I would rate this place a four because of their service and food..
I loved the kabab with saffron and steamed rice combo
The minced lamb with the rice was just 3 star according to me cause i am not a raisin person and it had raisins in with the rice, minced meat.
The starter was yummy
I remember it had egg plant..and the pita bread
A must try one guys !!
I forgot the names of the dishes and sadly on zomato their menus are not available
Finally went here for dinner after wanting to try it for ages. I had my heart set on the cookoo sabzi but unfortunately it wasn't available. Instead, I got the mirza ghasemi (roast eggplant and tomatoes) and the kashke bademjan (eggplant, whey and mashed walnut), which were both rich and delectable and served with a heaping amount of bread. That said, the former was meant to come with rice if ordered in a main size and I wasn't advised the entree size didn't come with it, which was a bit disappointing. I also ordered a side of spinach and yoghurt dip but swapped it to salad. Unfortunately the waiter must have forgotten and brought the dip instead. It was good but lacked spice and was very heavy, so I would have ordered the salad but felt too bad to say anything. I'm interested to try this spot again but will order differently next time so I don't end up with a meal of what's essentially just bread and dips.
We had a pretty good lunch here on the weekend. They are on EatClub so saving 30% was great!
I’ve had a few deliveries from here but eating in was much better.
We had the Persian soup which had so much flavour and texture. It was aromatic and delicious.
The Zereshk Chicken was outstanding. I’ve never had a piece of chicken that was THAT GOOD! The barberries in the rice, so tangy with the softest ever chicken.
My child had the chicken skewer with rice and it was great quality. The dip was an eggplant version that went great with the bread too!
Lost a point for no wine; on a lazy Sunday with fabulous food we would of loved a BYO option like advertised but they don’t have their liquor licensing sorted yet so as soon as they do I can’t wait to come back!
Spending a over nighter on chapel with some gals for training was bound to be an adventure.
Wanted to try something different so persian food was suggested.
Food was really good but service could really improve by ALOT. The staff arent friendly particularly one waitress, she was rude, not friendly and even taking our order was like it was a big effort. If it wasn't for the fact the other gals wanted to try it, i would have walked out.
I'm giving it 4⭐ cause the food was really good but because the attitude of that waitress it didn't deserve 5.
Service is the number key to customers and obvious they don't know that. Really want to go eat there again but the thought of the service puts me off.
I've been to this restaurant so many times. The foods are nice and tasty, generous portions and well priced. Their kabab are moist, well marinated and cooked well. Love the baghali polo as the meat really come out the bones perfectly.
The Persian Room is a meat lovers delight. And if meat exactly isn’t your go to cuisine then don’t fret - the restaurant has an awesome selection of dips (hummus, baba ganoush, tatziki etc.) and other wonderful vegetarian cuisines too.
Good food. We ordered a eggplant dish, it was awesome. The ice- cream is a must try as well. Friendly service. Great flavours.
It is family friendly. We will visit again.
Best Persian food in Melbourne - hands down.Unfortunately, it does not have the atmosphere of some of the other Persian restaurants with live music or large amounts of space, given it is a very small space. But if you are after a really good feed I would recommend Persian room. For entrée make sure you get the three dips with bread (especially Mirza gasemi) and for mains I always get their diamond kabob which is SO juicy and delicious. There is plenty of rice and the staff are always happy to accommodate your every Persian request (including onions on the side). As a Persian, I wouldn't ever have the ash/soup or gormeh sabzi as no one can beat my mums, but all their kabobs are delicious and their broad bean rice with lamb shank is divine. Don't be put off by the size or décor - their kabobs do not disappoint.

Went there with my Persian boyfriend and everything was just awesome. Was my first time having Persian food and it was delicious!
Also the waitress was really nice
The first time I came herez I had sabzi and fesenjan. Probably not the best decision. But kebabs are just perfect! Definitely 5 star place. Will come here again on other occasions.
