Love visiting the Duke, a great atmosphere especially for private events and in springtime! A little overpriced but good food. Will visit again!
Lovely little rooftop bar. Due to covid, things had to be done a little differently, such as booking ahead, leaving our contact details at the door, separate booths and contactless ordering of food and drinks. The ambience is intimate yet fun, and the food was so far so good. I ordered a calamari side which came with ranch dressing. I definitely want to come back to try more food, the parma was huge and looked amazing!
Side note, the service was impeccable. Even though social distancing was the order of the day, the staff were still friendly and attentive. One waitress even offered to take photos for us and sent them to our phones directly from her. She went above and beyond to make sure that we enjoyed our time there, and that little touch is why I'm giving five stars without having tried most of the menu yet.
I used to come to the Duke on a Friday for after work drinks, I enjoyed it back then and I enjoyed my visit here recently too.
The bar has different levels, we were seating at the top bar which was nice and comfortable.
A great selection of tap beer, my beer went down a treat being on such a hot day. I ordered the Duke cheeseburger which was really tasty! I loved everything about this burger and fries were very nice too.
A great spot to come for either a bite or drink, we had such a lovely time.
Enormous parma good to fit 3 people! Other foods are ok. Great variety of craft beers and a nice rooftop bar to chillout and have a chat with colleagues.
Fab rooftop bar in the city. Fun vibes, good music, delicious bar snacks and drinks. Lasagne croquettes !!!!! Get in my belly. We’ve had lots of good times here... always good for a few drinks, snacks and then a little boogie on the dance floor.
We called into the Duke last night for a few drinks ahead of seeing a concert at the Forum. It was packed but we found a table upstairs in the wine bar area which is a much nicer spot than downstairs anyway. G&T’s were strong and there was a great selection of gin to boot. I’ve eaten here before and enjoyed the food but have previously found the service a little clunky with timings. That was over a year ago so thing may have improved.
A warm and friendly pub, in a great corner location in the CBD, The Duke is a good spot for a few after work drinks, or a catch up with friends. It has a nice fitout, with large open spaces and comfortable seating. We never have had a problem being served, and it's often quite busy; so the staff are great.
The dining room also looks good, but we've only ever been here for drinks. The menu does sound delicious though, so we will have to come back to try the food. From my experience, the Duke is a cool spot for some drinks with friends, and we've always enjoyed our time here.
A place with great atmosphere and perfect to hang with friends after work. I've only ever ordered drinks from this place and they were all good so five stars for me. I usually order a lemon lime bitters as I don't drink.
Rooftop bar staff are super friendly, made sure I would enjoy my drink and catered to my needs to ensure a pleasant wine experience.
Food was good.
Been here a bunch of times over the years. The last time I went wasn’t long ago but I’m currently not drinking because I need a break from alcohol for a while. so far done 3 months and not sure how long I’ll keep going. Great place to just like chill and chat with friends and the food is nice too.
Came here for a work lunch, and I went for the standard pub option (i.e. the chicken Parma). Serving size was generous and overall pretty tasty. Good vibes, will definitely be back.

The Duke of Wellington is a popular pub located in the heart of Melbourne. However, I’m going to cut right to the headliner.. the main event.
We visited The Duke for one sole purpose. To try the “Larmigiana”.
The Duke has combined two of our all time favourite dishes. A Chicken Parmigiana and a cheesy Lasagne.
Sounds like heaven? It was. It lived up to expectation, and more.
The crumbed chicken is layered with all your traditional toppings, but then comes the ‘goodness’. The sheet of lasagne followed by sauce and oozy cheese. If that isn’t enough on it’s own.. The dish also comes with a side of well seasoned crispy chips, and a small garden salad.
Easily would recommend not only this pub, but this meal. As a major food lover - I don’t say this lightly, but this dining experience is one I will never forget.

Really like the atmostphere here just perfect for Friday night after work! They have so many spaces both outdoor indoor. We had some drinks and a bowl of chips which was delish! The staff were nice and friendly.
Great place. Great range of beers and wine with a solid bar menu. Prices are on par with inner Melbourne spots. The roof top is a great environment for drinks and food. Service is also on the money. Recommended for meet ups or just for an ale or three.
