Ok, for a Korean cbd lunch feed. Many better options around that would be preferable and advisable, but they were at least able to get the basics right. The marinades for the stir-fries were authentic and tasty. The servings were fair and everything was reasonably price. Service was not particularly great with room for improvement.
We ordered the buffet for 4 people.
Service 5
The staff were friendly and prompt with service. There was a time limit of about 1.5 hours, which is plenty.
Environment 4
A little crowded, but generally clean
Flavour 4
Bbq style was good, nice cuts of meat, no bones, was good marinate.
Serving 5
Buffet
Value for money was good for a buffet.
I will go back again sometime.
This was my first Korean BBQ experience and was very satisfied with the food and service from Marroo!! There was a wide range of food options to select from and 2 hours was definitely not enough!
i had a dinner time with my friends at the marroo ,it was first time to visit there, one of my friends recommended me the marroo which has a lot of foods, also delicious foods. Therefore i could get there with my friends. at that time ,all my friends was satisfied with all foods~ i will definitely visit again soon~Thank you
Had the dinner buffet special with meat and seafood option (price includes one soft drink).
You may arrive starving and be tempted to start digging into the included buffet selection of cooked items, I was guilty of this.
Food items offered as part of the "filler" buffet selection range from takoyaki, tteokbokki with sausage, fried chicken wings, fried rice, etc.
To make the most out of it you may target things like wagyu beef and seafood such as king prawn.
When the meat arrives the waitress will help you cook it over the charcoal BBQ plate and will continue to help you cook when the restaurant is not too busy, just be cautious of this to not 100% rely on the staff to help you turn your meat as their hands can be pretty full with other customers, and you may want to do so especially for the prawn to avoid overcooking it. Otherwise they're really helpful and attentive to your BBQ.
The meat selection overall was good, just don't expect the wagyu to be steakhouse grade or over the top tender, but otherwise the others were nicely marinaded and I especially like charred bits if you let those fatty bits get "burned" a little.
For the seafood selection just make sure you don't overcook your prawn, otherwise you'll have a hard time peeling the shell off. Also not that the octopus is an actual small octopus with the head and tentacles in one piece, if that scares you then stick to squid.
Overall was a really good experience, just be prepared to walk out smelling like smokey BBQ.
I am convinced to say that Marroo has become one of my favourite Korean joints in Melbourne. Food was delectable and clean, service was outstanding, atmosphere was steamy, in a good way and the variety was adequate to quash the hungriest of diners.
Been going to Marroo on and off for 4 years now. Miss being able to order ala carte but their lunch buffet is very good value. Service is a bit spotty but the food makes up for it.
Been going to this place for more than 3 years now. One of my fave lunch joints in the city. New update on buffet is great and food is always delish. Fantastic value for money and the staff are friendly and helpful. Keep up the great work!
Great quality of meat at a very reasonable price! Love the egg souffle on the bbq pit, which I believe it's only available here! Awesome service too!
I went to Marroo last week with my friends .At that time, it was good and satisfied with service as well as food. There were a lot of delicious foods also good quality of meats. so ~ I recommend many people to visit there to taste korean style foods. it was fantastic!!!
Had been a regular for a little while. Menu had changed slightly with the new buffet style on my last visit. But meat quality was decent and tasty. Enjoyed the choice and variety. Service was good and didn't have to wait too long to take an order. Would definitely go back again.
I must do this place some justice! I went for the lunch buffet today at 12 (Yes Zomato shows 11 but they actually start at 12) and was impressed by the variety of food offered! There were 25 varieties, including 5 types of salads, 2 types of soups (soybean tofu anf spicy tofu) and 2 types of rice (steamed and fried). There was watermelon as well! The taste was probably 3.5/5, e.g. I found the beef a bit bland, but the variety and price makes up for it! It was 13 dollars eat in, 10 dollars (big lunchbox) and 8 dollars (small box) take away. You can find all the common Korean food varieties here, and they even have a bibimbap station! I definitely recommend this place as a cheap lunch spot for singles as well as small groups.