Came across this place whilst visiting Melbourne. Mid range price s, excellent meals, every single meal that we ordered.
The setting is not fine dining but food was faultless and the hostess was friendly and warm, especially given that we arrived just before they took the last order and close the the kitchen. Definitely 100% recommend them.
Consistent and plentiful. A tad on the expensive side, but I know how long it takes to cook good Irani food (just soaking and cooking the rice alone can be hours). We always order the soup (small) as a starter, a healthy and warm comfort soup full of chick peas, beans, spinach, herbs and noodles cooked slowly to bring out the flavour.
The Koobideh Kabab is succulent and the rice is buttery (even without adding the extra butter)
The Zereshk Polow is my absolute favourite, chicken falls of the bone and the the slightly tangy taste of the barberries mixed with the buttery rice is yum!
Got food delivered so cannot comment on service and ambience. Kashke bademjan was heavenly as was the bread it came with. Mixed meat platter with rice was lovely though the lamb backstrap wasn’t the most tender. The koobideh (minced lamb kebab) was amazing! Will definitely order from them again.
In a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon I and a friend decided to have a Persian lunch and Persian Room 248 seemed to be the only descent choice in South Yarra. We were not disheartened, rather enjoyed the ambiance. The staff were quite friendly and welcoming. We ordered Koobideh Diamond Kebab and Persian tea. The tea came first and the pots and cups instantly impressed us. The tea... oh! We really hadn’t any idea about the flavour of a Persian Tea.
The kebab plater, was served with rice, butter, onions and roasted tomatoes. The warm mouth watering lamb and chicken pieces will definitely bring me back to this place.
Ordered delivery so can’t comment on atmosphere but breads, dips were great. Salads good but Oliver Salad a little too salty. Rice was absolute perfection. Someone there really knows how to cook perfect rice. All in all good tasty food. Would order again.
Really liked this place amongst the Chapel street offerings. Decent amount of tasty food for price. Always liked the meat here due to the tender tasty chewy consistency, complemented with well cooked rice. Was always confused about the portioned butter. Small Persian teapot complemented the dish very nicely.
We have been coming here for a few years and every time they have never failed to deliver.
Juicy mince kebab and juicy chicken skewers served on a bed of saffron rice= perfection.
Absolute gem!
Finish up with the special Persian tea.
First time trying Middle Eastern/ Persian food and I'm not sure if it is authentic as I have never tried anything similar before, but I did enjoy the food.
Staff member: had to wait a long time as there was no one at the front counter. Was quite unprofessional 4/10
Food ordered: Kashke Bademjan - eggplant sauce/dip with hot bread & Persian King Kebab - three types of meat with grilled tomato and rice.
Food rating/comments:
Kashke Bademjan - very flavourful dip. Was really delicious and a must try when coming here. Very generous with the about of dip and bread we received. 8/10
Persian King Kebab - whilst there was a decent about of food, the meats weren't all that full of flavour and it some of the meat was quite tough and chewy. The grilled tomato was as it was, a grilled tomato, and the rice was decently flavoured. Some butter was given as well to add flavour to it all. 7/10.
The restaurant itself was very well decorated and interesting to look at. Overall, a good experience to try some Middle Eastern food.
With 25% off Entertainment book and good reviews on Zomato, Persian room is an obvious pick when we wanted to have dinner around South Yarra. Not sure if it's authentic but I like flavour combination, especially the Iranian stew with ground walnut and sauteed vegetables with diced lamb. Kebab was good but not special. Huge amount of rice that I wish there was more sauce to go with it. Friendly service. It offers something different from other restaurants nearby.
Great authentic persian food. I recommend the kebabs as they are very tender and juicy.
The staff are very friendly and polite. The atmosphere is a nice family one with a very simple but original persian decor.
