Great food, great service, never have to wait for food and rarely missing ordered item. Love this place!! The quality of the food is really good and fresh!!
We loved the food, especially the beef wraps were to die for! The dumplings were also amazing, But the waiter guy was rude and seemed like he didn't want to be there and didn't want to take our order.
The greatest criticism I can level at this place is that the food was slightly slow to arrive. Other than that it was excellent. The menu is large and the food excellent. The dumplings are as good as any in Melbourne. The fried pork intestine with Sichuan pepper was amazing. Seriously good Taiwanese food.
Great place for a cheap eat and an authentic tawainese styled meal! I love the crispy chicken here and the beef wrapped in spring onion pancake! The tea eggs here are also really yummy!

š©Lizzie enjoyed: we tried a few of their dumpling dishes and it was delicious. The pan fried pork dumplings were made well - with some juice still left inside. Crispy on the outside and a great colour.
We tried the chilli oil dumplings which were flavoured really well. Also tried the noodles with dry peanut and Sichuan chilli sauce and it was amazing.

Lizzie did not enjoy: seating is a little cramped and had to share tables with another couple, but staff are receptive and service was quite quick.

The pork pan fried dumplings are great and we are planning to give a shot to other items as well.
The restaurant seems crowded most of the times (at least every time we were there), but finding a seat may not be impossible. :)

The food here is great, definitely very authentic. We had kungpo chicken on rice and popcorn chicken on rice. For $13 each , the portion is massive. Very delicious and satisfying.

Looking forward to hearing to Taiwan in the very near future so had to try New Taipei to see what type of food I'd be trying. I was impressed with the range of choices on the menu and decided to go with the chicken cutlets that were beautifully deep fried to perfection. The portion size was generous. All washed down with a Taiwan beer - made it all that much better. The prices were reasonable. The staff were very efficient and lovely big smiles with every interaction. Eat in or takeaway but I'd suggest stop and enjoy this place. It's quite lovely amongst so much competition. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram and stroller accessible. Nice and close to the tram stop.
Havenāt tried lots of Taiwanese food but I would say this shop is pretty good. I had tried many dishes from this store and never disappointed me. For today, we had special fried rice, stir fried vermicelli and steamed pork and prawn dumplings. We enjoyed very much.
Will I be back? Yes!
A great place for some set meals. Most of them are Taipei styled dishes, including the deep fried chicken cutlets and Taiwan sausages. Which are the two typical dishes you want to try in this restaurant. The sausages Have different stages of flavors, from the salt to the sweetness from the fat, then changed to the herbal gentle flavor. The texture is more like a tender and thick cut Italian salami. Also, no need to say, the chicken cutlet goes extremely well with beers, have fun.
New Taipei has gone through several iterations but always served up a Taiwanese fare. Has it gotten better? I have no idea to be honest, visits have been pretty spread out over the years. It's always busy but then again, it's near one of the most busiest intersections in Melbourne.
We share some XLBs, the soup is rich with pork broth. A negative, the wrappers weren't very durable and couldn't hold the weight, some just tore on the bottom spilling the lot. I wonder however if they still serve their king sized XLB (I didn't notice it on the menu).
I also got your standard beef noodle soup which had a lovely beefy broth, the star anise really comes through nicely (I drank the lot). I beef brisket ranged from slightly tough to tender, the noodles were lovely strands and not overcooked. The optional soy eggs were hard boiled and gave off an umami hit.
Not many Taiwanese restaurants in Melbourne so hopefully they'll stick around for awhile.
Was looking for a place for a late dinner and went in after having a quick scan of the menu. The waiter was polite and the food came out very quickly. The Xiao Long Bao was quite nice but Iāve had similar for a slightly cheaper price, but the highlight dish for me was the Beef and Tomato Egg Fried Rice. Iāve been craving it ever since!
We were hit with an unexpected craving for dumplings while shopping in the city and decided to satisfy this unsettling craving at New Taipei. We ordered the pan fried pork dumplings which were well fried - the dumplings were filled to the edge with meaty pork and the crispy dumpling skin was perfect.
We also had the pan fried spicy beef dumplings which had an adequate amount of spice intermingled with the beef.
We came in here with cravings, we left feeling satisfied.......mission accomplished!

