We bumped into this place by accident. It is right across the road from our gym in the QV complex on Russell Street. A very interesting place. 1st floor is a lounge bar, 2nd floor (roof top) seems to be a Spanish place that serves Japanese fast food.
They do a very nice coffee martini. There isn’t much view from the roof, but its warm and cosy. The crowd is very civilised. It is a great place for Friday night drinks.
Lester Rajapakse
As a bar strictly for the purpose of drinking it will meet your needs. The view from the rooftop is adequate as theres only one side of the bar that has a view and even that view is obscured by hunks at the gym on their phones between sets. The tables are a little dirty but it's not a huge concern. The real concern however is the food portions. First of all the fried chicken comes with hot sauce in a shot glass that doesn't accommodate the width of the chicken. Despite this over sight, once the hot sauce is on the chicken it does taste good. The only problem is the cost, $14 for chicken wings as pictured below and $8 for the fries is far too overpriced and not worth getting. I'm still hungry!

Great vibe; music, atmosphere and friendly service.
Excellent selection of drinks and original cocktails. Lovely little hidden gem. Rooftop is perfect.

This place has a pretty cool vibe. Nice rooftop bar. Friendly staff and reasonably priced booze.
I liked the way the place was set up, and the music they were playing wasn't bad.
It was quiet enough that I could have a conversation with my mates without yelling, but at the same time, it was noisy enough to drown out the ever present voice inside me that constantly reminds me of my own mortality and contributes to my growing sense of existential dread. 4/5 would come to forget my problems again.

Was in the city and googled roof top bars and it directed me there. Very rustic and themed towards students. Beer was good and lots of variety. Staff ok, didn't offer exceptional service but did their job. Yes I would go back it wouldn't cross town just to go there.

Pretty solid rooftop bar. I can't speak for the issues regarding the Zomato stuff but if you go into it with no expectations then it's pretty good. The smoking/eating areas could be a little bit better defined but that's a minor quibble and easily overlooked
Doc Ussher
Very nice rooftop bar! Prices are as expected for such a nice place, but great service and the Asian tapas menu (Japanese fried chicken & Japanese chicken skewers) is very authentic and delicious!! Definitely a summer evening special.

Great vibe. Massive rip off. $12 for less than a Schooner of beer on a weeknight. Poor form.

Looking at the reviews stating that Zomato Gold is not honoured, not too sure what’s going on but when I went, my Zomato Gold was honoured.

🗓 Visited in February 2020

This place does not honour zomato gold cocktails
David Girvan
Staff tried to explain they'd emailed zomato requesting to discontinue participation. I had already unlocked 2+2 drinks, but was met with refusal. Atmosphere was underwhelming regardless. To their credit they did refund door entry. Overall I'd steer clear in future.

Been here before, looking rundown nowadays. First surprise was that there is no longer food served, just drinks. So make sure you eat before dropping by.
Also just one person behind the bar serving drinks on a fairly busy night.

Didn’t honour Zomato gold. Even though venue had requested for deal to be taken down, deal was still up on the app. Manager was quite unfriendly about it too!
Dave
Refusing to honour Zomato 2-for-2 deal. I understand you’ve emailed Zomato. But until this deal is taken off the app, you should honour it. Poor form.
Gee
Denied use of Zomato Gold. Have been here many times over the years, but last night they flat out refused to honour Zomato Gold despite being promoted as a participating venue.

The place is great but does not accept zomato gold ... a disappointment when you arrive at the counter to redeem your offer
The Nasty Customer
The bartender forgot our order, however, a different one apologised and gave us some complimentary drinks. We used Zomato gold membership to redeem the drinks, it was good value for money

Good cocktails! And great view ! We went there on Friday night! Its located in the cbd close to the hustle bustle! Love the view too much! Will come again!

CLOSED without notice???

Make sure that you are open as per your opening hours to avoid patrons disappointment upon arrival.

Worse still, you've marketed your business online and you are not there to provide the service. JT-May 2019.

A little hard to locate on the busy street, but worth it! Went here on a quiet Saturday evening. They had their happy hour on at that time. The service is quick, the snacks are good, the drinks are great too! Would try them again some time soon!