I love it at the Duke - always a really cool pumping atmosphere! Perfect place for an after work drink on Friday with a bowl of chips (which are DELICIOUS). I love that they serve Domain Chandon sparkling by the glass. Downstairs is cool like a typical pub, on level 1 is a nice restaurant and then the rooftop on level 2 is more of a social/party vibe! Plenty of TVs to watch the footy. Excellent venue in a good location!
Nice place to watch footy with my gang and Friday drinks. Always packed when there is game on, it is relatively relaxing after the game. Figure foods are tasty, love the fries and calamari.
This place is absolutely bursting one minute, and dead calm the next. Being in close proximity to the MCG, the Tennis Centre and the rectangular stadium, the crowd ebbs and flows with the timekeepers' announcements. The pub itself is well-geared to catering to large groups, though when it's full of boozy punters hopped up on blind optimism you won't hear yourself think. Standard steak & chips (with pepper sauce) appears in minutes. Decent sized serve, and not a bad steak for the price. High volume, low fuss casual dining done well.
Best veggie burger in Melbourne! Love the spicy lentil burger, and the avo & mango salad is really fresh tasting & super filling. Level 1 is really nice for dinner & drinks and the service is always really friendly.
When someone suggests to me dinner at a pub they better mean a pub like The Duke. Good food, great atmosphere and killer cocktails. In fact my only complaint is the removal of several delicious desserts from the menu. The phenomenal chocolate tart they used to do and the ginormous Eton mess.
The menu is actually pretty interesting for a pub although I do despair of places that have a regular parma and then a lady parma. I can pretty much guarantee you I can out eat any man be it parmas or otherwise. Definitely get the baked Camembert to share. I've replicated it at home to mouthwatering success
I recently visited the Duchess, which sits above the Duke (same venue) and a more formal setting and service. I arrived during cocktail hour which was just what I needed (all cocktails were $11). The menu wasn't the usual pub foods, although there was a few familiar items. It was the steak night which included a glass of wine. The steak was very tasty and cooked exactly to my liking. I then had a dessert which was just amazing, honestly amazing.
The waiter was attentive without hovering and always happy to help out with questions and recommendations. One of the best waiters I've had for a long time.
Highly recommend this place, weeknights would quite. Definitely book.
We were strolling around in the cool evening twilight & noticed this welcoming rustic style hotel. Well not so much noticed, we did need a drink (again) So we decided on dinner as well to line the stomach! The salmon was my selection, cooked perfectly with those Caesar potatoes & baby spinach. Partners eye steered toward the Darling Downs scotch fillet (our local specialty area close to Brissy for beef) Being the carnivore which he refuses to change despite my heartfelt pleas! Oh well each to his own -said it was great!
Fab food and drinks! Pleasant bartenders. Very popular for work functions. I have been here numerous times for work events and drinks and this place always provides a pleasant experience.
Renovation looks great! Had essentially what was the fish and chips. Both fish and chips were very crispy; sauces were yummy. Perfect for a chill dinner with a large group of people.
I've only had the parma here, but it's well worth a visit just for the parma. Tasty, perfectly cooked schnitzel, sauce with a good amount of zing and the fries had a really good sprinkling of chicken salt.
I have to go back to try the rest of the menu. But the parma is well worth the trip.
Great eggs benedict. Sauce was not too tangy with a nice rosti as the base. Healthy amount of bacon which is always great to see. Waiting staff were on the ball which is great given its an early start.
Update: Have been back since, using a voucher given to me by The Duke to entice me to come back and give it another go, and I had a delicious meal (the parma is outstanding, so delicious, and the fries very tasty), service was friendly and food came out quick. Would definitely go back again after my second more positive experience.

