Mamacita Foodie And Hola Con Lola

Love miss chu! So close to work, good food, clean space. The only thing is they closed so early!!
Looking for dinner in the area. Problem with south melbourne is there arent too many choices like cbd, windsor, south yarra, fitzroy etc. Accidentially walkin in to miss.chu surprisingly good.
A couple outlets of Misschu one in CBD, another in South Melbourne. We visited the one at Cecil St, South Melbourne. There’s a big contrast in rating for the two outlets… I enjoyed the food. We arrived at 2.30-3pm, so the restaurant was pretty quiet with mainly 2-3 staff working. Misschu is casual dining with Vietnamese-fusion flavours. A rustic setting with bits of decor that reminds you of Asia. Badminton shuttle cocks were just one of the subtle decor I noticed, cute. Tables are available for solos, couples or larger groups. The dining area is considered large for a cafe in South Melbourne.

This place seems to be popular among Uber Eaters for some unknown reason LOL The shop itself is not bad, just sometimes it can get too busy and the staffs couldn't give you much attention.
The foods are full of favours and very authentic in their tastes. Here are the must-orders:
(1) Pork & Prawn wrapped with crispy rice paper *Hanoi Spring Roll* I can eat 10 serves of that!!
(2) Lemongrass Beef (prefer to serve with vermicelli salad)
Amazing and refreshing lemongrass taste - super tender beef slices
(3) Red Rice dishes
Highly recommended!! I'm usually very skeptical to order brown rice / red rice from restaurant as they could get really hard and chewy when cooking is not properly timed. Red rice from Miss Chu is always fluffy, with nice ricely fragrant. Way to go with your high fibre diet!!
I didn't have any lunch at work today so my colleague and I ordered through Uber Eats.
I ordered the lemongrass beef vermicelli which was so delicious it had such a zingy sauce. All the ingredients worked so well together and I was hoeing into that bowl like no tomorrow!
My colleague and I shared the vegetable spring rolls which were nice, I only had 1 though as I was so full from the noodles.
I must admit there was some food envy from the other staff members in the tea room haha I think there will be another Uber Eats order very soon!
We ordered the prawn & crab spring roll vermicelli salad & only received spring rolls. This has now happened 3 times. All was resolved in the end & food always tastes amazing.
Went to Miss Chu on 20/11/17 with my Aunty.
Food was full of flavour ✅✅✅
Order at the counter, reasonably quick service
Clean and roomy restaurant
A self serve (infused) water station ✅✅✅
Value for money ✅✅✅
Nice experience, will definitely go back.
This place has it all going on. Probably the best Chicken Salad in Melbourne ( Tumeric chicken with a crunchy slaw ), great Salmon with XO sauce but also the worst Peking Duck pancakes you can ever have which they price at $4 each. Their service is awesome one day and terrible the next. There are inconsistencies in their cafe but still a very good place for lunch. Their dumplings are good but the stuff near the bottom of the menu is great.
Love this place for lunch. Popcorn chicken, salads, dumplings & vegie spring rolls are favourites! Quick service, yummy food...and love the decor!
Yes friends MissChu delivers. Both literally and figuratively. They've gotten me through the day at lunch when the craving strikes and through the night when working late hangry. The prawn haw gao are SENSATIONAL but a word of warning regarding the tuna rice paper rolls they arrive with a liberal smearing of wasabi so if you don't care for that vibrant green condiment let them know when you order as I've made the mistake more than once. I love the frozen coconut crush with pineapple and mint too 🙌🏼🙌🏼
My partner labels MissChu pretentious as you generally wait in line at the South Yarra restaurant but with this takeaway option everybody's happy!
Haven't expected much from a restaurant that is located within the supermarket building. However once you stepped inside, it feels like you're in a different world. $8 for 3 pieces of dumplings are usually quite expensive, but with Happy hour between 4:30pm-6:30pm, it's half price, so we ordered one of each. The prawn har gow and the scallop & prawn dumplings are the better ones. The beef pho, chicken curry and spring rolls are nice. The steamed rice crepes are so-so.
Just moved in around the corner (January) and have eaten here a few times now. Great little place for a quick dinner. The quality of the food and service has been great each visit. Funky tunes, different every time. Friendly service, good price, not too busy during the week . This time round I had the Tiger Prawn and green mango rice paper rolls ($8.50) along with a mini beef pho($5.50) .....a yummy bargain on a Melbourne winters night.
Tips,
1. Don't sit to close to the door. These guys do a roaring delivery service and sometime there are delivery riders backed up.
2. Try the small pho if you having more than one dish. They are quite filling and compliment most other dishes nicely.
Miss Chu epitomises everything I love about Melbourne's Asian food scene - fresh, cheap, quick and absolutely delicious. Owning three stores in Melbourne (and a few scattered across NSW) the vibe of Miss Chu's venues is a bit like the Tiki Room in Disneyland (if anyone's ever been?) - bright, funky with a distinct Tiki Hut feel. The way they take your order is also a point of difference - providing each table with an order sheet to be filled in, you just tick the boxes of the food you're after with the pencil provided and away you go!