I've been here several times. Everytime I've been more than happy! Staff are really pleasant! Food is amazing and quick! Will continue to come back :)
Been here a few times and it never disappoints. Our go-to place for korean bbq. Great value with an offering of wagyu beef and the range of side dishes. Great flavour with the smokiness from the charcoal.
Little Bit Of Everything
+3.5
Dined here for dinner all you can eat seafood buffet. Very limited choice of meats and seafood. Every time we asked for the same cut of meat was more thinner or smaller or lesser in quantity. It was hard to get their attention so we could order more. Well for the price we paid we should not be expecting too much either. My favourite was the Kimchi Tofu hotpot got two of them absolutely delicious.
Wonderful atmosphere, very modern Korean BBQ place. Would definitely come back with friends and family.
We had the 3 egg soufflé on a BBQ, spicy pork belly and soy chicken... plenty food for 2 people dinner.
Wonderful experience and a get range of choice for BBQ
They also have a buffet price for lunch and dinner which is great for a bigger group for 3 people.
So I gave Marroo a visit with a colleague since the ladies in the office were raving about this place and how the hot pot (stone bowl really) was so good and reasonably cheap. Situated in the basement of little collins street, first impression was it was fairly dark and there was a lot of bbq smoke still lingering. It kind of needs to be aired out since no one was even having bbq during lunch.
I ordered the spicy pork and squid hot pot whilst my colleague had the beef bulgogi. Size is definately really generous but also the fact the pork and squid is of good grade. Unlike other places which give you small bits and pieces and very few meat, Marroo is actually really generous. I wonder if they make a profit? It wasn't overly spicy but indeed quite hot and did take me a while to get through. I consider this to be one of the better korean places at the west side of the cbd.
Also it's a good place for singles aha since you could sit at the bar by yourself without feeling awkward hogging a table to yourself. Definitely will come back again.
Lunch time catch up with an old friend in which he recommended Marroo Korean. Flavour-some, fresh, visually appealing and smelt delicious because it was. Cheap too! We had a hot pot each which varied between $10.9 - $11.9. Only took a photo of the Beef Bulgogi - ordered spicy.
BUT...and it was a big one...upon arriving, the floor had clearly just been mopped and it wasn't a very good job as it appeared that the mop was placed inside the bucket and then straight into the floor without being adequately wringed out. Puddles everywhere and a law suit waiting to happen. Rubber mats were placed on top to minimise slipping however, as we were eating and right in front of us, a waitress screeched out (luckily she wasn't holding any hot food) as she fell over from a mat slipping out from under her. Then another waitress tripped over a mat that she had caught her foot on it as it slipped out of place.
Would we come back for food at lunch time... might give it a miss as we don't want to injure ourselves or perhaps be injured by a falling waitress holding hot sizzling plates/bowls. Other than that, quick confirmation, service was good and food brought out rather promptly, friendly staff and quite a nice interior. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!
Lunch time best optional dining here , Firstly the customer services not bad , and secondly the hot pot here not bad , many choice to be selected , and the taste not bad , lastly the price is reasonable, cheers .
Down to earth filling food; went with the buffet and there was enough selection of meats to pick from as per korean bbq - generally only get a couple meat dishes anyhow so this was good. Japchae for entree was well flavoured. Happy with attentive service.
Fabulous wagyu beef i have ever had in Melbourne. Have ordered a lot in buffet set and they are so tasty, as well as the pork belly. The only put-off is the strong smoke and fume inside the shop, exhaustion is not that great. Also, the charcoal grill takes pretty long to start up and cook, we had wait long but overall fantastic food.
This restaurant offers awesome Sweet spicy fried chicken it's DELICIOUS. The Staff are friendly! Parking can be an issue but on Sundays most city parking is free and unlimited!
A decent and fairly priced alternative for lunch time city goers if you're on the search for some authentic Korean food. Very friendly staff and service was pretty good. Food was generally consistent throughout.