Chose the Duke due to closeness to the Forum as we had a show to go to. We allowed 1.5hrs, assuming being a pub the meals would be quick. We told the waitress we had a show to go to. After sitting down it took about 15 min for the waitress to return to take our order. Between 4 of us we ordered a burger, hot dog, calamari and saganaki dish, all pretty quick to make dishes. The dining room wasn't very busy (but maybe there were lots of orders from downstairs?). The meals took another 45 min to come out, by this time we were getting worried we wouldn't finish dinner in time for the show, and was about to go enquire where our meals were. Our meals came out about an hour after being seated, and I can only speak for the burger and hot dog but they were underwhelming in taste, particularly the hot dog. I also had ordered a wine when they took our orders and 15 minutes later had to get a waitresses attention to ask where it was. This place is such a central pub with so much going for it, let down on this occasion by average tasting food and slow service. Based on this experience I probably wouldn't go back for a meal and would just stick to the pub/pre game drinks. Staff were friendly but need to pick up their game.
Good for a before the game burger or Parma. Meals very generous and beer is good. A bit noisy for me. Blaring music catering for the younger set. Lots of bar areas and live footy on a big screen.
Came here for my birthday dinner and we weren't disappointed. Got served by a staff on his 1st day on thr job but he was well-trained, friendly and always attentative. Food was awesome and particularly enjoyed the beef tartare and the Violet Crumble dessert. Excellent atmosphere without the noise and overcrowding often experienced in the CBD. Overall very pleased and will definitely come back!
I've always had mixed feelings about this bar. When it first opened it felt unfinished and cold with little to no atmosphere. Over time I've come to like The Duke for what it is, a good little sports bar in the heart of the city. It's a great location to meet before heading to the MCG.
So last Sunday before the grand final rematch against Hawthorn and West Coast, I suggested we meet here and grab some lunch. The problem with The Duke is inconsistency, especially with the food. I've been here on several occasion for lunch and dinner with mixed results. Mostly it's not bad, this day wasn't to be a good day.
I ordered the steak sandwich which had Beetroot relish, egg, cheese and tomato relish. Firstly the steak was way over cooked and burnt, so it had that charcoal flavour, and not in a good way. Secondly it was missing the tomato relish, so I had to revert to adding the tomato sauce that was provided on our table. It was a pity because if the steak was cooked correctly it would have been a great steak sandwich, because all the other elements were there. Even the egg was cooked perfectly.
The others in my party had the hamburgers, which all looked great, and the feedback from my mates was positive. (Note to self order the hamburger next time).
As I said, it's a great bar for catching up with friends etc, and the staff mostly seem to be a friendly mob and you certainly are made to feel welcome. I'll be back, but maybe just for drinks.
The Duke of Wellington is a pub which serves a great cup of coffee as well as delicious food. Starving one day at work, I decided to head down to the Duke for a mid-afternoon meal.
I ordered some delicious chicken nibbles as an entrée. It had a nice spicy sauce which made the dish delectable. I then had a steak with vegetables which was the icing on the cake. I was craving a dose of iron and the steak didn't disappoint!
The staff are friendly and quite courteous. Highly recommend the Duke for a coffee and/or a meal.
Top notch. Parma's here would be one of the best in Melbourne. Great selection of beer available. Chicken burger was very nice. Glad to see one of the oldest pubs in Melbourne back to one of the top places to go again.
Friendly and attentive staff! Came here for a work lunch, had the chicken wing entree and parma main. Chicken wings were nice and saucy definitely not for people watching their waistline, sauce was nice but heavy, I could only eat 2 because they were deliciously bad. The parma was above average given the chicken was crisp and not soggy, the coleslaw is a nice and refreshing change from plain garden salad.
Great selection of beers too.
Great tasting food and drinks at a fraction of the regular CBD restaurant prices, a true treasure of Melbourne. Took my girlfriend out to a special meal and treated her to a fantastic meal at such a excellent price. Recommend it to everyone.
A casual and comfortable option for a tasty meal after work. I ordered the pan fried salmon with apple, fennel and radish salad with celeriac puree and was pleasantly surprised. Much better than your average pub grub.