Enjoyed my dumpling fix here I ate a bucket lid of them. The lemon grass beef noodles were ok, I've had much better. The fit out is awesome to
Nice coffee and super friendly staff. Pretty cool deco as well . I had been south yarra before and they are both pretty well.
Will be back very soon!
I used to come to Miss Chu for lunch on a weekly basis. After a while even though the food is good, it's never consistent. The portion sizes change too often and when ordering with a friend, the meals never seem to come out and the same time. Once it was a good 10 minutes in between (I believe they forgot the order). Takeaway seems a better option for me.
Satay chicken rice vermicelli salad is consistently excellent and flavoursome. Dumplings are lovely albeit overpriced at $8/3 dumplings. Be back to try other items on the menu next time. Shortfall is having to order and pay and hope someone doesn't take your table by the time your order is taken. This is an issue when you're dining solo especially in peak times. Queue can get a bit long as ordering seems to take unconventionally long. On the up side getting the food is super efficient once ordered :)
Much noooooooooooooommmmmmmmmssssss been here a few times and it's always been delicious and fresh. The chilli squid is definitely one to try
We are loving this place! Highly recommend the vegetable spring roll vermicelli salad, beef vermicelli salad, and the tuna sashimi rice paper rolls. Delicious!
I really love this place. The portion of the vermicelli salad are massive, I usually have heaps of leftovers and keep it for work the next day. It's taste so good and fresh, the custard buns are good too. I got the mint, cucumber and coconut drink today - it's so refreshing and like a slushie.
My first meal from Miss Chu was quite a vivid memory, as it was also the day of the Election announcement and we were all summoned to the office for a momentous Sunday night in. We ordered delivery from the newly opened Miss Chu and after what felt like an hour, we got our happy meals for our tired faces. I had the lemongrass beef with shirataki noodles (look mum, no carbs!). The food travelled decently well (albeit the store is only a block away) and it was mightily satisfactory. How lazy were we.
I like their lemongrass beef vermicelli salad, pork steam bun, prawn and scallop dumplings (even if these last are pricey).
Good overall experience
We wanted to check out the hype at misschu so here we are! The decor is very eye catching and using the coconut packaging as cups are an interesting concept! The food was pretty average for the price paid. Bread on the my Banh mi was soft and nothing special compared to traditional ones, but the flavours inside were complementing. Service was great. It kind of gives you am american diner feel but in asian cuisine? Interesting.
I freaking love this place. It has a funky seating layout, the music is really loud and pumping, the service is efficient and prompt, and the food tastes fresh as.
My favourites are the; large beef pho, traditional pork & prawn spring roll salads, the tiger prawn & green mango rice paper rolls. These are similar to the types of dishes I eat at home which is why I love em' so much. The pho is quite small in size but is filling enough until your next meal. The salads I find, they leave you feeling full.
I recommend just drink the water they provide you with which has slices of lemon in it - only if you're on a tight budget. Their cold pressed juices are in really small bottles! You have been warned.
Had a quick Sunday lunch here last weekend. Ordered the mushroom veggie shirataki noodles while my man got himself a piping hot bowl of beef pho. The service was prompt and efficient, and the staff and chef were Vietnamese, providing more assurance that the dishes would be really delicious while retaining their authentic flavours. Turns out, it was just alright. It was yummy but not mindblowing for sure, and it's overpriced. Good location though. I think it's a good place if you wanna grab a convenient rice paper roll, but it'll be a much better choice to head to Richmond to satisfy those pho cravings.
Not like the ordinary vietnamese food/restaurant but the taste is there and beautifully presented!! The place is well decorated and could hold a big group. Also great service will always make me come back!
Misschu added more options for Asian food in South Melbourne. Casual fusion restaurant concentrating in Vietname/Thai food. Menu is quite creative as reflected in their decoration. Try the main meal with black rice and quinoa for the Asian, Western blend. I found that mini Pho is a brilliant idea if you are into Tapas and like to try many dishes in one time.
Love going to miss chu for light healthy lunch. i normally have their low carb shirataki noodles which is a great option (more restaurant should stock these low carb noodles i think). Good place with reasonable price for vietnamese food
We love Miss Chu and now she has set up home in South Melbourne we can drop by or we can get amazing, lovely food delivered. Shanghai pork dumplings are one of hubby’s favourites and he loves these little bundles of fragrant pork in their wobbly little jackets. Prawn and crab net spring rolls are my absolutely addiction, I would eat these all day every day if I could!! Super crunchy little net rolls with delish stuffing.
Went early on a Sunday night. Plenty of tables. Has the beef noodles, spring rolls, steamed pork buns, prawn dumplings and bahn mi
All was very good. The beef was a tad too spicy but the steam BBQ pork bun and the bahn mi were amazing.
The service was quick but the waitresses were not very attentive.
New obsession. Vegan friendly pho was amazing. Best pho I've ever had. Also had papaya salad and vegan rice paper rolls. So so so good. Can't wait to go back.
