place a cafe, bottle shop or take away coffee stand ?

Absolutely disgraceful service - I was shocked this morning when I came in to order coffee and got completely ignored by the Asian waitress - she was too busy pouring milk in the machine and doing whatever else more important to even say hi or acknowledge either myself or lady in line after me. Owner of the place is also too busy making coffees and chatting to his mates to see what his staff is doing. After almost 7 minutes of waiting (still nothing from the waitress) I just left because this is a joke.
Shame this place is so close to my office but I won't be back and I'll strongly suggest everyone at work to avoid it.

What a great find on my accidental walking tour of South Melbourne. Great smell of coffee and chocolate. Has a great vibe and if I buy a place close by will be regular for me.
Robert
The place is not bad, but they change staff so often and the taste of our coffee pretty much depends on who happens to make it. Nice cookie though.

Very disappointing. Have had a few ok coffees here but this morning was awful. Asked for a skinny cap. Got a latte. Tasked them to make it again but all they did was add some choc to make it a cap. Tasted ordinary. Annoyed and won't be going back.

If liquor land started serving coffee, it'd be called 'story so far'. Caitlyn Jennner is less confused than this cafe/bottle-o, difference is she can probably make decent coffee..

Love this place work around the corner and can't start my day with out a visit. There is no need to ask where someone from my team is going on a coffee run because the answer is always 'Story'. Great wine selection as well and if your not quite sure on what to get Ken will always point you towards a great bottle.
Hungry Caterpillar
This place makes decent hot chocolate compared to other cafes on Dorcas Street. The chocolate powder is heated up with the milk.
Their coffee is a hit and miss so I wouldn't bother trying.

I'd been told the cofffee was fantastic so i was eager to try. However each coffee i've had here and i've tried three times has been stale, bitter and tasted like burnt beans...A long black is pretty hard to mess up in my opinion, great venue and decor, but the the coffee literally leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

A funky little wine bar with a mezzanine, coffee and desserts. First coffee I had was fantastic, but the coffees I've had in recent weeks aren't as good, I guess it depends which barista you get. The girl with the tatts has a bit of an attitude problem. The little selection of pastries (chocolate croissants) are great.

This is one interesting business - part wine bar and part coffee shop. It is very tight inside but has a cosy feel. If you are game you can go up the spiral staircase to the mezzanine seating area. Just don't be over weight. It is a really tight climb. The coffee is great if you dine in but it is a little less impressive when take away. They have some outstanding donuts and muffins most mornings. They are awesome and well worth the $5. Definitely worth a visit for a good coffee or nice beer or wine in the evening or after work.

Best coffee around if made by the right barista. They have transformed the shop for the since taking over.
Always friendly service and they tend to remember regulars.

Love the coffee and friendly service here!

Fantastic coffee everytime. They take there time making sure each coffee is consistent but it is well worth the wait!

Not impressed with the service. Ordered 1 small f/w & 1 double espresso takeaway.
Male barista asked if I wanted lids, I said yes quite loudly, he didn't hear, asked me again so I said yes please.
When he passed them to me I said thank you and he didn't say anything back.

After I got into the car I took a sip of my f/w and tasted the instant sweetness, there was sugar in it which I never asked for.
$4 a small coffee is not cheap in Melbourne and I could only have half of it. I was already in the car leaving and there was a line in the shop didn't want to waste my time.
I guess when you have a lot of customers you stop giving good customer service.

Wonderful coffee venue. Excellent coffee place in a surprisingly remote area of Melbourne. The wine selection isn't bad either :)

Quality coffee, Cosy atmosphere. Story So Far serves quality coffee, with no pretentiousness whatsoever.

Living proof that exceptional coffee CAN in fact be produced by a Barista not sporting a a tragic Ned Kelly beard.

At SSF they are passionate about their coffee (and wine), and because it is also a 'bottle shop' it's open a little longer than you would expect. Huzzah!

Do yourself a favour, if you are in the area - check it out.

Brilliant Coffee. But Try the Hot Chocolate!. "Wine, women and song" isn't the right phrase for this place. Story So Far. Is more Wine, passionate coffee and conversation.

Perhaps the best coffee fix in South Melbourne.

A hidden gem in a stale coffee area. Perfect specialty coffee every time made loving on a Spirit machine. Beautiful pastries and friendly staff. Big thumbs up.
