Deliciously rich dark chocolate mudcake wiith extra cream and strawberries on the side to balance out the velvety mudcake. A must try!!
3.5. I loved the mocha from this store. The bitterness of the coffee and the richness of the creamy chocolate is balanced so well.
The original pavlova is good but the matcha one needs some improvement in flavour.
Had this on my list to visit for so long and finally went yay, they had only just opened for the day when we got there but they still gave us great service! Ordered the matcha lave cake, choc pavlova and affogato and matcha hot chocs. I originally wanted the houjicha icecream with my lava cake but they only had 3 flavours available so I went with more matcha. The chef put a lot of effort into the food and drinks and it was well presented and tasted great! Totally felt a bit sick afterwards but I think I had way too much matcha lol. Definitely coming back to try the other desserts soon!
The smallest slice and this Lava Cake will bursts with warm Chokolait sauce! đ«đ
The most delicious chocolate treat you can possibly come across in Melbournes CBD! Need to finish off with a dessert? Then donât go past this gem!
Chocolate lava cake was extremely good!!i cant believe i found one of the best best best produce cake place in melbourne! even the chef was very attentive and friendly. The cake is perfectly dense, smooth.. the texture is soft but chewy, the chocolate was perfectly melt in my mouth. The inside still melting and then i go with the classic vanilla ice cream to eat with.,best combo ever! Pretty presentation on plate, looking so luxurious..
I will be back for sure!!!

Been visiting this location for a number of years now, discovered it by accident actually and have been revisiting ever since. The staff are very friendly, polite and welcoming, itâs a small outlet but big on taste, variety and atmosphere. I love chocolate and all I can say is try their hot chocolate drinks, youâll always go back.
This place was recommended by a local tour guide as the best chocolate place in Melbourne (based on his personal opinion). It is somewhat hidden in the Arcade. The sign is visible, but you need to turn the corner to find the place. It is well worth a visit! The deserts are amazing here! The prices may seem a bit high, but the portions are generous. My friend and I shared one and it was just right. With that in mind it is actually very reasonably priced compared to other places. If you are in Melbourne and love chocolate and desserts, this place is for you.
We came here based on the recommendation from my colleague. The place is tucked away in a small alley way on lt. collins. I was immediately drawn into their matcha dessert selection, ended up ordering the green tea lava pudding with houjicha ice cream. The dish came looking stunning with luscious chocolate sauce topped with sprinkled gold powder and more importantly it tasted so good. The tea flavour definitely came out but not overpowering on both the ice cream and the cake. The cake was soft, moist and warm. We were happy to have found this place. I hope that business is going well for this place since we did not see too many patrons when we were there.
Lovely desserts and matcha latte/drinks. Might be on the pricey end but no regrets. The Matcha slices, cakes are beautifully presented. The hot matcha latte is one of the best I had. Creamy and yet not sweet. Great service by the elderly patteserie. Its quiet and nice to hang out with friends or for couples. Love it. Will definitely come again.đđđ
This is an instagram worthy dessert place if you want those aesthetic flicks! The desserts are creatively presented and the ambience was nice to have a chat with friends. It was not overly loud in there but also not overly quiet.
Not all things on the menu will be available on the day as the chef makes them on the day. We came to try the âMatcha queenâ and âCherry blossomâ. To our disappointment, cherry blossom was not available on the day. However, I love love love the matcha queen. It was intricately made with many layers and each layer was rich in its elements. All the flavours blend in well together. One of the best desserts Iâve had for a very reasonable price. Definitely will return!
Love, love, love this place. Just stumbled on it and it was a fantastic choice. Delicious desserts perfectly balanced and iced dark chocolate was smooth, tasty and not too rich. Great service and food

