Review Area Four - Melbourne

Nunu Bear
Great coffee!!!!!! It was really worth it to visit here today to drink a cup of coffee & omelet w/ tomato, mushroom, feta. Owner was calm and kind. Also, this cafe is little bit small but the atmosphere is epic. Plating is so cute and I like the vintage pattern napkin. Strongly recommend the Ice mocha :)

A hidden gem and a cosy little cafe. Must visit for a cafe lover as they serve a very good coffee. Great ambience and quirky designed cafe with the limited space available

It was also seems like very fine workplace. every workers were working with full smile. I really enjoyed coffee break and i also really enjoyed to spend time reading my book. barista is also very kind. Highly recommended!

Great place to have quick coffee and something to bite before going to cbd. Great owner and remembers my order all the time. Fully recommend it if you are around.

Great coffee. Cosy setting. Friendly and exceptional service. Would love to come back here again.

Ambience Small and cosy cafe with limited seating. Likes Loved the friendly service, the chili scrambled eggs are delectable and the cappuccino robust. Great for a quick bite, since the seating is limited. Dislike Service was a tad bit sluggish, waited quite a bit for the coffee and then the food. But, the food itself more than made up for the slow service. Overall Would definitely recommend and do try the chili scrambled eggs.

Super friendly staff, great coffee and look at the bubbles, perfecto!

Area Four is a cute little cafe in the heart of the city. A nice spot to stop for a coffee and a bite to eat, the service is quick and friendly and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. It gets quite busy and has a high number of takeaway customers.

The food menu is not large, but they have a selection of toasts, eggs and jaffles. We chose to have the green jaffle and the monkey. The savoury jaffle was delicious with it's pesto, spinach, tomato and feta. The monkey usually has banana and Nutella, but they were out of banana, so we substituted strawberry instead. It was amazing and I actually thought that it made a really good toastie.

The coffee is really good and the addition of a Tiny Teddy is a nice touch. Overall, Area Four is a fab cafe if you are in this part of town, and it's a really lovely place to rest up for a while.

Was not impressed although I got good recommendations from friends.
Service today was slow despite only having one other customer other than me.
Jaffle was just okay, the Nutella banana flavor itself was nice but my jaffle was not pressed well. It started to separate just as I cut into it.
Needs improvement. Overall I’ll give a 4/10

Cute little cafe where most of their customers order take out but they do offer simple breakfast dishes including sandwiches and scrambled eggs.

Chili Scramble 4/5 - reasonable price and quite well scrambled. eggs were fluffy and was perfect consistency and not overcooked. Heaps of chili within their eggs, but I think perhaps a bit too much as that was the only thing you can taste and it became quite one note. Good sourdough bread. Definitely a generous portion for the price you pay!

Added salmon for $4. The menu didnt say smoked salmon so I didnt think it was smoked. That being said, nothing special about the salmon. Did add to the dish for sure but again the chili overpowered the dish. Would say it's perfect for the chili lovers.

Also zomato gold member for 1+1. Really reasonable! Thought the addition of the salmon will be included in the dish but they are considered extra sides, which makes sense lol that was my own fault but just a tip!

What a lovely experience! Everything was perfect, could not fault the coffee and when the food was a bit too spicy for me, they immediately offered to make me a new one. It will definitely be a cafe I would become a regular for.

Really good value for your money this is a good place to get a good breakfast to eat. Coffee was also yummy!
Loved this cute little cafe! All food items are very decently priced and food is yum!
The only downside is that food took a long time to come despite being not busy at all.

Area 4 is located along little Bourke street and is a cozy little cafe.. seating is limited and space a bit cramped.. the coffee here is pretty decent and was pretty smooth.. one signature thing that they do here is that they include a little teddy biscuit with their coffees and just makes it a little more special.. they also served up a limited selection of breakfast items.. we had the pizza jaffle and it was a great little accomplishment to the coffee for breakfast.. all in all a good experience probably not that well suited for a dine in experience unless it’s for a small crowd or just by yourself..
Mustard
There is minimal seating at this establishment and it's a wonder how people manage to grab a seat during peak time. Surprisingly they manage to create a simple menu of jaffles and eggs various ways. Unfortunately I was unable to eat here because of how busy it gets (Mustard always eats at reasonable hours) so we rocked up later to grab a coffee.

Coffee is definitely their focus here, rich, creamy and came with a tiny teddy. Why not. A quick look around will tell you that they source their produce from Industry Beans, they haven't disappointed me thus far with their blends.

