I arrived at Prahran market ravenous and stopped at Falafel Man for a snack after hearing good things. The prices are great and the food is tasty. It’s not the best falafel in Melbourne, but it made a great meal when paired with pita, tahini, complimentary unlimited pita crisps and two salads for just $8.50. Great cheap bite if you’re at the market.
Big call but this is the best falafel in Melbourne. Crunchy exterior, moist inside, packed with flavour. There's so much sad dry falafel in the world so when you find a good one you embrace with open arms.
I fluctuate between getting a plate or a pita pocket depending on how I feel. Both are amazing options. I love the free samples of their pita chips- they are so addictive.
There's always a line because people know this is good. It's one of the few places in Melbourne I'm willing to wait in line for. You haven't tried falafel until you've been to the felafel man.
You Had Me At Haloumi
+3.5
Ordered the lunch plate with the lot which consisted of 4 falafels, salad, pickled veg, couscous and 2 x half pita pockets (1 pocket). There are also condiments and deep fried pita chips for crunch at no extra cost. Enjoyed my meal. Falafels were nice and moist!! Good value but the serving of salads could be bigger. Would consider coming back for a bag of falafels on their own!!
$5 for a half pocket falafel was pretty reasonable to me.
Heard lots of people saying that this is the best falafel they've ever tasted. I couldn't agree more! This really is very very good! The falafels were crunchy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside. So good!
Will come back soon!
Great job, falafel man!
great falafel at a reasonable price! came across the place while shopping at prahran market and was pleasantly surprised with it! haven't had many falafels in melbourne, but i really enjoyed this one! will be back!
This popular unpretentious stall has been here for ever and everything looks fresh and it is. Today I went for the half pocket which came with two salads, falafel and tahini. Heaven but super messy.
Delicious moist and flavourful falafel! Best I've ever had. Only criticism is that there is no tahini served with them - despite ordering 10 balls. You could only buy a $5 big tub of hummus. Eating them plain or with the free chilli sauce was still good.
TIP: If you do want hummus, go visit the deli just inside (opposite the gozleme ladies) where you can buy a delicious tub of Israeli hummus for about $3.
I don't come to Prahran market often but every time I do... I just can't go past The Falafel Man! Best Falafels ever! Always fresh! Always moist and flavour well balanced! Yum yum
Super tasty and fresh! Best felafel I've had. I love the lunch plate with the lot, and particularly the felafel balls themselves with spinach and other goodness mixed inside them.
逛市场的时候常常会买一个做午餐,falafel的味道和质感都很棒,配上些蔬菜一顿是很满足的,就算没有肉。
A must-try when you shop at Prahran market.
The Falafel Man makes some pretty tasty, fresh and healthy falafel a - the open plate is perfect for a lunch time snack. However, I've found that sometimes the falafels can be a bit dry and lacking in flavour.
The first time I ever tried falafel was here in Falafel Man and I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed that. I had tried falafel elsewhere and I can't say they were as good as this place. I keep on coming back to this place whenever I am craving for one. If you are ever in the vicinity of Prahran Market, I strongly suggest that you come and check this place out. I highly recommend it!
As far as I'm concerned, if you're at Prahran market there is no other lunch option.
The falafel man is my favourite place to get falafel and has been for years.
So fresh, great salads, cheap and cheerful.
Great place inside the Prahran market. Reasonable price for a first quality falafel pocket. Fresh ingredients, falafels fried in front of you, super tasty. Highly recommended
The best falafel I have had in Melbourne. Tasty and fluffy and served with crunchy salad, tahini, and chili sauce. The Falafel Man is an expert in his craft.
"Shopping for groceries at Fiji mart for Japanese groceries and fresh food from Prahran market area, I remembered seeing an busy Falafel stall. I had only heard great things and had a falafel craving one weekend.”
So good. Great falafel :D happy to try
Lunch Plate with Salads. Best falafel I have ever had
Great falafel but OH SO SLOOOOWWW SERVICE
So freaking delicious! Get the lunch plate with the salads (which change on a semi-regular basis). It will be the best decision you make all day. Hands down
BEST FALAFELS!!!. The Falafel Man has been in business for years. I remember going to Prahran market with my Mum when I was little (late 90's) and eating a Falafel Pocket for lunch. The Falafels haven't changed at all since then. Very reasonably priced and very tasty!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! :D
Delicious!. Fresh ingredients and made on the spot. Highly recommended!
Well worth the wait. At first I was intimidated by the large slow moving queue obstructing the way through to the market but eventually I came good and joined the orderly line of hungry people. By far and away the best thing about this dining experience is having your food cooked for you by Keith from the original 'The Office' TV series - and he said he was only good at accounts. I was so star struck, I don't remember what I ate.
Honestly these are probably the best falafels I've ever head and at such a great price! I had the plate option so I could try the other couple of salads that you don't get with the pita, and they were delish. Everything just oozed with flavor. We knew the food had to be good when there was a small line forming at The Falafel Man's cart inside Prahran Market. Also don't forget to top off your meal with the scrumptious pita croutons!
Not a falafel man, but a falafel god. The fresh balls served up at the falafel man are extraordinarily different (and superior) to both the typically dryer styled turkish falafel and the somewhat over fried and crispy exteriored israeli offering.
These felafel's have a herby/garlicy, yet overwhelmingly fresh, pungent robustness that makes them quite unique to the typically available felafel. As I overheard one admirer recently comment, the transition between the crisp exterior and the gooey interior of the ball is seamless.
The balls are freshly fried upon your ordering and are served either on plate or inside a pita pocket. Accompanying the felafel's are a range of salads, two of which generally change on a daily basis, ensuring that your experience is different each time you visit this Mecca.
While I personally prefer a fluffy and thick pita to house my felafel balls, the thin version offered by the FM surprisingly hold the entire masterpiece together very well, having never experienced the dreaded 'felafel tear' that inevitably sees the tahina spill all over one's clothes.
All in all, judging the felafel balls alone, i have no hesitation in saying they are as good as the best felafel balls of the Middle East, and, with a change to the fluffy variety of pita, could perhaps one day become the GREATEST FELAFEL IN THE WORLD !
Good hearty & cheap vegetarian. I had the works plate for lunch today. Wow! So yummy. 4 falafel balls, an avocado & corn salad, a cabbage salad, a lettuce salad & a flat bread - all for $8.50! My partner had to eat 2 of the balls as I just couldn't fit it in. Hawker style in a little cart near Essential Ingredient, I marvel how the Falafel Man cooks in such a miniscule space. Lovely lady serving, the food was delicious & fresh.
