Can’t complain. Delightful. Quick service... actually you know what the chef even delivered to my table with smile and when I asked for aioli they didn’t even hesitate to bring within 1 minute plus it was free. Delish

Who doesn't like a good parma? This place certainly delivers a nice fresh breast with delicate crispy crumbs. Will return just for that. Everything else on the menu looked good and as I sat in the beer garden, soaked up all that Melbourne has to offer, I tried a couple of different wines from the list which were very good.
Staff are very helfpul and seem to enjoy working here.
Portion sizes good. Dietaries catered for. Prices are reasonable.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram/stroller accessible. Parking is as you'd expect, can sometimes be challenging.
Been there several times and tried the chicken, beef, and lamb burgers. The chicken burger is hands down the best! Comes with a thick chunky piece of fried chicken, a good amount of coleslaw inside the burger, and fresh bread outside.
Dropped in here for a Friday afternoon tipple! I was met with the most friendliest greeting from a lovely bartender/lady.
Great music playing, this pub is warm and inviting and just perfect on a sunny afternoon.
I tried a Yarra Hotel Pale Ale which was really good and recommended. It was kind of fruity and it went down too well hahaha. I love the fact that some pubs are making their own brews now. And for $10 for a pint I'm happy w that.
Happy Friday everyone ... yahoo bring on the weekend.
Warm, unpretentious pub. Good vibe, staff are friendly. Good hearty food. Half price locals veggie night Mon & Tues rock. The gnocchi is the BEST. Eggplant chips are always super yummy. Tonight had the shepards pie, which was a bit top heavy with potato (needed more lentils) but otherwise good & my partner enjoyed the kofta, particularly the ratatouille bit. Their standard potato chips could be better - if they were crinkle or something to add interest. Lots of Roo options, big thumbs up. Great local all up.
Good old fashioned pub , nice beer garden area to enjoy. Plenty of options on ‘tap’ from local micro breweries to the mainstream. Good prices and value for money , give it a go , it will not disappoint.
Came here for drinks with friends who ordered the gnocchi, was apparently delicious! The drinks were very reasonably price and the service was awesome. The place has a great feel to it with lots of seating and a huge outdoor fire place!
Best part- dogs were allowed inside, couldn't make my night any better :)
The 1/2 price veggie meals on a Mon/Tues night were fantastic!
Absolutely surprised at the high quality of the meals.
The gnocchi was great and the sweet potato and rice was awesome.
Will definitely be back.
Holly Cow! This is some seriously good gnocchi! Who would believe that some of the freshest gnocchi is at a pub. Not the easiest pasta to pull off! Great beer garden is a little bonus.
Went here for a Sunday session in the beer garden and enjoyed some cheap drinks with friends. Ordered a mid-afternoon Parma (was initially hesitant as its a little pricey but was convinced by a friend who has been before), which was beautiful! Huge size, crunchy on the outside, yum grilled cheese - ah yes, everyone's winner recipe!
They also had a cracking outdoor woodfire in The beer garden which kept everyone happy in the cold conditions! Great experience that id recommend to others who, like us, aren't exactly close to Abbotsford!
Really loved this place. The food was awesome with plenty of vego options and the beer garden was grouse with a HUGE open fireplace!
Father and I ordered the house made gnocchi with wild mushrooms and white wine cream sauce, and Suzy ordered the Parma.
The gnocchi! Yum yum yummm! I think the wild mushrooms were only the sprinkled long skinny ones on top; however the gnocchi was pan fried crunchy on the outside, soft fluffy and hot on the inside, cream sauce not too creamy or too much, plenty of other mushrooms cooked amongst. As much as I'd like to try their other vego dishes, I would probably order this again and again. This is my perfect pub meal. I would like some greenery introduced such as baby spinach or rocket, but still mighty happy! Father agreed too.
Although being vego I quite enjoy reading @parmadaze reviews of parmas and theirs wasn't the greatest of The Yarra's a few years ago. I think this pub have definitely changed because it was huge, properly panko crumbed and not 'retro 80's battered'. It looked very good from my angle *for meat* and could've fed two! Chips were nice and salty and dressed garden salad also good.
Bar man was nice, all three meals came out together and hot, good old music playing on vinyl with a blaring gigantic open fire? I wish this was my local! It was a quiet Monday night but still, Cheers guys! Will def be back :)
One of the best beer gardens in Melbourne. Burgers were tasty & really hit the spot. We looked in on the band that was playing and ended up staying to watch.
The real draw card is the live music. If you live in the area (even if you don't) it's good to support local musicians. The only complaint I have with the food is the parma was on top of the chips. It's really annoying and made all the chips soggy.
Fantastic venue that is a huge supporter of live music. Friendly staff. Great courtyard. If only they could pull their britches up to the same level with the food. I hope they are on the right track - they recently changed their menu, which included some oddities like prawns with avocado and red rice (awful) along with more standard fare. Last time we visited I had overcooked fish, although hubby was pretty happy with his sausages and mash. Regardless, still an awesome pub to visit - if only for the drinks and tunes.