I'll see if I can pop down for a bite next time but I'd hate to elbow fellow patrons while munching down on some baked eggs or jaffle.
Big Fat Layer
Omg they make perfect coffees even for my barista's standard. I noticed their beans were from Industry Beans (from which I've bought some great Kenya for filter at home), and this espresso blend was definitely the hero of the coffee, well balanced between fresh fruitiness and dark nuttiness. Milk was nicely frothed, too, temperature just right. No bitter aftertaste even cooled down. Haven't had such a top-of-notch coffee for a long time in Melbourne. I guess the barista is from Japan/Korea? Really detail oriented.
Quince And Cheese
Stopped in for a coffee and jaffle breakfast after discovering this place on Liven. The person who took my order neglected to tell me that he wouldn't honour the combo deal price since I was receiving credit back through Liven. Doesn't make a huge difference as it was only about $1.50 in savings, but still frustrating. Was still pretty good value for a CBD cafe. Jaffle wasn't the best I've had as it was a bit dry and could have used more feta. My coffee, on the other hand, was really great. Unsure if I would get food here again but would definitely go back for a drink.

A delightfully little place for all coffee lovers!! Quick service, friendly staff and good value for money products. Tried their jaffles they were fab! Worth a visit! Highly recommended... :)

Best coffee in Melbourne CBD, extensive high quality and thoughtful breakfast menu, very comfortable surroundings, attentive staff. I certainly will recommend to family and friends and return.

Hidden away from the Main
Street, this tiny little coffee shop is an excellent place to grab a flat white
and sit down for a bit or grab one to go. Customer service was top knotch and the staff were very friendly and warm. Area4 will be my goto cafe before heading to work on a daily basis.

Ordered a Mango chutney sandwich today for $8. It wasn’t the best sandwich, some parts were dry. But otherwise I thought it was good value, the place is small, cheap and cheerful so I would be back!
Tinmans Treats
Cosy cafe in Little Bourke Street. Came here for a work catch up. The coffee is very decent and service is friendly quick and efficient. I always give extra marks to places who serve their long black with a small glass of sparkling water. Usually there is a wave but I got lucky this time. In a highly competitive coffee market in this particular area of the CBD this place is one of the better ones.

First time to try Area Four after change name,i think the 4.3 may from previous cafe.
Can I ask Barista that: have you forget to put espresso in my cup?!

Best kept secret in town. Great coffee, delicious well priced food, great ambiance & staff. Don’t spread the word too far! It’s tiny & much loved by local office-workers.

Visited this cute little cafe a couple of times during my stay in Melbourne. Super friendly staff, great coffee, and delicious food. The porridge was my favourite, which tastes even better on a rainy cold day, and also the hummus sourdough was really tasteful. Definitely recommend!!

Had a cold brew during hot afternoon. Was quite packed with people, but service was quick. They served it with a piece of biscuit dipped in chocolate which i think is cute. Coffee was good, although not my favorite. I love the ambience especially with their late 90s playlist in store😅

Love the decor. It's a little small but that's what makes it so intimate and cozy. Best coffee in Melbourne. The food is reasonable priced with most items under $10. I had a Rueben sandwich - delicious, fresh ingredients.

Came here today for a quick coffee. I got a takeaway Long Black, which cost $4.00. I honestly find $4.00 too expensive for a long black but it is what it is. The service was average, nothing special but okay. The coffee wasn't great - too hot to hold (I had to get my gloves out so I could carry it!) and had a slightly bitter taste to it. I didn't get a tiny teddy as some of the previous pictures indicate but Area Four didn't meet my expectations. On a side note- some guys were eating some jaffles at one of the tables and they did look pretty good.
Donna&Shane
We passed by here earlier liked the look of the cafe & menu so had to come back when hungry! Service is very friendly... ordered the banana oat pancakes with fruit and smashed avocado with bacon. Nice coffees too. Saw them making the food in the small space behind counter nice fresh ingredients very appealing. For a healthy not sweet breakfast definitely go for the pancakes ... smashed avocado was just delicious.

My friend emily told me about this place. Its called Area Four now, but only the name has changed. I read a review here on zomato (by carissa vicky) who said the banana bread with butter was amazing, so i wanted to try it. So glad i did! I had it toasted plus spread the butter on it. It was so good! Possibly the best banana bread ive had! The coffee is great too! And i love the vibe of the place! They were playing 50s type music when i was there, so i felt like i was in the Fallout world hehe.. except there was nice pot plants hanging from the ceiling :)
I really like this place :D
Omg and the best.... they give u a tiny teddy with your coffee!!!! Talk about winning me over heheheh

On my first day in Melbourne, I encountered this small Espresso Bar just a minute away from my hotel and because I'm craving coffee so bad (and hungry, of course), I decided to give it a try.