The food is the authentic Persian food and the portions are so generous. The koobideh is divine and everything tastes like delicious real Persian food. One thing that's missed is lack of staff. The lady who works there is so friendly and amazing in her service but every time we go there at various times, there is only one staff running around serving all the table while they definitely need Two staffs at their busy times to comfort the customer and reduce the tension
Amazing food, amazing service. Busy night, but super efficient, attentive and friendly staff, lady called Ladan especially. Would recommend to all from a quiet dinner alone to a friendly group catch up.
Overall a delicious and authentic Persian meal. Portion sizes were more than generous and the food was incredibly tasty.
The Shahi Kebab was simply divine. Perfectly seasoned, juicy protein with slight charring, the succulent lamb mince was bursting with flavour and was incredibly soft. The chicken kebab was also quite pleasant with great aromas, although this was a tad tough given that it was breast meat. Complemented by a mountain of basmati rice, mixing in the meats with a tad of butter and made for a generous, flavourful meal.
I absolutely love this place. Everything from food to service is exceptional. Me and my boyfriend are regulars.Would definitely recommend it to anyone.
"Laughter is brightest where food is best...."-this is the appropriate words for this chophouse..it's truly a gem for me.I can't speak even a single negative word for this place,as all things are just beyond my expectations.the food was just superb along with the service, ambience, quality with amount.in short,it just swept off my feet.
Our first experience with Persian food and we were pleasantly surprised at how good it was! The eggplant dip with bread was splendid, whilst the different kebab meats were chargrilled to perfection, accompanied by saffron rice and an appetising salad.
Very happy with service and food , we try this restaurant a few times and always been high quality food and delicious meals, my frd all like it (((We Love it )))
The food is actually nice and reasonably priced, not a big variety but tastes good, mostly meat with rice dishes. They don't serve alcohol but you can byo from bottle shops nearby.
Eggplant dip is to die for! That's the highlight of this restaurant for sure. Decor was ok, customer service was ok, other food was nice, but the eggplant dip! I didn't like eggplant much prior to having their dip, and neither did my best friend, but now both of us are huge fans of eggplant! I've had other eggplant dips in other Persian restaurants and so far nothing comes close to the one here. Would highly recommend!
Went for lunch with wife and friend.
We all enjoyed all the food, except the Barberries & Rice meal (Persian: Zereshk Polo Morgh), which wife and I thought wasn't particularly nice, although it wasn't bad. I'm used to the barberries being sweetened to make the meal interesting, but these ones didn't seem to have much flavour.
I was surprised with how quickly the food was served. The lady who served us was good. Also, there was a canary at the desk, which was nice for me since I like birds.
Yummy traditional Persian food in a cute little restaurant with great service. A little more variety wouldn't hurt but besides that very much enjoyed our meal here!
The first time I was there, I was quite surprised by how good the food was. They do great Persian style food options and they can get quite filling too. The meat and the rice combinations can never go wrong, especially with some butter provided on the side to melt on the grilled meats!
One of the very few persian restaurants in Melbourne. The city doesn't offer a variety of persian spots. Luckily this one is very good.. Close to excellent! The meats are so tender and juicy and the rice is great!
This is personally my favourite Iranian restaurant in town. I often come here on a weekend night and always got the same consistency of food. Better to book on Friday/Saturday night as it can get full pretty quickly. I always got the mix combination one with beef and chicken. It is just my favourite one.
Nice little persian restaurant located in South Yarra. There is not much finesse about the decor of this restaurant. The paper table cloth doesn't help either.
The presentation of the food isn't great either but it's really tasty. The meat is nice and succulent, mixing the butter in with the rice was different but tastes great! Price is around $20 for a main, probably could be cheaper but I guess rent is expensive in South Yarra. We got a dip and bread too and that was quite nice. Overall good food and we'll be back.
We have been here a few times and this is a nice cozy place without any luxury about it. We have eaten almost all the dishes here. I am a great fan of the persian rice and sumac, so I do like the flavours a lot. Though I we are non veggies but we did like the mirza ghasemi a lot with the turkish breads.