Chokolaitâs Little Collins was the original store, later opening a second location in Emporium, but a recent change has seen Little Collins transform into Matcha by Chokolait to cater for the growing Asian crowd.
I had been eagerly wanting to try this matcha mecca for as while and finally got the chance to drop by. My friend and I had a filling meal beforehand so we shared a Matcha Queen. The staff recommended it and stated that it is one of the most popular dishes.
Presentation wise, the dish was adorable and lovely. I would honestly say the Yuzu flavour overtook the matcha a little. Other than that the cake was tasty and the perfect post-lunch treat.
Not a fan of matcha, but I was told this was the best and I actually fell in love! The matcha ice cream, matcha lava cake and the matcha hot chocolate were unbelievable. YOLO! #noregrets! #doittoday!
This lovely hidden gem (used to be known as just Chokolait) is hidden in the royal arcade just off Bourke St and Little Collins. It's very secluded and romantic atmosphere, a perfect date spot! I love coming here for the dark ice chocolate. The chef and waiters are beyond friendly and very welcoming, and I recommend this cafe when you just feel the need to take a break from the bustling streets in Melbourne, especially on a rainy winter's day. Aiming to coming back to try the cakes next time.
(Note: Macarons in the photo are from the store outside)
I was invited along to sample a selection of soon to be launched Hojicha desserts and hot chocolates at Matcha by Chokolait. This Hub arcade cafe was recently refurbished and with it, a slight change of focus. While still keeping their traditional chocolate roots, they also embrace matcha and it fusion with western style desserts. Hojicha is the next progression of this. This roasted green tea has been carefully worked into a number of dishes and drinks that I was excited to try.
I ordered a Hojicha hot choc which arrived nicely heated and seriously rich. The hojicha powder was blended with both milk and dark chocolate and was quite delicious.
I also got to try the hojicha lava cake which was served warm with a chocolate sauce, hojicha ice cream and mini filled chockies. Let me start by saying this dish far exceeded my expectations. I have tried matcha lava cake elsewhere but this version was far more developed and it was one rich moorish dessert. The lava dessert wasnât as deep as others I have had, so the oozey filling was there but not as gushing as others I have seen. The ice cream was a delight.
Matcha by Chocolait has a range of matcha desserts and even a matcha and a chocolate pavlova. Interestingly the pavlova is presently one of their most popular desserts, but perhaps what I tried today (launched tomorrow) will give it a run for its money.
Thanks so much for having me in.
The best dessert I have ever had in Melbourne!!! It is not like others super sweat. The presentation is fabulous and the atmosphere is decent. But the location is quite difficult to find. It is in a archi lane way. I am a big fan of matcha. Matcha queen is my favorite with rich mousse and thick matcha sponge, and a few pieces of chocolate around. Cherry Blossom is attractive to girls. It has cherry confit and matcha mousse which has the combination of sweat and a little sour to meet the need of taste buds.
It was actually hard to find the place because it is inside a small alley. Anyways, and I didnât expect the size of the waffleđđŒ and it tastes sooooo goood!! ITâS A MUST-TRYđđ» Also, the staffs are friendly and easy goingđđŒ
I was very excited to try this dessert house because matcha is one of my favorite flavors. Not like most of the chokolait super sweet desserts, the matcha flavored pavlova is so enriched with matcha, it has more bitterness from matcha and sour from strawberries, combining with pavlova makes it a perfect afternoon tea dessert. The matcha mousse was also nice, smooth and subtle. The houjicha tiramisu is more on the sweet side.
If you're looking for the place to sit and chat in peace, I found this to be just the place, at least this Sunday lunch time. It's located in an arcade with less foot traffic than most and we only had a few people drop by for coffees while we were there. We had the matcha queen and matcha pavlova. The matcha queen was this rich and thick mousse, very filling with moderate matcha flavour. Probably a bit too heavy for me. Glad we got the chai tea to help digest this one. I personally wasn't a fan of the pavlova, although it was the one my partner preferred. I found the matcha cream on top to be a bit too bitter. The pavlova alone was nice and spongy with the layered matcha.
The owner and pastry chef is nice polite a hard worker and inspiring. He places a lot of love in his business and his creations. His desserts are amazing. I had the samurai. I was a bit to unsure with having a mandarins and a pandan flavoured combined. But omg the balance of those 2 flavours placed together blew my mind away.they worked so well together. I also tried the matcha queen. This would be my first place where the balance of yuzu and matcha didnât over power each other. The desserts are beautifully created and presented. My most favourite of all is the hojicha hot beverage. Which is matcha quickly roasted before grind down. The toasty caramel taste is amazing. I canât wait try out the winter special.
I went to six different places before deciding to get my MIL'S 80th bday cake from Matcha by Chocolait. Ross was so amazingly pleasant and friendly to deal with. He understood the Asian culture and took my request of nothing too sweet with the utmost respect. The end result, a beautiful and delicious cake that was ooh'ed and aah'ed by everyone as it was brought out. Best of all, my in-laws absolutely loved the cake and they were beaming from ear to ear at the end of the night. Thank you Ross and team for making Mum's 80th birthday a perfect one.
Arguably the best place to have Pavlova-Australiaâs national dessert !!!!
The super decadent dessert with a meringue base and nuggets of chocolates topped with strawberries with raspberry on the side is an absolute treat.also looks absolutely smashing
Chocolate brownie was very nice. Warm brownie with warm melted chocolate! The pavlova was quite sweet with cream on top. The banana cake had a strong cinnamon flavour. Never a fan of cinnamon, so I'll give the banana cake a pass. Iced chocolate was pretty good. This place is full of chocolate :)
LIT!: slightly hidden area with a peaceful and luxurious atmosphere. We were so full and tried the classic pavlova. I'm not a pav fan but this was done extremely well. The sponge was delightful to put the spoon through and will be back!
NOT SO LIT: we wanted to try the matcha pavlova, however they only have it in emporium.. so I guess I'm heading there for my next dessert!
Thanks for having us!

