Review Sumosalad - Melbourne

Ian Woodruff
GETS FOUR STARS FOR HEALTHY OPTIONS Its a takeway outlet at QV on the ground floor. Many salad options to choose from (some with meat as well). Reasonable serving size. The food court seating in this area is a bit down market and its a very busy thoroughfare so if I am buying from Sumo , I tend to take the food away rather than sit down and eat there. Sumo is a chain with other stores in Melbourne CBD.. all very similar quality

Looks great but isn't. Tastes terrible and you quickly realise everything has poor quality ingredients, the chicken doesn't even taste like chicken. Best avoided.

While the service was great, the food wasn't up to par today. I ordered the Lentil & Vegetable Salad for takeaway and am truly disappointed. Even though it smelled amazing, when I had a taste, it was unbearably sour. I'm not even a third through it now, and my throat is already hurting. I'm not really sure why it's so sour, and hope the team can improve on this. Over the years, their salads have been a hit and miss for me, and after this experience, I'm not sure if I'll be going back.

Giving it 3 stars, could have given 4 stars also as I generally like healthy salad places like this one. It is mainly due to location as it is quite close to the entrance. Also, there are birds in this food court and I have noticed quite a few times and places in the city in general birds at times poking into the food bowls when they are left open.

Ordered Asian chilli chicken salad in large size. It had exactly four strips of chicken of small bite size. Bigger lettuce leaves (uneasy to eat) made most of the salad. All for $12.95! Being my first time (and last), they didn't even explain the options of other add-ons like lentils, chick peas etc. The Mediterranean joint in QV was way better.

The best sumo salad store in the cbd. I buy/eat from this store regularly and the salads are always fresh and customer service is friendly and efficient. A bit pricey, but worth it if you choose the right salads. Only reason it isn't getting a full 5 stars is because proportions on the deli salads differ depending on who you're being served by. Some staff fill the container generously to the top and make sure you get a good mixture of everything from the salad you choose, others will barely fill the container and only give you the flimsy parts of the salad (the cheapest parts); I once asked for a small container of the corn cobb salad and it was 80% lettuce with barely of the other ingredients in it AND the server gave me the wrong dressing. Other that one unfortunate experience, the service and salads here are usually consistently good and tasty. Would recommend.

Ordered chicken salad and what I see is big pieces of lettuce and other leaves, are we paying that kind of prices for just leaves?. Display behind the glass is very attractive but when we order, what we get is leaves

I saw rats in this shop!! Unreliable and unhygienic! I've been a regular customer but now no more! Moreover, why would I pay $10.50 For poor quality salad and barely leaves when I can get much reliable products from Coles and Woolies

Huge portions of meat and greens in the Green Goddess grain bowl. Ingredients seemed fresh and yummy. Qv centre place was easy to find and get to. Great lunch place. Brought back heaps for the office.

The best way eat healthy is to have freshly made salad. Another thing is, it should be within our budget. And both these things are fulfilled by sumo salad. They have variety of option of salad choose from and they also provide with different soup each day. The salad are damn tasty and my favourite one is pesto chicken and walnut salad.
Good Food Good Mood
Not a bad healthy meal got to choose three salads and went for miso salmon, sesame chicken and chargrilled cauliflower. They tasted quite fresh and were sufficiently enjoyable, for a salad anyway

Sumo is a anothee salad place in QV food court. So many options! I like it that we can choose 3 salads in one box. I had creamy basil, pumpkin & beetroot salad and pesto chicken. Overall it was a good meal.

Lots of vegan choices with sufficient proteins from lentils And edamame beans. Very fresh and tasty salads but need lots of time to chew. A large decent meal with two choices for less than $10.
Good to see this place at most food courts.
It was my first time eating at sumo Salad and it was quite average. I ordered the hokkien noodles which was mixed with a generous serving of vegetables. Staff were friendly and kind and asked if i wanted my noodles warmed up which I never knew was an option. However I found the noodle salad lacked flavour. I will definitely be back to try some of their other salads.

I don’t often order salad as a meal, for the reason that it doesn’t fill me up enough, but this time I thought I’d give Sumo Salad a go.

They’ve got quite a large selection of salads. Their deal came with a soup, and up to 3 salads that you can choose from. They were able to heat up a part of the quinoa and chickpea salad for me, which was pretty good. I did enjoy the Thai Green chicken curry soup. Although it didn’t taste authentic, it was quite comforting and not spicy. Flavour was pretty good too. Overall, I found it very filling, salad quantity is big and the soup compliments the salad really well!

The deli salad is usually nice but when I had this Grilled beef & haloumi salad, the haloumi salad was missing, and the dressing was too much and too sour.
Gee
I wasn’t expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Had the cauliflower salad which was a little bland and the walnut and feta salad which had a nice (and I’m guessing not particularly healthy), sauce drizzled all over it. I reckon I’d do it again!

Points for: nice selection of salads, newly rennovated

Great option if you're trying to eat well - their salads are freshly made every day and there are interesting options. I always like the chicken avocado, and pumpkin/fetta - you can always choose multiple salads for your container.
Never ordered anything off the menu though, it seems a little confusing - too many options, my brain hurts.

I have always like Sumo Salad since it provides one with healthy options. I love that you can mix and match and eat without a nagging guilt. They also have soup and drinks so you have extended options. In QV, you can order and sit in your chosen corner and just enjoy your meal.

Have to say it's expensive, but the salads worth the price. Summer is a season for salad, if you have no appetite for main courses, it's a good choice to grab salads.

I ate here because I bought a coupon online a while back. Wanted to see if it was any good, being marketed heaps and new. I'm sorry to say but the salads were and are overpriced for the quantity and quality. I can make my own salad that's better than this. I would not recommend.
P.S. Have heard from a friend who knew someone who works at Sumo Salad, they said its not very fresh.

So expensive for what you get! I ordered before I realised the price, as it wasn't marked on the counter, and was frankly shocked. I could have bought enough veggies for at least a weeks worth of home cooking for the price I paid for a medium green salad (which contained nothing but snow peas, broccoli and almonds and cost $8.50). It's an absolute shame that when you're trying to eat really healthy in the go it's too expensive to afford!

Their selection of a-la-carte salads and make your own will blow you away. A few of my personal favorites:
1. Chicken Caesar Salad - Gorgeous.
2. Spicy chicken salad - Tasty and yum.
3. Pumpkin pine nut - Yummy.

I see they have revamped the menu from previous years!
Affordable and reasonable.

How useless!!! Stood there for 10 minutes while the 2 staff members briefly glanced at me and then continued to ignore me! And such expensive prices for tiny wilted salad! Will NEVER be back

Voucher rip off. Someone gave me a voucher so I decided to try the Large Sumo bowl. Turned out that the voucher was only valid for a select few kinds of salads & only for medium size. The waiter who took my order didn't bother telling me this when I first showed my voucher and chose my salad. Only found out when I paid, by then it was too late to do anything (except to give them a bad review) but pay full price. What a rip off. The spicy chicken salad was a bit wet & not very tasty. Will definitely stay away.