Great sensorial experience fun to do with friends. First time and loved it! Pretty good value to do the banquet and get as much meat as you can eat! Very tasty just didn't like that I left smelling smokey..which is no surprise though. Struggled to communicate with some staff but would still return and recommend.
Seafood lunch box $12.50
Good variety with salad, stir fry, deep fried, rice
Quality of food very good with each component strong in flavor
Service is friendly
Service took 20 minutes due to lunch hour rush
Moderately priced Lunch food $11-15
“Maroo Maroo Maroo is on fire”
A first time visit to this unassuming Korean restaurant left Your Dear Luncher very impressed. Food items all very well priced and most importantly Korean beer for $5 or $6. The Dear Luncher loves a bargain … but when a bargain also results in a quality culinary experience – you’re gonna have a good time.
Korean deep fried dumplings were enjoyed as an entrée ($6). That’s $1 per dumpling for all you wizards out there. On one previous occasion in Adelaide The Dear Luncher experienced Korean dumplings and they were terrific (check out Mandoo in Adelaide if you are there). These were not quite up to Mandoo standard, but excellent just the same. A herby character to them, golden crispy casings and soft innards. For the main, The Dear Luncher opted for the Crispy Crunchy Fried Chicken in Hot Pot ($11.90). This was a thoroughly satisfying experience. Plenty of chicken within, ample rice and supplemented with the usual Korean “free stuff” (kimchi and all that jazz) it proved to be a delightful concoction.
Service was extremely fast. The Dear Luncher's experience negates some of the reviews about slow service. The Dear Luncher feels as though he has stumbled across a bit of a hidden gem here.
Marroo doesn’t look like much from the outside, but its a nice korean restaurant located in what could be the basement of the Little Collins Street apartments.
The interior looks similar to your average Korean BBQ restaurants, featuring that telltale hanging exhausts above each table, but has a fancier feel due to the large bar visible as soon as you walk in.
The restaurant was pretty busy this afternoon during the lunch period. I guess we weren’t the only ones hoping for a quick lunch.
The staff were friendly, but the service left much to be desired. The dishes were tasty and very reasonably priced. I noticed they offer a BBQ buffet during the evenings - definitely a good reason for a second visit.
Check out the review of Marroo Korean Charcoal BBQ & Bar in the blog post below.
Good value for all you can eat bbq while the food quality is ok. However, they need to hire more staff as all of them are too busy every time of my visit. And unfortunately I think this is the only all you can eat korean bbq restaurant left in CBD......
Good quality meat, though less fancy than hwaro, but still tasty. Manager was friendly, all staffs were attentive, but a couple of staffs prob overworked, didn't seem happy when serving customers, but def. not rude. Price is quite good for decent quality of BBQ, can't ask for more
Went for lunch on weekdays to Marroo, it was pretty busy inside. I decided to try their bento box and choose chicken for the protein. It was cheap as with $12 you can get brown rice, meat, side dishes, salad and drinks. Good deal. They have only a few staff so it's quite hard to get them when ordering or if you want to ask them but they are generally friendly.
Fortunately today there r not so many people here ~ but the smoke is very heavy
When I got in the restaurant, I wanted to go to another space to have dinner. Because the circumstances, I mean the smoke is tooooooo heavy. Not feeling good.
But honestly, the food worth higher rates than 3.5!
The beef tongue BBQ is gooooood!
And the cold noodle is good! Love it
We order too much ~
3 people you only need to order 3
We order 6.. But the staff didn't give us advise like "you guys don't need to order that much"
I will give them 3.5 over all
I think it's worthy to try. The beef is so huge and there are many kinds of choice It's a super good choice for us. the price is acceptable.
Not a recent visit but when I went I remember it had good food, I haven't had a lot of Korean food but so far this is the best I've had and have been meaning to go back again.
I had the bulgogi, super good in the stone bowl and the rice gets all crispy on the edges.