The portion sizes are huge, and especially if you are ordering 'Broad Bean Rice with lamb shank', you must be ready for a huge piece of lamb.
I agree with the previous reviewer, that the spoons and forks have a odd shape making it a bit difficult to hold them. The staff are gentle and pleasant.
We recommend this place definitely !!! And Chapel street is always so lively, so you shall like it.
I am a huge fan of Middle Eastern food, especially their kebabs and dips are so good. So, one evening I wanted to try out the Persian place nearby. It was a cold and wet Melbourne evening, perfect weather for hearty Persian feast. We started off with the dips platter, as picking only one dip just wouldn’t be enough. Their dips platter comes with three dips and hot Turkish bread. Dips were very flavorsome. They were tangy, mix of sour and savoury. And the breads were cooked well and were perfect with the dips.
Fantastic food, very generous portions and very well priced. I have been there a couple of times and tried almost everything on the menu and I must say that I get more impressed every time. The lamb shank is a must-try!
Great food. The best persian kebabs, great service ans the only place to go if you want a hearty persian dish!
Great find.. From the time we walked in very welcoming ,great service for how busy it was. The food was lovely ,there was four of us we all had different dishes and more than happy. thank you for a terrific evening.
Good koobideh kabab but i found the barg and joojeh a little dry. Rice was not a fluffy as I had hoped but it was delicious anyway.. Decent Persian food and nice atmosphere.
Just excellent. We have been to Persian Room many times and always had beautiful food and attentive service with a smile from the charming staff there. It is a lovely place, highly recommended, and many thanks to the staff for being so nice.
GOOD SERVICE AND VERY NICE FOOD. I took my Father for lunch today for Fathers day , My Father he loves the food and the environment so much, he wants to go back again , The staff and the Manager very friendly. Anyway we enjoyed a lot. Thanks so much for hospitality 248 people.

Dined here a few weeks ago with a few friends. Would definitely go back. Beautiful and interesting flavours. The meat dishes were tender.
At first the prices seemed on the higher side but once the dishes arrived, the large quantiies matched the price and we realised we ordered too much. We spend $60 for 3 of us. Great food and great prices.
Great food. Well done, Persian Room. The meal was lovely. We look forward to the next one.
Really yummy kebab. Huge serves and very reasonable. I had the shahi, the lamb mince was delicious and the chicken was good too.
The only downer was the chairs... very strange.
My family and I absolutely love this restaurant. Superb quality food and you get so much of it for a bargain price! Will definitely be back regularly, thank you :)
First time having Persian food and am really glad we decided to try it out! The flavours here in the food are different but amazing, we had the eggplant dip and the chicken/lamb/beef kebab dish and both were delicious. Servers were really polite. Would recommend this place!
This is the best persian(iranian)restaurant in melbourne.best food and value 4 money . yummiest food ever.cant get enough of it!I strongly recommend cafe 248 food for either dining or any sort of special occasions;) & here my wife & I would like to thank u for ur great hospitality:) keep up the good work.c yous soon
I had a kobide and my mum had a
chicken kebab ,we were very happy.the food was nice and the price are cheap.im recommend it to you.
Every time I go to Cafe 248, the food gets better. Food is delicious, servings are generous. Good friendly service. Very happy to have this restaurant in our area. Keep up the great work.
Overall ok. Overall I was happy with this place. Very nice location and food.
However the first time I went there, the somagh (sumac) on my table was not a regular sour somagh, kind of purple in color. It was actually red and sweet. So it did ruin my kebab, and was very disappointed!!!
However after a few months, I got invited here for an occasion and I ordered the same kebab and the somagh was fine this time.
Also the staff need to be friendlier and a smile would be nice too!!!
Not only the food looks like pretty well, the taste is delicious as well. Mu friends and I had a really good meal. Thanks for Yug to introducing is to this place.