I've been here a number of times for drinks and this review is more about the atmosphere of the bar.
Red Hummingbird is more a cosy bar, the mid-level has a few stools and lounges around in the dim environment.
Heading up the stairs to the rooftop, it opens out to a surprisingly large space with an extended area for smokers, and various benches and lounges around.
With lots of heaters around, it's a very comfortable ambiance with the night sky.
Music can be a little loud but not overbearing, so it's good for conversations.
Large range of drinks, cocktails and bar food available.

Came here for 1 quick drink the during the week the indoor area was not open, I was not too keen to be sitting on a rooftop bar outside in the winter, BUT the manager (i think) was great!

He walked us upstairs and not only were we seated in a cosy and covered space but we also had our own little portable heater too.
Thumbs up for great service...we ended up enjoying 2..ok 3 drinks each.

Pretty decent rooftop bar with the average drink selection. Would give it 3.5 stars overall. Came here on a Saturday night and left around 10pm before it got busy. Would revisit if I'm in the area again.

Was recommended by a mate to try out this place, was not disappointed. An awesome place to kick back and relaxed with a couple of drinks and jug.

Very nice place to wine and dine on a Tuesday night. My friends Blake and Matt really enjoyed themselves. The ambient atmosphere made for a wonderful meal, and the service was top of the line. Really helped me wind down from fighting for freedom.

One of my favourite rooftop pubs where I can observe people rushing on the streets. This place will be ideal for such a warm night when we can just chill and have some wine

Called past this good reliable old haunt of ours after our story telling bar experience around the corner. It’s good to know that when you need liquid refreshments in the form cocktail there are still bars out there like Red Hummingbird that can provide a quick reliable drink. One flight of stairs takes you to dimly lit and intimate interior level with roomy sitting areas and comfy seats. The next level up and certainly the most popular area of the night is the less spacious rooftop which had a very different vibe to downstairs... more energised and chatty.

Cocktails were good and we indulged in the karma sutra and the Red Hummingbird Signature drink. We almost went for a Pimms jug which was available but made a good call with both the cocktails we tried. Highly recommended. They offer a selection of sharing jug cocktails and also do your basic pub spread.

Very quiet for a Sunday night. Good space, nice staff, and decent drinks at okay prices. But the food was average and expensive. The chips were soggy and the meat chewy. So eat here if you're desperate for something to soak up the alcohol, but probably not worth it otherwise.
Good Food Good Mood

Red Hummingbird was one of my go to bars when I lived and worked a few streets away. Difficult to find without any signage or numbering the red birdcage would guide you in the right direction. It's been some years since I'd last visited and these days it's had a bit of a revamp under new management and the bright neon name can be seen from far across the street. Stairs are pretty much only acceptable to me when they lead to a rooftop bar and in this case you will find yummy cocktail jugs upon arrival. There's also a few intriguing beverages on the list including a jalapeño margarita and an alcoholic chai latte. I personally can't go past the deliciousness of their signature red hummingbird cocktail which is a fruity gin and chambord based concoction. I've never actually eaten here but the food is dirt cheap and seems to be the style intended solely to soak up alcohol, which seems wise when they are offering four shots for $30! A cute kitsch little place but somehow still not quite what it used to be

Small rooftop bar
Food below average strange combinations
The staff and security are extremely rude
Vodka came from an absolute bottle but tasted like the cheap aldi brand .
Would not attend this bar again. Nor would I recommend it

Finally was able to try this place out & loved it! I like how there's an indoor area with a dark ambience & a nice rooftop area. The place isn't big, it gave off a nice intimate feel. Also the Somersby apple cider was refreshing as :')
Master
Wow this place has gone downhill. Mismatched furniture, rickety tables, every second lightbulb is out and a bartender that couldn't give a toss about her job or the service of others. I struggle to find any good points of this shabby bar. Happy hour includes $5 pots of Carlton - that's not happy hour prices, that's a straight rip off! This place isn't even worth the energy you need to expel to climb the stairs.