Food was spot on and the service was fantastic! A great space and location in South Melbourne. Best Miss chu experience! Will definitely return soon.
Great food! I had a chicken satay vermicelli bowl. If you're looking for cheap, authentic Vietnamese, go elsewhere. You pay a premium here, and it's been jazzed up a bit. And I have to tell you - whilst I love normally sticking to authentic flavours, this was absolutely delicious! The balance of the dish was spot on.
The main negative about this place is the portion size. The bowl definitely does not fill you up so you have to order more to be content/full. Having said that, the additional price for additional food I would say is still worth it. The food is yum. Yum. YUM.
Cheers for Good Food !
Yey ! Miss Chu has opened in Southbank ! Another place to eat in Southbank. This new place has a very modern look. However, the cuttery and cups used are not "modern". But its okay. As long as it can be used.
You can sit outside or inside. Dont worry if you want to sit outside when its raining. They have built a shelter over it.
Ordered pork & mushroom rice pancake, prawn & crab spring roll salad, mini wagyu beef pho, and coconut sago with mango !
- Pork & mushroom rice pancake. Its like cheong fun in chinese dim sums. And its delicious !! Cant get enough of it. Well they do feels a bit weird when you eat it thou. Because you will feel like youre eating some kind of powder. Which my friend said is normal for some Vietnamese dish. They usually sprinkle some flour powder on their food. I dont know whats the reason but they do that on some dish. But no worries, its still taste good !!
- Prawn & Crab Spring Roll Salad. We choose the vermicelli salad. Taste good ! No complain. Just awesome.
- Mini wagyu beef pho. At first, you will feel that the taste is weird. But after few spoon, the taste started to change and become delicious. (I dont know what magic is that. But after eating few spoon, the taste gets better. Or maybe its just me ?)
- Coconut Sago with Mango. Delicious. No comment.
The food here are ON POINT. Everything was delicious. I was glad that eventhou its a branch, they still keep the same standard. Thank you Miss Chu !
Hope you guys have an amazing meal here ! Cheers ! 😊🎉
I had heard great things about Miss Chu prior to them opening an outlet in South Melbourne. As it recently opened, it would be rude not to visit.
First impressions were good. The place was busy, as to be expected, but staff greeted me on entry, and the process of ordering explained (it involves writing your own order down on a paper menu and going up to the counter).
I ordered takeaway, and the first thing I noticed was that there was no takeaway waiting area. Given the amount of takeaway orders both before and after me, this seems to have been a huge design oversight, as we ended up huddled around doorways and around seated diners. The staff seemed happy to continue taking more take-away orders without anywhere to put us. I had to wait a while for the food also, which is not bad, but would have liked the wait time explained at the time of ordering.
I ordered the vegetarian Hanoi spring rolls, which were amazing and some of the best I've eaten. I definitely recommend these to anyone. A serve is 4 spring rolls, which is just enough as an accompaniment to a meal.
I also ordered the fried chicken Bahn Mi and was disappointed. The bread was fresh and crusty, and the Asian slaw beautiful and well tasting. The let down was the chicken... not enough of it. It was essentially an Asian slaw Bahn Mi with a sprinkling of fried chicken.
I'll put these issues down to teething problems as they have only just opened. Will be back to see if its improved and to sample some of the other very temping delights from the menu.
Gave the menu a good crack.
Rice paper rolls were good, still lacking something but.
Beef Brisket Mini Bahn was great, do recommend.
Steamed veg bun was ok, wouldn't have a second time.
Crab and prawn salad is a must! Great flavour!
Satay chicken was up there too add a lil chilli and it's perfect.
Hanoi chicken curry was my favourite, exactly what I expect.
They did miss my dumplings that we ordered.
Otherwise, I'm happy with my new local!
Always a pleasure dining at Misschu! The new Misschu South Melbourne is already amazing and will only get better. The food and service is impeccable. My recommendation is the Spring Rolls and Popcorn Chicken.
Delicious food. Still working on service.
I realise this place is quite new, so I will forgive them for the minor flaws in service and the general running of things.
I've had the steamed bun, the vermicelli beef and the satay chicken on rice and grains. All have been delicious!
But today I sat in to eat at the restaurant and found it rather uncomfortable at times. On the plus side I was seated very quickly and given water. They have a little note pad where you tick off what you want from the menu. The problem is, to put your order in you have to get up and go to the counter to give them your paper order and pay. I was sitting alone, so I had to collect all my things and leave the table I'd been seated at. This made seating me first seem pointless. I would have preferred to order and then be seated.
I sat on the bench next to the kitchen, where there was a row of water jugs all the way along. I noticed that the staff kept leaning over the seats and grabbing the jugs, which was fine when they were towards the end of the row. But slowly they kept getting fewer and fewer, so closer to where I was sitting. This meant that the staff were soon leaning over me to grab the jugs, rather than simply walking around to the inside of the bar to get them. This made for very uncomfortable dining. In the future, I would prefer to get take away, which means less opportunity for them to up sell drinks and sweets. Just something to think about.
They are clearly still finding their feet in the newly opened store, but first impressions count.