Nice dinner to celebrate my friend's birthday. We ordered seafood pancake. It tastes normal. Rice cake with beef with soy sauce. The rice cake and beef chewy. It tastes ok. BBQ pork belly, ox tongue, beef taste good. Egg and cheese are round the meat. It looks good, but tastes light. Recommend to order BBQ.
Having lived in s Korea for 3 years - I crave Korean food quite often. Marroo is one busy place and their lunch menu totally caught my attention. Hot pots , rice , stew - very satisfactory just like it was in Seoul . My seafood soft tofu soup was delicious , hot and spicy with lots of prawns - I was a happy girl.
And those kimchis - they were absolutely amazing. Next time I am going to buy and takeaway a box of kimchi.
Definitely going back there , if you are in CBD I say it's a pretty damn good option for lunch .
If you are coming to this please, booking is a must to get the tables that offer the infamous grilled egg soufflé as well as charcoal bbq, or else only ordinary hot plates bbq will b offered. Also, be ready to get barbecue smell all over your clothes coz their ventilation isn't quite working.
Marinated Beef Brisket (3.5/5) - Well marinated with korean garlicky sweet soy sause, a really great deal with such a price.
Korean Style Pork Belly (3/5) - quite nice just like any other korean barbecue places.
Deep Fried Prawns (4.5) - Fresh prawns wrapped by fluffy batter, totally loved it.
Nice Korean restaurant. Friendly staff. Great food. Welcoming atmosphere. We had the set banquet, sooo much food. Nicely priced. Will come again.

There are many restaurants that try to be all things to all people and here is how Maroo is different. It does hot pots really well. This is one of those popular restaurants that unless you get the timing right, you will be completely out of luck and have to wait for what feels like hours when you’re hungry. My companions and I were lucky. We came close to 11:30am and were able to beat the morning rush. Because of this, we only had to wait 15 minutes instead of some people having to wait upwards of 45 minutes. [.75/1]
Not a bad lunch spot. A nice set of bento box choices for a weekday lunch. Quick service, a bit of patience is required as the staff member didn't understand much English. But that's OK he was nice enough and smile a lot.
I went to Marroo during my birthday and had the all you can eat deal. We came pretty late with only an hour to order, and during that time they brought out our food quite quickly. We stayed til closing and left with a thank you which was very satisfying.
Food: 4
Service: 5
A favourite location for fast, cheap bibimbap. Come early just before the lunch rush. Reasonable service. Spicy pork is a favourite of mine.
Lovely place for a decent work lunch. They have nice bento sets and lunch specials.!Very reasonable price and food is very tasty. Food comes at a decent speed too!! One con though, waiters don't speak much English, so changing anything on the menu can be a challenging task..
Delicious food. Absolute loved everything that came out of the kitchen. Our favourite bit was the table BBQ where the meat was cooked on our table in front of us. Good quality meat and delicious.
We booked at 8pm and didn't get seated until 8.30pn though.
Overall 4.5/5
Came for the cheap lunch options with a colleague. Had the fried chicken hotpot (claypot) with sweet chilli sauce. Service was fast during a busy friday lunch. Food was tasty, especially the crispy bits of rice from the clay pot. Unfortunately the coca-cola I was served was room temp and totally flat. Tasted like a badddd post-mix situation. The dish I ordered didn't have a super 'korean' flavour but was delicious regardless
Update august 2017: came back on a wet and windy day. Floor was greasy and food was fast, just as expected. Had the spicy chicken and cheese hotpot this time and left in a food coma !
I gotta say - for an $11-$13 lunch, this might be the best deal in the CBD!!! Like seriously, the service was spot on, food was quick, and flavors were down right yummy in every way with different textures and temperatures with regard to cold/heat and spiciness as well. I think the quality of the ingredients is not that of expensive restaurants but again, for minimal money - this place rocks! The ginger pork was great along with the beef in the box lunch and mayo chicken was gobbled up by a nine year old. It was all good!