Normal Chinese restaurant, the chicken is too salty l. Noodle is good but soup taste like plain. The environment is so small and crowdly, but the steam pork bun is amazing and the only dish I can give five starts.
Food is yummy and authentic! My children devoured the fried chicken, the dumplings are yum, especially the wonton is chilli oil (a personal favourite) the chilli and nuts was delightful and the skin smooth and silky.
The xiao long bao were delicious and the Taiwanese sausage yum!
The servings were very generous - I also ordered the hot sour soup and for $5.50 - the bowl was large enough to serve four people!
The only reason why I didnāt give 5/5 is because of the service. Staff was not very friendly and we had to ask numerous times for chopsticks and bowls (how did he expect us to eat without chopsticks?!)
Fast weekend lunch, chicken was fried well and did not taste oily. Seasoning for the chicken could have been more thorough and even, some pieces lacked seasoning. The egg yolk was perfectly oozy even though it looks over fried. Would go back again to try something else.
Friendly staffs! Exquisite noodles and pork dumplings. Very large portion, guaranteed youāll be very full. Nice ambience and reasonable price.
Things I love about this place: Well lit and cozy; good customer service; quantity and quality of food is very good for what you pay for; flavourful food from the first bite.
Things to know beforehand: Used to be called Taiwanese Cafe before the renovation and still contains most (if not all) the old menu; picture on menu is NOT what you receive in real life (cold noodle looked completely different and the tomato rice was not really red at all like the picture told us to believe).

Ambience: The place has two floors, a bit cramped but not uncomfortable. There are two floors, we sat on the first floor.
Service: The staffs are not very friendly, but unlike many of the reviews, they're not rude. At least they say thank you when we left the place.
Food: I had their beef slice noodle soup, it's actually pretty good! The noodle was just cooked right and has that chew to it, but i think they cut the noodles so it's not the normal noodle length (i think so). The soup itself was rich, though like many Chinese restaurants i can taste some MSGs, it's also a bit sweet for my palate. The beef slice was pretty generous though, and cooked really well, same goes with the veg.
My sis had their fried tofu with garlic sauce, it's really well fried, not oily and crispy on the outside, soft inside. The sauce I liked but probably needed more if you're to eat it with rice, so my sister puts some soy sauce to it. She however thought it was a bit too sweet for her taste.
My second visit I had their stir fried noodle with beef which tasted pretty good (though can be too flavourful), has a bit of a fishy taste to it, I still liked the noodle texture, and the meat was pretty generous and tender. Also had their beef and coriander pan fried dumplings which was enjoyable but was oily, the same goes for the vegetable dumplings.
Price: Reasonable price i'd say, for the portion and taste.

I am not sure what others expect from this restaurant but I lived in Taiwan for 10 years and my Taiwanese wife finds the food here to be authentic and, as mentioned by other reviewers, the xiao long bao is something to die for.Ā The chilled tofu and preserved eggs may not be to everyone's tastes but I loved it.
Ambience?Ā No, this is not a restaurant with soft lights and stand-by waiters.Ā It is a place to enjoy the taste.Ā My wife and I visit Melbourne every year and never miss a meal at the New Taipei

I had the Sichuan Spicy Beef la mian and panfried pork dumplings. The noodle soup was delicious, the beef was tender, the noodles soft and the broth an enjoyable level of spice (for a laowai not too experienced with spicy food). The dumplings were juicy, not perfect but better than most places ive eaten from recently. Anyway, wouls deffs recommend :)

Good Taiwanese place to enjoy comfort food. The pop fried chicken tasted pretty nice but not as crispy as I hoped for. The minced pork rice tasted pretty decent.

Surprisingly good dumplings, not all are good; Lamb & Beef ... however we've found a new favourite, Luffah, yes, the same thing to rub your back in the shower.