Great place, enjoyed the vibes, the food was amazing, the staff were very friendly, also meet some of the Collingwood players there too, great place, great food
The Duke of Wellington is unlike your typical street corner city pub. Well so it seems on a Thursday night anyway. Embraced by warm decor and equally warm greeting from the maître d'. The Duke makes you feel as if you've just stepped in front of a fireplace, walking in from the cold streets of Melbourne CBD. A reminder this is on a Thursday night....it's the calm before the (Friday night) storm. The 300g scotch fillet was cooked to perfection, well almost. Slightly too salty, but only just. Nevertheless it was delicious and juicy. Tenderness was on par as the medium rare was complimented by pepper sauce that would send the tastebuds asking for more. But be careful not to over-pour as too much is well...simply just too much. To top it off, the deconstructed apple pie was a fitting dessert. The only thing I didn't do was lick the plate clean. A revisit is a definite must.
Came along for a quick bite before the football and got a nice steak and wine special. We chose the red which was a lovely Shiraz. Steak was medium rare as requested.
The local watering hole is a meeting place for friends, colleagues, family dinners and big nights out alike. As a nation, you could sort of call us experts. One of the stalwarts of the Melbourne pub scene is The Duke of Wellington. It is located in the heart of the CBD, so is a favourite of corporates for a Friday night drink or boozy lunch. It is always pumping before a footy game and even has an upstairs dining area, The Dutchess, for those who prefer it just a little bit fancy.
When I was reading the reviews for The Duke of Wellington for an upcoming lunch function I was a bit worried about what to expect. I decided to play it safe and order The Napoleon Burger and to my surprise it was actually decent. I also enjoyed the seasoned chips on the side. Thought the food was a bit pricey but I guess that's cause it's in the CBD.
There is so much to love about The Duke of Wellington! From the amazing energy and buzz that greets you as you walk through the door, to the fantastic service, warm décor and very delicious food. Definitely get down on Friday night, the live music and DJ are awesome!
We visited The Duke of Wellington early on a Saturday evening before heading to catch some footy at the 'G. It was busy downstairs, but up on the first floor where we'd booked a table it was less packed, the decor was more modern and chic too. We ordered some drinks and soon after picked out our meals from the shortish menu. Bruce went for the $25 Steak and Wine deal, with parsley butter, chips and salad. Apart from a little gristle he seemed to enjoy it.
First time visiting this place. The decor inside is very nice and interesting to look at. It doesn't have that dirty old beer pub smell which was really nice for a change. The premises and toilets were clean. There are three levels, which at first we found a bit confusing of where we were meant to be going to eat. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. My favourite was the Halloumi dish, amazing!! I also had the gnocchi which was good and chicken pieces which were moist and full of flavour. We were able to order from our table which was nice not to have to get up and figure out who and how to split the bill. Food came out pretty quickly which was good. I don't drink, but had a lemon lime bitters which was on point. My friends enjoyed the alcohol a lot!!
Most of the staff were really nice, one person I am hoping was just having a rough night!
Nice British style pub. Prices are reasonable and the food quality was decent too! Service is pretty quick even at busy times.
A totally Aussie laid back atmosphere, replete with sports channels and great food to accompany. A must visit for a leisurely few hours, when in Melbourne.
Went to Duke for dinner last night. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, clean premises.
We had the classic parmi, chicken strips and the Haloumi. The food was excellent, chicken strips were tender, the parmi was fantastic and the haloumi was full of flavour. Could not recommend the haloumi any higher.
Great location and a nice lil hideaway spot to meet friends.
A great atmosphere; busy and vibrant. The footy was on the big screens in the bistro, so catered for all. Drinks and meals were a little pricey for a pub but they were good. One was a little cold for Karen though 😜 We were a table of 10 and ordered through the Mr Yum app, but table service was offered too. Ricardo and Maggie were fabulous and very attentive. Ricardo brought out our birthday celebration at just the right time and they provided cakes/spoons which was great. I booked the table online which was easy. I have been here a couple of times before (for different events) and it’s always great. The rooftop is beautiful. I highly recommend The Duke.
The food was great - easy to order , the staff were friendly and accommodating. Great vegan options is always a plus 🤩
There aren't many places in the CBD where I feel confident taking the kids for dinner but this one was a winner. Good kids menu, good grown-up menu, great variety of drinks. Lots of space split across multiple levels. Good ambient noise. Service was quick and responsive.