The Red Hummingbird is a cute little rooftop nestled away in the CBD. The drinks menu is fairly good and the cocktails do taste good! Tapas on offer was also good and enjoyed by all of us who attended. It wasn't as crowded as we thought it should be on the night we went, but we are part of the "older" set so we may be becoming more favourable towards earlier bedtimes! Staff were helpful and very prompt at cleaning up after people. Will have to try again now that things have changed significantly!

The new management have turned this place around. Great vibe, great range of drinks and food was great. It's something special while also being comfortable. Looking forward to our next venture to the Red Hummingbird!

Went in for a few on halloween night and girl behind bar with eye on her head costume very rude and unprofessional... talking on phone instead of serving.. feel bad for the other staff members!

Only stayed few hours right after work so not very busy but gradually more people mingling around. Sat upstairs: comfy, heat lamps, undercover & non-undercover areas with view over russell st. Downstairs DJ started old school r&b, rock, etc from 7pm & upstairs music mix was also playing. Good, polite, friendly staff (came over with some free nibbles at one point) & had happy hour $5 ciders but plenty of other choices though relatively pricey at normal times. Food menu as well, general sort of pub nibbles. Overall impressed, nice vibe, music pleasant, service good, - would definitely come back.

This is mainly a cocktaik bar. A place to hang out with friends on a Friday night. My friends found this place by accident when we were looking for a place to have some drinks after our dinner. Had a couple of whiskey sours and an interesting cocktail with an orchid on it. As expected, prices are not cheap but my friends and I had fun and talked and talked. I just wish we didn't insist on sitting in the rooftop. Though the view was nice, it was way too cold.

Great music. Love this place. Will definitely be back !

The Red Hummingbird bar exudes a vibe that it has past its prime. With nothing but a bird cage and a picture of a red hummingbird to signify that there's a bar upstairs, my first impression of the Red H'bird is that it's a shabby city brothel. There is no shortage of boutique and funky watering holes around town (e.g., Bar Ampere, Goldilocks Bar, Toff in Town and Amarok to name a few) and the Red H'bird doesn't impress.
The World Loves Melbourne
This is a stylish mini bar carrying a collection of premium spirits and bespoke cocktails. Enjoy a glass of Champagne, a cocktail from the cocktail catalogue or perhaps a drink designed especially for you! We imbibed these refreshing cocktails served in jars.

simply a nice bar to grab a drink with your friends. It's nothing special or over the top but it maintains that bit of class that sets it apart from other venues. We've just come from Seamstress and are looking to continue drinking at a nearby venue that's not too grungy or feels cheap. Red Hummingbird fits what we are after as it doesn't have that "cheap" feel to it but it isn't too expensive at the same time. You won't get boutique drinks here as Red Hummingbird is rather commercial and mainstream. It's the older but smaller sister of Emerald Peacock . The same people run both venues. Red Hummingbird cocktail bar at around 9pm on Friday night At 8.30pm, we'r

We have spent the last few weeks in some of Melbournes great bars – most of them with intimate lighting that results in shocking pictures! But if you did fancy a adventure one night you might like to try some of these beauties! House of Maximon We have been hanging out in Corrs Lane for a long time, over the years we have seen many a good night in Fad Gallery, Euro Trash, Berlin Bar and some late night eats in Ants Bistro. But like all good spots they change and evolve and just below Berlin Bar is the eclectic, dark and fun House of Maximon. With the smell of popcorn wafting through the door and pumping music you can grab a booth or private little alcove and enjoy reasonable priced beers, a reasonable wine and I have no doubt some substantial tequilas! The Red Hummingbird A old favourite with a great rooftop for the warmer months and an intimate and cosy style The Red Hummingbird is a great little bar to kick back and enjoy. Strangely only serving Gossips wine the night we were there….

Wasn't fun. This place is actually quite nice. Has a rooftop balcony, friendly staff, and a nice vibe

However the crowd is quite old (coorporate people) when I went there even though it was a university holiday and a late saturday night. Also, overpriced for us uni kids when there's asian beer cafe and father's office just on the same street. Drinks here are nothing special.

Won't be coming back.