I ordered Ice Coffee, Banana Bread and Croissant for breakfast. It was amazing! I don't really know the taste of croissant since it's my boyfriend who ordered it but he said it is lovely and melts at your mouth. Mine is the banana bread, quite huge in my opinion, and also because where I came from (Jakarta), banana bread usually come in such a small serving. The barista suggested to put a butter on it before he heats it up and I agree because that sounds awesome (I'm a sucker for butter) and boy, it is the right decision. The butter balance the sweetness of the banana bread. It just melts in your mouth. Coffee? Strong without being too strong and leave no trace of acidity, so of course, I like it!

I love my coffee and if someone recommends a cafe to me then I am more than happy to check it out. I have a bucket list of cafe to try and I have to admit I am lucky to live in Melbourne where the choices is never ending. Naked espresso is definitely in the list. First thing foremost, the staff are friendly. The skinny flat white I ordered? Amazing. It sure did tick all the boxes for me. They sure deserved the thumbs up. I highly recommend this place and will surely come back to try their menu.

Amazing cute little coffee shop. Great coffee, really cool music lol

I ordered a piccolo latte and it was spot on! Yummm haha

And they gave me a chocolate teddy which was fun! Definitely going back here.
Pau
Really enjoyed our 2 expressos and 2 flat whites - good Melbourne coffee. Great staff and atmosphere. Small selection of cakes looked nice and other options on the short menu e.g. Jaffles. Small cafe with large window onlooking the street scape, close to Bourke Street Mall but far enough away to steel some quiet..
Gee
Was recommended to check this place out. Really nice staff and the coffee was decent too! Tough competition from brother bada budan down the road though

用别人的咖啡豆做着自己的咖啡,而且做出来的品质非常的高,服务也非常棒,整个心情都被带着明亮了。
great coffee and service, love the chocolate banana bread.

Little bourke seems to be the one stop for great coffee. This one too keeps up the spirit.

It has -
Warm and friendly staff
good coffee
interesting interiors

There is a good feel to the place and you would like to visit it again!
Cheers to good coffee!! :)
Emma
This is honestly one of my favourite go-to places in the CBD on my lunch break. The most simple and yummiest food that takes you back to your childhood with its choice of jaffles. There is always some funky music playing in the background and it is overall a chilled out environment. The place is very cosy and the service is great.
Also if you like yoghurt and muesli then you MUST try the yoghurt & muesli with fruit - it is absolutely delicious and all of the ingredients are super fresh!
Nona Tukang Makan
It was a nice, not overly crowded place to spend some me time before the pilates session.

Opted for the Hot Mocha ($4.60), which was executed in a perfect manner. Like it!

Also love the interesting books provided! They kept me entertained.

Nice service, good coffee, and even better ambiance. Cozy!

Great coffee and lovely service. Love to go to this place for the quality coffee. They have cool yellow cups too. Highly recommend for a coffee stop in the CBD.

This is a gorgeous place for breakfast - if you can get a seat. Great start to the day, Monsters Inc was playing on the projector. Loved the tiny teddies served with coffee. The mushroom omelette was huge with a large side of toast. I could get a seat a little after 9am, but when I left around 9:45 the place was packed!
AH
The chai here is very spicy, which unfortunately made it a touch unbalanced for me! I eventually got used to it and found that there was a nice amount of honey mixed in, as requested. However, given that I prefer my chai a bit milder, I won't be returning any time soon, but this is probably just a personal taste issue.
Lauren Green
Pleasant coffee and a nice spot to people-watch. Love the tiny teddies and old fashioned souvenir teaspoons. The apricot danish was yum too. Staff were friendly.

Great coffees and soy hot chocolate! Small hole in the wall shop, cosy and nice. While we were there enjoying our drinks, patrons kept streaming in!

Great little coffee shop offering excellent toasties and great donuts too. Love the coffee here and go out of me way to grab my morning brew on the way to work. Friendly staff always happy to chat

Come here as my first port of call whenever I'm in the city (except the weekends, haha). Amazingly friendly and personable staff, great food, no card minimum and consistently fantastic coffee. Really love the 'Guest Espresso' differentiator - most of the time they make better coffee with the beans of local roasters than the actual roasters themselves!