Love love love!. Sweet potato chips don't sound that exciting but they are insane at the Yarra!! Love the food and atmosphere here. There are outdoor heaters in winter as well as a crackling fire place.
Bloody awesome!. Food was delicious! Staff are friendly and inviting, and a lovely country pub style outdoor area for meals and drinks. Definitely recommend!
Great beer garden. Sitting with your back to a roaring fire on a cold wet winters day, whiskey in hand listening to the blues, what more can you honestly ask for in life? Love this pub
The Yarra Hotel is a great little pub tucked away in Abbostsford. Staff are friendly and the venue has an assortment of beers on tap, great beergarden w/heating in winter. Also the food is top notch, affordable and a menu that caters for all. Always fine live music, this pub has it all. A+++
Happy bday Yarra! Great pub, great food, great staff, great bands. Congrats to you.
Best pub in Melbourne?. Amazing pub with real character. Excellent eclectic menu, cosy and great-sounding band room, huge beer garden with a fireplace that's hard to resist in the winter months, pool table and booze. The bar staff are rather sexy, even the one with the weird ginget mullet hair do! You must check it out.
Fantastic, classic old-skool boozer with a delicious and interesting menu based around a retro pub food feel. Lovely bar staff who are more than happy to have a chat, as is the chef who regularly engages with the customers. No pretension and certainly no bull, the Yarra is quickly perfecting the fine line between casual and that little bit extra - it's warm, inviting and friendly, with food that is hearty, comforting, interesting and all under $30, served with attention and enthusiasm. Go there soon!
Its a pub. An interesting layout with a great beer garden heated in winter, with many little rooms and halls in the pub.
Many renovations i assume. The service is friendly, the carlton on tap is cold and crisp though other beers are available.
People tend to forget this is a pub, not a gastro pub, just a nice pub in abbotsford, on the main road. It has live music and the menu compliments this persona well. To add, the menu is simple, yet has variation and the prices reflect the food. The beer battered fish n chips are exactly that, and at 17 odd dollars, are exactly that.
The steak, only one cut was a 23 dollar steak and that is exactly what we got. It arrived promptly, the drinks were bar service, and tables cleared with a smile.
In short, you get what you pay for and that is what we got, perfect grungi inner city inexpensive pub, and if you are a gastro snob, dont go, if you have kids or just want to run from the rain or drink in the beer garden have a quick inexpensive meal, then this place is the job!!
GREAT. As an Abbotsford local Im super excited to be able eat and drink at the Yarra. Food, service and atmosphere is EXCELLENT. Have recommended to everyone.
Really great, old school pub. Staff were attentive and when we asked for recommendations we weren't disappointed. My veal schnitzel was big and delicious, and my friend's steak was cooked perfectly. The enormous fireplace outside, coupled with great comfort food and a wine list that caters for everyone, is what will ensure we come back again very soon.
Wonderful experience. We came here on a Saturday night with a large group of people and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff were very friendly and we did not have to wait long for our meals even though it was a busy night. The beer garden is very spacious, mostly undercover and ideal for both large groups or a few friends. The live music was great and really contributed to the overall friendly, laid back atmosphere.
Will definitely be coming back!
First meal at The Yarra. And what a delightful experience it was. I went on saturday 27.4.13 with 2 friends and their two toddlers. The meals were reasonably priced and the buffalo wings with a blue cheese sauce for only $10 was enough for a full meal rather than the tiny entree I was expecting.
The decor is lovely, lots of interesting pieces hidden in the nooks and crannies and the kids had a ball running around in the back beer garden where we sat. I especially loved the bicycle (see photo) leant against one of the walls.
I will definitely be back whenever I am in Melbourne and really hope the locals will support this great place, which even though extensively renovated, has lost none of it's original charm.
The staff were very friendly and I can't wait to go there in winter and to sit in front of the open fireplace.

I played a gig there with my band the other night and ordered a vegetarian gnocchi dish with zucchini and broccoli. It was honestly one of the most amazing dishes I've ever had in my life. The band room was quite nice, too. A cozy space for a modest crowd. Good for bands AND food lovers!

Old school pub with that same atmosphere. Young cliental. Pool table in front bar with a couple of tables if you going out to eat as well as a beer garden out back. Small menu mostly parmas & burgers. Fast and friendly service. Parking is a problem .... but all up a good place
The menu is really good, something for everyone, great prices ($15 mains), good ol' fashioned pub inside, sweet beer garden outside. I keep coming back, can't fault it. Recently had a cheese burger and veal schnitz- BOTH EXCELLENT! Good staff. Watch AFL on wall next door from be garden (projection) or on tv inside
Was a really fun night good live music venue.
$15 meals all week.
Delicious cider on tap.
Friendly staff behind the bar.
This is a forgotten about pub it seems, but for reasons unknown. Will become a regular of mine!