Not sure why the rating is so low. I have been here twice and both the times food was good. Their dumplings are really good, very juicy. And their soup dishes are nice too, can't remember the names. Good quantity as well. A decent restaurant on the busy Swanston Street.
Real Taiwanese waitresses here with a soft Chinese Asian vibe as you eat. Food came relatively quickly,
Loved the creativity of a lot of items in the menu. There are quite a few dishes that are Chinese Taiwanese fusion that i haven't seen in any other restaurant. The spicy fish dumplings were really flavoursome and juicy, although they look completely different from the picture in the menu (in which they were in shape of fish but actually they are just shaped the same way as any other dumplings. My partner ordered beef wrap and it tasted out of this world -- wrap was freshly made, so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside,and together the beef and sauce in the wrap it was so perfect! We will definitely go back soon

This place seems to be busy every day - service has definitely upped a notch since the last time I visited - the waiter I had was lovely polite and attentive. I ordered vegetarian steamed dumplings and red bean pancake. Food was served very fast, considering the number of patrons they had that day and both dishes were very delicious. The filling in the vege dumplings seems to be Gai Lan or something equally bitter, so it's just something to be aware of if you're thinking of ordering it in the future. Red bean pancake was also deep fried to perfection. In terms of seating, just be aware that you may be forced to share tables with strangers due to their limited space so make sure to take care of your belongings!
Popped in after an event to grab a table here. We were starving so lucky for us the service was quick. Table service and the menu had accompanying photos of each dish to make the choices easier. We started with edamame and some cucumber with garlic and chilli. Water was brought to the table and we ordered a couple of soft drinks as well. Next came fried chicken with sweet chilli sauce and my fried rice- with egg! I didn't realise there was egg so they took it away and made me one without egg! So nice of them - we took the original eggy one with us in a takeaway container for my partners breakfast. Another meal of chicken , mushrooms and rice was well received too. Friendly and efficient with generous serves made our first visit to a Taiwanese restaurant a real treat.

Came here on a busy Saturday night. There are lots of options and the kitchen and surrounds were surprisingly clean - however upstairs wasn't as tidy.
I ordered the Vegetarian Fried Rice and the Pork Dumplings ( serving of 12), and both came out in good time.
The Vegetarian Fried Rice was packed full of vegetables (peas, mushrooms, etc) however was a little smaller when compared to the fried rice of the table next us (a little inconsistent). There was not a lot of flavour, but when soy sauce, chilli oil, and vinegar was added, it complemented the dumplings nicely. The waitress was also lovely in finding out if there was egg in it (there is) for us. Overall was not a bad dish and would order it again.
The Pork Dumplings were delicious! Simply pork and chive with a little broth, they came out quickly and could tell they were fresh. The wrapper was just a touch thick, but wasn't dis-tasteful at all. They were hot and comforting; full of flavour.
It cost roughly $23 too.
I enjoyed this place and would come back again for a cheap meal.

Ordered the Stew Lamb LaMian.
It had the right amount of spice for an Indian of a cold day. The lamb welas tender and had a really strong flavour.

Decided to grab some takeaway for dinner one night. We ordered XO Fried Rice, popcorn chicken, deep fried tofu, seafood dumplings, fried green beans, and fried egg yolk prawns. Although the food was a little doggy from being boxed up for a while, it still tasted delicious! Would definitely recommend their egg yolk prawns and popcorn chicken!
The only let down, however, was that the dumplings were a little overcooked (there were bits of black on the outside). But overall, their dishes tasted really good!
I'll definitely be going back again soon to actually eat inside the restaurant - also looking forward to trying their soup dumplings!
This place replaced Taiwan cafe but has a similar range of dishes. Tried the Xiao long bao which has a nice juicy broth and flavoursome meat filling. Steamed dumplings were a bit overcooked but the meat filling was well made. Taiwanese popcorn chicken was well battered and seasoned. Overall, a good place to eat.
I was attracted to this restaurant because of the huge soup dumplings. It's definitely gimmicky and not as tasty as the original xiao long bao. However it's still fun to drink the soup from the dumpling using a straw. The meat proportion is ok as to keep its juiciness. We also tried the spicy...
First time being here with friend's
We order shanghai soup dumpling that was highly recommend to those who love juicy dumpling.
Other than that, we order three cook chic which the flavour is not at all. Just can taste the soy sauce flavour only.
Mapo tofu was good as well.
Overall dining was good experience but the waitress did not serve us soup spoon to eat the juicy dumpling. Hope you can make it for the next time when I visit again
The best place to go if you are craving Taiwanese food. Very flavourful and authentic. The service is quick as well! Also they have certain dishes that aren't found easily in Melbourne, like Oyster vermicelli and crispy beef wraps. The taste is quite delicious and nostalgic!