Chokolait is a Melbourne chocolate and dessert cafe situated in Emporium. Being chocolate lovers, we had heard great things about their creations and couldnât wait to try out the place!
We ordered the gourmet tasting platter which came with three different types of cake; red velvet, mango and passionfruit and matcha as well as their chocolate brownie. Their cakes were rich and moist, my favourite was the matcha, there was strong green tea flavour that was nicely balanced out by the cream on top. Â The platter also came with a scoop of chocolate and mango ice cream, which were smooth and creamy, as well as four gourmet chocolates.
Missed out the green tea version of pavlova but the original one was nice as well! Hot chocolate was so smooth and creamy without the oily after taste! The cafe was nice and quiet on a weekday afternoon. Such a gem in this busy arcade.
Enjoyed the chocolate pavlova when I came on holiday a few years back. It's a bit of a find but once you're there the menu items will reward you - no doubt.
Have been there twice in a row, every one piece of cake or chocolate is like delicate art. The matcha chocolate goes with matcha pavlova has a rich flavor, good choice for matcha lover. But the pavlova itself is a little bit too sweet when you eat the whole thing by yourself haha, better share with friends.
Friendly and warm service, delicious special dessert. Good location, when you are tired and want to have a little rest during your shopping, don't hesitate to walk into this warm place.
The hot chocolate is really sweet and since I have a sweet tooth, I really enjoy it ~ the cake with strawberry is acceptable but fails to meet my expectations~ banana drink is good~
I ll say that its a good chocolate store. I like the cakes and drinks, but still trying to find a better place for chocolate pieces.
Can anyone suggest me a store like that you offen find in Paris?..peole are crazy and romantic about.chocolait..I m really looking for the best.
I really enjoy it dessert. It's really really nice. It's not very sweet but I love the chocolate cake. The chocolate is best.â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€
The best pavlova in town! Also love their dark hot chocolatte ( they really melted the choc not from choc powder). The milk hot choc is too sweet for me but some of my friends prefer the milk one. However, i think you can share each glass with other people as the consistency of the choc is too thick. Additionally, they have great customer service:)

Having lunched elsewhere in the CBD I ventured off in search of a dessert restaurant & came across Chocolait and after deliberating for a good 10 minutes I finally chose their Mousse Cake (milk dark chocolate mousse on a chocolate sponge base with strawberries) for $13.95. This tantalising dessert sent my taste buds into a thoroughly enjoyable frenzy - it really hit the spot. Top marks for dessert presentation.
The Juror's Verdict: Food 4.5/5, Service Provision 5/5, Will I return: Yes, highly recommend, I just have to return to indulge again and soon.

I'm usually not a massive chocolate lover but I was craving for a hot choco with the cold wintery weather in Melbourne so I sneaked in Chokolait and ordered the dark chocolate hot chocolate. It was amazing, I could definitely enjoy all the cacao flavors in my drink and it was the perfect level of sweetness, it was pure joy. I really recommend this place.
Came here with a scoopon voucher for their chocolate degustation platter and if you are a chocolate lover then this is a must! All the hand crafted sweets are true works of art but the chocolatiers and servers are what make this place really special as they explain to you how each component is made if you ask them, this is a gem
I like the drink and dessert. The drinks were not too sweet. They was tasty and nice. Pavlova cake was nice taste but it was a bit strong white egg. The mousse cake was smooth and nice. The service was fair for me. The shop is a bit too old and a bit smelly. Over all is ok.
Always come here in winter for their hot chocolates which are always thick and delicious. Had an iced chocolate the other day when it was 37 odd degrees - it wasn't very special, so will stick to winters only.

The shop is hidden in lower ground and just a few sign to find this cafe in heritage building.Â
Love their chocolate and cake, would recommend their Lemon Cheese Cake
#1 pavlova in Melbourne!
And they serve delicious hot chocolate, not MILO as many other places! I have been coming here for a year now and the place lives up to my expectations every time. P.s. Couples love the private corner inside;)
The chocolate tastes alright with one cup is big (for me) đ The atmosphere is good for people love quiet place. Would love to try some more cakes next time
special thanks to the wonderful lady who stayed open an extra 10 minutes after closing time so I could feed my chocolate addiction!! Try the dark chocolate turtles!
Hidden gem of Melbourne. I have been selfish and didn't tell too many people about this chocolate shop as I wanted to keep this delightful find to myself. But alas they have opened a grander store in Emporium.
Hot chocolates are consistently of the highest standard regardless of flavour. I don't think I have ever had a better hot chocolate.
Glad to see their standards, quality and service haven't dropped since opening the new store.
The dark hot chocolates are good, and its nice that you can pick your level of spice for the chilli! However, while it was certainly delicious, I can't help but feel that perhaps it was a little overpriced at $6.70, considering that it isn't the largest drink I've ever bought at that price point.
Best hot milk chocolate can be found here. I came here alot for it. As for the rest of the things, especially sweets do not recommend them.
The best dark ice choclate. Not an obvious store that's quite and goof for relax! Anyway it's absolute a good store. I always suggest my friend been there as they visited melbourne