Conveniently nestled amongst the quiet city haven that is Little Bourke St, Naked Espresso Bar is a cafe that I will continue going back to time and time again with 100% confidence that I will consistently receive amazing coffee, food and customer service.
This place offers a diverse menu, and has delivered above and beyond expectations every time myself or friends have ordered from it, along with a variety of delicious cakes to choose from.
The coffee is always beautifully smooth and exactly what is asked for by quite attentive and skilled baristas.
Design wise, the interior is well thought out and has obviously had all details considered, making it a very comfortable place to chill out with some great coffee.
The only downfall to this place is that due to it's small size it's sometimes hard to find a seat when it is really busy, but I've still never had to wait overly long for my order.
Candehh
(A+) yummy breakfast & brunch food, friendly service & laid-back atmosphere ! A cute hideaway coffee shop with yummy menu ...I'll be back and back again.
Rachel Jaye Honner
Such a cool venue-great service, great location-I just wish their coffee was stronger!!! Ordered a double and I still felt like it was weaker than a standard latte.
Joshua George
Stumbled upon this cozy beautiful place on Little Bourke while looking for my fix of caffeine. The interiors are absolutely amazing. I ordered a single origin long black with beans from Kenya made by MarketLane coffee which got me wanting for more. They also serve jaffles and croughnuts and all quite reasonably priced. Trip 2 will add details on the food but the curtesy and coffee have won me.

There have been occasions where I’ve regretted getting Naked, but this ain’t one of ‘em.

My Soy Cappuccino was superb as always... the best!! I do get whimsical, as I wish I could drink it everyday! Maybe I will put that it my job searching criteria.. "must be close to Little Bourke St." As we left, Shanny was even happy enough to get a picture with Dar

We originally wanted to go to Little Mule Café, but it was closed. My sister was very against having dumplings (in Australia), so we went to Naked instead. I liked the tabasco eggs there, though it was plain Jane baked eggs. I was a little surprised at the size of the jaffle; it was a lot smaller than I expected it to be. It tasted good though; you can never go wrong with turkey and cranberry and the brie cut the richness lightly.

Great Coffee... Just Wow. Had a really amazing coffee here while on holidays in melbourne last Friday! Tasted delicious and that milk! Was smooth from start to finish, down to the last sip it was fantastic! Will definitely be recommending this place to any friend going to Melbourne

My go to coffee place. Always get a great coffee here and you can clearly see that they know what they are doing. Been having my morning coffees here for around two months now and have never had a bad coffee.

Would Come Again. Great coffee, with good attention to detail as I was served a shot glass of sparkling water with my short Macchiato which was apparently meant to be used to "clean the palate" before and after drinking the coffee.
However, the service was slow even though there was 3 staff working and only a few people dining. Another downside is they only had raw sugar, I like white sugar in my coffee and I was a little disappointed to see that it wasn't an option. They do serve some of the best coffee available in Melbourne, so I would return.
Stig3824
Nice Touches. Great coffee and well presented with the addition of a shot of sparkling water to "cleanse the palate". The only issue was that the three coffees ordered were served with a five minute break between each one despite having about the same number of customers as staff.
Mark
Time. I have been here a few times over the last 6 months or more but still they haven't figured out how to manage time. So slow with service with 3 people behind the bar. Can't see this improving!!

However the coffee is good and staff friendly.
I Just Love Good Food
C/L turned to a chai latte?. Im not sure if the barista here knew what was a C/L takeaway with one sugar. I was in the rush to work and had my C/L from this cafe but all I could taste was sweet and little bit of tea plus no coffee flavour at all. I checked the cup, the cashier written C/L + 1 on it. I opened the cap and the drink looked white, I was sure she made my latte into a chai latte. Thanks for ruining my morning mood.
Gin_Palace
This place is the place I compare every other coffee to. Nothing has surpassed it! Highly recommend and the friendly staff are amazing!

Love. I'm from Perth and came to Melbourne for one week. Came to this place for breakfast twice because I loved it. Such a homely vibe, delicious food and beautiful coffee. The staff were friendly aswell. I would definitely come back here if I come back to Melbourne.

Awesome coffee. Great vibe. The perfect little espresso bar
Rachel_jaye
Attentive and lovely staff-GREAT coffee! Will return.

The short black specialist. Nice coffee, great little breakfast but I wish they could work out a way to make my meal in less than an hour.
Cheers

First sip will make your day! Am so pleased it is close to my work. Their coffee is just so right! Imagine sweet strong latte!

Love their coffee, interior and lil cupcakes. Staff are friendly. This is going to be my fav place.

This little 'Blink and you'll miss it' coffee bar is the truest way to experience Melbourne at its finest. If you're a local, or just visiting this city, do NOT miss out on The Naked Espresso Bar because you're not going to savour the perfection of their coffees anywhere else. Sit down, Sip up and Enjoy!
Iheartbaklava
Had probably one of the best coffees here. An absolute win! It's got a nice vibe too. Very quaint.

Perfect experiences!. After yet another yummy lunch today from Naked Espresso, thought it's time to rate it. And I do so HIGHLY!