What a crap venue! I came in about a year ago and had a great night out, now it looks as if it had its sole ripped out. All wines are re branded cleanskins! They don't even have a proper cocktail list and they're a cocktail bar?
Annalise
Always humming on the weekend. Favourite melbourne bar with an iconic rooftop and nice bar staff. Can be over crowded with the afterwork crowd but worth bearing, especially if friends from out of town are visiting.

RETRACTION. I apologise, Red Hummingbird is not closed, I discovered this after going to the sister establishment, Emerald Peacock. They informed me it doesn't open on Tuesdays during the colder months and weren't at all surprised to learn that the contact info available was incorrect and disconnected.
I would suggest keeping punters informed of changes in opening times via the website and placing a sign at the entrance in future.
Green Spirit
Flying solo on the roof. I went here a few weeks ago with a friend, it is all in all a sleek and cool place, but sadly didn't have much of a crowd..

Pleasant, petite. I'm not sure how Red Hummingbird managed to land on a restaurant review website. They're a cocktail bar. Nonetheless, it takes its place on the list of small, eclectic, discreet bars in Melbourne. The roof top bar is pleasant, even in the rain, and the cocktails involve serious effort.
Ben Sanderson might go there for dinner, but i can't suggest anyone else does.
Anita Jennings
Rooftop bar. A favourite of mine in summer, also great to hire out as the rooftop bar serves as a private space with spectacular views of the city.

Red Hummingbird provides plenty of comfortable seating and intimate spaces.
In Your Pants
Red bank balance. Its a bar.
It has no beer on tap.
A night of drinks there and your bar tab would be approaching the cost of a manned mission to the moon.
It has hipster dufus clients like these guys in the image.
If your not pretentious, you will feel out of place.
.
.
What else do you need to know?
.
.
.
Avoid.

RIP OFF!!!-Surcharges- Deny these charlatans their unjustified due!. Really nice ambience, lighting and décor with an upstairs area that is open with a nice cool wind coming in, gas heaters and a lovely tree lit up with red lights.

The two Coronas I bought, came in at under $20, so I was told I couldn't use my credit card for an amount under $20. No problem, this is common at most places. So I said I would buy three Coronas, and then informed that there would be a surcharge for buying three drinks.

And that is what is wrong with this place. Talk about a deliberate policy to screw a little more money out the customer. Is it not enough that we buy your drinks, that you need to gouge a surcharge out of us too? It seems to me that good business sense would be to encourage customers to buy drinks, not penalize for doing so.

Cannot for the life of me understand the logic, just left me feeling shafted. It's a shame too because as I said, the décor and ambience were great, but WON'T BE BACK.

Setting taste buds aflutter. Last night I went to The Red Hummingbird with friends to celebrate the end of an era.The interior of the bar was beautiful designed, using a colour pallet of warm reds and rich mahogany. I loved the eclectic furnishings such as assortment of bird cages around the room. The atmosphere was very relaxed and there was a DJ playing ambient music (softly enough that you could have a conversation).

The cocktail menu was extensive and after much deliberation, I had a Red Hummingbird cocktail and my friend had a Burnt Orange Bourbon cocktail. My cocktail had rum, guava nectar, fresh strawberries, and vanilla syrup. It was very sweet but lovely and refreshing at the same time. The best bit about the Burnt Orange Bourbon cocktail was watching it be made. The bartender brought out a blowtorch to burn the oranges and sugar which gave it a subtle smouldering taste. My friend described it as a "real man's cocktail".

The Red Hummingbird was the perfect place for a great night with old friends.

Terrible! Deceptive, rude and manager has no sense of humour. An elegant and classy group of 12 girls on a hens day were told to leave as some of us had cute costumes on, even the bride to be was not able to wear her veil. This was after we had all ordered $17 drinks! Don't go there!!
Foodie Cravings
Nice atmosphere for a couple of drinks.

A nice venue but such pretentious and shady bar staff and a very dishonest Manager. Bascic spirits cost $9.50 here which doesn't do anything to help the appeal of this venue. Not even classy establishments charge that! Watch for the hidden charges and check your change (if you receive any that is).

Great wine bar with a nice deck up top that has a seperate bar. Service is very attentive.