This place is located hiddent inside the Hub Arcade of Bourke St. I like their pavlova! Best pavlova cake that I hv ever had in Melbourne! Their ice dark chocolate is also very nice.
My absolute favourite hot chocolate in Melbourne. Its incredibly rich and a meal on its own! Also try the melted chocolate pots. This outlet is better than the emporium though!
I was thrown by surprise when this chocolatier produce such amazing desserts. I went for the winter testing plate and god were they stunningly delicious. Lindt, you better watch out for there is a new kid in town. The only grump I had was that it was really crowded and I made to wait for 20 minutes. So anyone planning to visit, plan ahead !
Comfy, little chocolate cafe. Good place to get together with friends and eat, the drinks here were nice, found my iced mocha abit too watery, but the balance between espresso and chocolate made up for it.
Never to early for Chocolait! A Monday morning mousse was on the schedule and although they had run out from the weekend, the staff were very accommodating and gave us two smaller versions. Very smooth, creamy & balanced. Coffee was very nice, as were the staff.
Beautiful. Loved my iced mocha, and my friend's hot chocolate was everything it should be: proper chocolate, great milk, rich and creamy - just yum. The pavlova was delicious too. I'd recently visited the Lindt Cafe but Chokolait is much better in terms of ambiance and the quality of the drinks is - dare I say it? - better.
The only thing that i thought was weird is that you have to order at the counter and pay at the time of ordering. If they are marketing themselves as a cafe - and I think they are given the variety of drinks and cakes on offer - then table service would be appreciated. Even on Saturday afternoon it wasn't that busy and they had plenty of staff so I think they could easily make table service happen.

While it was a nice place, we'd recommend try it once, but the hot chocolate was simply just too rich. Hence he won't be back till next year, and I probably won't be back. We both agreed that if you were feeling like hot chocolate (with milk, and not just pure melted chocolate) we'd go to Lindt.
If you are in the mood for something sweet after a hard days shopping in Burke street mall, I do recommend popping in and trying them out. Five years in the business shows that they are doing something right. I would ask that they put more spacious seating at the front of the shop, please?
I found another chocolate gem in the city! Cleverly hidden in Hub Arcade, I never knew that this place existed until Jass brought me here!
Chocolait use genuine Belgian courveture chocolate and they know how to treat it with the respect it deserves. You can taste the love (and quality) in their amazing products.
The meringue creaked under the weight of succulent strawberries and cool, thick cream, but before it had a chance to collapse, we had eaten it all.
The Dark Hot Chokolait was freshly made to order and was thick and smooth and sadly I struggled to finish it. I much prefer Chokolait than Koko Black, the atmosphere is much warmer and the owners are really friendly, did you know they make all their cakes too? I feel that Chokolait provides a more personal and indulgent experience :)
Chokolait is a chocolate shop that located in one of the arcade building in Melbourne CBD where in between Bourke St and Lt Collins St. A small shop having great chocolate drinks and food, and you may not realise this place because its hiding at the corne
Best dark chocolate. This place has been one of my must-revisited places everytime i am back in Melbourne (at least once a year). Whatever chocolate drinks that i ordered had left me with a full satisfaction on my dark and thick chocolate craving. My only feedback is the service which needs more smiles and friendliness.
Just love it. Been there couple of times, love the food. Nice service as well. +1
This is a 'must' visit for lovers of chocolates. I was not a hot chocolate lover by any measure until I had the Ecuador dark hot Chokolait tonight. It's amazing! Definitely the best hot chocolate I have ever had. Smooth and rich but not over powering, creamy and silky smooth but not too heavy and best of all, it's not too sweet. Delicately exquisite! Take this from a hot choc convert.
For the chocoholics. My favourite place for a chocolate fix
Chocolated out. If you really love chocolate this is heaven. If not take care in what you order. I ordered a milk chocolate drink and a warm chocolate cake. I was chocolated out. It did get sickly, the hot chocolate is a dessert in itself, really thick. The service was ok but not too good. I left a little disappointed as the reviews were so high. The seating was uncomfortable and the atmosphere not so good. Next time I visit I will order the drink only. I tried my friends dark chocolate, but the milk chocolate was much much better.