Consistently friendly service, consistently delicious sanga's/bagels (even when they may sound simple) and of course, coffee.

Today my mushroom/swiss cheese/spinach and almond toastie came with a plum. Cute surprise!

Keep up the excellent job guys :)
Cochin
I love their excellent coffee, beautiful staff and gorgeous bagels - it's my new coffee-home in the city.
Paul Richards
Great coffee. Fresh bagels for lunch, nice smiles.

Great coffee and friendly staff.... Easily the best coffee in this area. Very consistent flavour and it doesn't matter which staff makes it (unlike some places).

The staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly and chatty. Certain nearby cafes could learn a thing or two about great service from these guys.
Legalbagel
Hot coffee. Cute space, great coffee, lovely staff. Can't go wrong here.

Delicious coffee, delicious bagel, great service and a bonus apple- it doesn't get much better then that :)

Top Coffee. Great coffee, great staff....this is a top spot for coffee and friendly staff. Well done to Naked Expresso!

Cute cafe, super friendly staff, delicious food. Visit at lunch for the 14 dollar meal deal - any sandwich, a coffee or cold drink, a cookie and a piece of fruit to balance it all out! I thoroughly enjoyed my peach and bourbon BBQ pork bagel, soy latte and chocolate chip cookie... And the apple... :) great location, definitely coming back to try the waffles!

Amazing coffee, individual service that is second to none. Food is divine !

Fantastic cosy cafe located in the heart of the city.. Very friendly staff too!

It was great in Lt Collins, now improved in Lt Bourke. 11/10.

Good to see old friends again. After coming to the Elevenses people so well from getting my morning coffee, I was devestated to see them leave little Collins st and some other place open up. So I was so pleased to find out that they are now closer to the CBD in little Bourke st, just near Hardware lane.
They still use Toby's estate, plus some other new types of coffees. Same awesome sandwiches, but now they are on bagels as well.
I have been there a few times in the morning, service is quick and personable.
I have had lunch there as well, with the two tables it quickly becomes standing room only, but they are pretty quick on the takeaway sandwiches so it wasn't a big problem.
The World Loves Melbourne
Naked Espresso Bar is a stunning café on Little Bourke St that shines amongst the precinct coffee belt with attitude, vibe and great coffee! I wasn’t sure what drew me in first – the aroma of coffee or the bright yellow colour scheme – like honey to this coffee bee. The vibe inside is great – with jazz (thought it was Louis Armstrong), quirky objects like the red guitar in the window, and super friendly engaging staff behind the counter!
Meld Magazine
Naked Espresso is a great place to grab a quick lunch or to sit by the window and enjoy a great cuppa.
Sophie
...unassuming little cafe that serves a few breakfast options including fruit toast, granola and waffles, with sandwiches, bagels and even LuxBite macarons thrown in for good measure. They serve brilliant coffee, but like I said, the competition is impressive so they might have a bit to go before they become my favourite. I am quite taken by their menu though, having ordered the amazing fruit toast (with apricots, figs and other delicious fruits) on two occasions I’ve been there.
Nic Cril
If you don’t go down and pay these happy baristas a visit – then you have no soul. There, I said it.
Katherine Chiu
This little gem is hidden away in Lt Bourke st, where Hardware lane is. They are a speciality coffee place where Market lane and AXIL coffee beans are used. It was a buzz with people this morning, whilst outside was cold and dreary. All their meals are American which is nice. They do have sandwiches and bagels on offer.

Latte, $3.50 Flat White The latte that I had was great, the Masala chai .. not so. I must say, the coffee here was as good as the one I had from BBB. Not the same, but definitely of the same quality. The chai on the other hand, just didn't work for me as it was too mild, and lacked the spice. Food wise: They have a limited variety of bagels and sandwiches on display. At the time of our visit there were only four options to choose from.. The Cherry Kangaroo sandwich caught my eye, but I didn't felt like anything sweet just yet, so i settled for the Mushroom Melt Bagel instead. Princess went ahead with the Tabasco Baked Eggs . Food was just average, not really something I wo

The food is good, really good, imaginative but not overdone. They use quality bread and pastries...

Even though they serve a mean cup of golden brew, I can never go pass their Masala Chai as well, which I highly recommend.

Good drinks, great relaxed (albeit small) space and cheeesy tabasco baked eggs.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
As a group we are mainly about the food and not the coffee, although the reputation of the coffee here is good. The food is simple in style, a few pastries and in a tribute to childhood memories jaffles. These are a form of toasted sandwich, sealed around the outside to ensure that not of the goodness is wasted.
